01:07sunday and it's seven hours and we all just wait for that we pine for that but between now and then
01:13how much of a memorization process is it for you to try to get all this stuff in your brain before
01:20sunday yeah i mean look at i i stay plugged into the nfl pretty much 365 i was telling someone
01:27earlier today that i took a trip overseas this summer i went to jordan in the middle east and i
01:33was doing some volunteering work and yet where we stayed i made sure they had good internet so that i
01:39could still check in with my favorite websites even in early june when there's nothing going on
01:44around the nfl to stay plugged in but this week in fact these days that you and i are talking about
01:50right now is where i absolutely drilled down we get practice report injury reports the last minute
01:57transactions there might be you know uh too deep roster charts that change a little bit and it's it's
02:05go time on sunday and i can't tell you fellas i will literally have goosebumps in that studio when the
02:11countdown clock hits 60 seconds or less literally they record me on a separate camera because i'm
02:18literally like a football player ready to go whoa let's go let's go we waited so long and i say the
02:25same thing at the beginning of every show at the beginning of every season i tell you how many days
02:31it has been since the last full nfl sunday and then i say and now the wait is over and i try and be as
02:41dramatic as possible about it because it is so dramatic that we have missed this so badly and
02:46yes by sunday we'll have two games under our belt the season kickoff philadelphia eagles game of course
02:52then the brazil chargers chiefs game but when we hit that first octobox and you've got eight games
02:59national ball league and you've got your fantasy light up locked in and you've got your back your snacks
03:06and your beverages set there's nothing like it there's nothing like it in television sports and
03:11i'm i'm thrilled to be in the captain's chair for no it's unbelievable it's better than you had me at
03:16octobox just listening to you say octobox it does it sends a little little shiver for up the spine for
03:22some of us scott hansen of red zone channel is joining us here on willard and dibs and by the way just
03:28because you said all that we're going to need the music too so grandy when we're on the back end of this

03:44know 100 days to go do you step back at all and and think about the evolution of this over the last
03:51few years and in your wildest dreams could could it have looked like like this where it's become such a
04:00slice of americana yeah maybe not to that degree but i knew if we executed the show well based on the
04:08parameters and the description that we what we came up with back in 2009 if we executed it well it would
04:15absolutely resonate with nfl football fans right football junkies like the three of us want to see
04:21everything across the nfl simultaneously did i know it would jump to the level of being in the american
04:28zeitgeist where we've been lampooned on saturday night live uh i appeared on the simpsons because
04:37red zone is so popular uh the punt zone channel on the simpsons is what i was part of uh people go
04:44dressed up as me and or as the octobox for halloween uh there was a guy who named his dog octobox in
04:52yes i get people sending me photographs like on social media where it's in the middle of may with
05:02nothing going on and they'll send me a picture of their stovetop right with their four burners
05:08and they'll go quad box i just saw the association that people have with what we do on red zone is
05:17it's unlike anything it's it's a phenomenon and and it's it's just it's a wild ride and i you know
05:23i don't want to let it to get you know too big like like like we're all that special it's about the
05:28football but it is such a blessing to have my skill set marry well with the demands of the job
05:36and then i can tell you this truly there is no one that wants to show you more football than i do
05:41i love serving the audience and i hope that comes across on nfl sundays and with the positive
05:47feedback that i get all the time it's it's wonderful it's a blessing and i want it to
05:51continue for years to come and we want the same thing and i know you will shout out your crew you
05:57do it every sunday you do such a great job of the director the producers and everybody else who
06:01works so hard on what you do but i guess the elephant in the room is the new news about commercials
06:08coming to the red zone will this give you the opportunity to actually go to the bathroom sky
06:14well thank you for asking the question that way yeah uh yeah i have seen the trending topics
06:20so far today um yeah i i i could i could take a bathroom break i suppose i will tell you this
06:27and your audience will be the first to hear this oh these breaks will not be long enough for me to go
06:34to the bathroom so don't think it's going to be like a commercial block or something like that in
06:42the middle of a monday night football game or something we're we're talking about a limited
06:47number of ads that will be dispersed throughout the seven hours and i understand that people are
06:53going to have their hot takes on on everything else like that guys i host the show the business people
06:59handle the business side of the show and i i like i said before i'm i want to show you more football
07:05than anyone so please know that when the discussions are being had i'm fighting for the fans to say we
07:12got to make sure that nothing else impedes the enjoyment and the expectation of our audience over
07:18the course of 16 years of doing this show we need to be able to serve them as well as this year as we
07:23have in years past um i think that's exciting news number one that uh that you won't have time to go to the
07:29bathroom apologies to you but i also said right before you came on scott i like the news is like
07:34look it is what it is and i want to congratulate you because if they're doing that that means your
07:39show is hot stuff you know what i mean like it was inevitable to a certain degree um by the way
07:44while we're talking about controversial things i want you to know that 3 15 pacific on wednesdays
07:50is usually we have a weekly segment with our guy from nfl films greg cosell we bumped him right yeah
07:57we bumped him for you and he's not pleased scott he said tell scott he's killing me i'm reaching
08:03over for my phone because i'm expecting a a text from greg like a strongly worded text like what you
08:09know you big time me or something like that greg greg if you're watching not my fault the fellas chose
08:14this not my fault once again the business people taking over again scott see how that works um uh your
08:22your show is obviously all about touchdowns uh give us a let's do a fun prediction if you will
08:28what what uh what team in the nfl this year is going to score the most touchdowns okay okay um
08:35give me give me the cincinnati bengals okay for a couple of reasons yep you could pick the bills or
08:45the ravens or the eagles they have the full complement of of prime time games so on nfl red
08:52zone we're going to see the bengals maybe one or two more games than we would the ravens or the bills
08:57or some of those teams that are going to be plastered on prime time uh but the bengals for a couple
09:03reasons their trigger man is as good as it gets joe burrow had a fantastic season their number one
09:09wide receiver just won the triple crown their number two wide receiver would be the number one
09:13wide receiver for a heck of a lot of franchises in the nfl their running back is is on the on the
09:19incline as well chase brown can do it both in the passing game and on the ground of the running game
09:24and i don't think the bengals defense might all be all that good so they're going to be in 38 35
09:3049 42 type of shootout games so if i had to say who who's scoring the most touchdowns on red zone this
09:39year give me the cincinnati bengals do you have any influence over the stack of games because i love
09:44the octo in the morning but sometimes we get just three games in the afternoon can you use your
09:49influence to kind of balance out the slate scott yeah i'm lucky if they slide a banana under the door
09:55you know for me in the late window there that's about how much influence i i have uh no and and you
10:02guys are you guys have been around broadcasting a long time you know that the nfl likes to have those
10:06smaller number of game late windows because they want to kind of create a pseudo national game for
10:13one of their broadcast partners either fox or cbs whoever has the big 425 eastern kickoff so that's
10:19why you'll see a a giants cowboys game in that late window with with only two other games paired with it
10:28it it it is what it is and uh you know that they want to spread the product out as far as they can
10:34i'm just thankful for when we have these early window full eight slate uh setups which we have
10:42on this sunday and we can fill up the octobox with eight glorious games in eight different stadiums
10:48from coast to coast it's so good scott hanson is with us scott before you run and this might put
10:54you in a pickle because you are the host of the show but i'm a niner fan and i know you support
11:00football fans when the niner game is on my kids get mad at me for wanting to to go watch the game
11:07instead of keeping you on so what yeah how am i supposed to handle this
11:12yeah i defer to the kids let the kids have their way let the kids play have their way
11:22i get it i get it but i'll tell you this so the niners are your favorite team that's great and i
11:28would never try to compete on you watching every snap of the niners game but the niners are going
11:33to play on thursday night the niners are going to play on monday night the niners are going to play
11:37in the late window uh what are you doing at one o'clock eastern time in the early window because your
11:43second favorite team is probably your fantasy football team or in your your two guys cases you
11:49cover the nfl so well you need to see the 10 000 foot view you need to watch all of the games
11:55and there's only one channel where you can watch all of the games so i hope to see you i hope to see
12:00you and the three kiddos oh my goodness 90 hours 90 hours scott it all starts in 90 hours so good
