In this video, Naturopath and massage teacher Brandon Raynor receives a deeply therapeutic hand massage after more than 35 years of giving massages to others. Over time, massage therapists can build up tension in their own hands, leading to stiffness, pain, and even burnout.

Watch as Brandon demonstrates specialized Raynor Massage techniques designed to release deep tension in the fingers, palms, and wrists. These techniques help improve circulation, restore flexibility, and prevent strain injuries—making them essential for anyone who works with their hands.

Hand massage isn’t just relaxing—it’s vital for self-care and longevity in massage therapy, bodywork, and other hands-on professions.

00:00hey everybody my wife and I are just going to demonstrate to you guys some
00:07massage techniques to help with people's hands so here I'm working on her hand and opening it up
00:17with my little fingers and then just using my thumbs to get into the palm of her hand
00:23you can see they're hooking in with the little finger opens it up and these are the two most
00:29important areas to massage when you're actually working on somebody's hand the two big muscles
00:36the one at the base of the thumb and the one at the finger they tend to be the tightest areas of
00:40course the fingers are so important as well but yeah it's a very important area to work on
00:51i'm just using some thumb techniques rolling around
00:53and i like to open up the hand there's a very important acupressure point here large test i4
01:01in chinese medicine a lung point on the inside and we open the thumb up and we can hold that point and
01:09move the thumb around and fold it move the hand and actually there's multiple points within that point
01:20even though traditionally it's one point i actually believe there's several points so and the way to
01:25access it is to come from where the thumb bone and the pointer finger bone meet and just beside that
01:33so not working on the bone but in that fleshy part beside that you can open that up
01:39get in there these are very important acupressure points in the hand in between all of the fingers
01:51in fact it's good to work but the one in between the little finger the second finger is a very powerful
01:57one as well as that thumb one all right you know my wife is going to work on my hand and obviously
02:18her hand is a bit smaller than mine a lot and she has a level of precision than i'm able to get with
02:24her thumb so she's able to really get in there and of course i'm very grateful to her because
02:30if she doesn't do this work on my hands it'd be very hard for me to continue massaging or massaging
02:37so many people so she's really getting into those tight muscles with the base of my hand
02:48using rotating thumb moves and that sort of thing we're actually thinking about holding a
02:54seminar like a two-day seminar for people that want to learn basic massage for home use so for
03:00friends and family or for their loved ones um and my wife and i would teach that together so that she
03:08can show people that have smaller hands and smaller bodies how to work on people with bigger hands bigger
03:14bodies bigger feet that sort of thing and i can work on other people we probably hold that in st louis and
03:21also in australia when we live between the two places this is filmed in our st louis house actually
03:32this is a great technique that she uses to get into the thumbs especially for her son if she can't get
03:38that pressure with her hands it's it gets in there believe me i can feel that watching it because i felt it
03:44when she did it that was a genuine gasp from the earlier yeah it's an intense and you can see coming
03:54from both sides it's pressure points
03:56hand massage is so important especially for you know massage therapists like myself
04:09i am doing treatments by the way in missouri in st louis penton uh if anybody wants to come we're
04:16doing best western plus we're also holding a 10-day seminar 10-day course coming up
04:23um lots of people are coming just for the sake of getting the massage getting the massage and uh
04:29yeah so that should be a lot of fun so if you're interested let me know just uh email me info at
04:35rainer massage.com
04:40or look at our website rainermassage.com there'll be a lot of information there there'll be page about our
04:46so that it's where this joint
04:50what what i'm always doing right now strap below the joint will be side to side
04:55often you get a little click that helps to prevent the build up of the calcium deposits in the joints
05:02which is really what causes our brightest
05:07so she's getting it moving side to side
05:10like i'm supporting here i'm going side to side but see it wants to go this way it's having trouble
05:23going this way so then you'd work you would know that this side is holding it tight okay
05:31like my right she did my right hand today this is a couple hours ago she did i'm talking over it
05:53and uh and then the difference in my right hand my left hand was enormous even now while i'm sitting
05:59here voicing over i can feel my hands on my right hand feeling so much looser and my left hand's like
06:05wow tight she got into it for a while we got four parts okay so we've got different acupressure points
06:13in between here we can push
06:20and in here
06:24and in here in between so don't be pushing on the bones it's in between the bones
06:30and a very powerful spot in here and how we can access that is to stretch the hand like this
06:36and then come from where the two bones join just beside that not on the bones but just beside that
06:43that way we'll be able to get that nice acupressure spot so opening it up and i'm pressing from both sides
06:49and then what we can do is move we can hold the hand still stretched and move the thumb and this
06:57is a very powerful way to access this pressure point we can also move there's more pressure points
07:02more pressure points than just than just the one
07:14so just moving that thumb opening it up
07:17coming back holding working it to a point where the person can still breathe into it
07:24and relax it but powerful enough that it's actually effective
07:29so if a 10 is where they're going to tighten up and pull it or pull it away we work under that
07:38then we can follow up these different bands that are coming up here
07:42we can work in through here across the top
07:45we can hold like this and pull i already got that a little bit earlier
07:57and then we can work across here
08:03all along here so we can hold points just right along the edge of this finger
08:07and in between and then we can open the hand up like this
08:12so we're stretching with our between our little finger and our next finger
08:16and then just working like that
08:30and along
08:37holding
08:41and these are some of the most important areas to work on a hand these little groups of muscles here
08:48and then it's in between and then we can actually
08:51work into the bands as they come across the top here so rolling over them
08:55and then holding the joint below here moving side to side
09:05okay so we're holding here
09:09and working so holding below this joint here to give it stability
09:12nothing you get little clicks
09:21it's a good sign
09:24this is where arthritis develops in a lot of people as they get older
09:28you can also work like this right here
09:29so moving these joints around helps to prevent arthritis
09:35it's
09:37it's some sort of build up of calcium causing calcification of the joints i believe
09:45from my understanding of it and we're breaking that up and pushing it back into the bloodstream
09:49that's kind of the stuff that actually creates tension and stiffness in the joints which is what
10:04and arthritis is arthritis actually arthro means joint and itis means inflammation
10:12but to me it's just a chronic build up of tension and along with that tension
10:16there's all this calcium and other things i'm not a scientist so i don't want to
10:21say exactly what it is but it creates tension
10:23okay so holding pressure points we can then turn the hand around like this
10:36click it it's a bit of a complicated move you should only really do this if you know what you're
10:40doing but you can do a simple one like this just holding right in the joint and just moving it up and down
10:49all right
