00:00G'day, I'm Paul. We're going to go drag racing with the new BYD C-Line 7 Performance and the
00:06Tesla Model Y Long Range. These are really close in terms of performance numbers, but the C-Line
00:127 is about 200 kilos heavier, so I think this is going to be pretty close. I'm going to run you
00:18through all the specs and stuff in just a sec, but I reckon we just get straight into it and see
00:22which one's quickest down to the finish line. Launching on, go. Three, two, one, go.
00:30Oh, nice start by me. Holy moly. It is hosing the Tesla. That is amazing. Oh, there it is.
00:52Wow. This is quick. Holy moly. It just sort of leaves it in the dust.
01:00Oh, that was fast. I reckon we go do that one more time because I think I left a tiny
01:07bit early there, but this thing is properly quick. Now, before we get into our second drag
01:13race here, worth pointing out some of the figures. Over 300 kilowatts of power out of both of these
01:18cars. These are some monster performance and I just can't overstate enough how impressive
01:24that is for an electric car in today's day and age. These are kind of just family cars. To think
01:29that they are capable of doing zero to 100 in a little over four seconds, I think is pretty
01:34remarkable stuff. So official performance figures, this is four and a half seconds to 100, whereas
01:38the Tesla is around the 4.8 second mark. So pretty close there, but the Tesla is lighter than this.
01:45It's also more expensive. Big difference as well is that this uses an LFP battery, whereas that uses
01:50an NMC battery. So that battery contains nickel. It has a better power density, which means they're
01:55able to basically pack more energy into the battery and it is lighter than the energy density you can
02:00get out of this battery here in the C-Line 7. So that is definitely going to help the Tesla. But
02:04anyway, time for our second drag race. Let's see how this goes.
02:08Launching on go. Three, two, one, go.
02:17Oh, that was better. All right.
02:25This is properly quick.
02:29Oh, the Tesla's catching us.
02:34Tesla, you almost caught us at the end there. That was impressive. All right. So I think this
02:50is the quickest to that marker, but I reckon we need to go back now and do a rolling race because
02:56I think this is going to be close. Okay. It's time for the roll race. So with this, basically we're
03:01going to accelerate up to 50 Ks an hour. I'll count us in. We're going to mash the throttle
03:06and see who can get there first. It's going to be close because the Model Y was kind of catching
03:10just as we got near the end there. So this is going to be interesting. Very interesting. Given that
03:15that is so much more expensive than this, this is such good value for money for what it is.
03:19All right, let's do this. So up to 50 Ks an hour, and then we will mash the throttle. So there's 30,
03:2640, and 50, and 50. 3, 2, 1, go. Oh, come on!
03:38Go! Go! Go! Go! Oh, no!
03:45Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, dear. That is not very good. All right. Well, I guess let's go do that
03:54one more time just to make sure that I didn't leave late there, but I kind of feel like you had
03:59me there. Okay. Run two. That one was very close. Oh, actually a little too close for comfort, I reckon.
04:06So there's 30, 40, 50. All right. 3, 2, 1, go. Oh, come on, baby.
04:21Come on, baby. Oh, this is close.
04:24Oh, that was close. That was close. Igor, that was like a dead heat. What does it look like on the
04:42camera? Yeah, so the Tesla won that by about a wheels diameter. Okay, so that was very close then.
04:49Well, I guess that concludes it. So basically, C-Line 7, fastest from a standing start.
04:56Tesla Model Y Juniper, long range, fastest once it's moving, which makes sense given that it is
05:02lighter than this by a fair old margin. So what we're going to do now, though, is I'm going to be
05:07quiet so you can, well, I guess, listen to these things go and get some actual performance numbers.
05:19So what we're going to do now, though, is I'm going to be quiet.
05:49So there it is. That was good fun. Let us know if there's anything else you want us to drag race,
06:13especially in this sort of family car performance type segment, because it is really good fun.
06:19If you do want to check out our other drag race videos, we've done a stack of supercar drag races
06:23and a bunch of other stuff. There is a playlist on YouTube with all of those videos. You can catch
06:28that in the description below. Let us know what you thought of the result as well. Did you think
06:32that the C-Line 7 was going to walk away, or do you reckon the Tesla was always going to have the
06:36goods? I'm keen for your feedback. But until next time, take it easy.
