Transcript
00:00An old Bailey jury deliberated for an hour and a half to find 22-year-old Francie McCaffey
00:10from Islington guilty of manslaughter. But he was cleared of murder. The court heard
00:17how 16-year-old Deontay Moat Slater, who was caught in January of 2023 for snatching
00:25mobile phones while riding a bike and previously convicted of stealing a bicycle the year earlier
00:32and crashed his moped moments after he was stabbed in the neck and chest. Paramedics only
00:41realised he had been attacked and was not the victim of a road traffic crash after they
00:48uncovered his injuries. Jurors were told Deontay probably passed out before he collided with
00:56a lamppost as he attempted to ride away from his killer. The prosecution had asserted that
01:04Deontay was stabbed after getting into an argument with McCaffey after their paths crossed in
01:12Courtauld Road. However, giving evidence, McCaffey claimed he thought he was going to be robbed
01:21by the teenager. McCaffey claimed the teenager became injured when he waved a knife around
01:29in self-defence and Deontay rode into him on the moped. McCaffey was remanded into custody
01:38to be sentenced on the 30th of October.
