Hastings United boss Lee Carey talks about the 2-2 draw in the FA Cup at Faversham - filmed by Colin Bowman
Transcript
00:00Good evening and welcome to Fabersham, the Hastings United. We've just come off the back
00:06of a 2-2 result in the FA Cup. I've got Hastings manager Lee Carey with me. Lee, I'm guessing
00:16there's bittersweet tonight. Yeah, I mean when you're scoring the 92nd, 93rd minute,
00:22whatever it is, you know, you'd expect to go and win the game. But yeah, things happen
00:27in football and they've scored the last kick of the game almost. Like I said, we've scored
00:33a lack of a Charlie, it's just a freak goal that will never happen again probably. So
00:37yeah, it's slightly frustrating we couldn't win the game but we'll dust down and go again
00:43Tuesday. I hear on the grapevine that you, as a club, and you personally would like to
00:49have a really good run in the FA Cup this year. Is that something that's really interesting
00:56you? Yeah, obviously I know what the Cup line can do for the football club and if we can
01:01go through on Tuesday and see how far we can go, that would be ideal. But again, we've got
01:06to put a performance in like we did tonight to stand any chance because Fabersham are obviously
01:10a good team. So we'll go on Tuesday and hopefully get the win.
01:15Can you marry that with a good league performance as well? Because I know it's very, very important.
01:22Yeah, I mean, I was disappointed on Monday. I think I made it very clear to the lads that
01:28the application that we showed on Monday, we needed to be far better than that, which
01:32you know, we definitely did that tonight. So although it's a draw and we'll have a replay
01:37on Tuesday, I was really, really impressed with the application from the boys because
01:41it was a far, far better performance than it was on Monday against Cobra.
01:44Yeah. Finally, your fans tonight, unreal. If you're going to get back in like that,
01:52I think these teams are going to go a long way this season.
01:54Yeah, you know, but to be fair, they are absolutely brilliant and all I can do is thank them for
02:00coming up to Fabersham on a Friday night, which has been great. So we're going to need
02:06their support all season because it's a brand new group that we've got in the changing room,
02:09six different players. And I just said to them in there, tonight we had six 18-year-olds
02:14in the squad, four 18-year-olds in the starting line-up, which is absolutely unbelievable.
02:20It just shows you from a football club point of view what we're trying to do and improve
02:24those players at such a young age. And I think that, you know, they've put us in really
02:27beautiful work tonight and I'm really proud of them because, like I say, six 18-year-olds
02:31in the squad is unbelievable. So I'm really proud of them for that.
02:35Exactly.
