The father of one of two schoolchildren fatally shot in a Minneapolis church spoke out for the first time on Thursday afternoon, imploring the shaken community to remember the eight-year-old by the life he led rather than by how he was killed.

00:00Yesterday, a coward decided to take our eight-year-old son, Fletcher, away from us.
00:07Because of their actions, we will never be allowed to hold him, talk to him, play with him,
00:15and watch him grow into the wonderful young man he was on the path to becoming.
00:22Fletcher loved his family, friends, fishing, cooking, and any sport that he was allowed to play
00:29while the hole in our hearts and lives will never be filled.
00:33I hope that in time our family can find healing.
00:37Please remember Fletcher for the person he was and not the act that ended his life.
00:44Give your kids an extra hug and kiss today.
00:48We love you, Fletcher.
