00:00I've just seen this incredible entrance from the big new signing of Uriezzi from Crystal Palace.
00:05That is the coolest walkout I've ever seen.
00:07Look at this little look to his right.
00:09Look, he has a little stop.
00:11Yes, you know it.
00:13I thought you were cool.
00:15I love that.
00:16That is good.
00:18Where are they all going to play?
00:19I mean, it's a great headache to have as a manager, isn't it?
00:21He wanted two good players in each position, better than good players.
00:25I mean, they've got an exceptional player there.
00:26He's going to push a lot.
00:27Well, it hasn't stopped Man City in the past, is it?
00:28But especially if these young players keep progressing as well, Jamie, and are demanding to play.
00:33Like Daman on the bench for the first time tonight.
00:35Yeah, you've got one area that's not getting a game.
00:36Myles Lewis-Gelli's not starting again today.
00:38But when you play for a top club, that's the price on the ticket.
00:42You have to have that kind of competition if you want to win titles.
00:44Do you sense, Theo, this is a big night for Victor Jokeres?
00:47Is this the kind of game he's been signed to deliver in?
00:50I think so.
00:51These are the games where, if opportunities are limited, he can do something different than that they haven't had for many years.
00:56Such as?
00:57Such as make that instant run, like strikers think differently.
01:00That selfish act.
01:02And Havertz is an incredible footballer, but they need a centre-forward who just knows how to put it back in the net.
01:06Get those tap-ins.
01:08Get your numbers up.
01:09Win games at vital moments.
01:11Of course, a big night for Noni.
01:12Maduweke starting his first game for Arsenal as well in the Premier League.
01:16Let's see how they fare.
01:17Both teams, remember, with winning starts, Arsenal take on Leeds United.
01:21Watch for us by Gary Neville and Rob Hawthorne.
01:24Well, it is the first home game of the season that might show Arsenal's direction under Mikel Arteta, whether they've plateaued or whether there is a new peak ahead.
01:35The push to turn silver medals into gold this season sees Arteta giving out three home debuts.
01:43David Ryer gave Arsenal a solid platform to claim maximum points at Old Trafford.
01:48Scorer Ricciardo Palafiori starts again, but there is a switch on the other side with Ben White injured and Durian Timber replacing him.
01:56Martin Odegaard's 200th Arsenal appearance coincides with the first at the Emirates for Martin Zubomendi.
02:04Victor Jokerez and Noni Maduweke also play here for Arsenal for the first time.
02:09Maduweke dislodges Gabriel Martinelli, who is on a bench that includes one of the most talked-about young talents in the game.
02:17Could this be the day we see 15-year-old Max Gowman?
02:21Daniel Farker doesn't stray too far from the set-up that brought them an opening win against Everton.
02:31Lucas Perry is one of the three summer signings again chosen to start.
02:36Gabriel Goodmanson is the only one in the back four who wasn't part of the championship promotion.
02:42The single change from Monday is forced on them by Ethan Ampadu's injury.
02:47Ilya Gruev, who came on in the last match, now makes his first Premier League start.
02:53Farker does keep faith with a front line that got Leeds into this position.
02:57So Joel Piru starts again.
03:00And despite the availability of their ninth summer recruit, Noah Okafor is on the bench alongside defender Jakob Biol,
03:07who's free to make his debut after suspension.
03:10Ahead of kick-off, Arsenal are remembering a former director and board member, Richard Carr,
03:19who sadly died recently and there will be a period of applause.
03:24And the players are wearing black arm bands too.
03:28And the players on the board, he made huge contributions toward the advancements of our youth academy.
03:34Richard was a regular supporter and actually here at Everton Stadium and will be greatly faced by us all.
03:41Our thoughts are on Richard's other ones and some of whom are joining us as guests here today.
03:47Everyone is now invited to join us as a group of applause in memory of Richard Carr.
04:23And so Arsenal's first home commitment brings them up against a team who are in the championship this season
04:48looking to make a more successful venture at this level than they did last time out.
04:54Came close in their first attempt to get back in the Premier League
04:57and stormed it last year by being the top scorers throughout all four divisions.
05:05Sense of excitement here already with half an hour before kick-off,
05:09the news of the news of Fabericci Ezzer's signing confirmed.
05:19After the initial ascent under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have been stuck in second place for three years running.
05:28The last step is proving the most problematic and their bid to stay on track to win the league title
05:35brings them up against a team at the moment excited to be back at this level,
05:39but a team for whom, like Arsenal, one goal was enough in the opening weekend.
05:44Yeah, and we're still finding our feet.
05:49Second weekend of the Premier League season, trying to find out and work out where teams are at.
05:54We'll talk a little bit more about these two today.
05:56William Saliba and Gabriel, who were both named in the PFA Team of the Year for last season,
06:05along with Declan Rice.
06:10The part of Raya's contribution was key to earning Arsenal that victory at Manchester United last Sunday.
06:18Saliba looking for Jokeres, who would like to get off to a goal-scoring start as quickly as possible,
06:24as any striker would.
06:25Yeah, you can think about the first two times that ball's gone up to him in the first minute.
06:29Last week against De Ligt, he had a real battle with him, but De Ligt came out on top.
06:34He's just got hold of a couple already, which is encouraging for Jokeres.
06:41I know you had that debate last week about whether Jokeres or Havertz would be the preference for Mikel Arteta in the big games.
06:48That decision's been taken out of the manager's hands now by the injury for Havertz.
06:54It looks like Madweke's going to get his first touch here.
06:58I always think he's better on this right-hand side, but he's not going to get in this Arsenal team over here
07:03because of Saka's levels.
07:05So he's going to have to adapt and play on that side and work out how he can feed Jokeres with crosses.
07:11It's quite rare now you see a left-putted player on the left wing.
07:13Madweke is the target sought out, gets his first chance to take on Bogle and ends up putting a delivery in that has to be dealt with by Lucas Perry.
07:25Yeah, that's exactly what I've just referred to.
07:28He just want really good, consistent balls into the box.
07:32Daniel Farka said it wouldn't be just about a containing job here against Arsenal.
07:40He wants his team to have plenty of possession of the ball and to do what they can with it in those moments.
07:48Yeah, and I think he's getting a little bit tired of the questions about the height of the players that he's signed,
07:55referring to his front three and Tanaka all being quite small.
07:59And I think the majority of his nine signings have had height on their side,
08:05but he's only starting with three of them at the moment.
08:09Here is Madweke.
08:11With a Bogle a second test and the cross is cleared by Joe Roden.
08:17As Calafiore had stepped up on the outside of Madweke then.
08:23Tanaka cut out by Zubamendi.
08:26Yeah, Tanaka was very good on Monday night.
08:28Against Everton.
08:32Standout performer in their promotion campaign.
08:38The goalkeeper has been added since then and it was a problem area for Leeds that both during the campaign
08:43where they swapped Meliou for Carl Dalio right at the end
08:46and when Meliou struggled during their last year, particularly in the Premier League.
08:58There he is, one of those who's over six foot.
09:07A player who has European experience.
09:10He was a quarter-finalist in the Europa League at Lille.
09:13And there's Gabriel Goodmanson, another summer signing, Swedish international.
09:25Throw not returned to him though.
09:27Gabriel to Jokeres.
09:34Daniel James stood on it and Declan Rice pounced.
09:39Here's Madweke who's seen plenty of the ball early on.
09:42Martin Odegaard.
09:43It's a long way out and Joe Roden was in the way of the shot.
09:48Gabriel pressing high here against Anaka.
09:51And Odegaard there to pick up the pieces.
09:54This is Calafiore.
10:06Now Zubamendi who's been reunited at Arsenal with Mikel Marino.
10:11But Marino can't get in the starting line-up at the moment.
10:19Now Gabriel.
10:21This is Declan Rice.
10:22Zubamendi.
10:35Odegaard.
10:37Drifting away from Stack.
10:42And now Gabriel.
10:45They've certainly tried to amass their resources here to try and prevent Arsenal from playing through them.
10:52It's going to have to be intricate.
10:53It's going to have to be clever here for Arsenal.
10:56And it's given away.
10:58That team staff didn't make the most of it for the first time.
11:00Rueff didn't really either because his touch caused him to give away what would have been a free kick.
11:06Had the ref not played an advantage.
11:08Here's Saka.
11:08Goodmanson giving Jared Gillett the opportunity to stop play.
11:17I think he managed it quite well there, the referee.
11:24There were a couple of fouls and he let one of them go for the advantage.
11:28Brought that one back.
11:29Rueff got away with the initial foul, although it was a good advantage played as Arsenal were looking strong.
11:38There is a number 10 shirt waiting for him in the team.
11:41He's already sported it for his very cool walk out here.
11:44Looks as though this is the kind of stage he could own.
11:46Does that say Spurs?
11:48I don't think so.
11:52It's a low blow.
11:55He's just rubbing their noses in it after they tried to side him and got gazumped.
12:06Here's Odegaard.
12:16Here's Reiss.
12:28The game settled into an early pattern of Arsenal.
12:33I mean, a wall of blue in front of them and Leeds have to work out how to get out from that deep defence.
12:39James and Nonto having to go deep and support the full-backs.
12:43Nonto here now with Saka.
12:44Here's Odegaard, lining one up.
12:48It's on the wrong side of the post.
12:51Yeah, and for Arsenal, making sure that they do look to penetrate and pass their way through this Leeds team.
12:58I've been just recycling it all the time and Saka does well here.
13:02I can't see Odegaard to hit the target.
13:04Just outside the edge of the box.
13:07200th game for Arsenal for Martin Odegaard.
13:09His first start actually was in a match against Leeds United, a win.
13:12In fact, he's won all five of the times that he's played against them.
13:16Back by Goodmanson.
13:23There's Pascal Straug, a veteran of Leeds' last Premier League campaign.
13:28Kerry just hesitating for a moment there against Victor Jokeres.
13:31Stays in for Madrake, who got caught by Jadon Vogel.
13:37It wasn't a great tackle.
13:38I have to say, I think the goalkeeper, he got an early warning, I think in minute two,
13:43where he took his time on the ball and he got hunted down.
13:45He's just got to be a bit sharper in his work.
13:47Just so you make it stuck under his feet, Jokeres has nearly got on top of him twice.
13:54He lands his full-back in a right mess.
13:56So Jadon Vogel picks up the first yellow card of this early evening.
14:13Pitching under pressure.
14:16It's the last thing you want away from home.
14:19Playing against a talented player.
14:20I thought the talk has been about Leeds' big men.
14:29This is where you want them.
14:30They want them to do their stuff.
14:32A pile on from Arsenal.
14:33We'll come from the far side, although Calafiore drifts in now.
14:36Leeds his others likewise.
14:38It's a poor kick in the end from Odegaard.
14:40Cleared by the man who'd given it away.
14:50It's pretty good to see where Jose plays for Arsenal.
14:54Obviously he's not going to play on the right-hand side because Saka's there.
14:58Jokeres will play up front.
14:59Will he play in that Odegaard role or will he go on that left-hand side
15:02and fight it out with Maduaki and Martinelli?
15:07Here's Saka.
15:11Control by Calafiore.
15:13He's gone down, the challenge was by James.
15:16The referee ignores it.
15:17And Saka got in there and tries to fling himself at it.
15:23But it was inches in front of him.
15:25He's always reaching.
15:28It's the right idea from Declan Rice.
15:32Saka stands it up to start with in Calafiore.
15:37Advanced position, it's no penalty.
15:40As it comes back to Rice, it's a good little run there.
15:43A little check and movement from Saka.
15:47It's definitely not a penalty.
15:53Calafiore hooking his leg into Dan James'.
15:56Here's Gruev.
16:04Touch from Piru, kept in by Willy Njonto.
16:06There's one-way traffic so far.
16:16Leeds looking to break the mould.
16:19Yeah, that's him.
16:20It's James with Calafiore to take on.
16:23I think he has to be direct and go right for Calafiore there.
16:28I must think that a wide player gets the first one-on-one in a match with a full-back.
16:33You've got to really signal your intent and go for him.
16:36Just putting inside lets the full-back off.
16:40Calafiore, up until that point, have had both of the Leeds players on the back foot.
16:45James hoping that that pattern will change.
16:55Perry going the direct route here, looking for Joel Piru.
17:00Handled by Gabriel, but not enough to see a free kick given against him.
17:04It's going to go away for Gabriel.
17:18He's got to make sure they don't end up back at the keeper from a throw-in that they have done.
17:38I always think you've got a throw-in in the attacking half of the pitch.
17:40Your opportunities to attack today are going to be few and far between,
17:43and you end up back at your goalkeeper.
17:46It's an easy giveaway.
17:48Daniel Farker looking for a more constructive approach from his team.
17:57He's actually won successive Premier League matches for the first time in his personal history,
18:01but those victories were some three and a half years apart.
18:06He won his very last game in charge of Norwich at Brentford,
18:09then won on Monday night.
18:12Thanks to Lucas Murch's penalty against Everton.
18:18And Everton is trying to sweep it out to Calafiore.
18:23He certainly isn't shy in coming forward.
18:25One by Goodmanson.
18:35One by Goodmanson.
18:37Now Saliba.
18:40And they've been struggling to hold on to the ball when they have won it back.
18:43Andrew Farker is looking for a free-kick there to be awarded for the challenge on Yento,
18:47but the free-kick that is given goes against one of his own players, Anton Stapp.
18:51And another one across his body nicely.
19:03That's all really positive with a throwing.
19:05Timber throwing it into the forward position, committing leads.
19:10Another chance to put a free-kick in here.
19:12An awkward landing now for Odegaard.
19:17His shoulder is suffering the consequences of it.
19:23Hoping for an injury-free season this year for Arsenal after it cost them dear last,
19:27but already now without Kai Havertz.
19:31Ben White also on the sidelines after the opening weekend.
19:49Again, they've overloaded on the far side from the free-kick taker.
19:55It's an interesting bunching.
19:56I used to see them do that on corners.
19:58They then tend to come in and then jump in.
20:03They all started offside until the free-kick is drifted in.
20:07And Perry knew that he could afford to leave that in some comfort.
20:22Well, plenty of football for you.
20:24Choice on Sunday.
20:24First game at Everton's brand-new shiny stadium is against Brighton.
20:29Plenty on that Crystal Palace against Nottingham Forest match.
20:32On and off the pitch.
20:34Super Sunday is full against Manchester United.
20:36It's given away.
20:37And on the turn was Joel Pirou who sweeps it wide.
20:41Leeds causing their own problems there.
20:43I've said this in the last couple of weeks.
20:47Teams that come up from the Championship are just not going to be able to play out in the first 25 minutes against Arsenal away.
20:52Arsenal are one of the best defensive teams and pressing teams in this league.
20:55And the goalkeeper, he's had two or three warnings.
20:58I mean, they're ridiculous passes to play.
21:01And to be fair, Jokeres has got a lot more time.
21:03He has to compose himself, settle down, take a touch.
21:06Maybe he's reaching for it.
21:07But I think he could have done a lot better.
21:12Took a touch and then just slotted it into the side of the goalkeeper and Arsenal 1-0 up.
21:18But that should be the final warning for Leeds.
21:20I don't want to see the goalkeeper or the centre-halves playing it in their own six-yard box again.
21:24And it's ridiculous.
21:34Well, the weekend is rounded off by another one with plenty of implications off the pitch.
21:39Newcastle against Liverpool.
21:40Monday night action with the programme starting at 6.30.
21:43And Thierry Henry joining us for that.
21:45It's a shot from Jokeres, who is the first he's had in the Premier League in Arsenal colours.
21:59It's like he didn't quite know where he was.
22:01I don't know if he may have thought there was a defender near to him or...
22:05I think perhaps at the time to be able just to sort of settle himself.
22:11There was a bit pressure as well, wasn't it, from Zubamendi to force the mistake from Stack.
22:16And when the Arsenal midfield player's eyes must have sort of...
22:20Wide open, sort of...
22:21I can't believe what they've seen from Leeds playing out.
22:24It's a real invitation to press.
22:29A nervous moment for Leeds, but one that they got away with.
22:32And in some respects, the number they can bring in there in this game.
22:36The more confident they might become of Daniel Farkaside getting something out of it.
22:42Yeah, he knows he's playing against a good team.
22:44And his team have set up well defensively.
22:46So what you don't want to do is hand Arsenal a goal by your own mistakes.
22:51I know Arsenal are very strong on set pieces, but they have struggled at times to break down deep defences.
22:56There's a chance here now for Jokeres, and he plays it to him.
22:58Now, Dweke does play it to Jokeres, but it wasn't the best ball and Bogle stepped in.
23:03No, it wasn't.
23:10It's one of those, if I think he plays it into his feet,
23:13Jokeres can then stop it and maybe take the shot early.
23:15He makes the run round.
23:17He's got a release of two there now, but he's got to pass it into his path.
23:20He's never on in front of him.
23:31Nice round it back.
23:33You do look at the signing they made in Madwekin, the players they've already got here.
23:36You wonder how they're going to accommodate everybody with Eze, don't you?
23:38Yeah, I mean, because Eze's, I think of him as being a number 10, sort of playing off the side.
23:46Obviously, Martin is just struggling a little bit at the moment.
23:50He's got Dweke on that left-hand side, so we should see, I mentioned it earlier in the game,
23:55where is he going to play?
23:56It's a good problem to have.
23:59Trussard, too, who agreed terms, agreed new terms on his existing contract.
24:05He's got his stack.
24:08Now Daniel James, slashing another early one, this time at Calafiore.
24:14Yeah, again, I wish Daniel James had just gone down, you know, it gets played to him.
24:18Drive towards Calafiore, you can get a penalty, you can get closer to the goal,
24:21and maybe then you can cut inside and shoot with your left foot.
24:29There's a corner that either side has won.
24:31They did look quite dangerous with them against Everton, particularly an early one
24:37that Ethan Ampadu got an initial touch to, and minus his services today,
24:42they've got Stroud, Roden, Goodmanson all in the box.
24:46And Riot has to make the save, and then Stroud realises just how close that was.
24:53Oh, it's a great delivery.
24:56It's a great header.
24:59There's great reactions from the goalkeeper as well, Riot helps him,
25:03it's right above him, so it's in his arc of his arm, stick his arm up.
25:07It's got to be a strong hand, and it is.
25:10Moriah, the Arsenal saviour, Stroud, who has scored here before in the Premier League,
25:19scored in a Leeds defeat here.
25:24That look of territory went on, but the corner was clear.
25:30As they're looking for the burst, Stack came back and got a key touch there,
25:34and James helps it back.
25:39Jucares broke quickly, but Leeds did likewise.
25:48A warning shot across the bowels for Arsenal,
25:50that they can take nothing for granted here.
25:54It's been a good 20 minutes for Leeds.
25:56The only problems they've really had is, I think, passes like that.
25:59There's another moment there where playing in their own half caused them problems,
26:07but they have settled down.
26:14Here's Tanaka.
26:15That's better, going forward, punching it through the lines.
26:20James, Gabriel to take on this time,
26:23and Walshman gets his cross in,
26:24and Moriah had to fling himself at it,
26:28going in for it as he was with Nyonto.
26:30He's hurt himself, the goalkeeper.
26:32Yeah, he's a lot better from Daniel James.
26:33This is what I wanted from him the first two times he got it.
26:36This time he gets Gabriel.
26:38Goals outside him,
26:39comes some really dangerous crossing.
26:41It's exactly the way you'd want, Nyonto.
26:47It's a good run.
26:47And then James with another crack at the Premier League.
26:55Been in it now with three different teams.
26:58Get on with it.
27:24There's Rice who shows for it.
27:28He's got the ball at his feet as well then there, Gary.
27:35He's telling everyone to calm down.
27:37There's no one panicking.
27:46It's a good shot from that.
27:48Saliba.
27:50There is Winter trying to fight off Pascal Strauch.
27:58I just think of Arsenal in that first five minutes of the game
28:01where they had some real joy was when they were playing quickly.
28:04And then they come off it quite a bit
28:05and they start to play at a different tempo.
28:06And I call this tempo when you're 2-0 up.
28:09If you're 2-0 up, you can play like this.
28:11Draw leads out, no problem.
28:12But I think when you're at home against a team
28:14that you're expected to beat,
28:16keep the tempo high.
28:18Particularly in possession.
28:19And they don't.
28:23Predictable.
28:23Just into a loss of that early initiative.
28:38It happens here quite a bit.
28:41I mean, there's definitely patience.
28:42I get that.
28:43You're playing against the pack defence.
28:44But what the opposition team don't want
28:46is you're playing, you know, with rhythm and tempo.
28:54There's Jo Perez.
28:56Cleared by Chiro Roden.
28:58Back in North London, the former Spurs defender.
29:01Did win both of the North London derbies he played in.
29:04Although they were fleeting appearances
29:05as a substitute in both.
29:07Arsenal have certainly invested in the talent
29:17to keep the momentum going.
29:19In situations like this,
29:21it is at the top end of the pitch
29:22where they've looked to make a difference.
29:25And will continue to do so with Eze's arrival.
29:32There's Bukayo Saka.
29:34Odegaard clipping one across towards Madweke.
29:36He makes nothing of the header.
29:40It was at this ground that Noni Madweke scored
29:43his first Premier League goal for Chelsea
29:45in a 3-1 defeat.
29:52Preferred today to Gabriel Martinelli
29:55who scored twice in a victory against Leeds
29:57four seasons ago.
29:59At the longest serving outside signing
30:02in the current Arsenal squad.
30:03He's just struggling to form a little bit
30:06at the moment.
30:07Yeah.
30:09And I like him.
30:10I think he's alive, Wyatt.
30:12Certainly he's positive.
30:14And he's at his best.
30:16Just having a tough time.
30:19Good option to have
30:20if it continues to be a struggle
30:22to break down the Leeds defence.
30:23Here's Vogel.
30:38Here's Vogel.
30:45Now Stroke.
30:47Headed back by Gruev.
30:54It was a little bit of an area of uncertainty.
30:57Gabriel Goodmanson.
31:09Now Gruev.
31:16This is Stroke.
31:17Here's Roden.
31:30Put in by James.
31:32Not for Vogel.
31:32Another injury issue
31:45for Martin Odegaard.
31:48Is this a hangover
31:49from the challenge before, maybe?
31:51He's shoulder he was complaining
32:04about the last time, but
32:05this time
32:07the issue appears to be
32:09somewhere on that
32:09right leg,
32:11around about the shin area.
32:13A couple of options here.
32:14Ethan Wanneri,
32:15who made his debut for Arsenal
32:17as a 15-year-old.
32:20And it could be the same
32:21for Max Daumann,
32:23although he wouldn't be
32:24Arsenal's youngest player
32:26because if he was to come on,
32:28Wanneri would still have been
32:2953 days younger
32:32when he made his debut.
32:33Yeah, it's a big vote of confidence,
32:34Wanneri,
32:35because he could have gone
32:35Marino as well,
32:36could have gone Trossard.
32:37Three or four options
32:38to go in there
32:39instead of the captain.
32:41This is the
32:49time just lands there.
32:54That happened about 15 minutes ago.
32:58It's just not recovered from it.
32:59It'll be a grievous blow
33:05to lose their captain
33:07on his 200th game
33:09for Arsenal,
33:10but it was a little
33:11thumbs-up signal there
33:12to Mikel Arteta,
33:13which suggests
33:16he thinks he'll be OK.
33:17Yeah, the real problem
33:27for Arsenal,
33:28the whole team
33:29is they haven't had a shot yet
33:30on the target.
33:33They need to have had one.
33:37Good save from Raya.
33:38Still feeling some
33:46discomfort.
33:49Not enough, he seems,
33:50to think to rule him
33:51out of the rest of the game.
34:02Odegaard will be
34:03a good influence,
34:04I'm sure,
34:04for Max Dowman,
34:06having been something
34:07of a wonder kid himself.
34:08And he'll just take
34:13his responsibility
34:14as captain seriously.
34:18He's a captain
34:19who inspires by example.
34:23He's now achieved
34:24as many wins
34:25as captain
34:26in the Premier League
34:26for Arsenal
34:26as Patrick Vieira did.
34:30Here's Ricciardo Calafiore
34:32on the surge
34:33forward for Arsenal,
34:34allowed to come a long way
34:35before Gruer
34:36went to engage with him.
34:38What's this disappointing?
34:42I don't know if you're it.
34:44Half an hour in,
34:45this was a big question
34:46about Arsenal today.
34:47Was I think
34:47going to have that spark
34:48up front in attack?
34:50And he's watching
34:50his team.
34:52He's not quite
34:53seeing it.
34:54Arsenal still remains.
34:55for the teams watching this
34:58will realise that
35:00Arsenal don't really break
35:01packed defences down easily.
35:06Daniel Farka's defence
35:07is not to be broken down
35:08easily on the evidence
35:09of what we've seen so far.
35:12We've served to quieten
35:13a crowd that came in
35:14with the normal excitement
35:15that you get
35:16before a first home game
35:18of the season,
35:19which was then intensified
35:20by the announcement
35:22about Eze signing.
35:32Yeah, it was a spectacular
35:33piece of business
35:34from Arsenal
35:35just to sort of nip in,
35:37steal Eze away
35:38from Spurs
35:38that quickly.
35:39The move that became
35:46ever more urgent
35:47with Havertz's injury.
35:51Here's Gabriel.
35:57Calafiore.
35:58Madweke goes on ahead
35:59although Roden
36:00had followed him.
36:01It's better for Madweke
36:02because the front three
36:02are quite static.
36:03Saka's just stood out here.
36:04Jokeres isn't doing
36:05too much in the middle
36:06and Madweke's just hanging
36:08out on that left-hand side
36:09but he needs to get at
36:09his full-back.
36:12James comes back
36:13in front of his full-back
36:14that time to block the cross.
36:17And here is James.
36:19Pirou trying to return it to him
36:20but he didn't need
36:22to have problems
36:22just holding onto it
36:23when they're headquartered back.
36:31The Arsenal fans
36:32just get little wrestlers
36:33just want a bit more
36:34urgency in the game.
36:34here's Bukayo Saka
36:39escape from Nyonto
36:42Goodman Sanu
36:44didn't quite have the legs
36:45to run out
36:45to try and somehow
36:48protect it
36:49but Timber joins in
36:50there with Saka
36:51here's Odegaard
36:55could have played it
36:57into Zubamendi's feet
36:58there Odegaard
36:59refuses the pass
37:00to end up going back.
37:03Oh that's the keeper
37:03I'm sure
37:04if you look back there
37:05there's a pass
37:05into Zubamendi.
37:06this is the example
37:19of the win it back here
37:21high up the pitch
37:21and you watch Odegaard
37:22now that passing
37:23to Zubamendi
37:24there in the box
37:24he's just got to
37:25stick that in there.
37:28It just feels a bit
37:29safe to you at the moment.
37:30Yeah they're too guilty
37:31of overkill on possession
37:35thinking about not giving it away
37:36not taking risks
37:37not expressing themselves
37:38we know they can do this
37:42as I said before
37:43you do this at 2-0 up
37:45it's better from Calafiore.
37:48Calafiore's run
37:49it deflected across
37:50and Roden knew
37:51that he couldn't afford
37:52to take any chances
37:53there from the bounce
37:54so Calafiore will
37:57show plenty of interest
37:59in this
37:59it was how he got his goal
38:01last weekend
38:03and Declan Rice
38:05who took back
38:05corner to take this one.
38:08Yeah we know Arsenal
38:09thrive in these
38:11situations
38:12very much the best.
38:17And Leeds last season
38:19had problems
38:19defending set pieces
38:21which was an issue
38:21they were
38:22looking to urgently address.
38:27Salih is in that position
38:29that he was last week
38:30he looks like he's going to go
38:30and sit in under the keeper
38:31under Lucas Perry
38:32right now there.
38:34Swung in
38:35I want to take it up
38:36in the back of the net.
38:41Well Timba
38:42from the Arsenal perspective
38:44got a touch on it
38:46was it the final touch
38:47but he got in the thick of it
38:49and Arsenal
38:50from their usual
38:52productive route
38:53get the lead.
38:55Well they're experts
38:55at corners
38:59this team
39:00the delivery is fantastic
39:03the runs are great
39:04they think they're going to score
39:07I think if you watch
39:08Stroik for Leeds
39:09the number six
39:09he lets those Arsenal players
39:11run past him
39:11and there's no Arsenal players
39:13left at the back
39:14just watching the six
39:15they all go past him
39:16he's got to go in there
39:17quicker with them
39:18and he ends up being late
39:19by just a yard
39:21and Timba
39:22the delivery is spectacular
39:24it's amazing
39:25the goalkeeper
39:25can't come for that
39:26with bodies all in and around him
39:28and it's just a little glance
39:31same old same old
39:36Arsenal struggling to break
39:38a team down
39:38but
39:39that man
39:40has just seen his team
39:42go 1-0 up
39:43in the most predictable way
39:45Arsenal playing to their strengths
39:54and Leeds falling victim
39:55to their weakness again
39:57I can understand Stroik
40:07just sitting back a little bit
40:08if there were a couple of Arsenal players
40:09that had hung round the back
40:10but they hadn't
40:11and they'd all run past him
40:12so he may as well have just gone in there
40:14and committed
40:14and I think if he had
40:16he may have got his head on it
40:18Turian Timbers
40:25second Premier League goal
40:27second here
40:28the one was against
40:29Manchester United
40:31last December
40:32he emerged through the crowd
40:38to get his head on it
40:39and the Leeds found themselves
40:41unable to cope
40:42here's the Arsenal goal scorer
40:57here's Zubamendi
41:09now Saliba
41:12now Zubamendi
41:27now Zubamendi
41:39Gruef
41:52is Roden
42:04it's a challenging situation
42:06for Leeds
42:06about how they're going to
42:07shift themselves up the pitch
42:09because they're trying to play out
42:10from the back
42:10they've obviously got three
42:11diminutive players up front
42:13they're not target men
42:14as it were
42:15so you have to try and play through
42:17that's difficult
42:19Zubamendi
42:22trying to slot it through there
42:23for Odegaard
42:24it was
42:24Roden who stepped in
42:26back from Calafiore
42:35here's
42:35Gabriel
42:37he's
42:40okay
42:41his delivery
42:41met by Roden
42:42Zubamendi
42:45going for the spectacular
42:46it's as though Odegaard's
42:54day is done
42:55it was always going to be
42:57doubtful that he could carry on
42:58obviously the injury occurred
42:5915 minutes before he went down
43:01he's looking up in the air
43:08a little disappointed
43:09shaking the head
43:09well they don't want to take
43:12any chances
43:13with a trip to
43:14Anfield
43:15looming
43:16they would prefer
43:21to wrap Odegaard
43:23in cotton wool
43:23I'm sure
43:24Juan Eri
43:25who
43:26appeared as a 15 year old
43:29was given a little bit of a break
43:30from the limelight
43:31really started to establish himself more
43:33last season
43:35contributed nine goals
43:40along the way
43:42had to slot in really for Saka
43:45last season
43:46when he had a prolonged spell out
43:48with injury
43:49but he's operating from a more central position
43:52having come on now for Odegaard
43:54an ambition to see
43:56if he can just bring a spark in there
43:57for Arsenal
43:58cooking the game up
43:59here's Gabriel
44:17it's one thing about Arsenal
44:41you can never complain about their ability to get back and recover
44:46but their wide players
44:47their midfield players
44:48their forward
44:48they sprint back
44:49every single one of them
44:50I won't say that that's a given
44:52and it should happen
44:53but to get a group of players
44:54to do that every single time
44:55week in week out
44:56I think it's as easy as it looks
44:59particularly forward players
45:00and Arsenal do it
45:01he scored freely in the championship
45:24waiting to follow that up in the Premier League now
45:27I think it actually is something that I've seen in the first couple of weeks
45:44I know teams have to set these things up
45:46every free kick seems to be taking a stupid amount of time
45:51and all that weight and it comes to that
45:53Stack being put under pressure by Nadweke
45:58who's persevering seemed to have paid off
46:00but the referee blew the whistle
46:02to pull it back
46:04there wasn't too much in it
46:09Stack just got himself in a bit of a mess
46:12the ball was bouncing
46:13and he couldn't get a hold of it quickly enough
46:14and a little bit maybe on the shoulder
46:17it's generous isn't it
46:21it is yeah
46:22because he lets go
46:22I mean there's no way that would have pulled him round
46:24he's made a mess of it
46:26the United midfield player
46:29here's Goodman
46:39I think Leeds played really well on Monday night
46:45but I think they have to try and find a different way of playing away from home
46:48because you're playing your way through teams away from home
46:52it's going to be very difficult
46:53and they're a little bit confused at the moment out there
46:57about how they're going to get into the game
46:58because long balls
46:59Saliba and Gabriel swallow them up
47:02which means they can't get out
47:05Saka affected the tackle
47:09but it ran in Leeds favour
47:10here's Tanaka
47:12Bogle's made a run through the middle
47:13James had stayed out wide
47:15but he's looked the other way
47:16this is the first time actually
47:20I can think that they've got the whole team
47:21in the Arsenal half of the pitch
47:23with control of the ball
47:24so they can start to play the football a little bit
47:27in this position
47:27stack
47:32well he is settling into this league
47:49Jocheres
47:49but a lot of what he's done so far has gone astray
47:53yeah it's been a struggle
47:54and I thought he showed glimpses last week
47:56I know that he didn't produce anything in the game against United
47:59but I thought De Ligt marked him brilliantly
48:01and obviously playing at Old Trafford's a tough game
48:04a bit more concerned about today
48:06because they were very early in his career
48:10but you can't let that negativity spiral build
48:12well the pressure's on him
48:14people are looking to him to score that
48:1620 goals that will take Arsenal to the title
48:19and the scrutiny will be great
48:22if it continues like this
48:24he needs a goal
48:26he'd score prolifically in Portugal
48:33got a couple on his debut
48:34it's not just the scoring is it
48:38it's the actual general play
48:39it's
48:40does he look like he's sort of
48:42neat in his work
48:44and tidy
48:44and bringing people into play
48:46got good awareness around him
48:47he just looks a little bit scruffy
48:49in his first game and a half
48:52in his first game and a half
48:52in his first game and a half
49:19here's Strauch
49:30the direct route hasn't really served
49:44the purpose for Leeds so far
49:46no and that's the problem they've got
49:47that's why I called them confused
49:49a few minutes ago
49:51because you've got James Nianto
49:52and Perrault up top
49:53who basically can't hit from distance
49:54so then you've got to try and
49:56work your way through a very good
49:57Arsenal press which is
49:58equally as difficult
49:59and that's the problem and conundrum
50:01that he'll have to solve at half time
50:02and not just at half time
50:03but throughout this season
50:04Daniel Farker
50:05he's got to find a way
50:06away from home
50:07and he can't be as dominant in possession
50:10to get some control of the game
50:12further up the pitch
50:13you have to have forwards
50:15that can hold the ball up
50:16and midfield players
50:17who can take the ball
50:18and she'll just get
50:21pinned back
50:23well he does have the option
50:27of the Swiss international
50:28Noah Okafor
50:29who only joined this week
50:30on the bench
50:31he can play across the forward line
50:34three minutes of stoppage time
50:37added on
50:38in this first half
50:39back by Timba
50:47here's Saka
50:49Zubomende
50:55nice touch from Rice
51:05here's Warneri
51:06Gurev digging in
51:09but then giving it away
51:10slotted through by Timba
51:12Saka
51:13he made that
51:17Arsenal putting themselves
51:24in a position of greater comfort
51:26before half time
51:28I think Leeds get caught
51:31I think Declan Rice
51:33presses really well in midfield
51:37it's a really good time to score a goal
51:43Saka he had a quiet first half
51:45but he could never
51:46truly keep him quiet
51:48you always know
51:49there is a massive spark
51:51this time
51:52but you look at
51:54this play
51:55Leeds get the ball back
51:56and then Declan Rice's reaction
51:59on transition
51:59is brilliant
52:00great pass forward
52:02and you think he's going to play it across
52:03to Jokeres
52:04who can get his first goal
52:06for the club
52:06but no
52:07he just belts it
52:09with his right foot
52:11and it's over the shoulder of Perry
52:13before he even knows it
52:15it's a tight angle
52:18and you don't expect it
52:20and the goalkeeper certainly didn't expect it
52:23it's a ferocious strike
52:25his third goal
52:29against Leeds
52:31his first one
52:32on home territory
52:33Arsenal's anxieties considerably eased
52:41in the last of the minutes of this half
52:44I was about to say that Mikel Arteta
52:47I said what Daniel Farka made
52:48want to be talking to his players
52:50about a hard time
52:51and I was thinking
52:52that Mikel Arteta would want more spark
52:54more urgency
52:55quicker passes forward
52:57more risk in the final third
52:58and we've just seen what they can do
53:00when they play forward
53:01and in behind
53:02you've got good runners
53:03he's made a good run actually
53:06Saka could have played it across to him
53:08but what a goal
53:10did have injury issues last season
53:14did Bukayo Saka
53:15that's his second Premier League goal
53:17since November
53:19Rice with the switch
53:24Rice's work on the goal was brilliant
53:28I talked before about Arsenal
53:29about when they give the ball away
53:31the reaction of everybody in the team
53:32it really is fantastic
53:33that's why they're so good defensively
53:36not just because of the centre backs
53:38and the goalkeeper
53:39just because of the general approach
53:42and mentality
53:43towards not giving a goal away
53:45and not letting the team
53:46the other team play
