High political drama unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir as the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Conference staged counter-protests in Srinagar. The BJP launched a mega demonstration from Lal Chowk planning to march towards the Civil Secretariat, accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of failing to provide basic governance, raising electricity tariffs, and neglecting unemployment. Simultaneously, National Conference leaders and cadres assembled in the Rajbagh area to march towards the BJP office, reiterating demands for the restoration of Article 370, statehood, and constitutional guarantees. Both political demonstrations led to barricades, restricted vehicular movement, and heavy police deployment across Srinagar to maintain law and order. Security forces prevented the BJP march to the Secretariat and halted NC workers marching towards the BJP office, prompting both sides to stage sit-in protests.

00:00Shifting focus now to Jammu and Kashmir. It's a massive protest that's been staged by the BJP in Srinagar.
00:06BJP has alleged the failure of the Omar government in Jammu and Kashmir.
00:10Mega BJP stir at Srinagar's Lal Chowk. BJP says Omar can't provide basic governance.
00:17BJP stir is against the power tariff and the unemployment in the particular region itself.
00:23Well, BJP and C face-off imminent as both parties have planned a day of gherao politics in Jammu and
00:30Kashmir.
00:31It's a politically heated landscape that we are speaking of that's in fact come about to erupt in Srinagar.
00:37Security has of course been beefed up outside the BJP office and the civil secretary in Srinagar as we speak
00:42while the national conference party leaders and workers have also assembled in another area, the Rajabag area, to march towards
00:50the BJP office.
00:51So this is one protest and to counter that protest and the demands or the issues being raised by that
00:57protest of the BJP,
00:59it is the NC party carders as well who have launched their own protest as a counter to the first
01:05one.
01:06So this is Lal Chowk that the visuals are coming in.
01:09We have Meir Farid bringing us ground reports from there. Let's listen in to what he has for us.
01:13We want to see.
01:55So viewers, this is what we are in fact getting to see at this given point from Srinagar as our
02:02colleague was also bringing us details of these protests to respective protests that we are speaking of viewers.
02:08The BJP and the National Conference Party in a face-off of sorts when we are speaking of one protesting
02:15and the other, counter-protesting to the other part.
02:17It is Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's governance over which the BJP has raised issues saying that he is not being
02:25able to govern Jammu and Kashmir at this given point.
02:28The governance has failed. That is what the BJP has come out to raise.
02:31But the NC leaders and workers have also come out to assemble in Rajabhag and they have come out to
02:36march towards the BJP office instead.
02:39So we see an entire Gerao politics episode that is playing out in Srinagar at this given point.
02:45The BJP has planned their own secretariat at Gerao as well.
02:48Heavy police contingent can be seen amid all of this to ensure that there is no untoward situation that comes
02:54about amid these protests and they remain peaceful at large.
02:58Of course, these are just the beginning of the day protests that we see.
03:05These are the visuals that are coming in just at the beginning of the day in terms of the protests
03:09that are happening in Srinagar.
03:12Several aspects being raised.
03:14Of course, security being won, governance being won.
03:17There is that entire matter of statehood that Omar Abdullah's party has oftentimes and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself has
03:25raised time and again.
03:26So that is something the National Conference has of course kept being extremely vocal about and bringing up to highlight.
03:33The BJP on their part continues to say that they are failing to govern Jammu and Kashmir aptly as it
03:39is required to be.
03:41It is a sensitive region that we are all aware of.
03:43Elections took place just a little while back where the National Conference party was voted to power.
03:50And it was Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who took over the reins in this very region.
03:56You can see the heavy police deployment as we are speaking.
03:59We will have to keep a watch out whether there are any detentions or not of any kind as the
04:04day progresses.
04:05But Meir Farid joins me on the broadcast with more details on the same.
04:08Meir, a very good morning to you.
04:11The day has just begun.
04:12So have the protests.
04:13We already see both of the sides clashing with each other in some sorts.
04:18Take us through what's happening.
04:24Well, it is a day of protests and in fact the era of politics in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP
04:30and the National Conference walking horns.
04:32And right now I am in Raj Bagh area.
04:35This is the police station area.
04:36And behind me, as you can see, the National Conference workers, their leaders have assembled here.
04:41It was a day for them to create a spectacle and show their seriousness towards what were their poll promises
04:48like restoration of Article 370, bringing back statehood constitutional guarantees, etc.
04:55And to press for their demands, they have assembled here.
04:58There were chaotic scenes.
05:00As you can see, the police has barricaded this area.
05:03They are not going to allow the National Conference to move towards the BJP office.
05:07The plan was for the N.C. to move towards that office, do a gherav and press for their demands.
05:12Now, there were chaotic scenes.
05:14The N.C. workers tried to force their way through these barricades and they were stopped by the police.
05:19Now, the situation lasts six, seven years after Article 370 abrogation.
05:23The police administration does not allow any kind of protests because they feel that this could create law and order
05:28issues and disturb the situation.
05:30But yes, similar protests by the BJP as well.
05:34They had their own gherav plan.
05:36And they wanted to move from Lal Chokh towards the secretariat and demand for resignation of Umar Abdullah.
05:42Because according to them, the N.C. government has failed to fulfill poll promises and also, in fact, has only
05:48increased tariffs, electricity tariffs and burdening the common man.
05:53So, politics, in fact, yeah, yeah, this is, this is, this is, this is, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:00So, this is the sentiment here.
06:03But obviously, a lot of pressure on both the parties, especially the national conference because it has been alleged opposition
06:09saying that the N.C. has gone soft on its issues, is going soft on the BJP government because they
06:15want to please them, you know, so that they can get the article, the statehood back.
06:20So, that was the allegation.
06:22Today, the N.C. trying to answer these critics through this protest.
06:26But quite clearly, a day of gherav politics and similar scenes in Lal Chokh where the police, again, is not
06:34allowing the BJP to move towards the secretariat.
06:36So, sit-in right now, as you can see, the N.C. workers and leaders are sitting here and holding
06:42a sit-in.
06:44So, that really is the situation.
06:45Sit-in protest is what we see.
06:46Meir, thank you for bringing us all of those details from right there where the protests have erupted.
06:53Two locations, viewers, that we bring to you these visuals from at this given point.
06:57One being launched by the BJP and the other by the N.C.
07:01In Srinagar itself, two different protests taking place.
