00:00It's been a busy transfer deadline day and a busy summer as a whole across Scottish football.
00:05I'm Martin Simpson, sports header at the Edinburgh Evening News in Glasgow World,
00:08joined by Ben Banks and Lewis Anderson.
00:11And on this video, we are going to rank who we think is the single best signing
00:15at all 12 Scottish Premiership clubs from the summer window.
00:19So let's go through this alphabetically, guys.
00:22Start with Aberdeen.
00:25Obviously, in the league, it's not been a great start to the season
00:28and a few of their sign-ins already look like they're not really great pieces of business.
00:35There's a few that we've not seen a lot from.
00:39And then there's a few interesting ones like signing Mitchell Frame from Celtic,
00:42a young defender with a lot of promise.
00:44We'll have to see where they go.
00:45But for me, I don't know.
00:47I think even though we've not seen him kick a ball yet,
00:50the pedigree that Jesper Carlsen has in so many games at such a high level
00:55for a team like he's at Alkmaar, 15 caps for the Swedish national team,
01:00coming from Bologna in the Serie A,
01:03I just, you feel like that is a player well above the station
01:08that Aberdeen could have signed.
01:10And even though we haven't seen him yet,
01:13I maybe think that could potentially be Aberdeen's best signing of the window.
01:18Remains to be seen.
01:19But that would be my pick.
01:20Would anyone offer anything different to that?
01:23If you'd asked me at the start of this summer,
01:26I was really excited by Niklas Milanovic.
01:29Again, it goes back to really good pedigree,
01:33full Australian international.
01:34I'd watched kind of clips on him on YouTube.
01:37It looks really exciting,
01:39but kind of yet to really see that full potential.
01:42I think getting Kevin Nisbet back,
01:44Martin is a terrific business.
01:46It sounds like they managed to get,
01:49obviously he's in on a three-year deal,
01:50but it sounds like they managed to get him for a much smaller fee
01:54than kind of had been rumoured.
01:57It was only around ÂŁ300,000 mark,
02:01which I think is brilliant business.
02:04Aberdeen clearly lacking goals at this moment in time.
02:07I'm not convinced at all by the signing of Cine Yenge,
02:10he looked at his goals tally previously.
02:13I'm not too sure why they brought him in.
02:16But I think getting Nisbet back on a permanent deal
02:18is another great bit of business.
02:23Moving on to Celtic,
02:25the tragic deadline day for their supporters, Ben.
02:29And in terms of the business they've brought in,
02:31they seem to have recruited kind of future prospects
02:34and squad players more than anything.
02:35But they did get in Benjamin Negrin,
02:39who looks a handy player.
02:41But unless you want to disagree,
02:42I think it's probably quite obvious
02:44that Kieran Tierney would be their best signing this summer.
02:47I think it is on paper,
02:49but fans are beginning to go,
02:51why is he not playing 90 minutes?
02:53Why is it every time the clock hits 60 to 75 minutes
02:56that he's starting to slow down
02:58and he's starting to come off?
03:00There is very clearly still fitness issues there.
03:02Whether it's the player himself,
03:05whether it's the medical staff,
03:06they clearly do not think he's going to play 90 minutes.
03:09And Brendan says they will get to a point where he can.
03:13But I think he is obviously
03:15the most headline-catching name they've signed.
03:18But if I'm going to be a bit cuter about the full thing,
03:21I think the most important signing of the window
03:23would end up being the left-back
03:25they've brought in behind them,
03:26Saracci,
03:27purely because Tierney is going to get injured
03:30at some point this season.
03:31And that's, I mean,
03:33you don't want to say that,
03:34but his injury record would suggest that.
03:36And the fact that they're guarding him so much
03:38would suggest that he is having to be managed
03:40within an inch of his life
03:41in terms of minutes.
03:43So he's going to come out the team at some point,
03:45whether that be for a rest or otherwise.
03:48And as you can see,
03:50the void that Greg Taylor left in that team as well.
03:52So I think Saracci could be the most important,
03:55but yeah, I would agree.
03:55I think in terms of headline,
03:57it has to be.
03:58What do I think of Dundee guys?
04:02Some really interesting pieces of business there.
04:06I think we could yet see Ryan Jack arrive,
04:09depending if his contract in Turkey gets terminated.
04:12I would say the jury would probably be a wee bit out on him
04:15coming back to Scottish football.
04:17Jan Dandas, a player that obviously has pedigree at this level.
04:21I like the signing of Dre Wright for them.
04:23I think he's a player that can play in multiple positions.
04:25He's a very good crosser of the ball.
04:28When you're a team who are,
04:30I don't think it would be unfair to say,
04:31based on their start of the season at Dundee,
04:33are going to be fighting at the bottom end of the table.
04:36I feel like he's a very reliable player
04:38for a team in that position.
04:40What do you guys think?
04:41I think when you're saying Dre Wright is your best sign
04:45and that probably sums up the window.
04:47That's a bad note.
04:48He is absolute premiership fair and is fine.
04:54But yeah, Dundee missed out on Kobe Donovan as well
04:57towards the end of the window.
04:58Ryan Jack, you now need a team to basically say
05:01go to Dundee for free.
05:03It's not exactly the most appealing business transaction.
05:06And again, injury record in his 30s now
05:11isn't what he was at Rangers or Aberdeen.
05:13So probably in terms of name, maybe Yandanda.
05:17I think he's a player a lot of teams outside
05:19and maybe the Hartships and Aberdeen bracket
05:21would have taken.
05:22So I think in terms of quality, for me,
05:24it's probably him.
05:25But I think there are some gaps in this Dundee team.
05:27And I think the early season would suggest
05:30that they're probably favourites for the drop.
05:32And I'm going to include Falkirk in the midst of that.
05:34And I think Dundee, from the very small sample size
05:37of games we've had so far in the Premier Sports Cup
05:39and the four-week games,
05:41then I think they have won.
05:43Yeah, I'll spin it on its head
05:45and go as far to say keeping hold of Simon Murray
05:48at 33 years of age is a good bit of business.
05:52Obviously, a terrific season he had last year
05:55in terms of goals return.
05:56And I kind of thought there might have been
05:59a wee bit of interest in him this summer
06:03from kind of clubs around that level.
06:07You know, but I think retaining him
06:10is massive for Stephen Presley.
06:13I confess to not having seen much of Dundee this season,
06:16but on papers, Cameron Congreve's a signing
06:19that I quite like as well.
06:21Congreve, sorry.
06:22Welsh under-21 international played pretty much
06:26every game for Bromley in League Two last season.
06:29I know that isn't the highest level,
06:31but I think it would have been 19-20 at the time
06:34for a player of that age to play 40 games in a season
06:36shows that there must be a maturity about him.
06:39He's clearly a player Swansea value highly.
06:42I think he could be important for Dundee this season as well.
06:44Moving on to Dundee United,
06:46this is potentially going to be the most difficult one
06:48to speak.
06:49I mean, we've seen a wee bit of them.
06:51We've seen some players that look pretty decent,
06:55but overall, they've not exactly brought in players
06:59that we know a whole lot about,
07:02so it's hard to say.
07:03I think Ivan Dolicek looks a real player,
07:07but does anyone looking at that Dundee United
07:09in's list and then seeing a name
07:11that really jumps out at them?
07:13Zach Sapsford probably has looked decent
07:16coming from the A-League.
07:17As you say, they've brought a whole host of characters in
07:21that was well documented during their conference league qualifiers
07:24about them not having a Scottish player
07:26in their matchday squad.
07:28I thought that was quite overwhelming
07:29because ultimately,
07:30there's no point signing Scottish talent
07:33if they think they're good enough.
07:35They need to be good enough.
07:37And if they don't think they're good enough,
07:38then why not go to markets where Jim Goodwin has shot before
07:44and with success to go and try and get talent?
07:47And I think they look...
07:49They're probably another one where I think
07:50they've had one of the better windows out of teams
07:52in the premiership.
07:53I would look at Stevenson returning as well.
07:56Dolcek has looked really good.
07:59So yeah, I bet Sapsford's brought a wee bit more
08:01of a physical presence, I think.
08:03Up front, they look really good in the game
08:04against Rapid Vienna in Europe
08:06and scored the derby as well,
08:09which always endear himself to the fans pretty quickly.
08:13So I would say Sapsford.
08:17This next one's going to be really brief.
08:19Falkirk, only two permanent inns,
08:21Scott Bain and Brian Graham.
08:24A few potentially good-looking loan deals.
08:28I don't know.
08:28I guess Scott Bain, an experienced goalkeeper
08:32at this level, is probably something
08:34a club coming up from the Championship
08:36will do well to get.
08:40Yeah, I guess you would say it's Scott Bain,
08:43but I don't know.
08:44Does anyone really know
08:45or have seen a lot of the loan signings
08:49the guys like Ethan Williams
08:51or Henry Cartwright to suggest differently?
08:55No.
08:56No.
08:56Maybe I mentioned to Tyrell William Wilson
09:01who scored debut there at the weekend
09:04at Saberdeen on Swansea City.
09:07I thought he looked good
09:09from a couple of clips that I saw,
09:11but yeah,
09:12sure he's out on most of those points.
09:15Yeah, I suppose the big thing for Falkirk really
09:17is that they've kept
09:18almost the entirety of that
09:21Championship winning squad.
09:23The only players that they've really lost
09:25are guys who weren't on loan
09:26or guys who potentially weren't really part of the,
09:29certainly, well,
09:30not maybe the first team,
09:32but the starting XI picture anyway.
09:34A real vote of confidence
09:35from John McGlynn in that.
09:36I would imagine we'll get the best
09:37out of those players.
09:40Hearts,
09:40one of the busiest clubs in the window,
09:42quiet at deadline day.
09:44Jury's still out, I think,
09:45on a lot of their signings,
09:46but there are a lot of really good signings in there.
09:49A bit like Aberdeen,
09:50we've not seen a lot of as you yet,
09:52but I think potentially,
09:54given the money they've spent
09:56and the quality he clearly has,
09:58that's likely to be their signing of the summer
10:01if he fulfills his potential.
10:03But even then,
10:04I mean,
10:04there's so many to choose from.
10:05A lot of the new players have looked good.
10:07Braga,
10:08Kisaridis,
10:09and then you've got guys who you know
10:10are capable at this level,
10:12like Stuart Finlay,
10:14Ocean McEntee.
10:16I don't know,
10:16Ben,
10:17who would you pick out of that
10:18quite extensive list?
10:19I think it's Claudio.
10:20At the minute,
10:21it's Claudio Braga.
10:22He's scored plentiful
10:24in the Premier Sports Cup games.
10:26Single-handedly dragged them back
10:28from 3-0 down
10:29at Motherwell
10:30in that 3-0 draw.
10:32And if it wasn't for hitting the post,
10:34he would have won that game
10:35pretty much on his own.
10:36Coming off the bench at halftime,
10:39he's got a clash chant
10:40and,
10:41yeah,
10:42he's got cult hero status
10:44all over him.
10:45I can see him,
10:46I'll go as far as to say,
10:46I think he'll score 20
10:47for Hearts this season
10:48by the time we get to the end of it.
10:50I think he'll be the main man
10:51at Hearts over Shanklin
10:53by the end of it
10:53and he won't be sold
10:54for a hefty profit
10:55in a couple of seasons.
10:59A relatively disappointing
11:02deadline day for
11:03Hebs-Lewis
11:05missing out on
11:05Lyndon Dykes,
11:06who would have been
11:07a terrific signing for them.
11:08But I think the window
11:09is a whole
11:10similar,
11:11I suppose similar to Falkert,
11:12they've kept,
11:14they've not really lost
11:16any key players
11:17from this team
11:17that did so well
11:18for them last season.
11:20Getting Rocky Bushiri
11:21signed up on a new contract,
11:23getting an extra year
11:24out of Junior Hoylet,
11:25who's an effective player.
11:27In terms of a signing,
11:28you've probably seen a wee bit,
11:30had the chance to see
11:31a bit more of them,
11:31been a bit around him
11:32already this season.
11:34Who do you like
11:34from the players
11:35they've brought in?
11:36I guess for me
11:36it would potentially
11:37be Jamie McGrath
11:38so far,
11:39but there is a lot
11:40of interest there
11:41in the guys
11:41they've brought in.
11:43Yeah,
11:43I think you summed
11:44that up well.
11:45Solid,
11:46but not spectacular.
11:47Good experience
11:48brought in
11:49the likes of
11:49Jamie McGrath,
11:50Grant Hanley,
11:52Josh Mulligan,
11:53who in my opinion
11:54has been very good
11:55so far for him
11:56so I've been quite
11:56impressed with him.
11:58Obviously,
11:59brings that versatility.
12:00He can obviously
12:01play in the field
12:02or drop in
12:02the right-back position.
12:04They shattered
12:05their club record
12:07for Keebo Kuliji
12:09who weren't yet
12:09to get a really
12:10convinced that
12:13he's worth
12:13that type of money.
12:14Jamie McGrath,
12:15you know exactly
12:16what you're getting
12:16with Jamie McGrath.
12:18He's a top player
12:18at this level
12:19and I'm trying
12:22to think of the other guys
12:23then.
12:23Miguel Chaiwa
12:24based on that
12:25solo goal
12:26against Ligia Warsaw
12:28the other night
12:28in Poland.
12:30A piece of
12:30individual brilliance.
12:33I'm excited to see
12:34if they can
12:36kind of really
12:37get the best
12:39out of him.
12:40So, yeah,
12:40a lot of
12:40decent signings.
12:43Martin,
12:44it's probably
12:45difficult to pinpoint
12:46one at this moment
12:47in time.
12:47Based on initial impact,
12:48I would say
12:49potentially
12:51Josh Mulligan
12:52or Jamie McGrath.
12:55But, yeah,
12:56I think Hibs are in
12:57for a decent season
12:58this year.
12:58I think they could
12:59really be
13:00in contention
13:02upwards,
13:04you know,
13:04top two.
13:05I think they could be
13:06laid down a real
13:07marker
13:08and potentially
13:09be fixed
13:10to finish second
13:11which is a
13:12bold statement
13:13this year.
13:15Straight in with
13:15this next one,
13:16Ben,
13:16who do we think
13:17is called
13:17Marnick's
13:18signing of the
13:18summer?
13:19Marcus
13:19Dakers
13:20because
13:21Stuart Kettlewell
13:23has got his
13:23striker wand out
13:25again.
13:26He is
13:26previously,
13:27if you mix and
13:28match between
13:28profiles of players
13:29he's worked with
13:30in the past,
13:30he's taken
13:31misunderstood
13:31big target man
13:33who isn't
13:33actually very
13:34good at
13:34heading the ball
13:35and is
13:35actually better
13:36with his feet
13:36and trying to
13:37turn him into
13:38a seven-figure
13:39player.
13:40See Ross
13:40Stewart and
13:41Theo Baird
13:42for example.
13:43He's trying to
13:44do the same
13:44again with
13:45Marcus
13:45Dakers but
13:45this is his
13:46biggest challenge
13:47yet.
13:47Not just in
13:48stats but
13:49literally in
13:49size.
13:50He is 6'7".
13:51I was at
13:52Kilmarnock
13:52at the weekend
13:53and this guy
13:54is massive.
13:55Tom again
13:55was literally
13:56having to give
13:57the guy a
13:57piggyback just
13:58to win a
13:58header against
13:59him in the
14:00second half
14:00in that game
14:01so I think
14:02he's looked
14:03decent.
14:04I think he's
14:04going to be
14:05misunderstood.
14:05He's not very
14:06good in the air
14:07but because he's
14:076'7", you need
14:08to account for
14:09him in the air
14:10because he is
14:10massive.
14:12So I think
14:13he'll hit
14:14double figures
14:14for Kilmarnock
14:15by the end
14:16of the season.
14:16I think he
14:17will turn out
14:18to be their
14:19best signing
14:19because whatever
14:20you say about
14:21Kettlewell
14:21management,
14:22the style of
14:22play, the one
14:23thing he is
14:24extremely good
14:24at is developing
14:26strikers.
14:27That's his
14:27MO in developing
14:28young.
14:29There's Ben
14:29Brannan's
14:29turning in
14:30a key player
14:30I think up
14:31front.
14:34Moving on
14:37to Livingston.
14:38I like the
14:39business Livingston
14:40have done
14:40guys.
14:42They've kind
14:43of brought
14:43in a
14:44squad of
14:45I don't
14:47mean that I
14:48want to say
14:48this in a way
14:49that isn't
14:49disrespectful but
14:50a squad of
14:51reliable bottom
14:52six Scottish
14:53premiership
14:53talent.
14:55I think if
14:55you're building
14:56a squad with
14:56a goal of
14:57nothing else
14:58other than to
14:59finish 10th or
15:00finish 11th and
15:01stay up in the
15:02playoffs, then
15:03Davey Martindale's
15:04probably done quite
15:05a good job here.
15:07I don't know,
15:08Lewis, is there
15:09anyone you would
15:10pick out of
15:11those signings as
15:12probably the best
15:14of the bunch?
15:14I agree exactly
15:17with what you
15:18say.
15:18A lot of
15:19speculation
15:20is Livingston
15:21struggling, but
15:23I personally
15:24see it.
15:25I think
15:26first and
15:27foremost getting
15:28Mo Silla in.
15:29Dundee I think is a
15:30good bit of
15:30business.
15:31Midfield
15:32enforcer gets
15:33stuck in.
15:35Obviously brought
15:35Macaulay Tate back
15:36on loan from
15:37Hearts.
15:37He did pretty
15:38well last
15:40season.
15:41He might have
15:42been part of
15:43Derek McInnes'
15:44plans going
15:46forward at
15:46Tyne Castle, so
15:47a good bit of
15:48business to get
15:48him back.
15:49I like Graham
15:49Carey, I
15:50think a good
15:52player at St
15:53Johnson.
15:54He's an
15:54experience there
15:55as well.
15:56John McLennan
15:57on his day,
15:59another top
16:00player.
16:00I think he's
16:03one of those
16:03players that if
16:05he works under
16:06the right type
16:07of manager,
16:08then he can
16:09really bring out
16:10the best in
16:10him.
16:11I also think
16:11the goalkeeping
16:12situation,
16:14Jerome Pryor,
16:16the Frenchman
16:17who was
16:17attracting quite
16:18a bit of
16:18transfer interest,
16:19they managed to
16:19tie him down
16:20on a new
16:21contract.
16:22So I think
16:23that's really
16:23good business.
16:24I actually
16:25think Livingston
16:26won't be
16:27involved in
16:27that relegation
16:28dogfight this
16:29year, Martin.
16:29I think they
16:30could be
16:31kicking around
16:32that eighth,
16:33ninth territory
16:35with the squad
16:36that they've
16:37built.
16:39Moving on to
16:40Motherwell,
16:41we'll let you
16:41take this one
16:42away, Ben.
16:42But before you
16:43do, I just
16:44a couple of
16:44thoughts.
16:45I think from
16:45what we've
16:46seen of
16:46Elliot Watts
16:46so far,
16:47he looks like
16:47a really good
16:48player and a
16:49player that fits
16:50into this system
16:51that the manager
16:51is trying to
16:51do.
16:52And I really
16:52like the
16:53loan signing
16:54of Stephen
16:55Welsh.
16:55I think he's
16:57a player who's
16:58probably good
16:58enough to
16:59play for one
16:59of those
17:00second-tier
17:01clubs like
17:02Aberdeen,
17:03Hearts or
17:03Hebsville.
17:04I can see
17:04why they
17:05wouldn't be
17:05overly keen
17:06on taking
17:07a player like
17:07that on
17:08loan.
17:08But I
17:08think for
17:09Motherwell,
17:10in terms of
17:10getting him
17:10in, that's
17:11quite a solid
17:12piece of
17:12business.
17:13Yeah, I
17:13mean,
17:14Jens Berthalasco
17:15has turned
17:15into the
17:15greatest showman,
17:16taking all
17:16these players
17:17that nobody
17:17else wants
17:18and turning
17:18them into a
17:19big circus
17:20of entertaining
17:21fashion.
17:21By Elliot
17:24Watt, I
17:24assume you
17:24mean the
17:24best in
17:25Pirlo.
17:25He has
17:26been unbelievable
17:27since he
17:28came in.
17:30He makes
17:31passes that
17:32when I'm
17:33sitting in
17:34the stand
17:34at Furt
17:35Park, I
17:35can't even
17:36see with
17:37the peripheral
17:38vision of
17:38the entire
17:39pitch.
17:39And he
17:39sees them
17:40in the
17:40thick of
17:40a Scottish
17:41Premiership
17:41game with
17:42two professional
17:43footballers
17:44running straight
17:44at him.
17:46He has
17:46been
17:46incredible
17:48considering
17:49Lennon
17:50Miller left
17:50it in the
17:51summer.
17:52He's
17:53filled his
17:53role remarkably.
17:56You've not
17:56noticed Lennon
17:57Miller's
17:57absence,
17:58which has
17:58been a
17:58credit to
17:59him,
17:59and Lucas
18:00Fadinger
18:00as well,
18:01a remnant
18:02of Michael
18:02from Arira.
18:03He was
18:03brought in
18:04by the
18:05former
18:05manager who
18:06left in
18:06the summer.
18:06He has
18:07also been
18:07excellent.
18:08Looks a
18:09cut above
18:09anything we've
18:10had in
18:10that team
18:11for many
18:12years.
18:16Overall,
18:17I think you
18:17can see the
18:18business.
18:18Kamala
18:18have done
18:19pre-Lennon
18:20Miller being
18:21sold.
18:21It's very
18:22much guys
18:22like Elliot
18:22Wall who
18:23didn't get
18:23against
18:23St.
18:24Johnson.
18:25Or Emmanuel
18:26Loguello who
18:27came in at
18:27left-back and
18:28is now the
18:29top
18:29scorer at
18:30the minute
18:30after not
18:31playing a
18:31lot of
18:31games for
18:32Birmingham
18:33City and
18:33Cambridge
18:33United.
18:34Once
18:35Lennon
18:35Miller's
18:35been sold
18:36or was
18:36in the
18:36works of
18:37being
18:37sold,
18:37you've
18:38brought
18:38in
18:38Callum
18:38Henry,
18:39who's
18:39a reliable
18:39scorer for
18:40St.
18:40Johnson.
18:41Regan
18:41Charles
18:42Cook,
18:42the same
18:42at
18:42Ross
18:43County.
18:43Stephen
18:44Welsh,
18:44I agree,
18:45I think
18:45it's good
18:45Premiership,
18:46fair,
18:47maybe not
18:47good enough
18:48for Celtic
18:48but certainly
18:48good enough
18:49for Mullen.
18:50And yeah,
18:52there's been
18:53others in
18:53well falling
18:54into that
18:54bracket.
18:55The signings
18:56they've made
18:56post-Lennon
18:57Miller have
18:57been guys
18:58who would
18:58have been
18:58out with
18:59on the
18:59budget.
19:00I think
19:01they're
19:01maybe a
19:01wee bit
19:01lacking
19:02at left-back
19:04with Ewan
19:04Wilson going
19:05out.
19:07Up front
19:07there's still
19:08questions about
19:09Apostolos
19:09Sam
19:09Acopoulis'
19:10form.
19:11But overall
19:12they've made
19:13a number of
19:13good signings.
19:14They just need
19:14to actually
19:15win a game
19:15to back
19:16up this
19:16good football
19:17they've been
19:17playing.
19:18And I should
19:18probably mention
19:19Elijah just
19:20as well.
19:21It's been
19:21very, very
19:23catching on
19:24the eye.
19:24Especially
19:25they've watched
19:25the Hearts
19:26game.
19:27Even the
19:27Hearts fans
19:27and people
19:28that were
19:29raving about
19:30his performance
19:30in that game.
19:31So a lot
19:32of encouraging
19:32business.
19:34But they do
19:35need to start
19:36winning a game
19:37sooner rather
19:37than their
19:38confidence in
19:39this sort of
19:39style of play
19:40that everybody
19:40has been
19:40told.
19:41Over to
19:45Rangers,
19:46Lewis.
19:46I think we're
19:46probably going
19:47to be picking
19:47someone who
19:48we haven't
19:48seen a lot
19:49of yet because
19:49the signings
19:50we have seen
19:50a lot of
19:51other than
19:52to be fair
19:53to Gassma,
19:55the ones we
19:55have seen
19:56have not
19:57really lived
19:57up to
19:58expectations.
20:00A lot of
20:00money spent
20:01on Deadline
20:01doing Yusuf
20:02Cermetti.
20:03But I think
20:03for me,
20:04if you're
20:04talking about
20:04Rangers signing
20:05in the window,
20:06if you're
20:06looking for
20:07a striker,
20:08then number
20:0828 is the
20:09answer.
20:11I think
20:11getting
20:11Bojan
20:12Miofsky in
20:13and getting
20:14him in at
20:14less than
20:15half of what
20:16he would have
20:16cost you
20:17just a year
20:17ago,
20:18knowing what
20:19he's capable
20:19of at this
20:21level for a
20:22club like
20:22Aberdeen and
20:24Rangers with
20:24the on-paper
20:25resource and
20:27supply they
20:27should be able
20:28to get into
20:28him,
20:29I would be
20:30having a look
20:31at, if
20:31Russell Martin
20:32can get that
20:33squad purring a
20:34bit, I would
20:34be having a look
20:34at him to be
20:35the Premiership's
20:36top scorer
20:36this season.
20:37Yeah, I think
20:38that's a good
20:39shout, Martin.
20:40I really do.
20:42Trude bit of
20:43business, we
20:44know, proven
20:45goal scorer, as
20:45you say, from
20:46his time at
20:46Aberdeen, knows
20:48the Scottish
20:48League really
20:49well, seems
20:51to have already
20:51grasped the
20:52kind of size of
20:53the club that
20:54he's got in
20:54terms of that
20:55for trophies.
20:58I think he'll
20:59be a kind of
21:00big focal point
21:01in that Rangers
21:02attack, be very
21:03good at holding
21:04the ball up,
21:04good in the
21:05air, probably
21:06still lacking
21:06a bit of
21:07fitness, I
21:08think this
21:08international
21:09league, I'm
21:10not too sure
21:10if he's part
21:11of the latest
21:11national squad,
21:13but it'll give
21:14him a bit of
21:15time to work
21:16on his fitness
21:16because I
21:19think given
21:20him a couple
21:21of weeks, we'll
21:21start to see the
21:23best in him,
21:24obviously once he
21:25gets to know
21:26his new teammates
21:26a lot better,
21:28but for that
21:28type of fee as
21:29well, I mean,
21:30yeah, it's a
21:32terrific bit of
21:33business, isn't
21:33it?
21:34I like the
21:35signing of
21:36Mikey Moore,
21:37obviously
21:37Andrew
21:37Bostokoglu
21:38certainly raved
21:39about him.
21:41Tottenham
21:41Hotspur, this
21:42is a player
21:43who's one of
21:44the highest
21:44rated young
21:45prospects in
21:46England, it'd be
21:47fair to say,
21:48yet to kind of
21:49really see what
21:51he can bring to
21:52the team.
21:53Gassama, as you
21:54mentioned, has
21:55been very good
21:56in Europe.
21:57For me, slightly
21:59inconsistent in
22:00the last couple
22:00of games, he's
22:01been relatively
22:02ineffective.
22:03If you had to
22:05say, based on
22:06the start of the
22:07season, the
22:07games have taken
22:08place so far, I
22:09actually go as
22:10far to say Lyle
22:11Cameron has been
22:12one of the
22:13Rangers best
22:13player, which
22:14given the
22:16amount of
22:17players that
22:18they have brought
22:18in from
22:19abroad, I
22:21kind of think
22:22it's a bit
22:23bizarre, me
22:23saying, but
22:25obviously they
22:26know well from
22:26his time at
22:27Dundee, but
22:29he's a real
22:30terrier, he's a
22:31real terrier, gets
22:32stuck right in,
22:33you can already
22:34see the Rangers
22:34fans have really
22:35taken to him, I
22:36know things haven't
22:37been going
22:37particularly well,
22:38but he's one
22:39player in
22:39particular who's
22:40been a real
22:40shining light so
22:41far for Russell
22:43Martin, who's
22:44been particularly
22:44diffusive in his
22:45praise of the
22:47young lads.
22:49Cameron and
22:50Miofsky are the
22:51two that have
22:52stood out as
22:54good bits of
22:55business.
22:56And last but
22:57not least, Ben,
22:58we'll come to
22:58St Mirren.
23:00As with most
23:01Steven Robinson
23:02teams, you tend
23:03to find that
23:03you're looking at
23:04a squad that
23:04as a whole
23:05functions greater
23:06than the sum of
23:07its parts.
23:08St Mirren
23:09absolutely did
23:10that and did
23:10it very
23:10effectively last
23:11season and
23:12you'd expect
23:12they'll continue
23:13that this
23:14season.
23:15So picking
23:15out, and
23:15individuals do
23:16naturally stand
23:17out in any
23:18team, but
23:18picking one out
23:19from this
23:19group may be a
23:20bit tough.
23:21I think
23:21getting Keanu
23:22Bacchus back
23:23is probably an
23:23easy one to
23:24say, but that
23:24does look quite a
23:26shrewd piece of
23:26business.
23:27What do you
23:27think?
23:28Yeah, that's
23:28probably the most
23:29eye-catching one.
23:30It was a weird
23:30one.
23:31Usually when a
23:32player like that
23:32has been
23:33successful,
23:34there's usually
23:35a bit of hype
23:35about that
23:37coming down.
23:37It's very much
23:38just like
23:38he's back.
23:41Steven Robinson
23:43saying that
23:44that midfield
23:45of Bacchus
23:47killing Phillips,
23:48Mark Ahara,
23:48perhaps one of
23:49the best outside
23:50the old firm,
23:50and I think
23:51they're all
23:51firing, I
23:52would probably
23:52agree.
23:53I do think
23:54that's pretty
23:54impressive.
23:55I think Mark
23:56Ahara especially
23:56is a very
23:57underrated
23:57performance level.
23:59I think if I
24:00was to say one
24:01based on initial
24:01impact, Miguel
24:03Freckle looked
24:04very impressive,
24:06I think,
24:06particularly in the
24:06game against
24:07Rangers.
24:07very composed
24:09and solid option
24:10on the right
24:11hand side of
24:12that defence.
24:13Still only 23,
24:16I think,
24:16comes from
24:17having spent
24:18his career so
24:20far mostly
24:21at Sheffield
24:21United,
24:22albeit a lot
24:22of time out
24:23from them.
24:24So I would
24:24probably say
24:25he's looked
24:26fairly decent.
24:27I think the
24:27one thing
24:28St Mirren
24:28probably haven't
24:29done is
24:30implement a
24:31player trading
24:32model properly
24:33in terms of
24:34bringing players
24:35in and selling
24:35them on.
24:36That's not
24:36really,
24:37they wouldn't
24:37be able to
24:38do that
24:38in the
24:40last decade
24:41or so,
24:41not effectively
24:42anyway,
24:42so I think
24:43there would
24:43be plenty of
24:43guys like him
24:44killing Phillips
24:45to try and
24:46put that in
24:47and try and
24:48bring in
24:48additional
24:49record
24:49for some
24:50of them.
24:51Some of them
24:51did a month
24:52before.
24:53I love them.
