01:42Bueno, primero, cuéntanos quién eres.
01:45No quiero hacer eso.
01:46Ok.
01:46Mira cómo rípto yo era.
01:48Mira esa belly.
01:49Good God.
02:09His father, Angelo Poffo, was one of the greats.
02:12And Angelo had a wrestling territory.
02:16It was considered, back in the day,
02:19an outlaw wrestling territory.
02:22Can't do nothing against the macho man here.
02:24Number one professional wrestler,
02:26complete metal, infinity, yeah!
02:29What a champion, Randy.
02:31You're going down in the street,
02:33the greatest, the greatest ever.
02:35I also broke this chair by sitting down!
02:37Then all of a sudden, it's time for Randy Savage to appear.
02:41Jimmy, baby, the best thing that you can do
02:43is probably just stand back
02:44and let the macho man talk
02:46because there's nothing that you could say
02:47that I couldn't say better myself.
02:49There was a period in the wrestling business
02:51where if you were crazy on screen,
02:54you were crazy off screen.
02:56You had to live your gimmick.
02:58And Randy played crazy really well.
03:00He lived 24-7.
03:06Just personally, do you think it'd be okay
03:08if I came out that Randy was a bedwetter?
03:13What was it like growing up with Randy as a brother?
03:16He's the same as any other alpha male
03:21except his dial is not only past 10,
03:24but it's broken and it's gone off the hinges.
03:27I was upstaged every day,
03:29but I knew it was getting over,
03:31so I was proud to be holding the rope.
03:33He had a dream that he could be a villain,
03:35a bad guy, a ruffian.
03:37He wanted to be an antagonist
03:39because he felt he had more creativity
03:42than just being the pawn of the villain.
03:45Randy would take a lot of risks.
03:48He would say,
03:49yeah, I stare under a candle for two hours.
03:53Stare under a candle for about two hours
03:55and cut my head together.
03:57Some people loved him, some people hated him,
04:00but everybody respected him
04:01because when you see that kind of athleticism,
04:04you have to buy into it.
04:09So this is my autograph table.
04:11Okay, this was another night where, like,
04:13I think everybody was drinking too much red wine,
04:15and right here is that little saying.
04:18You never know what he meant by it,
04:20but that's what Macho carved into the table,
04:23and he used to say,
04:24whatever it takes.
04:27I'm Linda Bollea,
04:28married to my ex-husband,
04:30professional wrestler Hulk Hogan,
04:32for 25 years.
04:33Oh, that was back when we loved each other.
04:36In the olden days.
04:37So once I met Miss Elizabeth,
04:39we ended up being friends
04:40because I was really
04:41the only other female on the road.
04:44Elizabeth was from Frankfurt, Kentucky.
04:46Good upbringing.
04:47She addressed her mom as mother,
04:49and she said,
04:50we were broke.
04:51My dad left early.
04:53It was just me and my mom and my brother,
04:55and money was always really tight.
04:57There was a gym called Sintay Sports Center,
05:00and Randy worked out there,
05:01and then one fine day,
05:03a new girl came,
05:05and that was Elizabeth Hewlett.
05:07And she said Randy was in the gym
05:08about 6 in the morning,
05:10and she's working the front desk,
05:12and he comes in,
05:13and she goes,
05:13oh my,
05:14your eyes are so red.
05:16And he goes,
05:17you should see them from this side.
05:18And I looked at Liz and said,
05:20that did it for you?
05:22That one line,
05:23like real duet?
05:24My name is Scott Oliver Hall.
05:26I also was wrestled as Razor Ramon,
05:29the bad guy.
05:30I don't know,
05:30if I was a chick,
05:31I'd have begged Randy.
05:32I thought he was cool as hell.
05:34Randy would always tell the story
05:35that there was love at first sight.
05:37Yeah, she saw me and fill in love.
05:39What more could she want?
05:41Liz would always be like,
05:43eh,
05:44it took a little while
05:45to get used to it.
05:47She was beautiful,
05:48she was phenomenal,
05:49and she was excellent.
05:51What a nice person too.
05:53And I think that came across
05:54on television.
05:56Elizabeth got involved in ICW
05:58as an announcer,
05:59and she also helped with the editing.
06:02Because it was a mom and pop shop,
06:03we did everything.
06:04And she was adaptable,
06:06and brilliant,
06:07and very quick to learn.
06:09Their first wedding,
06:11was in Frankfort, Kentucky,
06:13at the home of Elizabeth's mother.
06:17And that was about six months before
06:19Randy made his debut with WWE.
06:22All right,
06:23this is going to be a Jimmy Hart one.
06:24Here we go.
06:25Hey, it's me,
06:25the mouth of the South Jimmy Hart.
06:27The sun is shining,
06:28life is great.
06:29There's Randy and myself and Hulk
06:31in WCW when I managed them
06:33for a few matches.
06:34The rest was history.
06:35He goes,
06:36how's New York?
06:37I said, it's great.
06:37I said, look,
06:38they just saw your tapes.
06:39They want you in New York.
06:41The macho man,
06:42Randy Savage,
06:44who is quite a competitor,
06:46making his World Wrestling Federation debut.
06:48Vince and Linda McMahon
06:49had come down to Florida
06:50to get the contract signed
06:54before WrestleMania 1.
06:55Is that Vince?
06:56Oh my gosh.
06:58Whoa.
06:58When Vince took over,
06:59he went around every territory
07:01and took the very best
07:02of what was available.
07:03He made you bigger than life.
07:04Vince was taking it
07:07to a whole completely new level
07:08that none of us
07:09were ready for
07:11or even knew about
07:12or used to
07:12and we were all in
07:14for a big, huge learning curve.
07:15You know,
07:16when Macho came on board,
07:17Vince was like,
07:18well, you know,
07:18we really want your character
07:20to have a valet,
07:22a woman,
07:22a manager.
07:24Yeah, I think Randy
07:24probably just sat down
07:25and said, look,
07:26you know,
07:26I want to come up here
07:27and I think I can make you money
07:29in this territory.
07:30Can we work a spot out for Liz
07:31because she's going to go with me
07:33on the road.
07:34She's going to be with me.
07:35Randy, if he loves somebody,
07:36whether it was his brother
07:37or whether it was Liz
07:39or whoever,
07:39he was going to be
07:40very loyal to them.
07:41Macho Madness
07:42at this peak right now
07:44and we all know
07:47who the manager
07:48is going to be.
07:49They fell in love with her
07:50as soon as she opened up the door
07:52and stepped into
07:52wrestling history.
07:53He comes.
07:56Oh, uh-oh.
07:57Oh, my.
08:00Liz was very demure,
08:01very quiet,
08:03gentle soul.
08:05The person and the character
08:06were really one and the same.
08:08As far as the persona
08:11of the Macho Man
08:13and the package
08:14of the Macho Man
08:15and Miss Elizabeth
08:16was they were two opposites.
08:18And Randy so intense
08:20and Elizabeth so subdued.
08:23They wanted you to love Elizabeth
08:25and hate Randy.
08:27Picture of Elizabeth,
08:28no picture of the Macho Man
08:29and Randy Savage.
08:30That's very, very, very bad Elizabeth.
08:33Randy would bring her out.
08:35She'd stand at ringside.
08:36He'd get into Randy's circle
08:37and then he'd get out.
08:38No, I told you to stand here.
08:40And people were hating Randy
08:41just for browbeating
08:42the beautiful young girl.
08:44Like, you know,
08:44you can do better than him, honey.
08:45Get away from him.
08:46And there would be times
08:47that Randy would give Liz
08:49a look and just
08:50turn his head
08:52and give her those eyes
08:53and she would almost
08:54be subservient.
08:56Well, Macho Man
08:57and Randy Savage
08:57isn't that right, Elizabeth?
08:58That's right, Randy.
08:59Shut up and keep polishing.
09:01If I lose today,
09:02it's your fault.
09:03Each time he did it,
09:04they just,
09:04oh, you're sorry, son of a...
09:06You know,
09:06and that's exactly
09:07what they wanted.
09:08And you want Liz
09:10to see the light.
09:11But Liz,
09:12underneath this,
09:13you're seeing,
09:14man,
09:14she loves her man.
09:15And you infer that
09:17Randy mistreats her.
09:20But he never really does.
09:22He's just a little intense.
09:24By the spring of 1987,
09:26Elizabeth and Randy
09:27are red hot.
09:28They're about to make history
09:29in front of a record-breaking
09:30crowd of 93,000 fans.
09:33WrestleMania III was,
09:35at the time,
09:35the largest indoor
09:36attendance record.
09:37I mean,
09:37the largest gathering indoor
09:39of any event
09:40in the world.
09:41Oh, Jesus.
09:42That's unbelievable, man.
09:4690,000 people.
09:48I had Alice Cooper with me.
09:50I mean,
09:50the electricity
09:51from the crowd
09:51was just unbelievable.
09:53I mean,
09:54your skin is crawling.
09:55It feels like
09:56your hair is growing.
09:57The Randy Savage
09:58Ricky Steamboat match
10:00at WrestleMania III,
10:01I think a lot of people
10:02consider one of the greatest
10:03matches of all time.
10:04Two of the greatest
10:05athletes that I have
10:06ever seen in my life.
10:08All that athleticism,
10:10all the drama,
10:11all that excitement,
10:13it killed him
10:14that he could never
10:15surpass that match.
10:16He was a perfectionist,
10:18and perfectionists
10:19are never happy.
10:21The thing with Savage,
10:22I learned later on,
10:23of course,
10:23when I started working
10:24with Savage,
10:25was trying to hold him down.
10:28Because he always
10:30wanted to give more.
10:31Well, sometimes
10:32you can give too much.
10:35Two years after their debut,
10:36Randy and Elizabeth
10:37are taking the WWF
10:39by storm.
10:39But a surprising twist
10:41in their storyline
10:42would propel them
10:43to the top
10:44of the wrestling world.
10:48I pulled out
10:49a bunch of pictures
10:50I tried to find
10:51of Liz and Randy.
10:52This is sweet.
10:55It was Randy and Liz.
10:56This was just at the condo.
10:57We were just hanging out
10:58in Florida.
10:59Polaroid picture.
11:01Macho.
11:02A little picture of Elizabeth.
11:03She's so sweet.
11:04So Macho Man,
11:05he always kept Elizabeth
11:06in the dressing room,
11:07so nobody really knew her.
11:09And then one night,
11:11Macho came into
11:11our dressing room
11:12and said,
11:13where's Linda?
11:15And Liz needs
11:16some help
11:17with her hair.
11:20And she had her hair
11:20kind of like
11:21coiffed
11:22and tightly curled
11:24and it was just
11:24sort of church girl.
11:25And I said,
11:26bitch,
11:26you need to just
11:27bring that stuff out,
11:28you know?
11:28And so I started
11:29like getting her hair
11:30teased up
11:31and kind of stacked
11:32it out.
11:32She's like,
11:32oh yeah,
11:33I like that.
11:34Once we all realized
11:35that, hey,
11:36I live in Tampa.
11:36Oh, you live in Tampa?
11:37Yeah, I live in Clua.
11:38I live in Largo.
11:39You know,
11:39we all kind of
11:40lived in this area,
11:41so we thought,
11:41hey, let's all get together,
11:43you know?
11:43It was nice
11:44because when we did
11:45get a few days off,
11:46I could call on her
11:47and she could call on me
11:48and we could either
11:48go shopping
11:49or we could hit the beach.
11:51And it was just great
11:52because at least
11:53you had somebody
11:54to do something with.
11:55Hulk would have
11:56big parties over there
11:57and invite everybody,
11:58you know,
11:58and Randy and Liz
11:59would go to it.
12:00And it seems like
12:01that's when she was
12:01the most happiest
12:02when she could be
12:03out around the people
12:04and kind of be herself.
12:05You know,
12:05we'd be barbecuing
12:06in the backyard
12:07the weekend before.
12:08Terry would always
12:09like kind of lay it out
12:10and here's how
12:10I want to run it
12:11and then Randy
12:11would throw in some ideas,
12:13you know,
12:13and Liz would always
12:14just go along
12:14with whatever,
12:15talking about the angle.
12:17The hotter the heel
12:18and people after a while
12:20will begin to respect you.
12:22And Randy was so good,
12:24he was hard to boo.
12:26The audience liked him
12:26and it was hard to ignore.
12:28Randy Savage
12:28was really catching on
12:29as a baby face
12:31and people had grown
12:33to really love
12:36the Macho Man.
12:37By the end of 1987,
12:39the fans' love
12:40for Randy Savage
12:40inspires a revelation
12:42in Vince McMahon,
12:43a partnership
12:44with the company's
12:44top hero
12:45to create a team
12:46unlike anything
12:47pro wrestling
12:48has ever seen.
12:49The two biggest names
12:50in the wrestling business
12:51at that time,
12:52in a combined forces,
12:53you know,
12:53the madness
12:54in Hulkamania
12:55combining forces,
12:56brother.
12:57With the madness
12:57and the mania,
12:59mega powers, yeah!
13:00I mean,
13:00who's going to match up
13:01against them?
13:02By the summer of 1988,
13:04Hogan and Savage
13:04with Elizabeth
13:05as their manager
13:06appear invincible.
13:07They've destroyed
13:08all challengers
13:09and the only place
13:10left to turn
13:10is on each other.
13:12What we knew
13:12is that we would have
13:13the mega powers explode.
13:14You create the mega powers
13:16for the mega powers
13:17to explode.
13:18Especially
13:18when one
13:20is a paranoid schizophrenic
13:21and the other
13:22is the all-American
13:23dude.
13:25And what is
13:26the easiest
13:27thing
13:28for two men
13:29to argue with?
13:30A woman.
13:32Summer Slam
13:32alien.
13:33Randy Hoist
13:33lives up
13:34on his shoulder
13:35and goes around
13:36and when he does,
13:37there's like
13:37a little slit.
13:38Hulk
13:38puts his hand up
13:40steadier.
13:41Freeze it!
13:42Look at how long
13:43his hand is on
13:44Elizabeth.
13:45Uh-huh.
13:46Nobody touches
13:48Elizabeth.
13:49Uh-uh.
13:50There was Hulk.
13:50Say your prayers.
13:51Take your vitamins.
13:52You know,
13:53here's the American flag
13:54and here's Randy
13:55going,
13:56you know,
13:56I don't think
13:57you're as truthful
13:57as everybody
13:58thinks you really are.
13:59They don't realize
14:00that underneath
14:01he's been boiling.
14:03You got lust
14:04in your eyes
14:05and in your black heart
14:07for Elizabeth!
14:09Randy is
14:10the jealous,
14:11raving lunatic
14:11and Hulk is
14:12the best friend
14:14who's trying to
14:14screw his best friend's girl.
14:16Picked her up
14:17and put Elizabeth
14:18where she has
14:19never been before
14:20on top
14:21of another man's shoulder!
14:23It's easy for him
14:24to blow it out of proportion
14:25because you can tell
14:26the jealousy side of it.
14:28He's blinded by love
14:29and he's blinded by rage.
14:31He's paranoid.
14:33He's got the championship.
14:34He's got the whole world
14:35on his back.
14:36So, of course,
14:36everybody's trying
14:37to knock him off.
14:38Even his best friend.
14:39His best friend's not only
14:40trying to knock him off,
14:41he's trying to take my girl.
14:42They were really playing off
14:43of Randy's paranoia
14:44and it was real.
14:45So, that's what made
14:45it really work.
14:47The Twin Towers,
14:48Big Boss Man
14:48and Akeem
14:49against Randy and Hulk,
14:51the mega powers.
14:52But there was a point
14:53in the match
14:54where Randy took a bump out
14:55and ended up
14:56taking Liz out.
14:58Hulk sees that she's hurt,
15:01carries her back
15:02to get her help.
15:04You're hovering over,
15:05over the bed.
15:06How dare you?
15:07I'm out there
15:08fighting for my life.
15:10But you're more concerned
15:12about her.
15:12It all makes sense now.
15:14When you take a look
15:15at the madness's eyes,
15:17all you're gonna see
15:19is complete
15:21and utter
15:22ring.
15:26Match made.
15:28What corner is Elizabeth
15:29gonna be in?
15:31Well, a lot of people
15:32wondered,
15:32did Randy really control
15:33her in and out
15:34of the ring?
15:35Absolutely.
15:36Randy,
15:38very protective of my God.
15:40You have no idea
15:41when he would, um,
15:43get visibly upset
15:44with anybody.
15:46Tried to talk to her,
15:48carry on a conversation
15:49with her.
15:50He just did not like it.
15:52When they would be
15:52getting ready
15:53for an event,
15:55we didn't want
15:56any malfunctions
15:57with the boardrobes,
15:58so he would literally
15:59take the tape
16:00and, like,
16:02wrap it all around
16:03her whole body.
16:04And then the other
16:05big thing was,
16:06because she was always
16:07in a short dress,
16:07was getting into the ring
16:09and entering the ring
16:10over the rope.
16:11And was she gonna go
16:12over the second rope?
16:13Did she go under it?
16:14This was all a big,
16:15huge thing for Randy
16:16because this was his wife.
16:17He loved and respected her.
16:18And he didn't want
16:19anybody to be
16:20making fun of her.
16:21He was definitely
16:22in charge of that
16:23relationship,
16:23and she was just
16:25the tagalongs.
16:26And I think that
16:27that started to grow
16:28on her.
16:29I think that started
16:30to just unnerve her.
16:31That may have been
16:32where a lot of the
16:33issues started.
16:35In WrestleMania V,
16:36are you gonna be
16:37a macho man?
16:38Randy Savage's corner.
16:40When you take
16:40real-life situations
16:42and you put it
16:43in front of the camera,
16:45it's great because
16:46it's usually very relatable.
16:48No!
16:49No!
16:50However,
16:51when you take
16:52your real-life feelings
16:53and you put them
16:54on camera,
16:55and you make it
16:56a part of a storyline
16:58because they don't
16:58know you.
17:00They don't know
17:01what you guys do
17:02when the door's
17:03shut at night.
17:04They have no clue.
17:06But they know
17:07you're really married
17:08and they know
17:08what you said on TV,
17:10you sorry son of a bitch.
17:12Life imitating art,
17:13and sometimes art
17:15imitates life.
17:18And then you get
17:18really fucked up.
17:19being on the road
17:2524-7 with your spouse,
17:27it's not an easy task.
17:30You know,
17:30Elizabeth,
17:30as his wife,
17:32had those same duties
17:34as I did.
17:35I did travel with
17:36Randy and Liz a lot,
17:37and their relationship
17:39was that of
17:40a married couple
17:42on the road.
17:42They didn't go out
17:43and party,
17:44went back to the room,
17:45went to bed,
17:45and they had their privacy.
17:47You'd get back
17:48to the room,
17:49and she would have
17:49to scrub the blood
17:50off the boots
17:51like I did to have
17:52to Terry's
17:53from their wrestling match.
17:54You know,
17:55you'd put the wrestling boots
17:56in the bathtub of the hotel
17:57and wash them off,
17:58get all the blood off
17:59because they had to
18:00wear them the next night.
18:01And I'm sure he probably
18:02wanted to get laid,
18:03and I'm sure she probably
18:04didn't, you know,
18:05and maybe she did
18:06and he didn't.
18:07Then her, unlike me,
18:09she has to think
18:10about herself.
18:11What the hell dress
18:12is she gonna wear?
18:13I had my wife involved
18:14for a while, man,
18:15and it's brutal, man,
18:15having your wife
18:16around the guys.
18:17They did practical jokes
18:18that were cruel.
18:20I'm telling you,
18:20they used people's
18:22suitcases as toilets.
18:24There were no boundaries.
18:26That was the problem.
18:26I mean, you know,
18:27cutting somebody's hair off
18:28while they're passed out.
18:30I mean, I wouldn't want
18:30my wife around that shit.
18:32The pattern seemed
18:33to be that Randy wanted
18:34to keep Elizabeth
18:35away from the boys
18:37as much as possible.
18:39And, you know,
18:39just, I don't blame him,
18:41really.
18:42Randy being so intense
18:43and being so watchful
18:45over her,
18:45she couldn't have freedom.
18:48And I think you can't
18:49smother somebody
18:50all the time like that.
18:51Elizabeth wanted
18:52to leave the road
18:53and she wanted Randy
18:55to quit.
18:56Randy wasn't done yet.
18:57Randy was still enjoying it.
18:59I knew she needed
19:00to have more socialization
19:01and more friends
19:03and she missed having
19:04the normal life.
19:05But Liz apparently
19:07was looking for something
19:08more than that
19:09than I realized at the time.
19:11By 1990,
19:12an exhausted Elizabeth
19:13asked for some time
19:14off the road
19:15and the WWF
19:16sees this as an opportunity
19:17to reinvent the macho man
19:19into a new kind of villain.
19:21We did Randy as the heel.
19:23We made Randy
19:23the macho king
19:24and thought that
19:26the sensational Sherry
19:27to be his manager,
19:28another female
19:29and make the queen.
19:31Sherry was a women's wrestler
19:32and the guys loved
19:33working with Sherry
19:34because she could take it.
19:35She was tough as nails.
19:37Queen Sherry
19:38adds a whole new dimension
19:39to the macho man's character
19:40but the fans demand
19:41to see wrestling
19:42First Lady
19:43back in her rightful place.
19:45Every day
19:46that Randy spent with Sherry
19:48everybody said
19:49let's bring Elizabeth.
19:49Where's Elizabeth?
19:50Where's Elizabeth?
19:51I mean the people
19:52hungered for Elizabeth.
19:54Going into Wrestlemania
19:55Randy was looking
19:56to take the summer off.
19:57He and Liz
19:58were looking to
19:59spend time together
20:00as husband and wife
20:01not being on the road
20:03all the time.
20:04So the idea was
20:06Wrestlemania 7
20:06have a career match
20:08with the Ultimate Warrior.
20:10If the Warrior lost
20:11he was gone
20:11if Randy lost
20:12he was gone.
20:13We had shown
20:14earlier in the night
20:15that in attendance
20:17that night
20:17was Elizabeth
20:18in the crowd
20:19sitting like
20:20in the fourth row.
20:21And when Sherry
20:22started to kick Randy
20:24and go after Randy
20:25Liz made her way
20:26to the ring
20:26and pulled Sherry off
20:28and Liz was there
20:29fighting for a man
20:30and people are
20:32slowly applauding
20:34and you see grown men
20:35with tears in their eyes.
20:38That's emotional.
20:39That's good stuff.
20:40We got them.
20:42Because it was
20:43they felt it
20:44and people could feel
20:45that too
20:45getting back together
20:47getting back to the one
20:48you really love.
20:49Elizabeth
20:50will you marry me?
20:56Despite being married
20:57in real life
20:57for seven years
20:58which was kept secret
20:59from fans
21:00Randy and Elizabeth's
21:01characters finally tied
21:02the knot on live television
21:04on August the 26th 1991.
21:06Oh yeah!
21:10And they were excited.
21:11I mean they were like
21:12two kids
21:13planning for their wedding.
21:15I think it was just
21:16the first time
21:16you ever saw
21:17the macho man break down
21:18and have a human emotion
21:19other than anger.
21:20You saw him actually happy
21:22and you saw him
21:23emotionally care
21:24for someone outwardly
21:26which you had never
21:26seen before.
21:28Liz and Randy
21:29are having this
21:30beautiful wedding ceremony.
21:33Now cue the devil.
21:36and did the reception
21:38and bullshit
21:39putting the snake
21:41in the box
21:42and all that crap
21:43and they got it started
21:44and they kicked it off.
21:4514, 15 foot
21:46king cobra.
21:48Look at that son of a bitch.
21:50A beautiful,
21:50beautiful animal.
21:53Randy came to me
21:54and he said
21:55so tonight I hear
21:57we're gonna do
21:58something a little different.
22:00I'm like yeah
22:01man the snake's biting
22:02and he's like
22:03yeah
22:04so uh
22:05has the snake
22:06been fixed?
22:09Yeah
22:09it's the cobra
22:12you dumb shit.
22:13Of course it's been fixed.
22:15Maybe it has
22:16and maybe it hasn't.
22:18How about the snake
22:19biting you first?
22:21What?
22:21You man
22:22I'm like
22:23oh
22:23oh you don't want it
22:24to bite you
22:25cause if you won't
22:26let the snake bite you
22:27that tells me
22:28it hasn't been fixed.
22:30I used to dip
22:31I'm serious man
22:32so
22:32I went and got the snake
22:34rolled up my pants leg
22:35and let it bite me
22:36and he's like
22:38don't move
22:39don't take no pills
22:40don't take no antidote
22:41don't take no theorems
22:43no
22:43nothing brother
22:45for like 20 minutes man
22:48he's like
22:48let me get you
22:49let you feel
22:51I'm a bit pissed off
22:52right now
22:53to be honest with you
22:54so it was time
22:55for that snake
22:55to bite him
22:56I got the snake out
22:57turned my back to him
22:58and I paintbrushed
23:00the shit out of that snake
23:01pissed it off
23:03and then whenever
23:04I turned around
23:05that snake was just
23:06you know
23:07he was great ready
23:08and I got in close
23:10to Randy
23:11and he latched on
23:12and would not let go
23:14I mean
23:15the time that you've seen
23:17it on television
23:18was nothing to the real time
23:19it went on forever
23:21Vince wound up
23:22sending Elizabeth down
23:24get the snake off of it
23:25get it off of it
23:27Vince said now
23:27I'm like I'm trying
23:29and I'm pulling on the snake
23:31and it wouldn't let go
23:32it's just chewing on it
23:34man it's like anything else
23:35the first time it's ever been done
23:36it shocks people man
23:37the visual
23:38you know
23:39bottom line is
23:40nobody ever felt sorry for Randy
23:42they felt sorry for her
23:44it's not a good situation
23:46like with me
23:47whenever I slapped Elizabeth
23:48and then they tried to go home
23:51to see her family
23:54grandpa meets him on the porch
23:56and says
23:56you're not coming in this house boy
23:58he promised us
23:59you'd always protect our little girl
24:01the only way he could gain
24:03access back into their home
24:05was basically kicking my ass
24:07and getting even
24:09so it's true
24:10you know these are Tennessee folks bro
24:12you know
24:13wrestling's real
24:15people are fake
24:16what was the state of their relationship
24:18at the time
24:19when they were getting married
24:19I would say tumultuous
24:21on the verge of breaking up
24:23so Terry had been cast in a movie
24:28called Mr. Nanny
24:29it required us to be down in Miami
24:30for about eight weeks
24:31so Liz called and goes
24:33when are you going to be back home
24:35and I said I'm going back
24:36the next week
24:37she's like oh
24:38she's like Randy
24:39can I please go
24:40I heard her talking to him
24:41on the back of the phone
24:42she's like can I please go
24:43I want to go help Linda
24:44with the kids
24:45I just want to go see them
24:46and hang out with Nick
24:47and Brooke in the pool
24:48and stuff
24:48and he's like
24:49well only if you're going to be
24:51babysitting
24:51and you're going to be with Linda
24:52she flew down with us
24:54it was so much fun
24:55she helped me unload the kids
24:56we got the toys
24:57we were hanging out
24:58we're all going to go out
24:59to dinner you know
24:59I said so
25:00I'll just go get ready
25:01do whatever
25:02come back from your workout
25:03or whatever
25:03at 7.30
25:04I'm thinking like
25:05aren't we going to do
25:06our makeup together
25:07and our hair together
25:08which is what we always did
25:09so I'm kind of like
25:09knocking on her door
25:10and I see the light is on
25:12you can see under the door
25:14but she's not answering
25:16where's Liz?
25:17in 1992
25:23leaving her husband
25:24Randy Savage behind
25:26Elizabeth travels alone
25:27to Miami
25:28to stay with
25:29Hulk Hogan
25:29and his wife Linda
25:30Terry had to film
25:32the next morning
25:33and the whole next day
25:34goes on
25:35and I see her at the pool
25:35I'm like Liz
25:36where were you?
25:37you know
25:38we were worried about you
25:38and she's like
25:39oh well I met this
25:40other gentleman
25:41that lives in the building
25:42and he has an extra
25:43room here in the building
25:44and he thought
25:45maybe I'd want to take it
25:47the way I heard the story
25:48was that Liz wanted
25:50away from Randy
25:50and so she contacted
25:52Hulk's wife Linda
25:53and went and stayed
25:54with them
25:55now meanwhile
25:57Randy is freaking out
25:58because he doesn't know
25:59where the love of his life is
26:01Randy kept calling my room
26:04wanting to talk to Liz
26:05and I was like
26:06Liz is not here
26:08I didn't say she had
26:09her own room
26:10I just said
26:10she's not here
26:11I think she's with friends
26:12or something like that
26:12and he goes
26:13well where is she
26:14I was like
26:14she's not here
26:15she's not here
26:15Randy was like
26:16I'm gonna fly down
26:17you know
26:18don't tell her
26:18because I don't like this
26:20you know
26:20she's never like
26:21missed my calls
26:22and she should be answering
26:23or she should
26:24at least be calling me back
26:25three hours later
26:26he lands
26:27comes in blazing
26:29in the door
26:30blazing
26:30guns fired
26:31looking for Liz
26:33and I'm sitting there
26:34and he's like
26:34where's Liz
26:35I was like
26:37Randy look
26:38I don't know
26:38he's like
26:40what
26:40you know
26:41where do you think
26:42she is
26:43you know
26:44who was she with last
26:45what did you guys do
26:47I'm gonna go find Liz
26:48and I want you
26:49sitting here in the chair
26:51and if you so much
26:52as leave this chair
26:53and you smarten her up
26:54and tell her that I'm here
26:55looking for her
26:56you're gonna hear about it
26:57I'd never seen Randy
26:58like this before in my life
26:59because I'd never even
27:00seen him argue or fight
27:02seriously
27:03I really hadn't
27:04so him and Terry
27:05went out the door
27:05and I didn't know
27:07what was going on
27:08I just knew
27:08I wasn't leaving the chair
27:09and I guess he found her
27:11Terry came back to the room
27:12and said
27:13I left them on their own
27:14they're sorting it out
27:15so they got in their rental car
27:17and they drove back home
27:18and he basically told Terry
27:19in so many words or less
27:20like Liz is not coming back
27:21to Miami
27:22and there's no more
27:23hanging out
27:24party's over
27:24this is ridiculous
27:25she just went too crazy
27:27you know
27:27I think Randy felt
27:28you know again
27:30life imitating art
27:31that Hulk was
27:33taking Liz's side
27:35well that was the beginning
27:36of the end for them
27:37but beginning of the end
27:38for Randy and Hulk too
27:40because Randy always thought
27:41that Hulk had something
27:42to do with it
27:43and I've been Hulk
27:44for 39 years
27:45Hulk had nothing
27:46to do with that
27:46he was shooting
27:47the dadgum movie
27:48I think when
27:49when you separate
27:51and like she's at home
27:53and he's on the road
27:54that all of a sudden
27:57it's a newfound freedom
27:58and that's a whole
27:58brand new life
27:59on both parts
28:00you know it was
28:02just a normal day
28:03I was just home
28:03with the kids
28:04beautiful day out
28:05and this is probably
28:07like five six weeks
28:08after we wrapped filming
28:10and we left Miami
28:11you know hard line phones
28:13I'm in the kitchen
28:14I'm giving Nick a bottle
28:15or whatever
28:16and it's Liz
28:17I'm like hey Liz
28:18God I miss you
28:19how are you
28:20you know
28:20and it was like
28:22dead silent
28:22on the other end
28:23of the phone
28:24I was like Liz
28:25she's like Linda
28:26I left Randy
28:29I was listening to her
28:34and she was like
28:35sounded like she was
28:36at a gas station
28:36or something
28:37I could hear cars
28:37going by on the freeway
28:38you know
28:39I was like oh my god
28:39she goes I'm done
28:40I left him
28:41and I said oh my god
28:42I said are you home
28:43can I come help you
28:44can I talk to you
28:45I was like I need to
28:46talk some sense
28:46to this girl you know
28:47and she wasn't home
28:49she goes nope
28:49I'm halfway to Miami
28:50I'm going back
28:51I met some people there
28:52and I've got a place to stay
28:54she goes just promise me
28:56don't tell Randy
28:57that I'm on the road
28:59she had a convertible
29:01little red Cadillac
29:02and I just
29:02the mental picture
29:04in my mind
29:04was her
29:05like a country music video
29:07or something
29:07with two suitcases
29:08in the back
29:08and her just driving
29:09her convertible
29:10down to Miami
29:10with the wind
29:11blowing through her hair
29:12probably feeling free
29:14and relieved
29:16the constant submission
29:18that Randy had on her
29:20and it wasn't that
29:21he was trying to do it
29:22out of being mean
29:23or anything
29:23it was just his
29:24protective way
29:25but she had just
29:26had enough
29:27of that suppression
29:28when Randy and Liz
29:30split up
29:31you could tell
29:32there was a change
29:33in the mancho man
29:34you know
29:34he was a little
29:35drawn back
29:36he really wasn't
29:37as intense as he was
29:39when they were together
29:40once she was gone
29:41he really kind of
29:43just went silent
29:45he lost all
29:46he didn't really care
29:48about the business
29:49you know
29:49it was like
29:50the lights were on
29:51but nobody's home
29:52sad
29:53but yet there was
29:54that exterior
29:55that was
29:56okay I gotta move on
29:58I think Randy
29:59was tormented
29:59you know
30:01I mean he had
30:01all the money
30:02all the stuff
30:02and all that
30:03but he always
30:03was never
30:04I don't know
30:06he was always
30:07so wound up
30:07and I'm thinking
30:08Mosh
30:08like you've made it bro
30:09like what's missing
30:11like what is
30:12what's it gonna take
30:13to make you happy
30:13one day
30:15we were sitting
30:17in the car
30:17waiting for Vince
30:19to come down
30:20take him forever
30:21and Vince gets
30:22in the car
30:23shuts the door
30:24and says
30:24gentlemen
30:25Randy Savage
30:26is now the proud
30:27property of world
30:28championship wrestling
30:29and
30:31we're like
30:33what happened
30:36WCW
30:42was
30:43owned by Ted Turner
30:44competition
30:45to the WWF
30:47Ted Turner
30:48had started
30:48to try and lure
30:50talent
30:50from the WWF
30:52over to
30:53WCW
30:54Hulk Hogan
30:55was the first talent
30:56that made the big job
30:58the macho man
30:59Randy Savage
30:59he's interested
31:00in coming over
31:01because in WWE
31:02Randy had been
31:03put out to pasture
31:04by Vince McMahon
31:05Vince McMahon
31:07basically said
31:07Randy you're too old
31:08your gimmick's over
31:10your shtick is done
31:11you're gonna be
31:11a color commentator
31:12and that hurt Randy
31:14I didn't want to
31:15reinvent a wheel
31:16that I believed
31:17already worked
31:18and by the way
31:18when Randy Savage
31:20came over
31:20what a lighter
31:23for your life
31:23yeah
31:24let me go
31:25with Slim Jim
31:25$750,000 a year
31:28of Slim Jim money
31:28came with him
31:29and Slim Jim
31:31wasn't interested
31:32in changing
31:33Randy Savage
31:34WCW
31:35has given
31:36the macho man
31:36a renewed career
31:37but his protective nature
31:39won't allow him
31:39to leave his one
31:40true love behind
31:41Randy called her up
31:43and said
31:43come on in
31:44you can be a part
31:45of the storyline
31:46make some money
31:46he's divorced
31:47from Elizabeth
31:48at this point
31:48but cares about her
31:50enough that he gets
31:51her a $250,000
31:52a year contract
31:53just to kind of
31:54stand around
31:54and look pretty
31:55she wasn't even
31:56on camera much
31:57but he wanted her
31:58looked after
31:58except this time
32:00she was the villain
32:01and Randy was the baby face
32:02it was perfect
32:03she had changed so much
32:04she wasn't like
32:05the same little
32:06quiet girl
32:07I remember
32:07she was more talkative
32:09so I said
32:09what's happening
32:10I go
32:10were you dating anybody
32:11or
32:12she goes
32:12well I'm kind of like
32:14seeing Lex
32:15and I go
32:16you're like
32:17seeing Lex
32:18I go
32:18Lex is married
32:19and she goes
32:20I know
32:21that's the problem
32:23I go
32:24Liz
32:24that's not good
32:26Lex Luger
32:28was oftentimes
32:29considered
32:30you know
32:30the second coming
32:31of Hulk Hogan
32:32Lex had a
32:33million dollar body
32:34and he had
32:36a great look
32:37Lex Luger
32:38is one of the top
32:40names ever
32:40in the professional
32:41wrestling industry
32:42he's easy to hate
32:43because it's like
32:44there's nothing wrong
32:45with him
32:46she was
32:47head over heels
32:49over him
32:50I could tell that
32:51paired together
32:52as part of a wrestling
32:53storyline
32:54Elizabeth and Lex Luger
32:55professional relationship
32:57evolves into a
32:58secret love affair
32:59they were a very happy
33:01couple
33:01they'd go work out
33:02in the gym together
33:03they would spend
33:03a lot of time together
33:04they were being
33:05a little bit sneaky
33:06but adjoining rooms
33:07and stuff
33:08and I guess you can't
33:09help who you're
33:10attracted to
33:11and who you fall
33:11in love with
33:12and I always liked
33:12Lex and I always
33:13liked Liz
33:14and hey if you guys
33:15make each other happy
33:15go for it
33:17so when the ideas
33:18started bouncing around
33:19about blurring the lines
33:22if you will
33:23between scripted
33:24and reality
33:24with regard to
33:25Elizabeth's
33:26relationship with Randy
33:27and their marriage
33:28and their divorce
33:29Randy she's your ex-wife
33:31at least you owe her
33:33this much man
33:34I was really shocked
33:36at first that Randy
33:37would entertain
33:38some of those ideas
33:39I'm really wrong
33:40and I need you
33:41and I don't think
33:44I can reach you
33:44he was still very
33:46protective of Elizabeth
33:47but in a much
33:48different way
33:49he watched Lex
33:50like a hawk
33:51it wasn't just that
33:52they were in a relationship
33:53Lex was married
33:54and had kids
33:56everybody knows
33:56that that's going
33:57to end badly
33:58one way or the other
33:59where are you living
34:00are you having an apartment
34:01or whatever
34:01she's like no
34:02he's got another place
34:04he's keeping me in
34:05but the weird thing
34:06is that it's in the same
34:07complex of where
34:08he and his wife live
34:08I go oh
34:09I said this is not good
34:12it was pretty apparent
34:13also that
34:14they were both
34:15they were pilled up
34:19they were just
34:21spending too much time
34:23doing too many drugs
34:24I've never witnessed
34:26her doing any kind
34:27of drugs or pills
34:28and in fact
34:29when we'd go out
34:29and drink
34:30she'd have two glasses
34:32of wine
34:32and she'd be already
34:33like feeling it
34:34and I'm like
34:35oh it's time to go home
34:36you know
34:36thing is
34:37Liz doesn't weigh
34:38270 like me
34:39and Lex
34:40Liz weighs about
34:4185 pounds
34:42so she's taking
34:44the same amount
34:45of pills
34:46that a 300 pounder's
34:47taking
34:47you know
34:48they had some kind
34:49of a fight
34:49and she fell
34:51down the stairs
34:52and she ended up
34:53with two black eyes
34:54April of 2003
34:56squad cars respond
34:57to a domestic disturbance
34:58at the home
34:59of Lex Luger
34:59upon their arrival
35:01the police notice
35:02Elizabeth has bruised eyes
35:03at first she denies
35:04the injuries are
35:05from Luger
35:05but she eventually
35:06admits to the authorities
35:07that he did hit her
35:08Luger was charged
35:09with misdemeanor
35:10counter-battery
35:11and released on bail
35:12I thought
35:13falling down the stairs
35:15gave her two black eyes
35:17hmm
35:17talk about
35:19the idea of getting
35:20Lex Luger
35:21on your podcast
35:22and talk about
35:23that process
35:23and what you wanted
35:24to talk to him about
35:25when Nick
35:26my producer
35:28and co-host
35:29suggested that
35:29you know
35:29that we bring
35:30Lex on
35:31you know
35:31I was
35:32I had mixed emotions
35:33because I
35:34I still
35:36honestly Lex
35:38I'm sorry
35:38but I still had
35:39some resentment
35:40even
35:41during the time
35:42we were
35:43making the call
35:44but Lex rose
35:45to the occasion
35:46he was
35:47he was brutally honest
35:48I'll never forget
35:51um
35:52that the
35:54it was actually
35:55early morning hours
35:56we were having
35:58just an evening
35:59watching movies together
36:00and kicking back
36:01and having
36:01uh
36:02sipping on some vodka
36:03and popping pills
36:05and
36:05literally
36:07um
36:08before the 911 call
36:09I realized
36:11she had stopped
36:11breathing
36:12okay
36:13what I want you
36:13to do
36:14I want you
36:14to go over
36:15and see if she's
36:16breathing
36:16at least
36:17help
36:18please send
36:19somebody here
36:19so who knows
36:20what they're doing
36:21I understand that
36:22sir
36:22I have somebody
36:23on the way
36:24but if she's
36:25not breathing
36:26you need to
36:27help her breathe
36:28you need to
36:29find out whether
36:30or not she's
36:30breathing
36:31go over to her
36:32sir
36:34oh my god
36:35lay down
36:36and check to see
36:37if she's breathing
36:38look at her chest
36:39see if it's rising
36:40doesn't look like it is
36:42I'm scared of death
36:43Terry called me
36:45and he just said
36:45you know
36:47really really bad news
36:48Liz is dead
36:49and like
36:51when he said that
36:52I just felt like
36:54somebody poured
36:54a bucket of ice
36:55on me
36:55oh I was at home
36:57in Atlanta
36:58heard it on the
36:59morning news
37:01I was pissed
37:04I was pissed
37:06because I saw
37:07Lex
37:09manipulating
37:12and exploiting
37:13a vulnerable person
37:14and using
37:16prescription drugs
37:17to do it
37:18they told me
37:19that Elizabeth
37:19had just passed
37:20I thought she was
37:21going to make it
37:22and she was going
37:22to go to the hospital
37:23and they were going
37:23to read that
37:24she didn't make it
37:24and then
37:25I was arrested
37:26on I think
37:2717 felony counts
37:29and all the drugs
37:30they found in my house
37:31I thought I had
37:32the drugs under control
37:33but ended up
37:34getting control
37:35of Elizabeth
37:36and I
37:38the tragedy of that
37:39to witness that
37:41first hand
37:42it was a very dark
37:43time without a doubt
37:44I knew he was
37:46telling the truth
37:46I knew he was
37:47being honest
37:48and accepting
37:49responsibility
37:50I look at him
37:51so differently now
37:52I respect him
37:56which I never thought
37:57I'd hear myself say
37:58I want to ask you
38:00about Miss Elizabeth
38:01her loss
38:02and everything
38:03earlier in your career
38:05you guys
38:06helped each other
38:07out in your careers
38:08yeah we were
38:09actually married
38:10and we got a divorce
38:12which happens
38:13in life sometimes
38:14we had separation
38:15we had closure
38:16but I really feel
38:17real bad
38:18for her and her family
38:19and it was a situation
38:21where we hadn't
38:22seen each other
38:22in about
38:23maybe 5-6 years
38:24but we had closure
38:25and we said hello
38:26and everything
38:27was all good
38:27but I feel bad
38:29for her family
38:29Elizabeth tragically
38:31passed away
38:31at the age of 42
38:32but grieving fans
38:34would have no idea
38:35that this epic saga
38:36was approaching
38:37its final chapter
38:38this is my brother
38:46getting married
38:47for the second time
38:48to the lovely
38:49Lynn Payne Poffel
38:50in 2010
38:52seven years
38:52after Elizabeth's death
38:54Randy Savage
38:55finds love
38:55once again
38:56he you know
38:58weathered the storm
38:58through his divorce
38:59and he was finally
39:00kind of on his feet
39:02he was remarried
39:03and
39:03and
39:03just starting
39:05to kind of
39:06really enjoy his life
39:07when Randy retired
39:09from wrestling
39:09he was able
39:10to devote
39:11a lot of his time
39:12to the Special Olympics
39:13that was his passion
39:15and he
39:16enjoyed his
39:17final years
39:18as a sedentary person
39:20I was supposed
39:21to go to San Jose
39:22California
39:23American Airlines
39:24stopped in Dallas
39:25I turned on my phone
39:26and there was a message
39:27on there
39:28and it said
39:28this is Largo Medical
39:30your brother
39:31and
39:32his wife
39:33were in a
39:34automobile accident
39:36and
39:37she's banged up
39:39and your brother's
39:39in critical condition
39:40but the way
39:41they said it
39:41I knew
39:42I got a phone call
39:43early that morning
39:44from Lanny Poffel
39:44Jimmy
39:45yeah Lanny
39:46I hadn't had time
39:47to call yet
39:47because it's early
39:48he goes
39:48no listen
39:49I'm coming back home
39:49why
39:50and I could tell
39:51his voice was really shaky
39:52he goes
39:52what
39:52he goes
39:53I just got a phone call
39:54he said
39:55my brother just got killed
39:56we want to share
39:57some breaking news
39:58with you now
39:58regarding Randy
39:59Macho Man Savage
40:01you may know him
40:02well
40:02he is a pro wrestler
40:04we have just confirmed
40:05that Randy
40:06Macho Man Savage
40:07has died
40:08coming from the
40:09Florida Highway Patrol
40:10there was a car accident
40:11I was literally
40:12on my way to the airport
40:13to leave Clearwater
40:15when I got the phone call
40:16from Hulk
40:17or Terry
40:18he crashed into a tree
40:20and died
40:20as a result
40:22of a heart attack
40:23it's hard to believe
40:24even now
40:25sitting here
40:25doing this interview
40:26it's hard to believe
40:27it's true
40:27because he was so full of life
40:29he was so full of energy
40:31brother
40:31it's hard to imagine
40:32that
40:32he's not here
40:33really
40:34we're going to the site
40:38where
40:39my brother lost control
40:40and you're gonna see the tree
40:42they've still got a few flowers
40:43although they've
40:44taken some of them
40:45some of them down
40:46it's been seven years
40:48you know
40:48I judge people
40:59by the way
41:00for example
41:02Randy treated my kids
41:03oh and that
41:04that was it for me
41:05if I start thinking
41:06about that too much
41:07I'll cry
41:07he went out of his way
41:10to be really
41:11really good to kids
41:12and that's how
41:13I judge people
41:14he loved Brooke
41:16and he loved kids
41:17I'm sure he probably
41:18would have
41:19said yes
41:20at any time
41:21and loved to have kids
41:22with Liz
41:22I think it's a shame
41:23Liz isn't in the Hall of Fame
41:24I think that she was
41:26called the first lady
41:27of wrestling
41:28for a reason
41:28she was the first
41:30significant female star
41:33who never wrestled
41:35because he had her
41:36at his side
41:37made him even more special
41:39because she was so special
41:40she was the first female
41:43that was depicted
41:44in a
41:45in a powerful role
41:47she was beautiful
41:48quiet
41:49but she was class
41:51Elizabeth was class
41:52maybe a boy
41:53named Timmy

42:25Randy and Elizabeth
42:27were greater than the sum
42:28of their parts
42:29they were undoubtedly key
42:31to each other's legacy
42:32fans have never before
42:33experienced a more emotional
42:35and relatable storyline
42:36on the complexity of love
42:38together they transcended television
42:40and well
42:42wrestling too
42:43even after the divorce
42:45they still had a tremendous
42:46amount of love
42:47and respect for each other
42:48they were true
42:49true celebrities
42:51and icons
42:51there's not one person
42:52on the whole planet earth
42:53that doesn't know
42:54who they were
42:54from a wrestling point
42:55you just want to
42:56wrestle with each other
42:57you know
42:58while both passed too soon
43:00they left their legions
43:01of fans with an epic
43:02love story
43:03that will last long
43:04after they're gone
43:05to me Randy Savage
43:07is on the Mount Rushmore
43:09of wrestling
43:09could perform
43:11could do an interview
43:12had the right look
43:13he was the macho man
43:14he was an innovator
43:16he was a creator
43:17he made the business better
43:21in my opinion
43:21I would call Randy Savage
43:23one of the all time greats
43:24without a doubt
43:25and the real human being
43:27Randy Poffo
43:28was really a very good man
43:30and a loving man
43:32there was a lot of art
43:33imitating life
43:34you know sometimes
43:35in the world
43:35what really happens
43:36is not really planned
43:38after you roll with it
43:39then all of a sudden
43:40you really turn into
43:41that character
43:41or turn into that dilemma
43:42that takes place
43:43I think people
43:45will always want to
43:46think of her
43:47as Miss Elizabeth Ford
43:48and Miss Randy
43:49you don't want to
43:50remember her being
43:51with somebody else
43:52that just doesn't seem right
43:54I mean that's what
43:55we were fed
43:56you know
43:56that's what we believed
43:57I think people
44:08it's what we thought
44:10is it's what it's all
44:11that just doesn't seem right
