00:00Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has failed in his bid to secure leave to cite former Attorney General Ahmad Terirudin Saleh for contempt of court after the High Court dismissed his application.
00:11Justice Lok Yiching ruled that Najib had failed to establish a prima facie case and ordered him to pay RM20,000 in costs.
00:20Najib had applied for leave to cite Terirudin for contempt over his alleged role in suppressing a royal addendum allowing him to serve the remainder of his reduced jail term under house arrest.
00:32Through his senior counsel, Shafi Abdullah, Najib argued that Terirudin had personal knowledge of the order, having been served with it during his tenure as Attorney General.
00:42However, the judge said there was no solid evidence Terirudin acted as alleged and described the claims as mere speculation.
00:49Lok also noted that the applicant was uncertain of the addendum's existence at the time of filing the leave application.
00:57She said Najib's one-year delay in filing the contempt proceedings was fatal to his case as courts have consistently held that contempt, being a serious matter, must be pursued within a reasonable time.
