Mark Atkinson at Lennoxtown.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon from Lennox Town, Mark Atkinson of The Scotsman here.
00:05We've been speaking to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers,
00:08a head of the Old Firm game on Sunday.
00:11Lots of little newslines and tidbits from the Celtic manager, as always.
00:16The most interesting one centred around transfers.
00:19He spoke about Adam Ida and Yang-Hoon Jun,
00:21who are both in demand from clubs in England.
00:24He admitted that there's been offers for both players.
00:27Swansea City, keen on Ida, Irish striker,
00:30while Birmingham City want South Korean winger Yang.
00:33Now, Rodgers very clear on the matter.
00:36He said that no players should be allowed to leave unless recruitments come in.
00:40And that, of course, has been the buzzword of this transfer window.
00:43Players coming in the building at Celtic.
00:45They have signed Michel-Ange Balagwisha, the Belgian winger from Antwerp.
00:50He's in contention to start against Rangers on Sunday.
00:52And they are hoping to get Marcelo Saraccia, a full-back from Boca Juniors,
00:56completed today as well.
00:58But Rodgers, once again, was crystal clear in his stance on new recruits.
01:01He wants Celtic to be better at bringing players in,
01:05better at getting them in in a timely manner.
01:07Of course, he didn't have enough players to get the job done in the Champions League
01:11when Celtic crashed out against Kairat Almaty.
01:15We'll see if Celtic do get players in before the deadline on September 1st.
01:21They have been linked with Kasper Dahlberg,
01:23the Danish striker who's currently playing for Anderlecht in the Belgian leagues.
01:28Whether they get him in before Sunday's match against their arch-old-firm rivals
01:32remains to be seen, of course.
01:35Rodgers, it felt like a little bit of a rewind to a year ago
01:39when he spoke pretty candidly on Celtic's transfer business
01:42and how he wanted them to improve and get players in swifter.
01:45Once again, that hasn't happened here.
01:47He reiterated the message that while the club is harmonious,
01:50that while everyone's connected,
01:52he does feel there's room for improvement in the recruitment.
01:55He also said that the game against Rangers is a perfect chance
01:57for Celtic to get back on the winning trail.
02:00They can build on a strong start to the Premier League season.
02:02They've won all their three matches so far,
02:04but of course had those disappointing results against Kairat Almaty.
02:08Excitement also about the Europa League draw
02:10that Celtic wish they were in the Champions League,
02:12but Rodgers admitted that the ties against teams like Roma and Feynard
02:15are mouth-watering and that Celtic do have an opportunity
02:17to go deep in the Europa League.
02:19Plenty from the Celtic manager.
02:21We'll have it all on scotsman.com at any paper.
