Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) speaks to reporters after the House Oversight Committee's closed-door meeting with victims of Jeffrey Epstein.
Transcript
00:00Well, I learned that there's a lot of brave women on behalf of thousands of potential victims who are sharing their stories and that whatever we do, we have to remember these victims and that we obviously do justice by them at the same time that we hold people accountable and that we prevent this from ever happening.
00:30They want full transparency and accountability wherever it leads, and I think that it's extremely important that we get everything in those files, but also that we depose additional people whom they named.
00:51There are a variety of people that they named in addition to the ones that we've heard about in the past, and so we need to depose those people.
01:00We need to follow the money because there's numerous transactions adding up to hundreds of millions of dollars or billions of dollars according to some of the witnesses.
01:09And then, of course, we need to see what's in the documents before we interview anyone because we need to corroborate, in my opinion, anything that is claimed and we're able to cross-examine witnesses thoroughly.
01:21That was not raised in this meeting.
01:27Congressman, did you help us understand what kind of the conversation was like in there?
01:32Was it emotional? Was it tense? What was it meaning?
01:35It was intense. It was emotional. It was candid. It was the type of conversation that probably can't happen in a hearing setting because the answers were very extended.
01:49But it was extremely illuminating, and I'm really glad that I participated, and it's one of those things where I think the victims marshaled a lot of bravery and courage to come before us to tell their stories.
02:08Thank you. Thank you, everybody.
