00:00G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01You know, some days at the office are pretty good
00:04and others are exceptionally better.
00:05I'm in a McLaren 765LT.
00:08That is a McLaren P1.
00:10On the internet, everyone thinks that that is the hypercar,
00:13the fastest thing.
00:14But we have it on good authority
00:16that this could actually be quicker.
00:18So we're going to do a drag race today.
00:19Elbors, do you want to run me through the engine in that
00:21and just some of the tech behind it?
00:23Yeah, look, this thing has been the hypercar
00:26of the last generation.
00:27The P1 is the car that everybody wanted
00:28before the Senna came out.
00:29I still think it looks a lot better than the Senna.
00:31It is a 3.8 litre, though, not a 4 litre like yours.
00:34But it's got like 900 newton metres of torque.
00:36So I'm feeling quietly confident,
00:39at least for the roll race.
00:40I just wonder if I can actually get traction.
00:41The only thing I've got to say is this car is so prehistoric,
00:43I have no idea what gear I'm in.
00:45You see, this is what he does.
00:46The excuses start thick and early, but that's okay.
00:50Now that has some hybrid assistance as well, right?
00:52It does, yes.
00:53It was part of that generation, like the LaFerrari as well,
00:56that had the first application of that hybrid hypercar stuff.
00:58So it still works, which is amazing.
01:00So it goes to tell you the technology was good.
01:02So I'm keen to see how it goes down a drag strip.
01:04It still works because they've spent a couple of hundred thousand dollars
01:07replacing the battery on that particular car.
01:09On that car actually has Daniel Ricciardo's signature on it as well
01:12from when he was at McLaren.
01:13That is correct.
01:14I hope that's not bad luck for me because I'd like to win today.
01:17Yeah, good luck with that.
01:18This, on the other hand, four-litre twin-turbo V8.
01:20None of that hybrid assistance.
01:22Both of these are rear-wheel drive.
01:24And the thing is, that has more power than this.
01:27It has more torque than this.
01:28So in theory, today I should absolutely get walloped.
01:32So it's going to be interesting to see how it goes.
01:34We're going to do a quarter-mile drag race from a standing start.
01:37We're then going to do a rolling race.
01:38And then at the end, I'm just going to be quiet
01:40so you can hear these things go across the quarter-mile
01:43and just appreciate the noises they make.
01:47I just want to give a massive thank you to Caltex.
01:50Caltex is helping us cover the cost to this event.
01:52It is very expensive to do this,
01:54and we really appreciate their support in making this happen.
01:57I also want to give a massive shout-out to our mate Lawrence,
02:00who has loaned us his cars.
02:03He's an absolute legend, and we really appreciate his support.
02:06But help us, the time has come.
02:08Engage your drive modes.
02:09Let's go do this.
02:10All right, fly to the end.
02:12Three, two, one, go.
02:18There is no traction at all.
02:25Oh my God.
02:38I had a moment there.
02:48I had the back out of it.
02:50I would have had that.
02:51I would have had that.
02:52Oh yes, I absolutely smashed you, but I had no traction.
03:03Did you?
03:05Yeah, I had good traction when we started,
03:06and then from, I think, second to third,
03:09the car basically stepped out a little bit,
03:11and that was it.
03:13Yeah, I was the same.
03:14It stepped out sideways.
03:15I think we'll have to do that run again,
03:17because the cars were sitting there a little while
03:18until we took off.
03:20But let's do that one more time.
03:21I think hopefully they'll have a bit of heat in the tyres.
03:24That was absolutely mental.
03:26Yeah, I really genuinely expect you to win this,
03:28so let's try that again.
03:30Count us in.
03:31All right, here we go.
03:32One, two, one, go.
03:45Come on.
03:47All right, that was good.
03:48That was good.
03:48I got traction.
03:49I got traction.
03:50No, I don't.
03:50Yes, I do.
03:52All right, baby.
03:53Oh, my God.
03:55That's no traction.
04:00We are destroying him.
04:06That's no traction.
04:12Elbors, in some states of Australia,
04:17that is what we call assault.
04:20Mate, if you could see the sideways action in this car.
04:25I have feared for my life twice now.
04:37And as much as I like to beat you,
04:39from second to third,
04:40this thing is half sideways.
04:42So I lift off.
04:44I actually lift it off.
04:45I had to.
04:45We'll have to go find someone
04:47that's actually a little more capable than you
04:49at using launch control on a car with traction control.
04:52Now, you know what?
04:53I'd like to do it once with traction control on.
04:55Can we try one more time?
04:57Sure.
04:59Launching on go.
05:01Three, two, one, go.
05:04All right, baby.
05:05Here we go.
05:06Here we go.
05:07Oh, yes.
05:22Oh, yes.
05:27Oh.
05:28Oh, yes.
05:36Al Bors, the only thing that's going to help you today is a DeLorean and 88 miles an hour,
05:43because that would be the only way you would be ahead of me on this track.
05:47That 765 is genuinely a hyper car for supercar money. It is ridiculously quick.
05:53Yeah, you know when car brands launch a new car and they need to leave space for the faster version
06:00and they detune it? McLaren got to this and they're like,
06:03no, no, you know what, we're just going to launch this, it'll be fine, we'll see how we go.
06:06Like, the guys here told me that that car would be quicker, but I didn't believe them,
06:10and it genuinely, it's just so fast, it's unbelievable.
06:13Let's go do a rolling race now. This will be interesting because he won't have,
06:19well, he'll still have a skill issue, but the traction shouldn't be as big of a deal,
06:23and I'll be keen to see which one of these gets along quickest on a rolling race.
06:26G'day, I'm Paul. We are filming our next Drag Race series where we take some of the fastest cars on
06:32the road and pit them up against each other to see which is quickest. The cars we're running today
06:36are powered by premium 98 Caltex with Tecron. Caltex with Tecron has been scientifically proven
06:42to help clean and protect engines. A clean engine helps maximise power and acceleration,
06:47providing better fuel economy, reliable performance, and delivering a smoother drive.
06:52Head to caltex.com slash au for more information, and I'll see you on the finish line.
06:56So, we're both going to be in first gear here. I think that is the sort of optimum spot.
07:01We'll get up to 50, and then Cameraman Eagle's going to drop his hat.
07:05So, we'll see what happens. All right, old Wolves, let's do it.
07:09And at least this will be building boost, because when it's off boost, it's not all that fast,
07:14but at least we'll be in boost here. Here we go.
07:16Oh, I've locked up that gear shift. Damn it.
07:24Yes.
07:27Yeah, baby.
07:37Yeah, baby.
07:39Oh, yes.
07:42I am the Roll Race master.
07:44Fucker.
07:46I am the Roll Race master. It's called quick reaction times like a cat.
07:51God, it gets to redline so quickly.
07:54I muffed up the gear shift. We're going to have to have one more attempt at that.
07:58It gets to redline so fast.
08:03I muffed up that gear shift. Damn it.
08:06I might actually shift it to second before the flag dropped, which is really annoying,
08:10because I'm surprised I actually won.
08:11I basically need to be short-shifting this,
08:14because it gets to redline so fast.
08:17So I think we should give that one more shock.
08:19Just to give us a bit more time levels, let's try about 40km an hour,
08:23because I was right near redline there in first anyway.
08:26And are you pressing the manual button so that it stays in gear for you?
08:31Because if it's shifting on its own, you're in auto.
08:33So you're trying to change the rules to 40km an hour so you have a chance to win.
08:38Is that what you're doing?
08:39Well, no.
08:39It just seems like you've discovered a new mode on that car that I wasn't aware of,
08:43and I just want to make it fair.
08:45Well, I won the first roll race, and I'm going to win the second roll race.
08:48Oh, need to actually be in drive.
08:54You've got to be in drive, champion.
08:55It would help if I was in drive and not in reverse.
08:58That would be a really helpful part of the exercise.
09:00Can we try that again?
09:01Sorry.
09:01How embarrassing.
09:02But we'll cut that out of the video, I'm sure.
09:04All right, let's go.
09:05Look at him creeping ahead.
09:15Bastard.
09:18All right.
09:19There we go.
09:20Got the gear shift sorted, baby.
09:22We are on, baby.
09:35And we are winners.
09:42Yes!
09:43Yes!
09:47Yes!
09:48Yes!
09:52Elbows.
09:53What you'll find, and this is a tip for life in general,
09:56if you play by the rules, things always work out in your favour.
10:00So the moral of the story is, by changing the rules to 40 kilometres an hour for the roll race
10:06to suit your better gearing, you have managed to win a roll race by cheating.
10:12Okay, now it's time for me to be quiet.
10:14We're going to put each car up against our GPS timer to see exactly how quick they are.
10:19Oh, my God!
10:29Let's see.
10:30Oh
11:00That was genuinely incredible.
11:16It's probably one of the most fun drag races we've done, and we were both so surprised
11:20at how that went.
11:21If you want to see the rest of the drag races we have coming, make sure you subscribe to
11:25the channel and you press the bell icon.
11:27And also a big shout out to Wildcatch and the legends out here that are hosting us for
11:30the week.
11:31Come and visit this place, visit the pub, have a meal, say hello to the town, come visit
11:35the airport to see where the scene of the crime is.
11:37But until next time, take it easy.
