00:42:47For those who are following me on Bible study, I'm taking a little bit of what I taught on Wednesday night,
00:42:55and I'm turning it into a sermon.

00:43:09So Ahab sent all the children of Israel and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel.
00:43:19And Elijah came to all the people and said, how long will you falter between two opinions?
00:43:27If the Lord is God, follow him.
00:43:31But if Baal, follow him.
00:43:35But the people answered him, not a word.
00:43:39Then Elijah said to the people, I alone am left a prophet of the Lord.
00:43:47But Baal's prophets are 450.
00:43:51Oh, hallelujah.
00:43:53Therefore, let them give us two bulls.
00:43:58Let them choose one bull for themselves.
00:44:01Cut it in pieces.
00:44:02Lay it on the wood and put it on the fire under it.
00:44:06And I will prepare another bull.

00:45:23Perhaps he's sleeping and must be awakened.
00:45:25So they cried aloud and they cut themselves as was their customs with knives and lancen to blood gushed out on them.
00:45:35And when midday had passed, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice.
00:45:43But there was no voice and no one answered.
00:45:47No one paid attention.
00:45:49And then Elijah said to the people, come near to me.
00:45:52Well, so the people came near to him and notice what he did.
00:45:57And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

00:46:54When believing persons pray, great things happen.
00:47:01Now, I'm focusing on that five B.
00:47:04When believing persons pray, what happens?
00:47:07Great things happen.
00:47:10This morning, for a moment, I want to talk about an attack on what you believe.
00:47:18Elijah's prayer.
00:47:20Attack on what you believe.
00:47:22And I believe we live in a world that relies a lot on human effort.
00:47:31Technology is getting, technology is taking over our world.
00:47:38Cars are no longer have engine base.
00:47:42They are electric.
00:47:44Houses are slowly moving to solar power.
00:47:50Google believes that the next great gadget that's coming out in the world, going to take the world by storm,
00:47:56is not cell phones, but glasses that have embedded the day, smart calls, smart glasses.
00:48:05And these glasses allow you to make a call, send a message, take video calls, hand free, using voice command and integrated meta AI assistance.
00:48:19Robots are being tested right now.
00:48:22And I believe they will roll out in the next few years.
00:48:26Tesla is creating cars that do not even need a driver.
00:48:30Again, we live in a world that relies on human effort and strategies.
00:48:38Human effort seems to be advanced.
00:48:42But I'm here to tell you, human effort is limited in what it can do.
00:48:48Don't put your faith in human efforts.
00:48:52Because it's been proven it will let you down when you need it the most.
00:48:57And all believers who know God, God does not want us to rely on human effort.
00:49:09Let me park there for a minute because I got a couple of scriptures that say that.
00:49:13Psalms chapter 33 verse 16 says,
00:49:17No king is saved by great armies.
00:49:20No warrior escapes by his great strength.
00:49:24Horses can't bring victory.
00:49:26They can't save by their strength.
00:49:29But the Lord looks at those who fear him and those who put their hope in his love.
00:49:34Victory does not come by numbers and resources, but it come by God at his hand.
00:49:40Jeremiah 17 verse 5 and 6 says,
00:49:44Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh.
00:49:49And those hearts turned away from the Lord.
00:49:52The person will be like a bush in the wasteland.
00:49:55And they will not see prosperity when it comes.
00:49:58John chapter 15 verse 5 says,
00:50:02Apart, Jesus said, apart from me, you can do.
00:50:07Y'all don't hear me this morning.
00:50:08Human effort apart from God is powerless.
00:50:14And our strength, our wisdom, our strategies, they look real good.
00:50:18They are impressive.
00:50:18But they cannot accomplish what God can accomplish.
00:50:23And while I was working on this sermon, I got an email from Comcast that said that the internet at the church is down.
00:50:35And we will contact you when it comes back up.
00:50:39What are you saying, Pastor?
00:50:42Internet is important to us.
00:50:45It helps us get where we need to go.
00:50:47A lot of this technology we use and go and advance it is relying on the internet.
00:50:54But every now and then, the internet go down.
00:50:58When you need it the most, it may not be available.
00:51:02I think about doctors have advanced technology and medicine.
00:51:07But doctors' scans don't always have the final word.
00:51:13Can I get a witness?
00:51:14God can turn over what the doctor says in just a moment of time.
00:51:21And we know that because today, Elijah, I didn't read all the way down this chapter of verse 8, of chapter 18 of 1 Kings.
00:51:32But there was a contest on Mount Carmel.
00:51:37Baal had 450 prophets.
00:51:39God sent one man against 450 prophets.
00:51:45Elijah said, the God who answers is the one who brings fire down.
00:51:51We read where Baal, they cut their sails.
00:51:55They called on God.
00:51:56No answer.
00:51:58Elijah called on God.
00:52:00God burned up the sacrifice.
00:52:03This morning, we want to talk about that.
00:52:05Israel was going through a drought at the time.
00:52:08And that drought was a two-way drought.
00:52:13One, it was physical.
00:52:15The land hadn't rained for three and a half years because Elijah had prayed to God to stop it from raining.
00:52:20But then there was another drought, a spiritual drought.
00:52:24People were falling away from God.
00:52:27They were choosing to serve another God named Baal.
00:52:33And so, Elijah confronted them and called them out on Mount Carmel.
00:52:38And he said, the God who is God will answer by fire.
00:52:44My text shows us when prayer is the focus.
00:52:48When we look away from man and we look towards God, he moves with power, that unknown power.
00:52:55This morning, my focus is really on prayer.
00:52:59My topic again today is an attack on what you believe.
00:53:03Elijah's prayer.
00:53:04Point number one, prayer requires a clear focus.
00:53:09Now, I know people are saying, Pastor, sometimes I pray, but I don't get no answer.
00:53:12Listen to this sermon.
00:53:13I don't know a Christian that I've been introduced to in my lifetime who don't pray every now and then.
00:53:26I know some unbelievers who pray, even though God ain't listening to what they got to say.
00:53:32And that's not what pastors say.
00:53:34That's according to the word of God.
00:53:35But when it happens and crisis arise, everybody need God.
00:53:42You know what I mean?
00:53:43That's right.
00:53:43And so, in 1 Kings chapter 18, verse 21, it tells us that Israel was possessed with a divine allegiance.
00:53:52They had one hand, they enjoyed God.
00:53:56On another hand, they enjoyed Baal.
00:53:59And they loved how Baal let them do whatever that they wanted.
00:54:04But God had some ten commandments, but Baal had no commandments.
00:54:10Elijah described their condition as one limping along the fence.
00:54:15And they were torn between two ideas.
00:54:18And the results were they were accomplishing nothing.
00:54:21So, Elijah says to them, how long will you falter?
00:54:26One version said, waver between two opinions.
00:54:30The word waver in Hebrew means dance.
00:54:33How long are you going to keep dancing?
00:54:36Dancing with the Lord and dancing with Baal.
00:54:41Now, I'm going to say Baal represents Satan.
00:54:44It's the devil.
00:54:45How long are you going to dance between God and the devil?
00:54:49You like partying, but you like worshiping.
00:54:52You like giving to God, but you like doing your own thing.
00:54:55And so, Israel was a people of God and God had given them the land of Canaan.
00:55:01And now they had left the faith and they started serving idol gods.
00:55:05And anybody know God?
00:55:07God is a jealous God.
00:55:10How many know what I'm talking about?
00:55:11And I don't care how long you've been coming to church, but the question is, how long are you going to stop giving yourself a hundred percent?
00:55:21God wants all of you or none of you.
00:55:23How long are you going to stay away from the house of prayer?
00:55:27Talk to the son of the host who are online.
00:55:29How long are you going to be hot?
00:55:31One moment and cold the next moment.
00:55:37How long are you going to play that game with God and Satan?
00:55:44So, Satan has a whole lot of distractions to keep us from serving him.
00:55:48And as believers, you should realize that you're not going to get far if you are playing on both teams.
00:55:57You're playing on Satan teams some days and you're playing on guard teams and others.
00:56:02It just won't work.
00:56:04Anybody know what I'm talking about?
00:56:06So, I was thinking about Brother Kelsey.
00:56:09He's sitting right there probably looking at me like, what is Pastor talking about?
00:56:13Brother Kelsey loves the Miami Dolphins.
00:56:17And a whole lot of others here.
00:56:19And I love the Cowboys.
00:56:22So, let me tell you, let me draw up this scenario.
00:56:24Now, y'all know Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy last year.
00:56:30And so, imagine Travis Hunter playing.
00:56:35And remember, the game is the Dolphins playing the Cowboys.
00:56:42They are totally opposite of each other, right?
00:56:46Now, imagine Travis Hunter playing offense on the Cowboys.
00:56:52But when it came time for the Dolphins to play, he also played offense on the Dolphins.
00:56:59He playing for both teams.
00:57:02There's a whole lot of folk playing on both teams.
00:57:07One on God's team and one on Satan's team.
00:57:11And it just don't make sense.
00:57:13Y'all know what I'm talking about?
00:57:14I'm trying to give you an analogy in football.
00:57:17It doesn't make sense if one guy is playing on two different teams that are opposite of each other.
00:57:26Can I get a witness?
00:57:28So, Israel is now on Mount Carmel.
00:57:32There's a showdown getting ready to take place.
00:57:35It might seem like a showdown about who's going to produce fire.
00:57:39But I believe that it's more than that.
00:57:42It's about who answers prayer.
00:57:45And the biggest difference between Baal and God is God know how to answer prayer.
00:57:52450 prophets of Baal.
00:57:55Only one represented of God.
00:57:57Elijah's standing there.
00:57:59He's outnumbered.
00:58:01And he looked like he's outmaneuvered.
00:58:03Can I get a witness?
00:58:06But James says in chapter 5, verse 16, the new century version, when believing persons pray, great things happen.
00:58:17Can I get a witness?
00:58:19And so, when the church is divided.
00:58:21And I believe when the church is divided, when it believes in two ways.
00:58:28It weakens the church when one part of the church believe God and another part of the church believe Baal.
00:58:35Can I get a witness?
00:58:36When one lives holy and one lives on the fence line, it weakens the church.
00:58:44James said it like this.
00:58:45See, but when the church is on one accord and it begins to pray together, that the church produces power.
00:58:55James said in chapter 15, when believing persons pray, great things happen.
00:58:59But he also followed it up and says, Elijah was a human being, just like us.
00:59:04He prayed that it would not rain and it did not rain in the land for three and a half years.
00:59:10Then Elijah prayed again and rain came down from the sky and the land produced the crop.
00:59:16John chapter 15, verse 7 says, if you remain with me and follow my teachings, you can ask anything you want and it be given to you.
00:59:29Don't you know, and I'm encouraging you this morning, that if you believe in God and that you trust God, God can do anything but fail.
00:59:38Anybody know what I'm talking about?
00:59:41See, not just when you're in trouble, you need to pray to God when you're not in trouble.
00:59:47When everything is going good, when things are going well, you have that relationship with God.
00:59:53So when troubles come.
00:59:58Back in the, I'm going to say the 60s, 70s, and 80s, maybe 60s and 70s for sure.
01:00:06But when I was coming up, we lived in a neighborhood that we could go anywhere in the neighborhood.
01:00:12But when the street lights came on, you knew you had to be home.
01:00:18Y'all wouldn't you?
01:00:19But there was something else.
01:00:20In my neighborhood, every now and then, one of us would get in trouble.
01:00:24And I'm talking about when we were young.
01:00:27And all we had to call was mama.
01:00:29Mama knew our voice over every other voice in the neighborhood.
01:00:36And we didn't have to say who it was.
01:00:39All we had to do was cry.
01:00:40Mama, don't you know when you call on God and you have a relationship with him,
01:00:45he knows when your voice is distressed and he knows when everything is going well.
01:00:51Can I get a witness?
01:00:52Start a relationship with God when you don't want nothing.
01:00:57Can I get a witness?
01:00:57And when trials come, God will be ready to hear your cry.
01:01:03First thing, God requires clear focus.
01:01:07Second, prayer reveals our dependency on God.
01:01:13The more that I walk with God, the more I get older, the more wiser I get.
01:01:20Can I get a witness?
01:01:21And I think I thought about this song that Andre Crouch came up with.
01:01:25He says, I learned to trust in Jesus.
01:01:29I learned to trust in God.
01:01:32Through it all, through it all, I learned to depend upon his word.
01:01:39Anybody know what I'm talking about?
01:01:42Prayer reveals our dependency on God.
01:01:46When Elijah did what he did first was found in verse 30.
01:01:54He called all the people of Israel.
01:01:57He said, come near to me.
01:01:59I want you to see something.
01:02:01The first thing he did was repair the altar.
01:02:04Because the altar was broken.
01:02:08That means that something, that means something to me.
01:02:12That the altar was broken.
01:02:14What does it symbolize?
01:02:15It symbolizes that they had a broken relationship with God.
01:02:20And they had abandoned God for Baal.
01:02:22That first thing Elijah wanted to do was to put the altar back together.
01:02:27The reason some of our prayers are not being answered because our altar is broken and it needs to be repaired.
01:02:36Because the altar is the place of worship.
01:02:40And worship can't take place unless the altar is built.
01:02:45Can I get a witness?
01:02:46Elijah is telling God's people first, we need to put our altar back together.
01:02:51And when our altar is back together, true worship can go out to God.
01:02:54And so many people are struggling with God and don't understand why he's not coming when they call him.
01:03:00Because our altars are broken and the first thing we need to do is rebuild our altars.
01:03:07Can I get a witness?
01:03:09And when you see, see, an empty altar, see, prayers are empty without worship.
01:03:17And if your altar is broken, you can't give God true worship.
01:03:21Let me say that again.
01:03:22Prayers without worship is empty.
01:03:26How do you know what I'm talking about, Pastor?
01:03:28And the Bible said in this text in chapter 18 of the first Kings, the Bible said that Elijah told the prophets, 450 prophets.
01:03:39I want you to go first.
01:03:41You take a bull and I take a bull.
01:03:43You take an altar and I take an altar.
01:03:46You ask your God to send fire and I'll ask mine to send God.
01:03:49And the God who answers by fire, he's God.
01:03:54Elijah was full of confidence because of the relationship that he had with God.
01:04:00Can I get a witness?
01:04:01And when you are counting on God, when you are believing God, when you know that God can handle your situation,
01:04:07you begin to have confidence, not in your own ability, but in what God can do.
01:04:13Can I get a witness?
01:04:15They began, the prophets of Baal began to call on their God with a small G.
01:04:21The Bible said they start jumping and dancing.
01:04:24They start, they didn't hear anything.
01:04:26They begin to cut themselves like their custom walls.
01:04:32But they begin to hear, and I thought about it in my mind as I was praying, and they cut themselves.
01:04:37They cut themselves as a sacrifice to their God.
01:04:42But our God sacrificed himself for us.
01:04:45Ain't God all right?
01:04:47They begin to beg Baal.
01:04:50But the Bible said they heard nothing.
01:04:53And then Elijah, Elijah's time came.
01:04:57The Bible said, he said, draw near to me.
01:05:01And he built an altar.
01:05:04And the altar that he built was for worship.
01:05:08The Bible said he took 12 stones, representing the 12 tribes of Israel.
01:05:14Those 12 stones, he built an altar.
01:05:18Ain't God all right?
01:05:19He began, he began, and what's so good about Elijah?
01:05:25The Bible said he began to pray.
01:05:29Ain't God all right?
01:05:31And you know when believing people start praying, great things are going to happen.
01:05:39The Bible said he stacked 12 stones on top of the wound.
01:05:44It was a drought.
01:05:46It was a drought.
01:05:48The Bible said that he had water.
01:05:52Yeah, a drought around the trench.
01:05:55Ain't God all right?
01:05:57I love how God moves.
01:06:01He moves like no other.
01:06:04Can I get a witness?
01:06:05There's 450 prophets of Baal.
01:06:09They all spread it around their altar.
01:06:14Elijah is standing by his altar.
01:06:17And it dawned on me.
01:06:20Every now and then, God will let you see what kind of God he is.
01:06:27He wants you to realize you don't need manpower.
01:06:32You need God power.
01:06:34He will, many times, he will let you be outnumbered so men can see how powerful he is.
01:06:43Can I get a witness?
01:06:44Yeah.
01:06:45There's 450 prophets.
01:06:48There's one Elijah.
01:06:50I went back into the word of God.
01:06:52I noticed God always moved in different numbers.
01:06:57He sent Moses against the whole nation of Egypt.
01:07:01Can I get a witness?
01:07:02He told Gideon, you only need 300.
01:07:07Gideon said, there are thousands out there.
01:07:09God said, you got me on your side.
01:07:12Can I get a witness?
01:07:14Ain't God all right?
01:07:15People of color, we had to go in the lowest numbers.
01:07:21When we were coming up, we didn't have much.
01:07:24Didn't have much resources.
01:07:27Ain't God all right?
01:07:28People of color, didn't have much money.
01:07:31Didn't have much resources.
01:07:33But God took us way down from cotton fields and tobacco fields.
01:07:40Put us up in white houses and political power.
01:07:44Ain't God all right?
01:07:46Some of us are living greater than we ever thought we would ever live because God took just a little bit and he did a whole lot.
01:07:56God does not care about manpower.
01:07:59He does not care if you've been outmaneuving.
01:08:03God did take a little bit.
01:08:04God did take a little and do a whole lot.
01:08:09Take a crooked stick and hit a straight lick.
01:08:17Ain't God all right?
01:08:20Second point.
01:08:22Prayer repeals our dependency on God.
01:08:25Well, my last point is, prayer releases God's power.
01:08:32The Bible said in the 36th and the 37th verse, Elijah prayed this prayer.
01:08:43God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel.
01:08:48Let it be known this day that you are God of Israel and I am your servant and I've done all these things at your words.
01:09:01Hear me, O Lord, and that these people may know that you are the Lord God and that you turn hearts back to you again.
01:09:13He prayed a prayer of 63 words.
01:09:18The Bible indicates he was not loud.
01:09:21He was not alone.
01:09:24And his words were little.
01:09:26Ain't God all right?
01:09:27But when he prayed,
01:09:30yet God heard
01:09:32and fire
01:09:34came down from heaven.
01:09:37It was though it was a trial.
01:09:40There was a contest.
01:09:42But God wanted men to know
01:09:44who he was.
01:09:47God did just place his fingerprint
01:09:49on this situation.
01:09:52God put his DNA
01:09:54all over this.
01:09:56God wanted men to know
01:09:58it was him
01:09:59that gave the answer.
01:10:01Ain't God all right?
01:10:02Men say,
01:10:04rocks don't burn by fire.
01:10:07Water is not consumed by fire.
01:10:10wood is.
01:10:12But the Bible said
01:10:13when God came,
01:10:15the fire lit up the water.
01:10:17It broke up the rocks.
01:10:20It kicked up and destroyed all the dust and wood.
01:10:24God laid his DNA
01:10:25on this situation.
01:10:28He want Elijah to know.
01:10:30He want all men to know
01:10:31that there is power.
01:10:33When you call on the name of God.
01:10:37Ain't he all right?
01:10:39He's an amazing God.
01:10:41And I don't know about you,
01:10:42but there are times
01:10:44that I've been praying
01:10:45and God came and answered.
01:10:47And it still was amazing to me
01:10:49how he answered my prayer.
01:10:52Even though he had,
01:10:53I asked him.
01:10:54When he does come,
01:10:55it's just amazing
01:10:57to see what happens
01:10:59when God's people
01:11:00believe in God
01:11:02and believe enough
01:11:04that he will answer prayer.
01:11:06But the text says
01:11:07in James' mind,
01:11:09when believing persons pray,
01:11:11God,
01:11:12great things will happen.
01:11:14What happens
01:11:14when believing persons
01:11:16begin to pray?
01:11:17When believing persons
01:11:19begin to pray,
01:11:21families that have been broken up
01:11:23get mended back together.
01:11:24when believing persons
01:11:27pray from their heart
01:11:29that they're hard to God.
01:11:31Men who are not even interested
01:11:33in spiritual things
01:11:35fall down at the altar of God
01:11:37when believing people pray.
01:11:40Man,
01:11:41the church will help men
01:11:43and women build up their altar
01:11:44so they can worship God
01:11:47like they deserve it.
01:11:49Can I get a witness?
01:11:51There's always going to be
01:11:52some attack
01:11:53on what you believe
01:11:55if you stand for God.
01:11:57And sometimes
01:11:58when you stand for him,
01:12:00you gotta stand
01:12:01all by yourself.
01:12:04Can I get a witness?
01:12:05Elijah is standing
01:12:06which seemed like
01:12:08all by himself.
01:12:10But he has a power.
01:12:12How many know
01:12:13there's power?
01:12:15When you call on
01:12:16the name of Jesus,
01:12:18there's power
01:12:18when you pray.
01:12:20And I know sometimes
01:12:22I've been praying
01:12:24and he does not come.
01:12:26But I do know
01:12:27I keep on praying
01:12:29because he may not come
01:12:31when I want him to.
01:12:33But he's always,
01:12:35he's always
01:12:37on time.
01:12:39Anybody know
01:12:40what I'm talking about?
01:12:41Ain't he alright?
01:12:43Is there anybody here
01:12:44been in the hospital
01:12:46and you didn't know
01:12:47the doctor
01:12:48did not give you
01:12:49a good report?
01:12:49But somehow God
01:12:52stepped in
01:12:53and laid his hands
01:12:54on you.
01:12:55Anybody know

01:13:00didn't know
01:13:01how you were gonna solve it
01:13:03but God came
01:13:04and laid his hands
01:13:05on it

01:13:08worked out.

01:13:13didn't know
01:13:14how you gonna pay
01:13:15you bill
01:13:16but somehow
01:13:17somehow
01:13:17God came through
01:13:21and blessed you.

01:14:22it doesn't generate

01:14:26but when you flip

01:14:29it connects us
01:14:31with Florida
01:14:32power and light

01:14:41when it's up
01:14:42it connects

01:14:45how to pray
01:14:46Elijah didn't have
01:14:48no power
01:14:49but his prayer

01:14:59from heaven
01:14:59not because
01:15:00Elijah's doing
01:15:01but because
01:15:02of God's doing

01:15:08we're not creating
01:15:10the answer
01:15:11we're connecting
01:15:13with the one
01:15:14who's already
01:15:14had the power
01:15:15hallelujah
01:15:16some of us
01:15:18need to hit the switch
01:15:19hit that switch
01:15:21ain't God alright
01:15:23if you hit the
01:15:24right switch
01:15:25the power
01:15:26will come
01:15:28in your situation
01:15:29in your
01:15:30you may not

01:15:33you might not
01:15:36need fire
01:15:36from heaven
01:15:37but I'm
01:15:39a witness
01:15:40you gonna need
01:15:41something

01:16:11God healed her
01:16:14some of you

01:17:03attack on
01:17:04people of color
01:17:05but let me tell you
