00:14A media corruption scandal that has significantly affected its image, Javier
00:22Millet's government has admitted to overpaying for medicines purchased by
00:26the National Disability Agency. And the number of deaths from starvation and
00:34malnutrition in the Gaza Strip rose to 317 amid the Israeli regime's blockade on
00:39the access of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in
00:49Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
01:03Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro led Thursday the closing ceremony of the Second Revolutionary
01:09Special Operations course. The event took place in the Macarao Parish in Caracas and brought
01:15together more than 1,000 members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces who completed an intensive
01:21training course for the protection and tranquility of the nation against any foreign aggression.
01:33The Venezuelan Ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, condemned Thursday the violations of the
01:39United States government of Latin America and the Caribbean territorial sovereignty. Moncada accused
01:44Washington of seeking to undermine the peace and sovereignty of the Venezuelan people through
01:50many overs amidst aimed at destabilizing the nation. In his address at the international body,
01:56the Venezuelan representative reaffirmed his country's commitment to the preservation of peace
02:01and self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean and accused Washington of
02:06violating the United Nations Charter. Through his official Telegram account, Foreign Minister Iwán Hild held
02:17a meeting with the Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerritt, on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro.
02:23During the meeting, mutual commitment to brotherhood and bilateral cooperation was reaffirming the context
02:29of regional integration. The opportunity was also taken to express deep condemnation of the threats facing the
02:36region, including the recent incursion of a nuclear submarine. These actions represent a serious risk
02:42to the peace and security of all of Latin America and the Caribbean, which has been declared a zone of
02:48peace since 2014 and has had denuclearization status since 1967.
02:54The Cuban government rejected through a communique the United States military deployment in the Caribbean
03:07sea, assuring the actions represent a threat to the region. The statement begins,
03:11this dangerous action represents a serious threat and an aggressive show of force against the sovereignty
03:17and self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. It continues, the US claims
03:23associating the legitimate government of Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro, with criminal
03:28organizations involved in illegal drug trafficking is an absurd pretext that is unfounded. The statement
03:36declares that the government of the United States resorts to lies, once again, to justify violence and
03:42plunder. The United States is the largest market of narcotic drugs in the region and possibly the world,
03:48and it concludes saying, no one with minimum common sense and honesty believes that the quantity of
03:55troops that the US has sought to deploy in this peaceful area of the world is the appropriate manner
04:01to fight organized crime, illicit drug trafficking or irregular migration flows.
04:10And Venezuela appreciates Cuba's solidarity and its statement against the United States military
04:15deployment in the Caribbean Sea, a situation considered a threat to the region. On behalf of Venezuela,
04:21Foreign Minister Ivan Hill emphasized, we express our sincere gratitude to the sister
04:26Republic of Cuba for its insightful analysis of the inconsistency of the United States in its
04:32supposed war on drugs. Despite its proclamations, the United States continues to be the largest market
04:39for narcotics in the region and possibly in the world, according to the 2025 Global Drug Report issued by
04:46the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and adds the following. We would like to express our gratitude
04:52for the call to respect the peace zone of Latin America and the Caribbean amidst the threats looming over
04:58our nation, our people and our Bolivarian government under the same criminalizing narratives as always.
05:11Also, the Bolivian chapter of the Anti-Fascist International denounced Thursday the US government
05:17harassment against Venezuela. The international organization emphasized in a statement that it is
05:22crucial to underline that drug trafficking is not the real objective of US interventionism. History
05:29shows that every time the empire finds itself in difficulty, it seeks to take over the natural
05:35resources of our region. Yesterday it was Bolivia's tin, Ecuador's oil, Chile's copper, today the focus
05:43is on Venezuelan oil and the strategic lithium of Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. The document also states
05:50that the truth is that they intend to plunder the assets of our peoples once again, as they did for decades
05:57in Latin America without any compensation and without respect for sovereignty. Finally, the text warns,
06:03unity is the only guarantee of resistance against an imperialism that seeks to impose hunger, dependency and
06:10submission. In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro accused the United States of violating the 1967
06:23Latte-Lolco Treaty, which declared Latin America and the Caribbean nuclear weapons-free zones. The head of
06:28state warned the international community about Washington's aggressive actions and said they
06:34undermine the peace of Latin America and the Caribbean. Maduro also affirmed that Venezuela will not
06:40accept any supremacist attitude from anyone nor any interference in the region. The head of state
06:46prized the international solidarity with Venezuela and highlighted in contrast the isolation of the
06:52U.S. government's aggressive policy. Venezuela, here in South America, a land of peace, and with great goals with Africa,
07:08Europe, Eurasia, Asia, etc., Venezuela is a country admired in the world, loved in the world, not only by governments,
07:19which are showing an impressive example of solidarity toward us, especially now after Venezuela was
07:25threatened with a nuclear submarine, violating the Latte-Lolco Treaty, which prohibits the mobilization,
07:32use, and manufacture of nuclear weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean. Venezuela is
07:39receiving an impressive example of global solidarity. President Maduro also clarified that Venezuela does
07:47not have atomic weapons or nuclear submarines that threaten the peace of any country in the world.
07:52We do not have military and police forces to invade any country.
08:05Our military forces come from Bolivar. They are liberating, not imperialist, not colonizing.
08:14We are not building a military power to steal the natural resources of any country in the continent
08:24and the world. Venezuela does not have atomic weapons, nuclear submarines.
08:36Venezuela does not threaten anyone, nor does it have military bases in the continents of the planet.
08:53Venezuela has a weapon more powerful than all the military bases than all its weapons,
08:58which is the weapon of our Bolivarian history, and has respected the homeland, and is from victory to victory.
09:08The Venezuelan Ministry of Defense announced Thursday the results of the operation of the Bolivarian
09:13National Armed Forces in response to U.S. aggressions against the country. According to Defense Minister
09:18Vladimir Padrino López, the people's response to President Nicolás Maduro's call to arms was a success,
09:25amid the Washington's narrative intended to make people believe that the Bolivarian nation is
09:30governed by a narco state. Padrino López also affirmed that Venezuela is firm
09:36and ready to face any aggression.
09:42And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok
09:46at Telesur English, where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
09:50We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:51Welcome back to From the South. Venezuela calls on the international community
09:58through the United Nations to stop the aggression by the United States government.
10:03In a statement, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reports that through its permanent
10:09mission to the United Nations, it today delivered an official communication address to the Secretary
10:15General Antonio Guterres, denouncing the most recent and dangerous developments in the United States
10:20government's policy of harassment against our country. It continues, the Venezuelan government
10:25has made it clear that these attacks which have been escalating in recent years through illegal
10:31sanctions, smear campaigns, disregard for Venezuela's legitimate institutions and politically
10:37motivated prosecutions have now reached an unprecedented level of threat with the U.S.
10:42military deployment in the Caribbean. These military operations also constitute a flagrant
10:47violation of the charter of the United Nations. Furthermore, they disregard the 2014 Proclamation
10:54of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States , which declare the region a zone of peace.
11:00The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its commitment to international law,
11:05the peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for the sovereignty of peoples. At the same time,
11:11it urges the United Nations Secretary General to actively defend, within the scope of his powers,
11:18the fundamental values and principles of the charter of the United Nations, calling on the government of
11:23the United States of America to cease its hostile actions and to respect the sovereignty, territorial
11:29integrity and political independence of Venezuela. Also Venezuela, faithful to its vocation for peace,
11:36reaffirms that it does not pose a threat to anyone, but that it will never accept the imposition of force
11:43or the violation of his inalienable rights.
11:51And amid a corruption scandal that has significantly affected its image, Javier Millet's government in
11:57Argentina has admitted to overpaying for medicines purchased by the National Disability Agency.
12:02These are the first results from the audit that the executive carried out over the National Disability
12:08Agency, or ANDES, after removing its former chief Diego Españolo for leaked accusations denouncing
12:15overpricing and bribes. According to new data, payments made by the agency for one drug in particular
12:21were 27 percent higher than what the Ministry of Health usually pays for it. Despite the fact that the
12:28government has in this way admitted to the overpayment, Millet continued to insist on merely stating that
12:35everything that was said about the case were lies.
12:47Amid this controversy, the authorities are investigating the Suizo Argentina pharmaceutical company
12:55due to reports that contracts have multiplied recently. The investigations reveal audios attributed to
13:01the director of the pharmacy, where bribes from officials, among them the president's sister,
13:06Karina Millet, are mentioned. As the probe continues, the justice system has ordered raids into the
13:12homes of the owners of the company.
13:14In the United States, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC Susan Monares,
13:27has been fired after less than a month in the job. The White House informed on Wednesday that
13:32Monares' contract has been terminated after she refused to resign amid pressure by the nation's top
13:39health official, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Her lawyers responded with a statement saying Monares was being
13:46targeted for protecting the public over serving a political agenda. Furthermore, they stressed the
13:52decision evidences the systematic dismantling of public health institutions, the silencing of experts,
13:58and the dangerous politicization of science. Her departure coincided with the resignations of the
14:04at least four top CDC officials amid tensions over vaccine policies and public health directives.
14:18In the United States, a memorial has been set up outside a Catholic church in Minneapolis,
14:23in the state of Minnesota, for the victims of a shooting that killed two children and wounded 17
14:28people on Wednesday. The shooting at Annunciation Church, which also houses a school,
14:34was perpetrated by 23-year-old Robin Westman, who approached the outside of the church building
14:40and fired inside towards the children sitting in pews, taking his own life shortly afterwards.
14:47In the aftermath, two white crosses have been placed at a growing memorial outside the church,
14:53covered in handwritten notes while closed by memorials showcase flowers,
14:58breathes, candles and teddy bears honoring the children. This was the 44th school shooting in the U.S.
15:05this year and the fourth deadly shooting that the city has reportedly experienced in 24 hours.
15:16We've all felt the pain from the families and we know that as a collective Minneapolis community,
15:24what we need to be doing right now is wrapping our arms around them. And what I feel right now is a
15:31city that stands up for one another, that does the right thing by their community, and that recognizes
15:38that right now, while thoughts and prayers are great, they are not adequate. These children were
15:47literally praying at this moment. And we have a second showbreak coming up. Before we invite you to

16:20Welcome back to From the South. The number of deaths from starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip
16:26rose to 317 amid the Israeli regime's blockade on the axis of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
16:32The information was provided by the Gaza's Ministry of Health, who declared that starvation and severe
16:38malnutrition have become an endemic medical condition in the Palestinian region. According
16:43to the Integrated Food Security Phase classification, the population of the Gaza Strip has 50% of the
16:50world's cases of food emergency and around 30% of amine. The international entity also informed that cases
16:57include 121 children showing the deepening humanitarian crisis and the urgent need for
17:03sustained assistance in the Palestinian enclave. The United Nations warned that gas and children
17:12continue to be deprived of the right to education since the escalation of the Israeli aggression in
17:18October 2023. The Israeli genocidal operation in the Palestinian enclave has caused the destruction of
17:24Gaza's education and cultural infrastructure, which the international community and experts have been
17:31condemning for months as war crimes. In this context, the United Nations warned that gas and children will
17:38miss out on school for the third consecutive year. The organization reiterated the need to reopen schools
17:44in Gaza, given the threat disposes to the education and future of an entire generation in the coastal enclave.
17:54I was in the Zaytun school and quadcopters were flying above us from one o'clock a.m. until eight
18:04o'clock a.m. There were explosions all night. I was injured, my husband was injured by shrapnel and my
18:10son was also wounded in the head. Thank God we survived, but there were martyrs. I have no shelter,
18:16and I'm sitting at the door of the Baptist hospital, al-Ali hospital, just waiting for God's mercy.
18:24I appeal to countries to stand with us and help us. Where can we go? We are steadfast here
18:29in Gaza City, and I have not left since the war began.
18:36Israeli drones killed six Syrian soldiers near Damascus while they were patrolling a region near
18:42the Jabal al-Man mountain. According to Syrian media, the attack occurred while Syrian troops
18:48were attempting to deal with surveillance and ever-stopping devices discovered during a field
18:55tour in the area. Syria's foreign ministry condemned the strike as a violation of international law and
19:01a breach of its sovereignty. The British base that monitors Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported
19:07that Israel has conducted 85 airstrikes and 10 land operations on Syrian territory since the ousting
19:14of former President Bashar al-Assad and has occupied much of the United Nations demilitarized zone
19:20on the Syrian side of the border between the two nations.
19:31Also, the Israeli regime attacked several areas in southern Lebanon following the deployment of warplanes
19:36in the territory. According to local media, the areas of Wadi Vargas and Al-Jabur were the targets
19:42of Israeli attacks. It also informed that the Zionist army resumed its attacks on more than one front
19:48amid intense overflights by warplanes. In the city of Kafar, Kila, an Israeli reconnaissance plane attacked
19:55a resident's home with a sound bomb before dropping three other bombs in different parts of the city.
20:01Precisely, in this regard, on Thursday, the foreign ministers of Qatar and Egypt informed they are still
20:12waiting for Israel's response to the 60-day Gaza ceasefire proposal that has already been accepted by the
20:19Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
20:25Today, we reached a stage that we are waiting for a response from the Israeli side
20:33after extensive efforts in the past days to reach a common ground to reach a deal to release hostages
20:39and detainees, as well as prisoners' exchange, leading to a ceasefire to end war. However, unfortunately,
20:52these efforts have been met by more disregard. Despite all the negative opinions and lack of the positive
21:02response from the Israeli side towards our sincere efforts and the obstinacy of their stance,
21:14we will continue. We will keep on with our efforts and pressuring and contacting with the concerned
21:19regional and international parties to put complete pressure on the Israeli side
21:25of the Israeli side until they accept this deal that is based according to the proposal of the U.S.
21:30envoy Steve Witkoff.
21:35Faculty and students from the Sanaa University in Yemen mobilized on Thursday in solidarity with the
21:41Palestinian people in the face of the ongoing perpetrated genocide perpetrated by Israel. The
21:46demonstration was attended by the deans of the faculties, professors, employees and university
21:52director Mohammed al-Bukaiti. Carrying Palestinian flags and banners, the participants demanded an end
21:59to the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the university community condemned world
22:04powers that support Israel for being complicit in the Palestinian genocide. In this context,
22:10demonstrators prized the support of the Germany forces to the struggle, urging them to remain vigilant
22:17of threats to the lives of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
