00:00Over 1,000 tourism workers received assistance from the government in line with the Bayanihan sa Bukas na May Pag-asa para sa Turismo or BBMT, as our Rod Lagusad reports.
00:12For nearly a decade, Irene has been a tour guide at Mother Falls in her hometown of San Luis in the province of Aurora.
00:20She said that earnings have been low lately because of the rainy season.
00:23So the financial aid she received from the government, intended for tourism workers affected by calamities, means a lot to her.
00:51Irene is just one of over 1,000 tourism workers who have received assistance.
00:56This is part of the Bayanihan sa Bukas na May Pag-asa para sa Turismo or BBMT, a program of the Department of Tourism and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
01:06According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., this program aims to support the tourism sector, especially the workers who depend on it.
01:14The program also includes training for tourism workers.
01:47For tour guide like Gina, this comes a welcome relief, especially during times when tourism is slow.
02:13According to the President, a total of over 2,800 tourism workers have received financial assistance and training under the program.
02:35Tourism's significant contribution to the country's gross domestic product, which has reached over 8%, was highlighted by the President.
02:42One of the country's selling points, according to the President, is the exceptional hospitality of the Filipino people.
03:12According to Frasco, the program seeks to boost the tourism sector even further.
03:17Rod Lagused, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
