00:00Former Leeds United defender Barry Douglas has announced his retirement from professional football, prompting an outpouring of tribute from his
00:13former colleagues.
00:14Douglas was a key figure in the club's 2019-20 championship-winning campaign under Marcelo Bielsa, helping Leeds secure promotion
00:25to the Premier League in an iconic season after a 16-year absence.
00:31He joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018 for around £3m, becoming Bielsa's first permanent signing.
00:41The left-back made 44 appearances for the Whites across two championship seasons, playing a vital role in one of
00:50the most memorable periods in the club's recent history, gaining them promotion to the Premier League.
00:56Despite his contribution, Douglas did not feature in the Premier League, spending the 20-21 campaign on loan at Blackburn
01:07Rovers before departing Allen Road permanently the following year.
01:12Over the course of a 17-year career, Douglas made 455 appearances across seven clubs in four countries.
01:21His journey included successful spells with Lek Poznan, Dundee United and Konyerspoor as well.
01:31Now though, Leeds have moved on a bit since then and are battling to survive in the Premier League.
01:37Despite that though, they're through to the semi-final of the FA Cup after beating West Ham United.
01:45Here's what Daniel Farker said after the game.
01:49Yes, we know that we have written another piece of history for this amazing club.
01:55Very proud of the boys.
01:57We achieved the first semi-final since the 80s.
02:00And now it's a great achievement, a great day for everyone who's involved and connected with Lek Poznan.
02:07Yes, we are late tonight. We never do it the easy way. Of course, it could have been a bit
02:10easier today.
02:11A fantastic beginning of the game.
02:13Also, to silence the critics a little bit with not scoring goals.
02:17Got two fantastic goals. Should have scored the third one.
02:21Should have been a bit more composed of possession to calm the game completely down.
02:24But on the other hand, I guess also the side was also fighting with us in the Premier League
02:29and also fighting for their first semi-final since two decades.
02:34And, of course, they tried everything.
02:35And we had to deal with several sucker punches during the game with decisions against us,
02:39with injuries and then sadly with his late goals.
02:42But then to show this mentality to calm the game down again.
02:47We played a really good extra time also to deal that we were back in the penalty shootout.
02:51And to have this mentality, whatever happens in the end, we'll celebrate and we'll go through this mentality second to
02:57none.
02:57And for that, yeah, a great night for all of us.
