US President Donald Trump on Tuesday escalated his criticism of India’s trade policies, accusing New Delhi of maintaining some of the world’s steepest tariffs and describing the economic relationship as “one-sided.” Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said that for years India benefitted while the US refrained from imposing tariffs, but under his administration Washington is pushing back against what he called unfair trade practices.

00:00:00The top story that we are following here on India today, rattled by the Moti Zipun, Putin-born homie that we are now seeing,
00:00:07Prime Minister Modi, the Chinese Premier, Xi Jinping and the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:00:13The born homie that the free share was very, very visible.
00:00:16Donald Trump hits back. Donald Trump says India charging US tremendous tariff.
00:00:21US President Donald Trump now has given out a statement with regards to the tariff that he is debbing on India.
00:00:27We get along India very well, but for many years it has been a one-sided relationship.
00:00:32India was charging us tremendous tariffs, the highest in the world.
00:00:36They were the highest in the world.
00:00:38We weren't doing much business with India, but they were doing a lot of business with us.
00:00:43They were doing a lot of business because we were not charging them foolishly.
00:00:47They would send massive amounts of everything they made, pour it into our country.
00:00:51So this is a big statement which is coming in.
00:00:52A lot of experts are looking at this statement as the US administration, the US President Donald Trump being rattled.
00:01:00Let's listen to what the US President said.
00:01:02For many years it was a one-sided relationship.
00:01:08Only now since I came along and because of the power that we have with tariffs,
00:01:12India was charging us tremendous tariffs, about the highest in the world.
00:01:16They were about the highest in the world, number one.
00:01:19And we therefore weren't doing much business with India, but they were doing business with us
00:01:23because we weren't charging them foolishly.
00:01:26We weren't charging them.
00:01:27So they would send in massive, you know, everything they made.
00:01:30They'd send it in, pour it into our country.
00:01:33Therefore, it wouldn't be made here, you know, which is a negative.
00:01:36But we would not send in anything because they were charging us 100% tariffs.
00:01:41And, you know, I'll give you an example.
00:01:43Harley-Davidson.
00:01:44Harley-Davidson couldn't sell into India.
00:01:46There was a 200% tariff on a motorcycle.
00:01:50So what happens?
00:01:51Harley-Davidson went to India and built a motorcycle plant.
00:01:55And now they don't have to pay tariffs.
00:01:57Same thing as us.
00:01:58So what we're doing is literally thousands of companies are coming into the US,
00:02:05car companies, AI, but, you know, more traditionally car companies.
00:02:09We have so many car company factories under construction or being designed right now.
00:02:14And they're coming from China.
00:02:16They're coming from Mexico, I must tell you.
00:02:18And they're coming from Canada.
00:02:19A lot of them coming from Canada.
00:02:21But they're coming into our country because they want to build here.
00:02:25And they want to build here for two reasons.
00:02:26Number one, they'd like to be here.
00:02:28And number two, the tariffs are protecting them.
00:02:30And number three, they want to avoid paying tariffs.
00:02:34When they build their cars here, they don't have any tariffs to pay.
00:02:37You know, when you build here, you don't have any tariffs.
00:02:40My colleague Pranev Upadhyay is now joining me on the story.
00:02:43Pranev, we are seeing these statements now coming in.
00:02:45But one thing is very clear.
00:02:47And Pranev, that's something that the experts also have been speaking about.
00:02:50Is that the born homie, which was very, very visible at the SCO,
00:02:54that born homie is now rattling the US administration.
00:02:57Not only that, Aishwarya, but I think President Donald Trump is also trying to explain to his own people
00:03:05that why his administration and his team is taking such a tough stance against India,
00:03:11which has been a strategic partner for the United States.
00:03:14And many people are asking these questions to President Donald Trump and his administration,
00:03:20that, you know, we need India to, and as it has been said by the previous administrations,
00:03:26and it has been believed in the United States,
00:03:28that India, partnership with India is a pivotal partnership for the 21st century.
00:03:32So what has happened now?
00:03:34So I think President Donald Trump is trying to explain his position and why he's doing so.
00:03:39But when President Trump says that India charges high, India has high tariffs, he's not wrong.
00:03:45But who decided these tariffs?
00:03:47It is a WTO mechanism.
00:03:49It is a multilateral arrangement with which every country has decided that what tariffs they are going to levy on other countries
00:03:57and what is going to be the arrangement.
00:03:58And if you see the general tariffs of India, it's very product-based and it is high because India is a developing country.
00:04:06India and the United States, in the size of their economies, in terms of the products they sell, they cannot be compared.
00:04:13And if you see, there are very, you know, high-value products which United States sells.
00:04:18President Donald Trump, you know, he is trying to put the principle of reciprocity here,
00:04:23rather than the principle of WTO or arrangements or the multilateral arrangements.
00:04:29So he is trying to put reciprocity first that if you are charging me 10%, I am going to charge you 10%.
00:04:35If you are trying to charge me 50%, then I am going to charge you 50%.
00:04:40So he might be trying to, you know, to show his own audience.
00:04:45But this is actually disturbing and disrupting the international mechanism.
00:04:50India is ready.
00:04:52India has, you know, expressed its commitment to engage with the United States.
00:04:57And that's why we have initiated the process of bilateral trade agreement with the United States.
00:05:01Way back in February 2025, when Prime Minister went there.
00:05:05And there have been negotiations on that.
00:05:07But then it is on the United States if they want to continue that negotiation.
00:05:13Because we still have the deadline till about fall of 2025.
00:05:20Fall of 2025, right.
00:05:21Rane, please stay on with me.
00:05:22We've got some more news coming in.
00:05:24But as my colleague was pointing out, we are now seeing Donald Trump giving a clarification of sorts
00:05:28for the reason why he's putting 50% tariffs on Indian goods.
00:05:41News that's coming in at the moment.
00:05:43It's the U.S. President Donald Trump who's now boasting of U.S. trade and tariff.
00:05:48Donald Trump said, without the United States of America, everything in the world would die.
00:05:53Donald Trump said, without the U.S., everything in the world would die.
00:05:57United States, according to various experts, is rattled by the bonhomie that was out on full display
00:06:03between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chinese Premier and the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:06:08Those handshakes and those personal conversations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has had,
00:06:14both with Xi Jinping and also with Vladimir Putin.
00:06:17So the U.S. administration at the moment, very, very uncomfortable.
00:06:21Let's listen in to what the U.S. President said.
00:06:23It's true. It's so powerful. It's so big.
00:06:27And I've made it really big in the first four years.
00:06:32Then it started to degenerate with what this Biden administration did.
00:06:36But we built it up to a level that I never thought we could be at this quickly.
00:06:40We're the hottest. We're the best. We're the best financially.
00:06:43The money coming in is so big because of tariffs and other things, but because of tariffs.
00:06:47Tariff gets us even those other things. Plus, it gets us great negotiators.
00:06:52I settled seven wars and numerous of those wars were because of trade.
00:06:56News that's coming in at the moment.
00:07:04Donald Trump has made a big claim on Indian tariffs.
00:07:07U.S. President Donald Trump on a podcast said,
00:07:10They've offered me no tariffs. In India anymore, no tariffs.
00:07:14If I didn't have tariffs, they wouldn't have not made that offer.
00:07:17It's a big claim being made by the U.S. President.
00:07:20U.S. President Donald Trump said,
00:07:23They, which means India, has offered the United States of America a deal where there will be no tariffs anymore.
00:07:29No tariffs. If I didn't have tariffs, they would never have made this offer.
00:07:33This is something big which has happened now.
00:07:35The United States of America President coming out and saying that the Indian team,
00:07:39the Indian administration has now said to the U.S. administration that there will be no tariffs.
00:07:44He goes ahead and says,
00:07:46Had he not levied the 50% tariffs on India, then this offer from India would have never come.
00:07:53My colleague Rohit Sharma joining me from Washington, D.C.
00:07:56Rohit, this is a big statement coming in,
00:07:58but we are also seeing the tug-of war that's taking place between U.S. and India,
00:08:03especially the change in the tone after the SCO summit.
00:08:08Good morning so much.
00:08:10Yes, you know, it is something, you know, tariffs have been on his mind.
00:08:14And first things first, I want to, you know, again, let our viewers know,
00:08:18we're the first one to break this news on India today,
00:08:20that President Trump has made this claim on a podcast with Scott Jennings.
00:08:25He essentially has been talking about tariffs ever since Friday,
00:08:29when the federal court ruled that these tariffs could be illegal.
00:08:33And he was basically talking about it today, you know, at the White House,
00:08:40and he went on this podcast.
00:08:42And then he said something that directly, you know,
00:08:45basically throws his version of story,
00:08:49which is that India is not offering any tariffs to the U.S.
00:08:53Again, this is Donald Trump who's saying that had he not used tariffs as a tool,
00:08:59has he not, you know, weaponized tariffs,
00:09:03America would not be succeeding economically.
00:09:06And then is the fact that he said that, you know,
00:09:08India is currently offering him no tariffs.
00:09:10Now, we all know that the trade talks have been stalled.
00:09:14You know, we have additional tariffs on India,
00:09:16about 25 percent, a totaling of 50 percent tariffs of India currently.
00:09:20And yesterday, I think, you know,
00:09:24there were talks about from the Indian side, at least,
00:09:27that talks are continuing on this deal that has been used for a while.
00:09:33But the fact that President Trump, you know, is, again,
00:09:35it could be a negotiation tactic, we do not know.
00:09:38But the fact that he's coming out and saying that India is offering no tariffs,
00:09:42basically it's trying to communicate his version of the story,
00:09:46or whatever his advisors are telling him,
00:09:48to put some kind of pressure and, again, do it publicly,
00:09:52so as to his pollution is made clear to the larger Indian audience.
00:09:56Thank you, Rohit, giving us those details.
00:09:59He's also putting things in perspective.
00:10:01And he's rightly pointing out that this is the version
00:10:03that Donald Trump wants the world to see.
00:10:05That's why he's now coming out and saying
00:10:07that India has given him an offer where there will be zero tariffs.
00:10:11Now, Donald Trump's tariff war is actually drawing very sharp criticism
00:10:15from all the quarters.
00:10:16In fact, former U.S. officials and experts have now started slamming
00:10:20the U.S. president for pushing India closer to China and Russia.
00:10:24Former U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan,
00:10:27he's gone ahead and said Donald Trump has thrown the relationship with India
00:10:31over the site just because Pakistan is willing to do business with his family.
00:10:36He's also warned that this shift could cause major strategic harm to Washington, D.C.
00:10:40Another former NSA, John Bolton,
00:10:42he's accused Donald Trump of pushing India towards Russia.
00:10:46He says Trump's disastrous tariff policy has severely damaged ties with New Delhi,
00:10:52which means that now we are seeing a very strained relationship
00:10:55between India and the United States of America.
00:10:57He went ahead and also stated that India became incensed
00:11:00because of repeated claims being made by Donald Trump
00:11:03to get credit for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
00:11:07Commerce Minister Piyush Gowal has said,
00:11:09India remains very open, India is fair and balanced.
00:11:12And India wants a fair and balanced trade deal with the U.S.,
00:11:15but will not be negotiating under pressures or under any kind of deadlines.
00:11:19Speaking at a conference, the minister confirmed that talks remain active
00:11:23despite the recent tariff tensions.
00:11:24India is hoping to conclude the pact by November or by the end of the year.
00:11:30He's undermining 30 years of bipartisan work to strengthen the U.S.-India alliance.
00:11:37He has imposed a 50% tariff on India, higher than any other country other than Brazil.
00:11:45It's a higher tariff than the tariff on China.
00:11:48It is hurting India's exports of leather and textiles into the United States.
00:11:54And it's hurting American manufacturers and our exports into India.
00:11:59It is also driving India towards China and towards Russia.
00:12:04Now, why is this happening?
00:12:06For very simple reasons.
00:12:08Prime Minister Modi refused to nominate Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize.
00:12:13Well, Pakistan did.
00:12:15And India has said that the border dispute with Pakistan is an internal matter,
00:12:20refusing to give Donald Trump credit.
00:12:28News that's coming in at the moment.
00:12:30We are now seeing for the first time China displaying modern weaponry.
00:12:34Now, this is a mega military parade.
00:12:35Those are the images that you are seeing on your screens at the moment.
00:12:38China unveiled for the first time some of its modern weaponry.
00:12:43Now, this weaponry includes jet fighters, missiles and the latest electronic warfare hardware.
00:12:49Now, this is China showcasing its military might.
00:12:5326 foreign leaders, including the Russian President Vladimir Putin,
00:12:57the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.
00:13:00Leaders from Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Zimbabwe,
00:13:03and several other Central Asian countries attended this parade.
00:13:08From India's neighborhood, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif,
00:13:12the Nepal Prime Minister, Maldives President,
00:13:15all of them attended this parade.
00:13:16What you are seeing on your screens are the images coming in from China.
00:13:33For the first time, China is now putting out a full display of its mega military parade.
00:13:40China is displaying the modern weaponry,
00:13:42and this is the first time that we are seeing such a mega military parade being held in Beijing.
00:13:48China, in fact, unveiled some of its modern weaponry.
00:13:51Now, this includes jet fighters, missiles and the latest electronic warfare hardware.
00:13:57Now, this is China showcasing its military might.
00:14:0026 foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin,
00:14:03North Korean leader Kim Jong-un,
00:14:06The leaders from Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Indonesia, Zimbabwe,
00:14:11and several other Central Asian countries attended the parade.
00:14:15This is China showcasing its military might.
00:14:18You have the Russian President Vladimir Putin also in attendance.
00:14:24In fact, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also was part of the attendees.
00:14:29My colleague Pranay Upadhyay is now joining me on the story.
00:14:35Pranay, what we are seeing now is the full might of what Chinese military has,
00:14:40the capabilities that they have.
00:14:42And it's very unlike China,
00:14:43because we have never seen China to be the nation that showcases its military might in this way.
00:14:48Indeed, Ashwara, but this is a new tradition China wants to exhibit.
00:14:54China wants to show its military might.
00:14:57This is an effort to show the world that they have arrived at the block
00:15:02and they are becoming an alternative goal at the time
00:15:05when the world is looking for the multipolarity and the alternative goal.
00:15:10So, this is a Chinese effort, this is a Chinese model,
00:15:13and see the showcasing, see the show of strength in terms of the diplomatical strength
00:15:19they have showed to the organization of the Shandai Convention Organization Summit meeting.
00:15:25They organized and after that, many leaders say that,
00:15:29including Russian President Vladimir Putin and including Mr. Putin,
00:15:33Kim Jong-un of North Korea,
00:15:35and around 26 world leaders are there in Tiananmen Square of China,
00:15:40Chinese capital Beijing, today, and witnessing this mighty parade.
00:15:45You know, China organizes such parade every five years,
00:15:49but this is the biggest parade they are organizing,
00:15:52celebrating the 80 years of their fight against Japan during the World War.
00:15:59And definitely, this is a dumb statement in itself.
00:16:03President Xi Jinping addressed the audience and his soldiers.
00:16:07He said that, you know, he should speed up the process to build China into a powerful military
00:16:13and to build China into a strong country.
00:16:18Also, he tried and gave us a message to the world that our army, our military,
00:16:23our military force is for the peace.
00:16:26We are going for, we are for the peaceful coexistence with everyone.
00:16:30But this is also a message, Ashwarya, to tell the world, and especially the Western bloc,
00:16:35that do not try and mess with us because we have this military with,
00:16:39and one of the biggest military in the world.
00:16:43And if you see the effort of China by showcasing these military equipments,
00:16:49it is also to showcase their technological progress
00:16:52and to show the world that they are also interested in selling the military hardware
00:16:57because China is competing in various markets to sell their military equipments.
00:17:02So, like, multiple, you know, messaging is there with this military parade.
00:17:07Right, Pranay, thank you for giving us all those details.
00:17:13My colleague now bringing out the details.
00:17:15What you are seeing now is other images coming in from Beijing in China.
00:17:20Anil Pandey, senior journalist, is now joining me from Beijing.
00:17:23Anil, what we are seeing, and you know, this is something that the world has known,
00:17:26that China has a military mind.
00:17:29China has modern technology, modern weaponry, but this is the full display.
00:17:33Everything that China has, everything is out there on the display.
00:17:37Recording in progress.
00:17:45Can you hear me, Anil?
00:17:47Yeah, I can hear you. Can you repeat the question, please?
00:17:49Yeah.
00:17:50Anil, what we are seeing here,
00:17:52visuals coming in from Beijing in China,
00:17:54full military might of China out there on full display.
00:17:58And we have some of the biggest leaders from across the globe in attendance.
00:18:02We have Vladimir Putin, who's sitting there and looking at these,
00:18:06looking at the parade, China now making sure that its military might is out there in full display.
00:18:11Yeah, as we know, this is a very important occasion for China,
00:18:16because as we know, China is celebrating the 60th, 80th anniversary of the victory of the anti-fascists
00:18:23and anti-aggression, the Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war.
00:18:29So this is a very important occasion for China.
00:18:31It's not only symbolic, and it's very crucial, I must say, that as we understand here in China,
00:18:38people are very emotional.
00:18:40And because what they have faced for many, many years,
00:18:43it's the kind of message China wants to give to the world,
00:18:47that we want to lead the world, we want to have a peace,
00:18:50and we don't want to indulge in war in China in general.
00:18:54Chinese president was just addressing the crowd there in the Tiananmen Square,
00:18:59and he also took the salute of the guard, he saluted the guard of honor.
00:19:05And also it's a very great occasion, and China also showcased high-tech weapons,
00:19:09you know, as we understand here.
00:19:11Anil, do you also think this is also...
00:19:15So he said, I mean, we understand that what he said,
00:19:18Chinese people made a major contribution to the salvation of human civilization
00:19:22and defend of world peace, according to the Chinese president Xi Jinping,
00:19:27and who is also the general secretary of Communist Party of China.
00:19:32Anil, do you also think this is also a larger message to the world?
00:19:35Because we have seen some of the top leaders from Central Asia,
00:19:38they have been invited, they are in, you know, they are sitting there,
00:19:42all of them are now looking at the modern technology that China has.
00:19:46So do you also think a shadow boxing of sorts taking place
00:19:49between China and the United States of America?
00:19:52Yeah, yeah, it's a good question, because as we know,
00:19:55what America is doing right now,
00:19:57and how, what kind of attitude America has shown towards India or China.
00:20:02So in this scenario at present,
00:20:05we understand that China definitely have the might,
00:20:08and China, during this parade today,
00:20:11China has shown advanced early warning and command aircraft,
00:20:15fighter aircraft, bomber aircraft, transport aircraft.
00:20:17You know, as we could see that,
00:20:20China definitely have the edge over technology,
00:20:23although we know America is the superpower in the world,
00:20:25is the most powerful country in the world,
00:20:27but we cannot ignore China's power, China's economy,
00:20:29the way China is moving forward.
00:20:31And definitely it's a chance for also, if I may say, for India also,
00:20:35it's a good chance for India to come close to China,
00:20:38as we have seen that America has leveled a huge tariff on India
00:20:42and trying to bully India.
00:20:44So on this occasion, we have also recently seen
00:20:47how Chinese Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed in China
00:20:50and also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping
00:20:53and also had a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
00:20:56So if these three countries can join hands and come together,
00:21:01so it will be a great occasion
00:21:02and it will be a big, big achievement for the world,
00:21:05as we know how the Western world has been,
00:21:08you know, dominating the whole world
00:21:09and trying to bully many other countries.
00:21:15Right. Thank you, Vanil, for joining me on the broadcast.
00:21:17Anil Pandey was joining us from Beijing in China.
00:21:20Images that you are seeing on your screens
00:21:21coming in of the military parade,
00:21:23which is being held in Beijing in China.
00:21:26News that's coming in.
00:21:41It's the U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:21:43who's now launched a big attack on China.
00:21:46He says U.S. gave blood to secure China's freedom.
00:21:49Donald Trump goes ahead and says
00:21:51many Americans died for China's glory.
00:21:53Big conspiracy against the United States.
00:21:56The big question that must now be answered
00:21:58is whether or not President Xi of China
00:22:02will actually mention the massive amount of support and blood
00:22:04that the United States gave to China
00:22:07in order to secure its freedom
00:22:08from a very unfriendly foreign invader.
00:22:11Many Americans died in China's quest for victory and glory.
00:22:14I hope that they will rightfully be honoured and remembered
00:22:17for the bravery and the sacrifice.
00:22:20May the Chinese President and the wonderful people of China
00:22:22have a great and lasting day of celebration.
00:22:25Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin.
00:22:28You conspire against the United States of America.
00:22:31Big statement coming in from the U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:22:34who's now pointing fingers at China and saying
00:22:37that you need to remember that a lot of American blood was spilled.
00:22:40Many Americans died in China's quest for victory and glory.
00:22:44I hope those people will be rightfully honoured and remembered
00:22:47for their bravery and the sacrifice.
00:22:51My colleague Pranehupadhyay is with me on the story.
00:22:53Praneh, we are now seeing a direct attack taking place.
00:22:56In fact, this statement coming in where the U.S. President
00:22:59is now telling China to remember the sacrifices
00:23:02that were made by the people of the United States of America.
00:23:05Indeed, whatever he has posted on the social that just remains a big question
00:23:12that whether President Xi Jinping will mention the massive support
00:23:16and the blood given by the U.S. United States during China's fight
00:23:21against Japanese aggression.
00:23:25But this also remains a fact that even if you see the statement
00:23:29given by President Xi Jinping,
00:23:32he did not mention the fight of his own people as well
00:23:36like in the Kuomintang Party,
00:23:37which was the main ruling party
00:23:39and people, those who fought against the Japanese aggression.
00:23:43So definitely every politician, every government
00:23:46does as per their own political convenience.
00:23:50And here, President Donald Trump
00:23:51might be having this expectation.
00:23:54But I think with this social post,
00:23:57he is trying to address his own audience,
00:23:59his own domestic audience in the United States.
00:24:04I just think that, you know,
00:24:05I am the one who is going to get justice for the United States.
00:24:08I am the one who is going to, you know,
00:24:11make America great again.
00:24:12Because these questions,
00:24:14definitely this won't have any impact
00:24:17on the 80th anniversary celebrations of China
00:24:20and neither President Xi Jinping is going to accommodate,
00:24:23you know, to please President Donald Trump.
00:24:25He has already delivered his speech there at Beijing
00:24:29and during the parade.
00:24:31And now President Donald Trump
00:24:33might be having this expectation.
00:24:35But definitely he wanted to show to the world
00:24:38that we were the one who actually helped.
00:24:40And this cannot be denied.
00:24:43Because at that point of time,
00:24:45the blocks were different.
00:24:47Japan was, you know,
00:24:49against the unified forces
00:24:52with which United States was an important part of that.
00:24:56Right.
00:24:56America did play a role in World War
00:25:00and in fact,
00:25:01they played a very significant role in World War II.
00:25:03And they did help Chinese.
00:25:06But I don't think that President Xi Jinping
00:25:08has either acknowledged it
00:25:10or is going to acknowledge this fact.
00:25:12Thank you for giving us those details.
00:25:14Also rightly pointing out
00:25:15that it seems to be,
00:25:17you know,
00:25:17we'll have to wait and watch
00:25:18whether the Chinese Premier
00:25:19will respond to what
00:25:20the U.S. President Donald Trump has said.
00:25:24It's Donald Trump
00:25:25who's now hit out at court order
00:25:27on the U.S. tariffs.
00:25:29He says U.S. is in serious trouble
00:25:31without these tariffs,
00:25:32will become third world country
00:25:34sans the tariffs,
00:25:35will move the Supreme Court tomorrow
00:25:37on the tariff ruling.
00:25:39He's also seeking expedited court decision
00:25:41on the tariffs that have been levied
00:25:42not just on India
00:25:43but on various countries across the globe.
00:25:47Now we are seeing
00:25:47it is the U.S. President Donald Trump
00:25:49who's hit out at a court order
00:25:51with regards to tariffs
00:25:52that are now being levied
00:25:53by the United States of America.
00:25:55Donald Trump says
00:25:56U.S. will be in serious trouble
00:25:58without these tariffs,
00:26:00will become a third world country
00:26:01if we do not levy these tariffs,
00:26:03will move the Supreme Court tomorrow
00:26:05on tariff ruling.
00:26:06Donald Trump seeks expedited court decisions
00:26:09on these tariffs.
00:26:11It's the latest coming in
00:26:12from the United States of America.
00:26:13We are now seeing
00:26:14how the U.S. administration
00:26:15is feeling grattled.
00:26:17The bonhomie between the three big nations
00:26:19China, Russia and India
00:26:21full display
00:26:22that happened at the SCO
00:26:23that is the
00:26:24Shanghai Corporation Organization Summit
00:26:26that took place in China.
00:26:28Prime Minister Narendra Modi
00:26:29also had bilateral conversations
00:26:31which lasted a couple of hours
00:26:33separately
00:26:34with the Russian President
00:26:35Vladimir Putin
00:26:36and with the Chinese Premier also.
00:26:38India now clearly siding
00:26:40with China and Russia.
00:26:41In fact, China also came out
00:26:42with a statement
00:26:43and said
00:26:43that one cannot remain quiet,
00:26:45one cannot be a mute spectator
00:26:47when these kinds of tariffs
00:26:48are being levied.
00:26:49One needs to now stand up
00:26:51against a bully
00:26:52like the United States of America.
00:26:54U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war
00:27:05is actually drawing sharp criticism
00:27:07from all the quarters.
00:27:09Former U.S. officials and experts
00:27:10are now slamming the precedent
00:27:12for pushing India closer
00:27:13to China and Russia.
00:27:15Former U.S. National Security Advisor
00:27:17Jake Sullivan has now said
00:27:18Donald Trump has thrown
00:27:20the relationship with India
00:27:21on the side
00:27:22only because Pakistan
00:27:23is willing to do business
00:27:25with his family.
00:27:26He's also warned
00:27:27that this shift
00:27:27could actually lead
00:27:28to a big strategic harm
00:27:30to Washington, D.C.
00:27:31Another former NSA,
00:27:33John Bolton
00:27:33has also accused
00:27:34Donald Trump
00:27:35of pushing India
00:27:36towards Russia.
00:27:37He says Trump's
00:27:38disastrous tariff policy
00:27:39severely damaged ties
00:27:41with New Delhi.
00:27:42He's also saying
00:27:43that now what we are seeing
00:27:44extremely strained relationship
00:27:46between India
00:27:46and the United States of America.
00:27:48Also stated,
00:27:49India is now angry
00:27:50because Donald Trump
00:27:51repeatedly claimed credit
00:27:53for the ceasefire
00:27:53between India and Pakistan.
00:27:55Commerce Minister
00:27:56Piyush Kowal, however,
00:27:57is saying that India is open.
00:27:59India wants a fair
00:28:00and balanced trade deal
00:28:01with the U.S.,
00:28:02but India will not negotiate
00:28:03under pressure
00:28:04or under any kinds of deadline.
00:28:06Speaking at a conference,
00:28:08the minister confirmed
00:28:08that these talks remain active
00:28:10despite the tariff tension
00:28:11that we are seeing
00:28:12between both the nations.
00:28:13Piyush Kowal also said,
00:28:15India hopes
00:28:15that they will be able
00:28:16to conclude the BTA,
00:28:18which is the trade pact
00:28:19with the United States
00:28:20by November
00:28:20or by the end of this year.
00:28:23For many years,
00:28:25it was a one-sided relationship.
00:28:26Only now since I came along
00:28:28and because of the power
00:28:29that we have with tariffs,
00:28:31India was charging us
00:28:32tremendous tariffs,
00:28:33about the highest in the world.
00:28:35They were about the highest
00:28:35in the world, number one.
00:28:37And we therefore
00:28:39weren't doing much business
00:28:40with India,
00:28:41but they were doing business
00:28:42with us
00:28:42because we weren't charging them.
00:28:43Foolishly,
00:28:44we weren't charging them.
00:28:46So they would send in massive,
00:28:48you know,
00:28:48everything they made,
00:28:49they'd send it in,
00:28:50pour it into our country.
00:28:52Therefore,
00:28:52it wouldn't be made here,
00:28:53you know,
00:28:54which is a negative.
00:28:55But we would not send in anything
00:28:57because they were charging us
00:28:59100% tariffs.
00:29:00And, you know,
00:29:01I'll give you an example,
00:29:02Harley-Davidson.
00:29:03Harley-Davidson couldn't sell
00:29:05into India.
00:29:05There was a 200% tariff
00:29:06on a motorcycle.
00:29:08So what happens?
00:29:09Harley-Davidson went to India
00:29:11and built a motorcycle plant.
00:29:13And now they don't have
00:29:15to pay tariffs.
00:29:16It's true.
00:29:17It's so powerful.
00:29:18It's so big.
00:29:18And I've made it real.
00:29:20I made it really big
00:29:21in the first four years.
00:29:23Then it started to degenerate
00:29:25with what this Biden administration did.
00:29:28But we built it up to a level
00:29:29that I never thought
00:29:30we could be at this quickly.
00:29:31We're the hottest.
00:29:33We're the best.
00:29:33We're the best financially.
00:29:34The money coming in is so big
00:29:35because of tariffs
00:29:36and other things,
00:29:37but because of tariffs.
00:29:38Tariff gets us
00:29:39even those other things.
00:29:41Plus,
00:29:41it gets us great negotiators.
00:29:43I settled seven wars
00:29:44and numerous of those wars
00:29:47were because of trade.
00:29:48He's undermining
00:29:4930 years of bipartisan work
00:29:52to strengthen
00:29:53the U.S.-India alliance.
00:29:55He has imposed
00:29:56a 50% tariff on India,
00:29:59higher than any other country
00:30:02other than Brazil.
00:30:03It's a higher tariff
00:30:04than the tariff on China.
00:30:06It is hurting India's exports
00:30:09of leather and textiles
00:30:10into the United States.
00:30:11And it's hurting
00:30:12American manufacturers
00:30:14and our exports
00:30:16into India.
00:30:17It is also driving India
00:30:19towards China
00:30:21and towards Russia.
00:30:22Now, why is this happening?
00:30:24For very simple reasons.
00:30:26Prime Minister Modi
00:30:27refused to nominate
00:30:28Donald Trump
00:30:29for a Nobel Peace Prize.
00:30:31Well, Pakistan did.
00:30:33And India has said
00:30:34that the border dispute
00:30:35with Pakistan
00:30:36is an internal matter,
00:30:38refusing to give
00:30:39Donald Trump credit.
00:30:40We never negotiate
00:30:41trade deals
00:30:42with deadlines.
00:30:44We only negotiate
00:30:46for a good deal,
00:30:48fair, equitable,
00:30:50mutually beneficial.
00:30:51India is always open
00:30:53to a fair, equitable,
00:30:56and mutually beneficial
00:30:57trading arrangement,
00:31:00trade agreement,
00:31:01which rests on
00:31:03the pillar of trade.
00:31:05Now, India Today's
00:31:09consulting editor,
00:31:10Rajdeep Sardesai,
00:31:11exclusively spoke
00:31:12with Harry Broadman.
00:31:13He's the former
00:31:14chief of staff
00:31:15of Donald Trump's
00:31:16Council of Economic Advisors.
00:31:18The conversation
00:31:18was about the Trump tariff
00:31:20and the threats
00:31:21that India has been getting
00:31:22from the United States
00:31:23of America.
00:31:24Listen in.
00:31:24I appreciate your joining
00:31:27us, Mr. Broadman.
00:31:28You're joining us
00:31:28at a time when
00:31:29every day there is
00:31:30an ever-escalating attack
00:31:32from the Trump administration.
00:31:34If not the president,
00:31:35then his trade advisor,
00:31:36Mr. Navarro,
00:31:37targeting India
00:31:38time and again.
00:31:40Make sense of this
00:31:41for us,
00:31:41because from an Indian
00:31:42perspective,
00:31:43all we are seeing
00:31:44is America playing
00:31:45the role of
00:31:46big bully
00:31:47and thereby
00:31:48appending
00:31:4925 years
00:31:50of a relatively
00:31:51strong, stable
00:31:52relationship
00:31:52between the two
00:31:53democracies.
00:31:57Well, India,
00:31:58unfortunately,
00:31:59is in good company
00:31:59because there are
00:32:00other countries
00:32:01that the president
00:32:03is being quite
00:32:04aggressive with
00:32:06and I think
00:32:06the most important
00:32:07thing is
00:32:08to understand
00:32:10what his motives
00:32:12are and for him
00:32:12to understand
00:32:13what your
00:32:15motives are.
00:32:17I think
00:32:17these are two
00:32:18great democracies
00:32:19and very large
00:32:22countries,
00:32:22obviously India
00:32:23much larger
00:32:24than ours
00:32:24by population.
00:32:27It's a pity
00:32:28that things
00:32:30stand where
00:32:31they are,
00:32:32but my guess
00:32:33is that
00:32:34we will figure
00:32:35out a way
00:32:35of navigating
00:32:36this path
00:32:37together
00:32:37because I think
00:32:39the U.S.
00:32:40needs India
00:32:40and India
00:32:41needs the U.S.
00:32:42This is always
00:32:43sometimes the case
00:32:44at the beginning
00:32:45of negotiations
00:32:46with Mr. Trump.
00:32:48I think when
00:32:48he finally
00:32:49sort of calms
00:32:50down and listens
00:32:51to what the
00:32:52proposals are
00:32:53back and forth,
00:32:54I think there
00:32:55probably will be
00:32:56a deal,
00:32:57but it's going
00:32:57to be rough
00:32:58going.
00:32:58But as I say,
00:33:00if there's any
00:33:00consolation,
00:33:01it's that he's
00:33:02been equally
00:33:03tough with other
00:33:04countries like
00:33:06India.
00:33:06But Mr. Broadbent,
00:33:13is there a
00:33:13rational explanation
00:33:15for what Donald
00:33:16Trump and
00:33:17Mr. Navarro
00:33:18are doing?
00:33:19Mr. Navarro
00:33:20in particular,
00:33:21very, very
00:33:21direct attacks
00:33:22on India
00:33:23day after day.
00:33:25I mean,
00:33:26is this some
00:33:27sort of arm
00:33:28twisting to get
00:33:29the two sides
00:33:30on the negotiating
00:33:31table or is there
00:33:32something that now
00:33:33goes well beyond
00:33:34that and can it
00:33:36be explained at
00:33:36all?
00:33:41Again,
00:33:42you're not alone.
00:33:44I think,
00:33:44you know,
00:33:45I think don't
00:33:46get dismayed
00:33:48and don't,
00:33:48I think,
00:33:49don't respond
00:33:50to his attacks
00:33:51because
00:33:52then you're
00:33:56just feeding
00:33:57the beast.
00:33:58I think important
00:33:59trade relationship
00:34:00and I think
00:34:01both sides
00:34:02with cool
00:34:03heads,
00:34:04you know,
00:34:04will navigate
00:34:05this.
00:34:07You know,
00:34:07I think,
00:34:08you know,
00:34:08as I say,
00:34:09this is part
00:34:11of Mr.
00:34:11Trump's way
00:34:12of doing
00:34:12business.
00:34:13It's,
00:34:14I think,
00:34:14I grew up
00:34:15in New York.
00:34:15I watched
00:34:16him as I
00:34:17grew up.
00:34:17So I'm used
00:34:18to seeing
00:34:19this kind
00:34:19of conduct
00:34:20and I think
00:34:21cooler heads
00:34:22will prevail.
00:34:23I think
00:34:24we have a lot,
00:34:25the U.S.
00:34:25has a lot
00:34:26to gain
00:34:26by improving
00:34:27our trade
00:34:28relationship
00:34:29with India
00:34:29just as India
00:34:30has a lot
00:34:31to gain
00:34:31improving
00:34:32its trade
00:34:33relationship
00:34:33with the U.S.
00:34:37Now,
00:34:38the million dollar
00:34:38question is,
00:34:39why is this
00:34:39axis,
00:34:40the axis
00:34:41between India,
00:34:42China and Russia
00:34:43rattling Donald Trump?
00:34:44There are several
00:34:45concerns.
00:34:46Concern number one,
00:34:47the sanctions
00:34:47are now undermining
00:34:48India,
00:34:49China.
00:34:49They are now
00:34:50all set to buy
00:34:51the Russian crude,
00:34:52undercutting the U.S.
00:34:53sanctions.
00:34:54The other concern,
00:34:55which is a big concern,
00:34:56the concern number two,
00:34:57is the dollar dilemma.
00:34:58There could also
00:34:59be trade that
00:34:59could be happening
00:35:00not using the dollar,
00:35:01so that's something
00:35:02which is a big challenge
00:35:04to the U.S.
00:35:04currency.
00:35:05Concern number three,
00:35:07resource control,
00:35:08which means that
00:35:09the three nations
00:35:09combine,
00:35:10Russia,
00:35:10India and China,
00:35:11they are closely
00:35:12holding one third
00:35:13of the global GDP
00:35:14and in reserves,
00:35:15they have close
00:35:16to 4.7 trillion dollars.
00:35:18So that's something
00:35:19that United States
00:35:19of America
00:35:20very closely
00:35:21is looking at.
00:35:21Let's move on
00:35:22to concern number four,
00:35:24the multipolar move,
00:35:25which means that
00:35:26now these three countries
00:35:27are shifting away
00:35:28from U.S.-led
00:35:29unipolar order.
00:35:31So a new order
00:35:31is in place,
00:35:32that's what most
00:35:32of the experts
00:35:33at the moment
00:35:34are pointing towards.
00:35:35Concern number five,
00:35:37we could see
00:35:37the economic might
00:35:38together,
00:35:39it could actually
00:35:39control 53.9 trillion
00:35:42dollars of GDP
00:35:43and 5 trillion
00:35:44dollars of export,
00:35:45which means that
00:35:46the access that we
00:35:47are seeing,
00:35:48Russia,
00:35:48India and China
00:35:49together,
00:35:49so that's what
00:35:50the global GDP
00:35:51is looking at
00:35:52at the moment
00:35:52with regards
00:35:53to these three nations.
00:35:55Concern number six,
00:35:55population power,
00:35:57which means they
00:35:57are close to
00:35:583.1 billion people,
00:36:00which is almost
00:36:0140% of the global
00:36:02population with regards
00:36:03to these three nations.
00:36:05So these are the things
00:36:06which a lot of experts
00:36:07are now saying
00:36:07is the reason
00:36:08why we are seeing
00:36:09Donald Trump
00:36:10and the U.S.
00:36:10administration now
00:36:11rattling,
00:36:13being uncomfortable
00:36:14and also now
00:36:15trying to push
00:36:16through the tariffs.
00:36:1750% is what
00:36:18India has been
00:36:18levied with,
00:36:19but these three nations
00:36:20together very closely
00:36:22are now looking
00:36:22at what needs
00:36:23to be done.
00:36:24In fact,
00:36:24India today's
00:36:25Mariya Shaquille
00:36:25exclusively had a
00:36:26conversation with
00:36:27American political
00:36:28scientist John
00:36:29Meersheimer.
00:36:30He's termed
00:36:31U.S.
00:36:31administration
00:36:32with India
00:36:33as a colossal
00:36:34blunder
00:36:34and asserted
00:36:35that secondary
00:36:36tariffs in India
00:36:37because they are
00:36:37not buying
00:36:38Russian oil
00:36:39will not work.
00:36:40Listen in.
00:36:43President Trump
00:36:45and his trade
00:36:45advisor have
00:36:46accused India
00:36:47for directly
00:36:48supporting
00:36:49Russia's
00:36:50geopolitical
00:36:51ambitions
00:36:51through its
00:36:52oil imports
00:36:53and have
00:36:54gone on
00:36:55to criticize
00:36:56Prime Minister
00:36:57Modi's
00:36:58cooperation
00:36:59with Putin
00:36:59and Xi Jinping
00:37:01at the
00:37:01SEO summit
00:37:02calling it
00:37:03detrimental
00:37:04to U.S.
00:37:05interests.
00:37:06How do
00:37:07these accusations
00:37:08in fact now
00:37:09fit into the
00:37:10ongoing trade
00:37:11talks between
00:37:12the two nations
00:37:13and is
00:37:14Donald Trump
00:37:15jeopardizing
00:37:1725-year-old
00:37:18carefully crafted
00:37:19relations between
00:37:20the two democracies
00:37:21something that
00:37:22former NSA
00:37:23Jake Sullivan
00:37:24spoke about?
00:37:29Well, I think
00:37:30there's no question
00:37:31that President
00:37:33Trump has done
00:37:34a great deal
00:37:35of damage
00:37:36to U.S.-Indian
00:37:38relations.
00:37:39What's quite
00:37:40paradoxical here
00:37:41is that in his
00:37:42first term
00:37:43as president
00:37:44he did a lot
00:37:45to improve
00:37:46U.S.-Indian
00:37:48relations
00:37:48relations
00:37:49and at the
00:37:49beginning of
00:37:50his second
00:37:50term earlier
00:37:51this year
00:37:52when Prime
00:37:53Minister Modi
00:37:54visited the
00:37:55White House
00:37:55it looked like
00:37:57U.S.-Indian
00:37:58relations were
00:37:58just going to
00:37:59get even
00:37:59better.
00:38:01But in
00:38:01recent months
00:38:02what has
00:38:03happened is
00:38:04that President
00:38:05Trump has
00:38:05taken a
00:38:06number of
00:38:06measures that
00:38:07have basically
00:38:08sabotaged
00:38:09those relations
00:38:10and the
00:38:11United States
00:38:12and India
00:38:13are at
00:38:14loggerheads
00:38:15today.
00:38:15Given the
00:38:16Trump
00:38:16administration's
00:38:17framing of
00:38:18the U.S.-India
00:38:19trade relationship
00:38:21as a totally
00:38:22one-sided
00:38:23disaster
00:38:24and Donald
00:38:26Trump himself
00:38:27took to
00:38:28Truth Social
00:38:28to say so
00:38:29and the
00:38:30subsequent
00:38:30steep tariffs
00:38:32to what extent
00:38:33do you see
00:38:34this economic
00:38:35conflict
00:38:36reflecting an
00:38:37underlying
00:38:38power struggle
00:38:39consistent with
00:38:40your own
00:38:41thesis
00:38:41that great
00:38:43powers
00:38:44seek to
00:38:45limit
00:38:45pure
00:38:46competitors
00:38:47rise?
00:38:49Well I
00:38:50don't think
00:38:50the United
00:38:50States is
00:38:51interested in
00:38:53preventing the
00:38:54rise of
00:38:55India.
00:38:55In fact I
00:38:56think the
00:38:56United States
00:38:57has a vested
00:38:58interest in
00:38:59seeing India
00:39:00grow more
00:39:01powerful just
00:39:02like it has a
00:39:03vested interest
00:39:04in seeing good
00:39:05relations between
00:39:06the United
00:39:06States and
00:39:07India and
00:39:08this is in
00:39:09large part due
00:39:10to the fact
00:39:11that the
00:39:12United States
00:39:13considers China
00:39:14to be its
00:39:15principal
00:39:15adversary and
00:39:17it has a
00:39:17deep-seated
00:39:18interest in
00:39:18having a
00:39:19powerful India
00:39:20help to
00:39:21check China's
00:39:23ambitious
00:39:24agenda in
00:39:25Asia.
00:39:26So from a
00:39:27strategic point
00:39:28of view the
00:39:28United States
00:39:29has a
00:39:30powerful set
00:39:31of incentives
00:39:32to work with
00:39:33India to
00:39:34help make
00:39:34India more
00:39:35powerful.
00:39:36With regard to
00:39:37the economic
00:39:38relations there
00:39:39is no question
00:39:40I think most
00:39:41Indians
00:39:42recognize this
00:39:43that there
00:39:44were economic
00:39:46problems that
00:39:47had to be
00:39:48fixed and
00:39:49India was
00:39:50going to have
00:39:51to make some
00:39:51concessions and
00:39:53people were
00:39:53talking about
00:39:54this in the
00:39:55spring and
00:39:56last winter of
00:39:58this year.
00:39:59So people
00:40:00recognize the
00:40:01economic problem
00:40:03that exists.
00:40:03The trade
00:40:04imbalance for
00:40:05example.
00:40:06Certain Indian
00:40:06tariffs that
00:40:07were bothering
00:40:08the Americans
00:40:09but it looked
00:40:10like the
00:40:10Indians and
00:40:11the Americans
00:40:12were going to
00:40:12be able to
00:40:13work out a
00:40:14deal.
00:40:14These were not
00:40:15insurmountable
00:40:16problems.
00:40:17What I'm saying
00:40:18is that the
00:40:18economic problems
00:40:19which were
00:40:20clearly there
00:40:20were not
00:40:21insurmountable.
00:40:22joining me on
00:40:26the show
00:40:26Bill Drexel
00:40:27who's a
00:40:28geopolitical
00:40:28expert
00:40:28joining us
00:40:29from
00:40:29Washington
00:40:30D.C.
00:40:30Good morning
00:40:31to you
00:40:31Bill.
00:40:32We are
00:40:33now seeing
00:40:33the United
00:40:34States of
00:40:34America
00:40:35US President
00:40:36Donald Trump
00:40:36being very
00:40:37rattled.
00:40:38The bonhomie
00:40:38between the
00:40:39three countries
00:40:40China, India
00:40:41and Russia
00:40:41out on full
00:40:42display at
00:40:43the CSO
00:40:44summit.
00:40:45Also now
00:40:45pointing towards
00:40:46the fact that
00:40:47we could see a
00:40:48change in the
00:40:48global order.
00:40:49Yeah, I
00:40:53think that
00:40:54there's
00:40:54definitely some
00:40:55concern not
00:40:56just with
00:40:56President Trump
00:40:57but across the
00:40:58United States
00:40:59about how
00:40:59close will
00:41:01India be
00:41:02willing to
00:41:02get with
00:41:03China, with
00:41:04Russia, with
00:41:05other countries.
00:41:06There's no doubt
00:41:06about that.
00:41:07At the same
00:41:07time we've
00:41:08seen a lot
00:41:09of photo ops
00:41:09we haven't
00:41:10seen major
00:41:11deals, major
00:41:12progress in
00:41:13military ties,
00:41:14anything of
00:41:14that nature.
00:41:16So I think
00:41:16they're weighing
00:41:18the optics
00:41:19that look
00:41:19very concerning
00:41:20versus, you
00:41:22know, what
00:41:22are the kind
00:41:23of hard
00:41:23diplomatic
00:41:24developments and
00:41:25what are they
00:41:25going to
00:41:25mean?
00:41:28Well, what
00:41:28do you think
00:41:29will happen
00:41:29next?
00:41:30Because we
00:41:30have seen
00:41:30that very
00:41:31stinging
00:41:32remark coming
00:41:33in from the
00:41:33United States
00:41:34of America
00:41:34President.
00:41:35He said
00:41:35that China
00:41:36should remember
00:41:37the blood
00:41:37that went
00:41:39by the U.S.
00:41:40There were a
00:41:40lot of U.S.
00:41:41soldiers.
00:41:42They died
00:41:42to get freedom
00:41:43to China.
00:41:44Also now
00:41:44pointing out
00:41:45and saying
00:41:45that give
00:41:46my regards
00:41:46to the
00:41:47Russian
00:41:47President
00:41:47Vladimir
00:41:48Putin.
00:41:49So do
00:41:49you think
00:41:49with regards
00:41:50to Russia,
00:41:51with regards
00:41:52to China
00:41:52and now
00:41:52also clubbing
00:41:53India in
00:41:54the same
00:41:54way, the
00:41:55U.S.
00:41:55administration
00:41:55all set to
00:41:56take even
00:41:57harder stand?
00:42:01Well, we'll
00:42:01have to see.
00:42:02I think that
00:42:02this kind of
00:42:05post that
00:42:06Trump put out
00:42:07is interesting
00:42:08insofar as
00:42:09he has not
00:42:10been taking
00:42:11so many
00:42:11barbs at
00:42:12China recently.
00:42:13and with
00:42:14some of
00:42:15the kind
00:42:15of friction
00:42:16with the
00:42:16U.S.-India
00:42:17relationship,
00:42:17there's been
00:42:18some who
00:42:18have wondered
00:42:19is President
00:42:20Trump trying
00:42:21to do a
00:42:21big, beautiful
00:42:22deal with
00:42:23China at
00:42:23the expense
00:42:23of India?
00:42:24I think a
00:42:25post like
00:42:25this really
00:42:26drives home
00:42:27that that's
00:42:28very unlikely
00:42:28to be the
00:42:29case.
00:42:30I think
00:42:30that the
00:42:31president has
00:42:32been gearing
00:42:33up to take
00:42:33on China
00:42:34and is
00:42:36concerned about
00:42:37its ambitions
00:42:38and what
00:42:39the Chinese
00:42:40Communist Party
00:42:42is planning
00:42:42potentially with
00:42:43other countries.
00:42:45It's notable
00:42:45also that
00:42:46India did
00:42:46not feature
00:42:47in this
00:42:47post, so
00:42:49it hasn't
00:42:50kind of
00:42:50reached that
00:42:51level, but
00:42:51it's definitely
00:42:52an interesting
00:42:52development and
00:42:54a signal from
00:42:55President Trump
00:42:56that China
00:42:58is still in
00:42:59the crosshairs.
00:43:01Right.
00:43:02Thank you,
00:43:02Bill.
00:43:03China still in
00:43:03the crosshairs.
00:43:04Bill Drexel
00:43:05joining us from
00:43:05Washington, D.C.
00:43:06We are now seeing
00:43:07and it seems like
00:43:08that's what most
00:43:09of the experts
00:43:09are pointing
00:43:09towards, a
00:43:10global rearrangement
00:43:11in the week.
00:43:12Moving now to
00:43:13India, the stage
00:43:14is all set for
00:43:15the 56th GST
00:43:16Council meeting
00:43:17that will take
00:43:17place in the
00:43:18National Capital
00:43:19today.
00:43:19Finance Minister
00:43:20Nirmala Sitarawan
00:43:21will be chairing
00:43:22the two-day
00:43:22session.
00:43:23Sources say
00:43:23reforms will be
00:43:24rolled out around
00:43:25Diwali this
00:43:26time.
00:43:26Lower taxes on
00:43:27essential goods
00:43:28and relief for
00:43:29local vendors,
00:43:30even for
00:43:30consumers, that's
00:43:32something that's
00:43:32on the cards.
00:43:33On the table,
00:43:34pick-ticket GST
00:43:35reforms,
00:43:36rationalization of
00:43:37rates,
00:43:37cutting down of
00:43:38slabs, simplifying
00:43:39the compliance
00:43:40process.
00:43:41The government
00:43:41says the focus
00:43:42is very clear.
00:43:43They want
00:43:43structural reforms,
00:43:44they want
00:43:45rationalization of
00:43:46rates and ease
00:43:47of living.
00:43:47So these are the
00:43:48three things that
00:43:49the government
00:43:49very closely is
00:43:50looking at at
00:43:51the moment.
00:43:52All of this is
00:43:53part of building
00:43:53Atmanirma Bharat
00:43:54and making GST
00:43:55a more simpler,
00:43:57more transparent
00:43:57tax system for
00:43:58inclusive growth.
00:43:59Prime Minister
00:44:00Modi clearly said
00:44:01these are the
00:44:01next generation
00:44:02GST reforms.
00:44:03Now this is
00:44:04something that
00:44:04he said in
00:44:05his independence
00:44:05they address.
00:44:06He promised
00:44:07relief to the
00:44:07common man,
00:44:08to the farmers,
00:44:09the MSMEs and
00:44:10of course to
00:44:11the middle class.
00:44:11The
00:44:16government
00:44:17is
00:44:18working on
00:44:18this
00:44:20in
00:44:20this
00:44:20Diwali.

00:44:21double Diwali.
00:44:22You are doing

00:44:27trust.
00:44:27You are
00:44:29getting
00:44:30to the
00:44:30states.
00:44:30In
00:44:31the last
00:44:32years,
00:44:33we have
00:44:34reformed
00:44:34.
00:44:47.
00:45:02.
00:45:04I am next generation GST reforms I am Laker Kaya are here and I get Diwali

00:45:18tax and I'm not going to come out there are a lot of people who are going to come out
00:45:25Our MSM and our local leaders will get a lot of work.
00:45:29The things will become very difficult to die daily.
00:45:33And the economy will also be able to get a new gift from that.
00:45:41Now let me tell you why this meeting is extremely essential for you and I.
00:45:45Items that are likely to attract Nil GST.
00:45:47Everyday food items, milk, packaged paneer,
00:45:50pizza bread, khaakara, chapati, roti, parathas, the paratha,
00:45:54all of them will be exempted.
00:45:56That's what we are understanding from the government,
00:45:58which means that your budget will now get some kind of a relief.
00:46:02When we speak about education,
00:46:03then educational items like maps, atlases, wall maps, globes,
00:46:08printed educational charts, pencil sharpeners, pencils, crayons,
00:46:12now chalk, drawing board, graphics, lab notebooks.
00:46:16Government sources have told India today,
00:46:17all these things will now have Nil GST,
00:46:20which means that these also will now become cheaper.
00:46:23That's exactly what the government is also promising,
00:46:26that those items that you and I use in our daily life,
00:46:29those items will are all set to get cheaper.
00:46:32What will likely get cheaper?
00:46:33From 12% down to 5%.
00:46:36Butter, condensed milk, jams, namkeens, dates, nuts, mushrooms,
00:46:42all these things that we eat almost on a daily basis,
00:46:45they are also all set to get cheaper.
00:46:48Down from 18% to 5%, chocolates with cocoa,
00:46:52cereal flakes, pastries, ice creams,
00:46:54those are also things which will now,
00:46:56the prices of these things will come down
00:46:58and all this will happen near Diwali.
00:47:00Slash to 5%, cotton, wool man-made,
00:47:04fibre, fabrics, apparel, hosiery, blended textiles,
00:47:07fertilisers also.
00:47:09So this means that the clothes will also be all set to get cheaper.
00:47:12So that's what the government is looking at at the moment.
00:47:17News that's coming in from the state of Karnataka now.
00:47:27It's Congress versus Congress.
00:47:28The Karnataka is fully raging on.
00:47:31Congress rift widens.
00:47:33The Rajanna camp is now targeting the Deputy Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka, D.K. Shif Kumar.
00:47:38Political storm within Karnataka Congress has now intensified.
00:47:42Rajanna's supporters are alleging he was ousted from the Cabinet
00:47:45because of a conspiracy hatched by the Deputy Chief Minister
00:47:48after Rajanna openly spoke about Congress Party's failure
00:47:52to address the vote-chury allegations when they were in power.
00:47:56This is the latest Flashpoint.
00:47:57Leaders Bala Krishna and Rajendra exchanged very sharp words.
00:48:02Detentions are escalating within the Congress camp in the state of Karnataka.
00:48:10Now we are seeing Congress versus Congress taking place in the state of Karnataka.
00:48:15Rajanna's son has now targeted the Deputy Chief Minister in the state of Karnataka, D.K. Shif Kumar,
00:48:20for hatching a conspiracy against his father.
00:48:22So, Congress MLA, Bala Krishna has now hit back.
00:48:26So, we are seeing speculations on Saged Neta.
00:48:29His son has now spoken out and he said that this was a conspiracy hatched
00:48:33by the Deputy Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka, D.K. Shif Kumar.
00:48:38This is K.N. Rajanna loyalist hitting out at the DKS camp.
00:48:43We are now seeing in the state of Karnataka,
00:48:46over time it becomes Congress versus Congress and this is an example of that.
00:48:50Let's listen in to the reactions coming in.
00:48:53Me and I will be here in September.
00:48:57We have to go to BJP.
00:49:00The people are going to go to our country and so on.
00:49:02I don't want to go to BJP.
00:49:04And I don't want to go to BJP.
00:49:06I'm talking to BJP Zarathir.
00:49:08I'm talking to BJP Zarathir.
00:49:10I'm talking to BJP Zarathir.
00:49:13I'm talking to BJP Zarathir.
00:49:16So I'm talking to the people who are saying that...
00:49:19This is the first place in the time we had.
00:49:26Do you have brain mapping?
00:49:30In September we have a brain mapping.
00:49:32We have a brain mapping.
00:49:34We have a brain mapping.
00:49:36We have a link to our brain mapping.
00:49:42обратно.
00:49:43He didn't want to go near all the people who were at bachshik and all the people who were gathered in the meetings.
00:49:54They do not want to get up with their heads.
00:49:59The people who were leading the army of the monks never wanted to get up with them.
00:50:04They can't go to the house of these people.
00:50:08My colleague Sagar Raj is now joining me on the story.
00:50:33Sagar, these are big allegations coming in.
00:50:36Congress versus Congress once again resurfacing in the state of Karnataka.
00:50:40Absolutely, and if you notice that K.N. Rajan, when he tendered his resignation and after
00:50:45meeting Chief Minister, he has categorically mentioned that there is a conspiracy and he
00:50:49will try to reveal all those things at the right time.
00:50:52And now his camp is already hitting out at Deputy Chief Minister D.K.
00:50:55Shurukumar calling it as that D.K.
00:50:58Shurukumar is the main person to plot the conspiracy of ousting K.N. Rajan from the
00:51:05Cabinet.
00:51:06And if you notice that the D.K. Shurukumar has also slammed K.N. Rajan, stating that his
00:51:12own statements have ended up him to face the music from the High Command.
00:51:18And if you notice that he had hit out at Congress party names, stating that we were not cautious
00:51:25the O Churi in the state.
00:51:26And after that particular state went, the High Command has taken a decision and asked the
00:51:32Chief Minister to drop him from the Cabinet.
00:51:35However, Rajan still believes that it is the conspiracy of D.K. Shurukumar and not High Command.
00:51:40Thank you, Sakai, for giving us those details.
00:51:43It's not the High Command but a conspiracy hatched by the Deputy Chief Minister in the state of
00:51:47Karnataka.
00:51:48Are the allegations coming in in the state of Karnataka?
00:51:50News coming in from the political front now after Pawan Khaira of the Congress.
00:52:04His wife, Kota Neelima, is also in BJP's crosshairs for two voter ID cards.
00:52:09BJP has launched a fresh attack on the Congress party, targeting not only senior leader Pawan
00:52:14Khaira, but also his wife, Kota Neelima.
00:52:17BJP is alleging that both of them hold multiple voter ID cards.
00:52:21BJP IT cell chief Amit Malwia has claimed that Neelima, contested from Telangana, actually
00:52:26has two active epic cards, one in the national capital and one in the state of Telangana.
00:52:33And linked that this is an earlier revelation that was given by Khaira himself, that he possessed
00:52:38two voter ID cards.
00:52:39So this is something that BJP has been speaking about, not just the Congress leader Pawan Khaira,
00:52:44but now fingers are being raised at his wife also.
00:52:47BJP is claiming that Pawan Khaira's wife, Kota Neelima, also has not one but two epic cards,
00:52:54one in the state of Telangana and the other in the national capital.
00:53:01Pawan Khaira himself possesses two dual voter ID cards.
00:53:04In fact, the Election Commission of India has also given time to Pawan Khaira,
00:53:07till the 8th of September.
00:53:0911 a.m. is the deadline.
00:53:10Pawan Khaira will have to give explanation with regards to the allegations that are being
00:53:15launched by the BJP.
00:53:16BJP is now saying Pawan Khaira, along with his wife, both of them have two voter ID cards.
00:53:22The Election Commission has now given a deadline, 11 a.m. on the 8th of September.
00:53:27Consoon mayhem has hit the people in the Delhi NCR region very hard.
00:53:36Yamna River has crossed the danger mark of 206.36 meters.
00:53:41The government has sounded a flood alert.
00:53:43Evacuations in the low-lying areas are almost over.
00:53:46Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad have been asked to remain shut as a precautionary measure.
00:53:51The disaster management teams have been deployed as the Delhi government sounded the flood alert
00:53:55across the national capital.
00:53:57Evacuations have begun in the low-lying colonies.
00:53:59Families are now being shifted to safer grounds and relief camps.
00:54:03Traffic police have now started issuing advisories.
00:54:05Water logging could actually worsen in several pockets.
00:54:08For Delhiites, this is bringing back the haunting memories of July 2023.
00:54:13The Yamna had swelled up to 208.66 meters.
00:54:17This was the highest level recorded in the past 70 years, in the last seven decades.
00:54:22Today, the Yamna water is at 206.36 meters.
00:54:26The city is already on the edge once again.
00:54:28What's actually adding to the crisis?
00:54:30The massive discharge from Hatnikund, Wazirabad and the Okla barrages.
00:54:34At Hatnikund alone, there are more than 1.7 lakh Sussex water.
00:54:38It has been released in the past 24 hours.
00:54:40All this is now rushing downstream into the national capital.
00:54:43The tribal movement has been bought.
00:54:44There are more than 1.7 lakhs.
00:54:46So, there is a temple.
00:54:48The community is also també a man named Fulrich.
00:54:49The square of the mines and the city had been found.
00:54:50And we are finally going to the house.
00:54:51The country has been taken, but there is only a temple.
00:54:52The city has been found.
00:54:53The city has been also taken, but there is a temple.
00:54:55You are taking a temple.
00:54:56The city has been being taken on the steps.
00:54:57The city has been sent and over.
00:54:58The city has been sent.
00:55:00You are not from the temple and you are not from the temple,
00:55:01The city has been taken.
00:55:02foreign
00:55:16foreign
00:55:32My colleagues are now joining me.
00:55:39Sneha Murdani is joining me live from the IIT Ubaraj in the National Capital.
00:55:43Also joining me Shreya Chatterjee.
00:55:46Asim Basi is now joining us from Manali.
00:55:49Asim Basi will be joining us later.
00:55:51Coming to you first, Sneha.
00:55:52We understand that the situation is getting grim with each passing movement.
00:55:57The city already is on the edge.
00:56:02Well absolutely, you know Aishwarya, very good morning to you and of course to our viewers as well.
00:56:08I'd like to tell you that the situation is of course extremely worrisome given that the danger level is what we breach.
00:56:14And there is a risk of flooding.
00:56:16If the rains increase it will just add to the woes of Delhiites.
00:56:19But before we talk about that a little and about the kind of arrangements that have been made.
00:56:23I'd like to talk to you about a very key piece of infrastructure in the National Capital.
00:56:27And that I'd like to ask Sanjay in fact to show you.
00:56:31This is in fact the IIT Ubaraj.
00:56:32This barrage in spite of being in Delhi is controlled by the Haryana government.
00:56:38And this is where the catch really is.
00:56:41I'd like to tell you Aishwarya that the malfunctioning of the gates of this IIT Ubaraj.
00:56:47There were 32 gates of this barrage which have now been opened up.
00:56:51The flood irrigation minister of the Delhi government Parvesh Verma is managing this right now.
00:56:55And he's about to come here as well.
00:56:57The last time around it was because of this barrage not getting opened is when Delhi was completely flooded if you recall in the year 2023.
00:57:07And that's the reason why the timely opening of the gates is so important as far as the IIT Ubaraj is concerned.
00:57:13Having said that, right now the concern is that the water levels have risen.
00:57:20It's in fact crossed the danger mark.
00:57:22And we've seen many low-lying areas of Delhi have been completely flooded.
00:57:27The water here at the river Yamuna where we are at this point in time just next to the barrage is also completely swollen up.
00:57:34It's above the danger mark, 205 is of course the danger mark and we've crossed the 206 mark already.
00:57:43And when it rains further, which it will, as per the med department, what we'll really see is that it'll add to the woes of Delhiites.
00:57:52It remains to be seen how the people living in the low-lying areas of Delhi, particularly North East Delhi and East Delhi, the Trans Yamuna region manage.
00:58:01Of course, there is the other story that we've been telling our viewers about and how people have set up their homes in these embankments.
00:58:09Many of them are homes, are being seen as encroachments.
00:58:13But that is something that the government at this point in time has no control over.
00:58:18In spite of asking these people to vacate, there is the issue of how many people live along the banks of Yamuna for religious reasons.
00:58:26And we've spoken about that as well.
00:58:28But evacuating these people, which has already been done, to avoid a situation like in the year 2023, when there was just so much devastation for people living in low-lying areas of Delhi,
00:58:40that is something that the government would want to avoid.
00:58:43And one of these key infrastructures, like I mentioned, is the ITU barrage.
00:58:46The floodgates have been thrown open, about 32 of them.
00:58:50Key in regulating the flow of water to the river Yamuna.
00:58:53And that is something that has been done already.
00:58:56But the water levels, I'd like to tell you, has risen.
00:59:00Areas which weren't flooded yesterday and preparations were being made are already flooded today.
00:59:05For example, and we'll be going to those sites and getting you those pictures as well.
00:59:09From the monastery area in the national capital, again, Majnuka Teela, which saw a fair amount of water logging, has got more water today.
00:59:16Yamuna Bazar, I'm being told, has become completely inaccessible.
00:59:20Of course, we were there in Yamuna Bazar yesterday, getting you those pictures of how everybody had left their homes and enough tents had not, in fact, been set up.
00:59:28And that is the grouse that the people have as well.
00:59:30There are a couple of tents have been put up.
00:59:32Clearly, not enough for the residents who are affected, are forced to leave their homes.
00:59:36And of course, food and medical supplies also need to be improved on.
00:59:40That kind of supply chain also needs to be made tighter, is what the people are saying.
00:59:45Aishwarya.
00:59:45Right, Sneha, you know, we'll come back to you.
00:59:48Our other colleagues, Shreya Chatterjee, is also joining us from Lohapul.
00:59:51Shreya, we understand the evacuation process over the past 24 hours is almost complete.
00:59:56There's also an alert, a flood alert, which has been sounded by the national capital, by the government.
01:00:05Well, absolutely, Aishwarya.
01:00:06You know, I'm actually atop the newly constructed railway bridge, which is just beside the Lohapul.
01:00:11And this is probably one of those positions from where I can give you a top-angle view of how the low-lying areas of the north and northeast region has been completely inundated.
01:00:22Towards my left, I'll ask my cameraman, Nasser, to show you the monastery area that is the Majnu Katila region, as well as the Yamuna Bazar area, which is completely under the water.
01:00:31This is well above the danger mark, well above 2.06.
01:00:34It's almost nearing the all-time high that was there in July 2023, which was above 2.08.
01:00:40So clearly, the risk stays.
01:00:42And because the water continues to be released from the Hattani Kund barrage, not as much as it was released day before yesterday,
01:00:49but still, the threat perception of a flood situation persists in the national capital.
01:00:55The only sigh of relief that probably could avoid this situation is that the ITO barrage this time is fully functional, unlike it was in 2023.
01:01:05So if that can actually provide a respite, we will be knowing only later.
01:01:10But as you see, I'll ask my cameraman to show you how the waters are almost touching the Lohapul and the old construction bridge way above the mark than it usually flows.
01:01:19So this is the reality from the ground.
01:01:22And if the water in Yamuna continues to rise like this, crosses the 207 mark, a flood situation is inevitable in the national capital.
01:01:32Right, Shreya.
01:01:32Shreya and Sneha, please stay on with me.
01:01:34Let's now move on and see what's happening in the city of Gurugram,
01:01:37because those were the visuals that everyone saw.
01:01:40Massive traffic and massive flooding in the city of Gurugram.
01:01:49What you are seeing now, reports coming in from the city of Gurugram.
01:02:10My colleague Milan is on the ground. Take a look at her report.
01:02:12Rains wash out the complete facade that Gurugram is on development.
01:02:21And as you can see, even though with little bit of rains, this is the condition of roads in the millennial city,
01:02:29which doesn't spare anyone.
01:02:31The biggest of the cars have to go through such apathy to cross a road not very far from the poshest areas of Gurugram.
01:02:41And look at the condition of the bikes that are crossing from here.
01:02:46People are unaware that there is a very dangerous porthole right in the middle of the road,
01:02:52which is causing trouble to most vehicles coming in from here.
01:02:57And this is what leads to traffic congestions.
01:03:00This is what leads to long distance of traffic snarls.
01:03:05Look at that. This biker is crossing from such a dangerous porthole and he's stuck here.
01:03:11The common man is just suffering each time there is a little bit of rainfall in the millennial city.
01:03:18With Ankit Singh Milan Sharma for India today.
01:03:20Whether it's a disaster or a water drop, we always work with the Nigam Prashasana and all the parts of the population.
01:03:27We work with social media and people also speak positive.
01:03:32Like you said in the Tribune,
01:03:35there is a rain coming, but it is a attitude of MCG.
01:03:37We are all attentive to each issue.
01:03:39Like the rain, we need to take a little peace.
01:03:43What is happening?
01:03:44As many videos you are watching, they are in the time of the rain.
01:03:48There are 116 places where the water is filled.
01:03:52We have covered them in the 50-50 area.
01:03:55We have covered them in the 100-100 area.
01:03:58We are going to cover that area quickly and quickly quickly.
01:04:02The Commissioner has been the whole process.
01:04:04We have also seen the first 10 months before the rain.
01:04:08And the Commissioner has also been here.
01:04:10That's why we think that all of the people are running.
01:04:13And when the rain continues, they continue.
01:04:19Monsoon fury has now turned the entire northern India into a landscape of utter chaos.
01:04:24In Punjab, which is the land of five rivers, unfortunately it has become the land of floods.
01:04:30From Gurdaspur to Barnala, villages now lie drowned, fields have been completely swallowed,
01:04:35and rooftops have now become rafts.
01:04:38Rescue and relief operations are underway across the state.
01:04:40Thousands of villages, hectares of farmland completely lost.
01:04:44Nearly lakhs of people have been displaced.
01:04:46Punjab's Chief Minister, he took stock of the floods,
01:04:49got extremely emotional while he was meeting the families affected by the floods.
01:04:53Amadnipati MLAs have now pledged that they will be donating a month's salary to the Chief Minister Relief Fund
01:04:59in order to help Punjab battle with the deluge.
01:05:02If Punjab is gasping for breath, we move on to the state of Himachal Pradesh,
01:05:06which is buried under the weight of rain.
01:05:08Hill State has declared itself as disaster hit.
01:05:11In Jambalalo, losses stand at Crores.
01:05:14We are now seeing the rivers raging across landslides have cut highways.
01:05:18Homes are lying in ruins.
01:05:20Yet more than 1,000 people are stranded.
01:05:22These are the pilgrims who have been pulled to safety.
01:05:25Today, we are seeing the business owners,
01:05:32the family members of the Balkan and thevast feeding plan.

01:06:35The Prime Minister's phone also asked me, and the Home Minister's phone also asked me.
01:06:45And when there is a problem, when there is a little water, you can ask me again.
01:06:55There are two houses in this house. There were four people in the first house.
01:07:03There were two people in the beginning, a lady and a child.
01:07:07They were going to the hospital, but they didn't live in the same way.
01:07:12In the second house, there was a girl in the second house.
01:07:17Now, we are still trying to do the first house.
01:07:21We are still trying to do the first house.
01:07:26My colleague Asim Bassi is now joining me from Manali.
01:07:31I've seen very unfortunate visuals, very unfortunate videos coming in from the state of Himachal Pradesh.
01:07:36We are seeing how the devastation is at large.
01:07:39Thousands of people have been displaced and massive losses.
01:07:42Losses running into crores of rupees.
01:07:45Yes, definitely. This monsoon has been very, very aggressive.
01:07:52And many has turned into a big destroyer for Himachal Pradesh.
01:07:55Loss of life, loss of infrastructure and much more.
01:07:58Yesterday, only in Mandi, six people died because of a landslide.
01:08:01Today, I'm standing at the entry point of Manali.
01:08:04And the bad news is that it is continuously raining.
01:08:07You can see the Biasavar, which basically created a lot of havoc for Himachal Pradesh and even Punjab,
01:08:13is flowing in full spate.
01:08:15But the major cause of concern is that it is badly raining here.
01:08:19It is raining very, very heavily here since yesterday.
01:08:22It was a red alert yesterday and it rained all day.
01:08:25It stopped a while in the night, but ever since morning broke out,
01:08:30it has been raining very, very heavily, basically making people on the edge over here.
01:08:35Because restoration works are on.
01:08:37Now also where I'm standing, it is an alternative route,
01:08:40which was closed because of a landslide this morning and now just opened.
01:08:44But the issue is that Himachal Pradesh has faced losses because of rain.
01:08:48And rain is not stopping infrastructure, human lives and a lot of loss of connectivity,
01:08:53even the apple growers are in a mess.
01:08:59Right, Aseem.
01:09:01Right, thank you, Aseem, giving us all those details.
01:09:04My colleague giving us those details in Manali.
01:09:06The state of Himachal Pradesh now has been declared as disaster hit.
01:09:12Those are the visuals of...
01:09:14Now the state of Punjab is battling severe floods.
01:09:17And this has unfortunately brought back the horrific memories of 1988
01:09:21when the raging Satlas, Bias and Ravi rivers turned into waters of sorrows
01:09:26and claimed over 500 lives across the state of Punjab.
01:09:29Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:30More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:31Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:32More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:34Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:35More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:36Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:37More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:41Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:48Over 2.56 lakh people impacted.
01:09:50More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:54More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:09:55More than 15,000 evacuated.
01:10:012.32 lakh acres of farmland submerged.
01:10:07Punjab is suffering its worst floods in nearly four decades.
01:10:11Cities and villages are equally hit.
01:10:24Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Firozpur, Fazilka, Pathankot, Kapurthala and Hoshyarpur are the worst affected districts.
01:10:33In this village of Firozpur, a school has been converted into a relief shelter.
01:10:50The water is 7-7, 8-8, 8-8.
01:10:53It's a big city.
01:10:55Today we have 8-9.
01:10:58Another village nearby is cut off with the road linking it going under water.
01:11:08Residents say they got no help for last four days.
01:11:13On Tuesday, the authorities were busy making arrangements for Chief Minister Bhagawan Maan's visit.
01:11:19Governor Gulab Chankatariya too visited relief centers.
01:11:24What stands out is the initiative of citizens.
01:11:37Common man and celebrities both standing up to serve.
01:11:43Vehicles taking food to flood hit areas are hard to miss.
01:12:02Organizations are setting up relief camps and providing medical help.
01:12:08The crisis is making people wonder if it was a man-made one.
01:12:25It's a man-made disaster.
01:12:26It's a man-made disaster.
01:12:27And there's no reason that year after year, or let's say every two years in Punjab,
01:12:32floods come in such a way and devastation.
01:12:38It's clear that we have not been bothered about floods control or early warnings.
01:12:46The med department has issued red alert in many areas.
01:12:55The worst may not be over yet for Punjab.
01:12:59With Aman Bhardwaj, Kamal Jeet Sandhu and Navjot Randhava, Bureau Report, India Today.
01:13:09That's all the time we have on the Bulletin.
01:13:10We are now wrapping up.
01:13:11.
01:13:21.
