02:22أمين يا رب العالمين
02:23First of all it's an honor to be here at the East London Mosque
02:27and I want to share with you that I have a special love
02:30for the city of London every time I get a chance I come here
02:33more often than not I am here without telling anyone
02:35and the thing that I love about this city the most
02:38is the Muslims of this city
02:39and it is something special that you have here
02:43there's an energy even among the youth here
02:45that have a zeal to serve this deen
02:47to commit themselves to this deen
02:48that is unprecedented in the Western Muslim world
02:51I've been to countries like Australia
02:53all over Canada
02:54all over the United States
02:55many other parts of the world
02:57and I haven't seen the kind of energy
02:59and the kind of enthusiasm that young people have
03:01towards their deen that I see here
03:03today's khutbah in any case
03:05I wanted to share with you some things about
03:08something that we recite all the time
03:10something that we say all the time
03:12and we overlook I would argue all the time
03:14and that is the gift of Allah
03:16that He revealed to all of us
03:17and that is Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim
03:19there is so much that can be said about
03:21Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim
03:22but I hope to share a few things with you today
03:24the first of them is obviously
03:25the most conversation that you might be familiar with
03:28is in the name of Allah
03:29that's how it begins
03:30in the name of Allah
03:31we'll get to Ar-Rahman ar-Rahim in a little bit
03:33but when you say in the name of Allah
03:35it's the Arabic word ism
03:36that has been translated as name
03:38but actually the Arabic word ism comes from the original wasam
03:42and wasamah in Arabic as a verb means two things
03:45it means a mark
03:47some kind of brand
03:48like sometimes they would have animals
03:50anybody's horse
03:51there's a lot of white horses
03:53and is it mine or is it yours
03:54so they would put a brand on the horse
03:56so now I know this one's mine
03:58so it's a mark that distinguishes this horse
04:01from every other horse
04:02similarly there are twins
04:04I don't know which one
04:05is this Abdullah or Abdul Karim
04:06I don't know which one
04:07one of them has a birthmark
04:08that's his wasam
04:09a mark that distinguishes someone
04:11that you can't confuse them with anybody else now
04:13that's actually one of the meanings of wasam
04:16and the other meaning of wasam
04:17actually comes from wasamah
04:19and from it you get words like wasim and wasam
04:21which means beauty
04:22in other words not only is there a mark
04:24but it's a mark of beauty
04:26those are two things that come within that word
04:28when we say Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim
04:31we're acknowledging something about Allah
04:32that every one of his qualities
04:35everything that he does
04:36is something that's unique to him
04:39it cannot be confused with anyone else
04:41the way Allah shows mercy
04:43the way Allah guides
04:44the way Allah provides
04:46the way Allah plans
04:47the way Allah does anything that he does
04:49is unique to him
04:49it cannot be compared
04:50that is his unique mark
04:52that's the first thing
04:53but the second thing also
04:54is that everything Allah does
04:56whether you understand it
04:57and I understand it or not
04:59has beauty in it
05:00everything Allah does has beauty in it
05:02and that's just inside when we just use invoke the name
05:05ism
05:06but now let's take this a step further
05:08when we say
05:08in the name of Allah
05:10instead of just saying
05:11you're just mentioning Allah
05:13just calling on Allah
05:14but actually invoking the name of Allah
05:16and actually by invoking the name
05:18the uniqueness of Allah
05:19and the beauty
05:20of all of the qualities of Allah
05:22we're actually
05:23like Imam Al-Alusi rahimahullah commented
05:25alba'u lil-istiaana
05:27that you're asking Allah's help
05:29when you say
05:30Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim
05:31you're actually asking
05:32Allah's help
05:33but human beings need
05:34different kinds of help
05:35when you're sick
05:36you need someone to cure you
05:38when you're tired
05:39you need someone to help you
05:41you know
05:41when you're confused
05:42you need someone to clarify for you
05:44when you don't know
05:46you need someone to educate you
05:47when you're lost
05:48you need someone to guide you
05:49it's not one kind of help
05:50if you're hungry
05:52you don't need to be educated right now
05:54you need to be fed
05:54it's a different kind of help
05:55so when you ask Allah for help
05:58then at a different occasion
06:00you need a different kind of help
06:01and of course
06:02every one of Allah's names
06:04provides a different kind of help
06:05when Allah calls himself
06:07Al-Hadi
06:08the one who guides
06:09then of course
06:10the help he will give us
06:11that he'll guide us
06:12when he calls himself
06:13the provider
06:14Ar-Razaq
06:14Ar-Raziq and Ar-Razaq
06:16the one who provides
06:17over and over again
06:17then obviously
06:18he's in that name
06:20he's gonna be giving me provision
06:21when he calls himself
06:23Dhul-Quwat-Al-Mateen
06:24the one who has extended might
06:26extended power
06:27then I need strength
06:28I'm weak
06:29and I'm gonna call on Allah's power
06:30to grant me some of that power myself
06:32so I can accomplish
06:33what I need to do
06:34so every one of Allah's names
06:36gives us a different kind of help
06:37but when I wake up in the morning
06:39and I'm just getting out of bed
06:41and out of my mouth comes
06:43Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
06:44just like that
06:45just like that
06:46I just say
06:46I don't think about
06:47which name do I need right now
06:48do I need Allah to give me
06:50the strength to get up
06:51do I need Allah to guide me this morning
06:53do I need Allah to
06:54you know
06:55to help me plan my day
06:56do I need Allah to provide me
06:58hada, rizq
06:58do I need Allah to provide me
07:00peace in my family
07:01and security
07:02which name of Allah
07:03should I call on
07:04and it is the gift of Allah
07:06that by using just the word
07:07ism
07:07it is all of the names of Allah
07:10all of the unique qualities of Allah
07:12all of the beautiful things
07:13about Allah
07:14that you included
07:15just inside the word ism
07:17whether you thought of
07:18all of those names or not
07:19this is the mercy of Allah
07:21I could not have thought
07:22of all of the things
07:23that I need from him
07:24because I don't need one thing
07:25I need too many things
07:26I'm in too much need
07:28and so I can't even think
07:29of all of those names
07:30walillah
07:31you know
07:31asma'ul husna
07:32fadruhu biha
07:33he says
07:34for Allah
07:35they're the most beautiful names
07:36call him by all of those
07:38beautiful names
07:38but how many people
07:39are gonna learn
07:39all the names of Allah
07:40not everybody will know
07:42all the names of Allah
07:43but we need all of them
07:44so Allah give us a gift
07:46when we say
07:47bismillah
07:48just bismillah
07:48we've already called upon
07:50all of Allah's names
07:51the one you will ever learn
07:53and the one you will never learn
07:54all of them have been included
07:56subhanallah
07:57and that's a gift of Allah
07:58when we say
07:59bismillah
08:00ar-rahmana
08:00ar-raheem
08:00now
08:01the second thing
08:02on this point
08:03walillah
08:04al-mathal
08:05al-a'la
08:05sometimes to appreciate
08:06what Allah does for you and me
08:07because what he does is unique
08:08sometimes it's healthy
08:10to make a comparison
08:11how we deal with each other
08:12there's a father
08:14or a mother even
08:15and she pours her love out
08:18on her child
08:19she takes care of this child
08:20even before the child is born
08:22this kid is inside her stomach
08:25causing her pain
08:27you know
08:27destroying her body from within
08:29and all she does is make dua for him
08:31when will you ever find
08:33another human being
08:34all you do is cause them pain
08:36every day goes by
08:38the womb gets heavier and heavier
08:39now she's throwing up
08:41even more and more and more
08:42food starts tasting like paper
08:44she can't even sit down straight
08:46her back hurts all the time
08:47she's even hurting when she's sleeping
08:49she has to con
08:50and she's worried about her
08:52and she's hungry all the time
08:53because the baby takes all the food
08:54and it doesn't even taste good
08:56for her to eat
08:56this creature causes her
08:58pain upon pain upon pain
09:00wahnan ala wahnan
09:02kama yaqululul quran
09:03subhanallah
09:03weakness on top of weakness
09:05burden on top of burden
09:07and yet all she does is
09:08her love keeps increasing
09:09her love doesn't go down
09:11it keeps increasing
09:12it doesn't say enough already child
09:13I had enough
09:14I've been dealing with you for six months
09:15there's three more months to go
09:16she doesn't do that
09:17her dua's start increasing
09:19she comes to the imam and says
09:20what surah can I recite
09:21so my baby can hear it
09:22you know
09:23and then the baby comes out
09:25and almost kills her
09:26almost kills her
09:27she bleeds almost to death
09:28and instead of
09:29when will you ever have someone
09:31that bleeds you
09:32that almost kills you
09:34and the first thing you want to do
09:35is take care of them
09:36and hug them and feed them
09:37that's your mother
09:38that's what she does
09:39and that's just
09:40what she did at birth
09:42what the love that she's given you
09:44the support that she's given you
09:46even when you're an adult
09:47so many of you
09:47there's no one you can talk to
09:49and you'll talk to your mother
09:50there's no one who will understand you
09:52your mother will understand you
09:53there's no one who will feel your pain
09:55your mother will feel your pain
09:56that's not just when we were babies
09:58even when you're 50 years old
09:59it doesn't matter
09:59and that mother
10:01somebody goes to her
10:03the son goes to her
10:03and says
10:04mom you're so great
10:05you make such good roti
10:07please help me
10:09and the mother's thinking
10:10that's all I'm good for
10:12I've done nothing else for you
10:14but make roti
10:15that's the one thing
10:16that came in your mind
10:17all the other sacrifices I made
10:19I took
10:20you know
10:21five different trains
10:22and three different buses
10:24to get a job
10:25so you can go to college
10:26and all you can thank me
10:27is you made roti the other day
10:28that's all that came in your mind
10:29how ungrateful are you
10:30she doesn't say it
10:32but she feels it
10:32she doesn't say it
10:34she still loves you
10:34but you know
10:36you and I
10:36no matter how hard we try
10:38we can never acknowledge
10:39the goodness of our mother
10:40we can't do it
10:40if we were to call on Allah
10:43with one name
10:43imagine you called on Allah
10:46Ya Razak
10:47Bismil Razak
10:48you know
10:50I just call on Allah
10:51the name Al-Razak
10:52that's it
10:52you know
10:53then Allah
10:54you're only appreciating
10:56what about Allah
10:56that He provided for you
10:57but you didn't appreciate
10:59that He guides you
11:00you didn't appreciate
11:02that He protects you
11:03you didn't appreciate
11:04that He secures you
11:06and gives you good people
11:07in your life
11:08you didn't appreciate
11:09that He gives you knowledge
11:10He didn't appreciate
11:11that He made you Muslim
11:13that He gave you your health
11:15that He gave you your job
11:16you didn't appreciate
11:17any of those things
11:18you just reduced
11:19everything about Allah
11:20to one of the things He does
11:22one of them
11:23and Allah kept us
11:25from reducing Allah Himself
11:27subhanahu wa ta'ala
11:28because that's offensive
11:28we wouldn't even know
11:31وَيُعَلِّمُكُمْ مَا لَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْلَمُونَ
11:33He taught you
11:34what you couldn't have even known
11:35we would have even been
11:36praising Allah
11:37and it would have been offensive
11:38because it's just not enough
11:39so He gave us
11:40بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
11:41He gave us this phrase
11:43and now when you
11:44when you call on that phrase
11:45the believer is supposed to become
11:47filled with gratitude
11:48we're supposed to be overwhelmed
11:50in how much
11:51in how many ways
11:52Allah helps us
11:53in how many ways
11:55Allah provides us
11:55there are no other relationships
11:57like this one
11:58you know
11:59I go to my teacher
12:00for knowledge
12:01you know
12:02I go to my parents
12:03for support
12:04and when I'm young
12:05for provision
12:06you know
12:07I go to my spouse
12:08for emotional support
12:09and love
12:10I go to different people
12:11for different things
12:12but to Allah
12:13you go to Him
12:14for all things
12:15you go to Him
12:16for everything
12:17there's not one thing
12:18that is missing
12:19when you and I
12:20turn to Allah
12:20so that's the first part
12:22of the equation
12:22بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
12:23but then Allah
12:25didn't stop there
12:26even actually
12:27I want to share with you
12:28some things about
12:28the word Allah
12:29our ulama had a long
12:31debate in our history
12:32what is the origin
12:33of the word Allah
12:34does the word Allah
12:35come from ilah
12:36and is it the combination
12:38of al-ilah
12:39al-ilah
12:40or is it a name of Allah
12:42that belonged to Allah
12:43from before Arabic
12:45and before all languages
12:46always been the name of Allah
12:47there's been these two
12:48positions
12:49all across our history
12:50and both of them
12:51have their evidences
12:52but I want to share
12:53some things with you
12:54even if you say
12:55that this word belongs
12:56to comes from
12:56the word ilah
12:57ilah is commonly
12:59translated someone
13:00to be worshipped
13:00al-ma'bud
13:01al-ma'bud
13:02al-ma'luh
13:03bima'na al-ma'bud
13:04but you know
13:05the word alihah
13:06the verb in Arabic
13:07it actually comes
13:08from love
13:09the origin of the word
13:11faza'a ilayhi
13:12wa ahabbahu
13:12ashadda al-hub
13:13it's actually
13:15intense kinds of love
13:17the old Arabs
13:17before Islam
13:18they used to have
13:19ten degrees of love
13:21the lowest of them
13:22was khub
13:22the lowest of the
13:24degrees of love
13:24was khub
13:24and they would have
13:25ten degrees
13:26and the tenth one
13:27will kill you
13:28you love someone so much
13:30you become so obsessed
13:31that you can't even eat
13:32you can't even sleep
13:32you know
13:33it just kills you
13:34it's unhealthy
13:35the ninth one
13:37the ninth one
13:38actually is called
13:39walah
13:40or alah
13:40from which the word
13:41ilah comes
13:42and the word walah
13:43means a kind of love
13:45that when you have it
13:46you don't feel pain
13:48when you have it
13:50you don't feel hunger
13:50you don't feel sadness
13:52it is taken
13:54this love
13:55fills your appetite
13:56so much
13:56there's no room left
13:57for anything else
13:58there's no negative emotion
14:00left in your life
14:01because
14:01this ilah
14:02has filled it for you
14:03when we call upon Allah
14:05by saying
14:06Bismillah
14:07we are expressing
14:09our love for Allah
14:10and acknowledging
14:11that if we truly
14:12have love for Allah
14:13all of our problems
14:14are going to feel
14:15like nothing
14:15we all have problems
14:18some of us have
14:19marriage problems
14:20some of us have
14:20problems with our children
14:21some of us have
14:22problems with money
14:23some of us have
14:24problems with health
14:25some of us have
14:26problems with extended
14:27family
14:28friends
14:28we have all kinds
14:30of problems
14:30some of you have
14:31legal problems
14:31some of you have
14:32business problems
14:33immigration problems
14:34there are so many
14:35problems in life
14:36all you're doing
14:37all day
14:37there are taxi drivers
14:38here
14:38that are driving around
14:39all day thinking
14:40about their problems
14:41how much money
14:41do I have left
14:42How am I going to pay for the next tuition fees for the child?
14:45Which uni are they going to go to? And all of it.
14:47That's all they're thinking about all day.
14:49When you call on Allah with bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,
14:52know that Allah will remove the tension from your head.
14:56He'll get rid of it.
14:57And He will replace it with a reliance on Allah.
14:59And everything will get sorted out.
15:01Everything will work out.
15:03Because you have this gift that came from the heavens.
15:05This thing you recite and I recite bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim is not cheap.
15:09It's amazing.
15:11You know when it's used in a context?
15:13All of you know it's used in the beginnings of surahs, every time.
15:16But the one time it's used in the middle is in the story of Sulaiman.
15:19إِنَّهُ مِنْ سُلَيْمَانِ وَإِنَّهُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَانِ الرَّحِيمِ
15:22Ever think about that?
15:24Sulaiman a.s. is going to transfer the throne of another queen
15:29thousands of miles in the blink of an eye.
15:33And he says this is because of bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
15:37This is what bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim can do.
15:40What is Allah teaching you and me?
15:42If Allah can do that when someone truly believes in bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim
15:46then you and I have no reason to be pessimists left.
15:49A Muslim is not supposed to be depressed.
15:51Because he has this gift.
15:53You know if you had... I'll tell you a secret.
15:56Think about this as an analogy.
15:58It will help you inshaAllah ta'ala.
15:59It helped me a lot.
16:01And you have all these problems.
16:02Money, health, family.
16:04You know all these issues in your life.
16:06And they only seem to be getting worse.
16:08They don't seem to be getting better.
16:10The arguments are getting more and more nasty.
16:12And you're just buried and buried and buried.
16:14You know there are young men here, young women here that can't get married.
16:18You know and either the family doesn't agree or the guy is not right or the girl is not right.
16:23Or nothing is right or you know.
16:25Is it even going to happen?
16:27She's getting older and older.
16:28The father is getting worried.
16:29How am I going to get my daughter married?
16:31All of these problems are happening.
16:32And imagine one day that somebody comes to you and says,
16:35Here's an envelope.
16:37You can open it in 30 days.
16:39But I'll tell you there's 2 million pounds in here for you.
16:42But you can only open it in 30 days.
16:45But it's in your hand already.
16:48You have it.
16:49Even if you don't have enough food for lunch.
16:52Even if you don't have enough money to pay the electricity bill.
16:56You have nothing in your hand.
16:57For 30 days you're still poor.
16:59But you're the happiest man I've ever met.
17:02You're still walking around without shoes on the street.
17:04And I'm like, hey man, why are you so happy?
17:06You don't know.
17:0727 days.
17:08I'll let you know.
17:10Because you have a guarantee in your hand.
17:13You have a guarantee.
17:15And whenever you get depressed.
17:16Whenever you feel really hungry.
17:18You just look at the envelope.
17:2024 more days.
17:22This thing has given you a guarantee that a better life is coming.
17:27Isn't it?
17:28All of your problems became small.
17:31No big deal.
17:32Because you have a guarantee.
17:34That is when you call on the name of Allah.
17:37That's a guarantee in your hand.
17:39It's worth more than a few million pounds, let me tell you.
17:41It's worth a lot more than that.
17:43And it's in your hand.
17:44It's just in your hand.
17:46You just got to believe in it.
17:47That's all.
17:48You know, somebody else could have the same paper and say,
17:51I don't believe it and rip it up.
17:53Never even open it.
17:55Be skeptical about it.
17:56You and I are believers.
17:58We believe in the power of Allah's names.
18:00And so I take you quickly to the next name.
18:02Of all of Allah's names.
18:04First of all, he invoked the one that makes us worship him out of love.
18:08The word that comes from Allah.
18:10And even that name is so unique.
18:12Because the wasslam already told you that there's a uniqueness to Allah, right?
18:15You know, in Arabic, this is a little bit of an Arabic thing,
18:17but I'll try to make it easy for you.
18:18You must have heard, if you have Arab friends or somebody speaking Arabic,
18:21when they call on someone,
18:23Harf-ul-nidaa, he is the Ya.
18:25You say, Ya Walad, Ya Rajul, Ya Kareem, Ya Abdullah.
18:28Ya Abdullah.
18:29They say Ya all the time when they call someone.
18:31When you say Ya, you don't use Al.
18:33You don't say Ya Al Walad.
18:35If you want to use Al, you say Ya Ayyuhal Walad.
18:37You don't just say Ya Al Walad, you say Ya Ayyuhal Walad.
18:40Like Allah says Ya Ayyuhal Mudathir.
18:43For example, Ya Ayyuhal Nabi.
18:45If you want to put Alif Laam there, Al there, you have to say Ayyuhal.
18:48You can't just say Ya.
18:49But if you don't say Ya, you can say Ya Musa, Ya Isa, Ya Zakariya, Ya Yahya.
18:53You know.
18:55Some argue the word Allah has Al in it.
18:58When we say Ya Allah or No,
19:00we say it all the time.
19:02The name of Allah is so unique,
19:04you don't even do in Arabic what you do with the name of Allah anywhere else.
19:08Even the name of Allah is unprecedented.
19:11Even the way it's pronounced, Allah, when you say Allah,
19:15you don't say Allah anywhere else in Arabic.
19:17Even the way it's pronounced is unique.
19:19Even the way Allah gave us the gift of His name,
19:22is to tell us you are dealing with someone like as no one else.
19:25He's like nobody else.
19:27He will help you like nobody else.
19:28He loves you like nobody else.
19:30He cares for you like nobody else.
19:31He remembers you like nobody else.
19:33He's always with you like nobody else.
19:35Everyone else will leave you.
19:36Everything else will leave you.
19:37Allah will never leave you.
19:39That's what He reminds you and me of.
19:41That's what He reminds you and me of.
19:43Now, there's a lot to talk about like I said,
19:45but I will finish on time.
19:46I respect the fact that a lot of you have to get back to work
19:49and have other responsibilities.
19:51I have about five minutes left,
19:52so a few things I'll try and squeeze in about this beautiful phrase.
19:55The two names of Allah, all of His names,
19:58that He could have included.
19:59You know, because He has the best of all names.
20:02But the two descriptions that He wanted us to know,
20:04every time we do something,
20:06every time we call on all of His qualities,
20:08of them, two of them should come to the front of our mind.
20:11Meaning two of His qualities overshadow everything else.
20:16When you think of everything else about Allah,
20:18it is under these two.
20:20And those are Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim.
20:22Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim.
20:24What incredible two names.
20:26Ar-Rahman simply means three things.
20:30It means that Allah's love and mercy and care is extreme.
20:35Mubalagha means it's beyond what you can imagine.
20:38It also means, so it's extreme, that's the first thing.
20:40The second thing is, that it's immediate.
20:43The second thing is that it's immediate.
20:45Which means you don't have to wait for it.
20:47It's happening right now.
20:49And the third of the meanings, when you use Fa'lan,
20:52that's the scary one.
20:54It's actually not permanent.
20:56It's extreme, it's immediate,
20:58but it's not necessarily permanent.
21:01When you say, for example, in Arabic,
21:03Atshan means thirsty.
21:04Thirst is not permanent.
21:05When you say Jawaan,
21:06Jawaan is extremely hungry.
21:08It's extreme, it's immediate, but it's not permanent.
21:10When you say Jawaan, extremely angry, it's not permanent.
21:13Well, for some people it is.
21:14But yeah, for most people it's not permanent.
21:17You know?
21:18But the beauty of the Arabic language,
21:20and the beauty of how Allah chose to describe Himself,
21:23this is a kind of Mubalagha,
21:25even if it's temporary, it doesn't go away on its own.
21:29If you're thirsty, the thirst will not go away on its own until you use water.
21:35If you're hungry, hunger will not go away on its own until you eat food.
21:40If Allah is Ar-Rahman,
21:42if Allah is excessively loving, excessively caring, excessively merciful,
21:48that extreme love, mercy, and care will not go away ever until you remove it.
21:54Until you don't want it.
21:56Allah will never take it away.
21:58People don't want it sometimes.
22:00Rasulullah one time told the Sahaba,
22:03strangest thing,
22:04the Sahaba are sitting there,
22:05and he looks at them and he says,
22:07So all of you are going to Jannah,
22:13except the one who refused.
22:16Why would?
22:18And even the Sahaba asked the same question that came in my head.
22:21Who's gonna refuse?
22:25Why would we refuse to go to Jannah?
22:28He says,
22:30Whoever obeyed me, whoever came to me,
22:37because he's the merciful messenger of Allah.
22:42Whoever came to me in obedience, wanted to go to Jannah.
22:44Whoever forgot about me, disregarded me, he didn't want to go.
22:47You and I can remove ourselves from Allah's mercy.
22:50Allah will not close the door, we close the door.
22:53And sometimes you close the door for many years.
22:56Sometimes you close the door for many, many years.
22:59And then you open it.
23:00And when you open it, Allah doesn't say,
23:01Why did you close it?
23:02Get lost, I don't want you anymore.
23:04He doesn't do that.
23:05The door remains open.
23:07The doors of Allah's mercy and His care and His love remain open.
23:10The last of these names is Ar-Raheem.
23:13And as I leave you with Ar-Raheem,
23:14two things I want to share with you.
23:16Ar-Raheem actually fills the void of Ar-Rahman.
23:18Ar-Raheem is Sifa Mushabbah, they say in Arabic, something that is permanent.
23:22So don't you worry.
23:23Allah will take care of you right now, immediately.
23:25And if you're worried about tomorrow,
23:27He'll take care of you tomorrow too.
23:28You know, it's human nature.
23:30If you're really hungry,
23:32And your wife says to you,
23:33What do you want to eat next week?
23:35You say, forget it woman, what do we have right now?
23:37I don't care about next week, I'm starving right now.
23:40Once you finish eating,
23:43And your stomach is full,
23:44Then you say, so what are you saying about next week?
23:47You don't think about the future if you have a problem in the present.
23:51Once your present problem is solved,
23:53Then you start thinking about the future.
23:55If you haven't paid the bill yet,
23:57Then you're only thinking about the bill right now.
23:59The moment you pay the bill, you start thinking,
24:01When am I going to pay next month's bill?
24:02You think about the future.
24:03What did Allah do?
24:04Allah took care of your immediate need when He said Ar-Rahman.
24:07And He took care of your future when He said Ar-Raheem.
24:10He took care of your future.
24:12Both of them.
24:13And in the right order.
24:14Because human beings,
24:15You love to rush, you love the things that you need right now.
24:19You're obsessed with them.
24:21Doesn't He know who He created?
24:24He gave me Ar-Rahman first, then He gave me Ar-Raheem.
24:27And so I leave you with the last of these many treasures of Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem.
24:32Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem is what they call in Arabic,
24:35Shibhu Jumla.
24:36Innaha Laysat Jumla.
24:38It's not a sentence.
24:39It's actually what's called in English grammar a fragment.
24:42Okay, it's a piece of a sentence.
24:44For example, if I say in the car,
24:46In the car is not a sentence.
24:48If I say there's a person in the car,
24:50No, that's a sentence.
24:51In the car there are a lot of people.
24:53That's a sentence.
24:54But if you just say in the car,
24:56It's not a sentence.
24:57When you just say in Allah's name,
24:59That's not a sentence.
25:00That's an incomplete thought.
25:02There's no Mubtada,
25:04There's no Khaba,
25:05There's actually a Mutaallik,
25:06It's just a Jar Majroor,
25:07The Arabic students will know.
25:08There's no Fi'l.
25:09Some grammarians,
25:10When the Mufassirun studied this ayah,
25:12They said,
25:13Wow, this is incomplete.
25:14How do you complete it?
25:15There must be a fill in the blank.
25:17So they say,
25:18It must mean,
25:19Abda'u bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,
25:21Ou abtadi'u bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,
25:23I begin with the name of Allah.
25:24You might have seen some English translations that say,
25:26I begin with the name of Allah.
25:28Even though the words I begin are not there.
25:30They're just not there.
25:31So the question is,
25:32Why aren't they there?
25:33And that's what I hope to share with you now.
25:35Allah Azzawajal in His wisdom,
25:37The one who,
25:38He taught us how to speak.
25:41He knows how to speak.
25:42When He wants to make a full sentence,
25:44He will make a full sentence.
25:45When He wants to give you half a sentence,
25:46He will give you half a sentence.
25:48We don't judge Allah's speech by our standards.
25:51Our speech is judged by Allah's standards.
25:53He's the one who taught us how to speak.
25:55Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
25:56He gave us an incomplete statement on purpose.
25:59Because what you do next completes it.
26:02In the name of Allah,
26:04I eat.
26:05In the name of Allah,
26:07I get out of bed.
26:08In the name of Allah,
26:09I wash my face.
26:10In the name of Allah,
26:11I get in my car.
26:12Everything you do is actually completing.
26:15Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
26:17It is as though this beautiful gift of Allah,
26:19Was waiting to complete everything you do.
26:21It's the other way too.
26:22And now you know what you understand?
26:24There's lazim and malzoom.
26:25If you do anything without Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim,
26:28It's incomplete.
26:30This was a part of it.
26:31This is a part of the equation.
26:33It had to be.
26:35In small things and big things.
26:38And so,
26:39Now that my time is up,
26:40Insha'Allah ta'ala,
26:41At some other time perhaps,
26:42I'll come and share with you.
26:43One of the beauties of Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
26:45In the one surah,
26:46Where there is no Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
26:48Surah al-Tawbah.
26:49But that's for another time.
26:51BarakAllahu li wa lakum fil Qur'an al-Hakim.
26:53Wa nafa'ni wa iyaakum bil ayaati wa al-Dhikhi al-Hakim.
26:56Alhamdulillahi wa kafaa.
26:59Wa salatu wa salamu ala ibadihi al-lazhin astafa.
27:02Khususan ala afdalihim.
27:03Wa khatamin nabiyyin.
27:05Muhammadin al-Amin.
27:06Wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'in.
27:08Yaqul allahu azza wa jal fi kitabihi al-Kareem.
27:10Ba'da an aqula.
27:11A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytana ar-rajim.
27:13Inna allaha wa malayikatahu yusalluna ala nabiy.
27:17Ya ayyuhallathina amanu sallu alayhi wa sallimu taslima.
27:21Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa ala alih Muhammad.
27:24Kama sallayta ala Ibraheem wa ala alih Ibraheema fil alameen.
27:28Innaka hamidun majid.
27:29Allahumma barik ala Muhammadin wa ala alih Muhammad.
27:32Kama barakta ala Ibraheem wa ala alih Ibraheema fil alameen.
27:36Innaka hamidun majid.
27:37A'ibadallah rahimakumullah.
27:39Ittakullah.
27:40Innallaha ya'muru bil adli walihsan.
27:42Wa ita'idhi alqurba.
27:44Wa yanha'anil fahshai wal munkar.
27:46Waladhikrullahi akbar.
27:47Wallahu ya'lamu ma tasna'oon.
27:49Aqmih salah.
27:50Innassalata kanat ala almu'minina kitaba malkuta.
