00:00Well, the holiday weekend is upon us, and some of us will see some showers, but warm temperatures for all.
00:05Enjoy it. We've got some very cool air coming next week, the coolest yet.
00:19So, seasonable temperatures today, even slightly above normal, upper 70s to even some low 80s in western Minnesota today.
00:26So, that normal high is about 78 in the Twin Cities. We're going to be right near that.
00:29If not slightly above, right through the holiday weekend.
00:32We do have this developing upper level low we've talked about yesterday.
00:35It's starting to spin here in western South Dakota.
00:38That'll be the focus for some showers for the second half of the weekend here in western Minnesota.
00:42But at the same time, we're watching a couple of other features, too.
00:45So, here's that swirl of energy, that upper level low.
00:47It's cool air loft that generates that instability.
00:50Areas of showers, it'll breeze through western Minnesota times.
00:53And then that upper level low that'll bring the real cool stuff next week.
00:56But at the surface, we're looking at that surface boundary.
00:59This is what's left of that backdoor cool front that came through on Wednesday.
01:04Very subtle features.
01:06We've got winds coming out of the east on this side, out of the south on this side.
01:10And you get convergence, where the air comes together at the surface.
01:13The only way up, or the only direction, is upward.
01:16So, given daytime heating, that helps to generate some showers and thunderstorms.
01:20We can measure that convergence, these red areas are where those surface winds are converging.
01:24And we do have enough moisture where it's conditionally unstable, we call it.
01:28So, you get that daytime heating that produces some of these pop-up showers and thunderstorms.
01:32And we are going to be occasionally sticky at times across southern and western Minnesota,
01:36with dew points in the low to mid-60s out there.
01:38So, by the evening hours, probably see more of those showers and thunderstorms fire up along that surface boundary.
01:43And then tomorrow, similar scenario too, though the front starts to wash out further to the south and west.
01:49So, I think those showers tomorrow will be a little bit more random than near that boundary,
01:53as that gets going and kind of converges with that surface low.
01:57So, late Sunday, we'll see some showers in southwestern Minnesota.
02:00And then on Labor Day itself, pop-up showers and thunderstorms, mostly in the western half of the state.
02:05And more clouds in the western half of the state too, so that means some cooler temperatures there too.
02:10And then as we head into Monday night, Tuesday, and into Wednesday, we are going to see more widespread scattered showers move in
02:15with that upper-level low coming from the north that will bring that much cooler air for Wednesday and Thursday.
02:21The coolest readings we've seen yet, in fact.
02:23So, near or above normal through the weekend, but watch this pile of cold air moving just west of Hudson Base,
02:30diving straight south into Minnesota by Wednesday and Thursday.
02:34It's going to be pretty cool around here.
02:35We're talking about highs just in the low 60s in southern Minnesota, 50s to the north.
02:40And that's going to set us up for a cold Wednesday night.
02:43If skies clear out, and it looks like it may, enough, widespread 30s, probably widespread frost in northern Minnesota.
02:50And our first 40s of the season, officially in the Twin Cities, we haven't seen that yet in the urban heat island core since May.
02:57So, it's going to be pretty cool around here.
02:58Another fall preview, but you know it doesn't last long in September.
03:01Warm air building back in here as we head into next weekend already.
03:05We could be seeing 80s again by next Sunday.
03:07So, a temporary dip, another fall reminder, and then temperatures will warm up again.
03:13So, we're entering that time of year.
03:15The battle between summer and winter is already starting.
03:1978 today.
03:20Spotty showers, especially in the afternoon and evening hours, and near that boundary, wherever those set up.
03:26And then tomorrow, more isolated showers, upper 70s.
03:29But brighter, warmer Sunday, Monday, closer to 80 degrees.
03:32And then Tuesday, that day of transition, we'll see scattered showers, and then much cooler behind that Wednesday, Thursday.
03:39Mid-60s for highs, maybe just low 60s.
03:4248 Thursday morning.
03:43That would be the coolest morning since May 25th, when we were 46 degrees.
03:48So, yeah, it's going to be pretty cool.
03:50But, as I mentioned, things warming back up here by next weekend.
