00:00Mark, just out of Danny Rawls' first press conference, immediate thought?
00:06I thought he came across really well, Graeme. As always, the proofs of the pudding with the ball managers,
00:12but I think first impressions are important. He looked the part, he spoke the part,
00:17I thought he was very personable, he didn't swear to have many questions, if any.
00:22He seemed enthusiastic, he seemed ready to go, and you can tell how much it means to him to be at Rangers Football Club.
00:29So, all in all, a good performance by Danny in his first meeting with the press, a couple of nice touches,
00:36good eye contact with people, he came and shook everyone's hand afterwards.
00:39I've not seen too many Rangers managers do that in the past.
00:42He seemed very at home, I thought, with where he is right now, and that's important.
00:48Look, perception of Danny Rawls' key, or Ray Rool we should say, is key because so many people don't want him to be here.
00:54There were some people who were quite underwhelmed when his name came out,
00:58but I think if they sat in that room they would have come away thinking,
01:01okay, there's a good man there and somebody who's clearly very passionate and very well versed about what he's going to do.
01:07I think a really interesting address at the start from the chairman, Andrew Kavanagh as well.
01:12Yeah, yeah, he opened up the press conference and spoke about the Vila Rodriguez process.
01:19I think they all took him, Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thurwell, all took accountability for what's happened at the clubs that have come in.
01:25Russell Martin obviously lasted 123 days and they felt they had to move swiftly to get rid of him.
01:31I think they argued that it should have happened sooner.
01:34Nevertheless, we are where we are. I thought they all came across reasonably well in that regard, the board members.
01:40There's only so much they can say and I think now they just want to look forward and try and make sure that things go well under Danny Rawls.
01:49They didn't want to talk about some of the games that we mentioned, of course.
01:52You've got guys like Steven Jarrett, Kevin Muscat, we all know they were in talks with Rangers.
01:56That wasn't really addressed properly, but I think Patrick Stewart said there was confidentiality issues
02:01and they tried their best to address that without going into too much detail.
02:05Ultimately, they are where they are. They know that this appointment has to go well.
02:10Otherwise, the streaking there is so strong to get one managerial appointment wrong, that's fair enough to get a second one wrong.
02:17That would be really dowaging for these guys.
02:19Some really difficult questions in there which, like you said, they didn't really swerve.
02:23There was the ones where they couldn't speak in depth too much about, but I think when you look at Danny Rawls and what he said about
02:29I think someone asked if he could win the league and his answer was really interesting.
02:33He says, well, the first thing is we need to win the next game, which I think is a sensible answer.
02:36I like the line from Danny Rawls about wins in a row and that's really important.
02:40He talked about how he needs to build momentum and Rangers have won a couple of games this season, of course,
02:44but they haven't strung anything tangible together and that's why confidence is so fragile in this football club right now.
02:51Rangers are used to going six, seven, eight games in a row winning football matches.
02:54That's not happened in this current regime and I think Rawls knows that he needs to almost get the snowball effect
03:01and starting in Bergen on Thursday when they take on SK Brand and the Europa League.
03:05I think they can just get a positive result there and keep working and keep moving.
03:08I think that will help them, but there's a lot of work to be done.
03:11Let's not beat it around the bush. There's so much to do at Rangers. This is a small step.
03:15Yeah, thanks very much.
03:17Thank you very much.
