Bristol is a city full of lots of fun things to do, from festivals to theatre and more.
00:08
Let's chat to Charlie Watts from Bristol World to find out what is on this week.
00:13
A new walking tour in Bristol is shedding light on the city's layered past,
00:19
from its medieval roots as a bustling trading hub to its central role in the transatlantic slave trade
00:27
and its transformation into a modern centre of culture and activism.
00:32
Led by local guides, the tour highlights stories of rebellion, piracy and art,
00:39
connecting landmarks like the Bristol Corn Exchange, Queen's Square and the iconic Peres Bridge.
00:47
Visitors hear tales ranging from the notorious pirate Blackbeard
00:53
to elusive street artist Banksy as they explore the city's architectural and historical landmarks,
01:03
including the Land Odger Trial and Bristol Cathedral.
01:07
The initiative offers a deeper look at the complex forces that have shaped Bristol's identity.
01:15
Storytel Festival has launched Story Hunt,
01:18
a free interactive storytelling trail at Ashton Court Estate.
01:24
Aimed at families and children aged three to nine,
01:28
the experience blends outdoor activity with digital storytelling,
01:33
using QR codes placed along a short walking route to reveal sections of a story
01:38
by Bristol-based author Sakia McKenzie and illustrator Lauren Tobiah.
01:45
According to festival organisers, the self-guided trail takes around 30 minutes to complete
01:52
and begins at the Courtyard Café, where families can also collect a small reward upon finishing.
02:00
Storytel Festival, which received over 5,000 visitors during last year's events,
02:06
says this new addition is designed to increase accessibility with no booking required
02:12
and all content available via smartphone.
02:16
Bristol Ferry will operate an expanded daily water bus service throughout peak times,
02:23
running between seven key landing stages across the city's harbourside,
02:28
including Temple Meads, Castle Park and the SS Great Britain.
02:32
The service, which typically operates on weekends and select weekdays,
02:38
will run daily from October 26th to November 3rd
02:42
to accommodate increased demand during school holidays.
02:47
In 2024, Bristol Ferry carried over 150,000 passengers
02:52
and the October half-term period regularly sees a spike in ridership.
02:58
So, importantly, I think that's a spike in my home.
03:15
So, there's a number of groups that do not work.
03:16
It's a centre of our traffic job.
03:18
But I don't want to be able to stay on the right side of my home.
03:20
I think that this is for this kind of project for me,
03:23
but I think the message will be filled with that.
