00:00So President Trump is outperforming his predecessor, President Joe Biden, as well as other presidents at this point in their second term.
00:09I am curious. Let's dive into some of those strong points for the president.
00:14What are they? You said immigration, fighting crime. Talk to us a little bit more about those.
00:18Sure. Well, essentially, when we look at what has been a controversial action, sending the National Guard to Washington, D.C., you see that when it comes to issues of immigration, issues of crime, concerns amongst voters are very high.
00:41And even though a majority will tell you that, you know, Trump is acting a bit as a showman, sending the National Guard troops and highlighting Washington, D.C. as a crime hotspot, which they don't really think it's a big crime hotspot in the country.
00:57In general, Americans do believe that crime is a problem in inner cities across America and in major metropolitan areas across America.
01:08A majority view view it as as as an issue, as a concerning issue.
01:14And therefore, 54 percent say that they support Trump's action to send the National Guard to Washington, D.C.
01:23And they view it as a necessary step. So on one hand, they say, you know, he's acting a little as a showman.
01:31Washington, D.C. is probably not the worst place in the country when it comes to crime.
01:35But on the other hand, they like the signal that is being conveyed by the president.
01:40And in a similar fashion, when you look at immigration, there is wide agreement with the administration's immigration policy.
01:52You know, some policies within the umbrella of immigration score as well as 75 percent support for the administration, namely getting criminal illegal immigrants out of the country and deporting them.
02:07And while voters reserve the right to judge how the policies are being implemented.
02:18And again, there's a wide range there. Sometimes they like what they see and more often than not, they don't.
02:25When it comes to the policies themselves, they agree with the policies.
02:28So on crime and immigration, the Trump administration is on a very strong footing headed into the midterms.
02:37And that's why you see it pressing its advantage and now saying, well, maybe we need to send National Guard troops in Chicago or in New York City or another major metropolitan areas.
02:49So do those numbers suggest, do you think, for areas that people think Trump is doing a good job, like crime, like immigration, people like President Trump's sentiment, but they think he goes too far?
03:05And if so, do Republicans have anything to learn from that for the midterms?
03:08Well, I think it's still too early and voters still have a wait and see approach on the Trump administration.
03:19Since the beginning of the administration, we've been asking the question, do you think Democrats should oppose everything that Trump is doing or should they take more of a wait and see attitude towards his actions?
03:30And the number has always been in the low 60%, wait and see.
03:35This month it was 62%.
03:38So voters are still allowing the administration to play its hand.
03:44They are giving the administration the benefit of the doubt and they want to see what results the administration's actions bring to bear.
03:52When they like the policies and they like the actions, they are giving the administration high or higher ratings.
04:00And when they don't, like when it comes to the jitters that we see around the economy and trade and other areas, then they're making it clear that they don't really think the president is getting the traction that he says that he's getting.
04:15And in many ways, the president is betting the midterms on his economy policy and his trade and tariffs policy and his inflation policies.
04:31And I think that that's really the story that this survey paints a full year, year and a half ahead of the midterm election.
04:39Is it a half to two?
04:42So I've been trying to make that a piece of money on the table.
04:43So I've been trying to make that a piece of money on the table for the meal, year and a half ahead of the table for the meal, year and a half ahead of the meal.
04:46And the next day, I'll be looking at it.
04:48And I'll be reading the notes.
04:49So what's your ê²°eline's check there?
04:50And the first one comes to the episode.
04:52So when you've done that, that's where you actuallyiliz糸.
04:53All right, I'll be looking at it.
04:55Well, your first time we've done that one.
04:56That's where you're done.
04:58Alright.
04:58So what you're trying to give it a bit more of the utility.
05:00That's how you're trying to get this?
05:02That's where it's not going to do.
