She cozied up under a blanket next to the fireplace for 2 weeks after she got rescued — and her new smile says it all

00:01There'd been really hectic, week-long storms, heavy rains.

00:06It turns out one of the garbage trucks

00:08had come in fast and hit her.

00:10And she actually had a broken hitch.

00:13Hi, sweetie.

00:15And this one's going to be in jail, right?

00:18Oh, the Indian one?

00:19Yeah.

00:19She wasn't interested, really, in this.

00:22She was more interested in trying to find food.

00:24She was starving.

00:26Come on, come on.

00:31She didn't resist at all when I picked her up.

00:33She didn't struggle, she didn't fight.

00:35I think she was so tired and in so much pain.

00:38I think dogs always know when you're there

00:40with good intentions and there to help.

00:49The next stage with Penny was getting her to a vet

00:52to be x-rayed to see what was doable for her leg.

00:57Hello, girl.

00:58But it was fixable with rehab, so we needed to find a foster.

01:02And that's when I thought of Tam.

01:03When I first got her, it was winter time.

01:06So when I was coming home from work,

01:08she would be in her bed by the fireplace

01:11with the blankets over her.

01:12My sweetheart.

01:13And I think she was so tired from her life

01:16that she didn't get up, but her little tail

01:18would be wagging through the blankets.

01:20Hello, girl.

01:21She did this for probably about two weeks

01:25until she gained her energy.

01:27You're losing your legs so much.

01:31Probably one of my favorite things about her

01:33is she was such good friends with the cat.

01:35They were like best mates.

01:37Greens or anything like that.

01:38So there was a meet and greet with the family

01:40that had applied to adopt her.

01:42We immediately got an email saying we want her.

01:44And now she's so part of the family.

01:47She's her dad's best friend.

01:49Mom's protector.

01:51She's included in every outing,

01:53included in every holiday.

01:56We think she'd have been born into that life,

01:58but she has just adapted so beautifully.
