00:00Manchester United have rejected Cobby Maynou's request to leave the club on loan in the final days of the summer transfer window.
00:08The 20-year-old has not featured for United across their opening two matches of the new Premier League season,
00:14but did play the entirety of their Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town in midweek.
00:20Maynou believes that he's going to struggle for playing time in the Premier League this season
00:24and asked Man Utd on Thursday whether he could leave the club on a temporary deal for the rest of the season.
00:32Those close to the player insist that he does not want to leave Manchester United permanently,
00:36but for his own personal development, he needs to be playing regular football
00:40and he believes that his best opportunity of doing so would be if he were to leave Man Utd on loan before Monday's transfer deadline.
00:49That request was rejected by Manchester United.
00:52Ruben Amarim insists that Maynou does have a future at the club.
00:57He has urged him to stick and fight for his role in central midfield.
01:02And I guess that is the crux of the problem.
01:04Earlier in the week, Ruben Amarim said that Maynou is in competition, direct competition,
01:10with Bruno Fernandes, the club captain, for the same central midfield role.
01:15And it seems very unlikely that Ruben Amarim is going to drop Bruno Fernandes at any time.
01:19So, Kobe Maynou's minutes, therefore, look to be limited.
01:23Maynou has not really got a clear role in this United set-up under Ruben Amarim.
01:29He's not quite disciplined enough to play defensively in central midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes.
01:34He's got far too much competition to play as one of the attacking midfielders,
01:38given you've got Zerksy, Mount, Cunha, Mbwemo and Bruno can all play there as well.
01:43So, it looks like if Maynou's going to play in this United side,
01:47he needs to play alongside a deeper-lying midfielder as part of the midfield too.
01:52At the moment, that is Casemiro.
01:55It just doesn't look like that's going to be a partnership United use too often this season
01:58because it means that you've then got to put Bruno Fernandes in one of the more advanced roles.
02:02And then that means when Oshesko, Cunha or Mbwemo has to be dropped as well.
02:07Of course, there will be opportunities.
02:08There will be injuries, suspensions across the campaign and Maynou will get some chances
02:13but he doesn't believe he will play as often as he feels he needs to
02:17over the coming weeks and months of the season.
02:20The other maybe elephant in the room regarding a possible loan exit is
02:24not only would Maynou be able to leave on loan and play every week
02:28but he might then return to a United side who are being coached by someone else as well.
02:33Ruben Amarim has yet to win a game for Man Utd this season.
02:35He's under fresh pressure.
02:36The board are believed to still back him.
02:39They want to give him time to turn things around
02:40but he eludes after the Grimsby defeat that something has to change
02:44and it's not going to be 22 players.
02:47Could he walk if things don't improve?
02:49Well, you wouldn't rule it out entirely, would you?
02:51And if Cobby Maynou were to leave on loan
02:53then perhaps he could come back to a different United side
02:56one that plays a different formation and might have a bigger role for him to play in the long term.
03:02But at the moment, contract talks have stalled.
03:04Cobby Maynou wants to leave on loan.
03:05Man Utd had rejected that and urged him to fight for his future at the club.
