00:00But the crime numbers are way down.
00:02I'm looking at, you saw some of the stats.
00:04They just read them out to me inside.
00:06They're numbers that we haven't seen here ever, actually ever.
00:11And I think it's probably right now.
00:14To me, I feel very safe now, and I'm hearing people are very safe.
00:17But I know within two weeks, it's going to be, Pam,
00:20it's going to be at a level that's even far superior.
00:24And we're going to then go on to other places.
00:26But we're going to stay here for a while.
00:28We want to make this absolutely perfect.
00:30It's our capital.
00:31And I guess it used to be many years ago, say,
00:36but it's certainly not had a very good run.
00:39And you've got to be strong.
00:40You've got to be tough.
00:41You've got to do your job.
00:42Whatever it takes to do your job, you've got to do your job.
00:45But we've had a great, great period of time.
00:49But I've never received so many phone calls thanking me
00:52for what we've done in Washington, D.C.,
00:55from people that haven't gone to a restaurant literally in four years.
00:59And they said, you know, what you've done is it's unprecedented
01:03because what they said it was just unsafe.
01:08We couldn't do it.
01:09We'd go out, and you'd see the stories.
01:12You'd read the stories.
01:13You'd see all of the things that are happening.
01:14And they said, we just couldn't stand it, sir.
01:19And now I take my wife and my kids to dinner.
01:21One of them said he's gone out four nights in a row,
01:24and he hadn't gone out for four years.
01:27So it's a great tribute to you.
01:30And when I look at you people, I understand why.
01:33Because there's no games, right?
01:35We're not playing games.
01:36We're going to make it safe.
01:37Well, I just want to thank everybody very much for being here.
01:41I wanted to do this.
01:42We've had some incredible results.
01:46The results have come out, and it's like a different place.
01:49It's like a different city.
01:52It's the capital.
01:52It's going to be the best in the world.
01:54We're going to do what you're doing with law enforcement.
01:57And very importantly also, we're going to physically do it.
01:59We're going back to Congress for some money,
02:02and we're going to redo a lot of the pavement,
02:05a lot of the medians, a lot of the graffitis
02:08all coming off real fast.
02:10It's going to come down real fast.
02:12We're working with Clark Construction there,
02:14one of the big ones.
02:15They're the biggest here by far, actually.
02:18And we're going to be not so much building.
02:20It's cleaning and fixing and redoing
02:23and putting brand-new surfaces down on your roads and streets.
02:27And when people come in from the airport
02:29all the way to the Capitol or the White House
02:31or anyplace else, they're going to say,
02:32boy, this place is spotless.
02:34So we're doing that.
02:35Most importantly, though,
02:36we're going to have a crowd of people
02:38that are going to be happy.
02:40You know, I've received more phone calls
02:43from people in the last four days
02:44than I ever have.
02:46I've been here now four years plus.
02:49And by the way, I think we had about the best seven months,
02:52they're saying that any president's had.
02:54We've done a lot of work.
02:55We've done a lot of good work.
