00:00All right, it is a Patriots Monday, so let's talk to a Patriot.
00:03We have Hunter Henry joining us right now,
00:05and Hunter Henry is brought to you by Drains by James,
00:08Eastern Mass's top provider of drain and sewer cleaning and repair,
00:12by Shaw's and Star Market, go shopping, get rewarded,
00:15and by Verizon, the New England Patriots, powered by Verizon 5G.
00:20Hunter, no Jones today, so it's Keith and Rob Bradford.
00:22How are you, sir?
00:24Good. How are you guys?
00:25Doing pretty well.
00:26Roster cut down day down to 53 tomorrow afternoon.
00:32What is it like each year around this time where you've been practicing,
00:3690 guys on the field, and then you know you're just a day or two away
00:39from whittling all the way down to 53?
00:44Yeah, you know, it is the tough part of our business.
00:49You know, when you're getting rid of almost, you know, 37, 40 guys,
00:53lose a job, you know, time's up by 32.
00:58There's, you know, a lot of guys around the league that have competed hard
01:02and done a lot of good things, and, you know, this is the sad part of the business.
01:06You know, you make, you know, relationships, friendships, whatever it is,
01:10and then, you know, it's tough to see guys kind of go through that.
01:13But the nature of it, man, and it is definitely a tough part of it.
01:18How do you find out about some of the cuts?
01:21Is it, like, from Adam Schefter, like a lot of us, or is it, you know,
01:25the coaches give you guys a heads up, or how is that communicated to you?
01:30Sometimes you find out directly from the guys, or, you know,
01:33sometimes you find out online.
01:35Just depends on kind of what's going on.
01:40I don't know.
01:40Well, Hunter, here's a cliche question,
01:43and probably I should never begin a question by saying it's a cliche question,
01:46but it is a cliche question.
01:48So how does this feel 365 days ago?
01:51How does this feel, this team, this dynamic, this vibe, all of it,
01:55how does it feel different from 365 days ago?
01:59It's a new team, man.
02:01Every year is a new year, so I don't like to compare to the past.
02:05I don't like to compare to the future.
02:07But, you know, we're working hard.
02:09We're doing a lot of good things, a lot of things we're going to continue to improve on,
02:12and I'm excited to kind of just continue to go out there, compete, get ready to go.
02:17Yeah, so I'm excited, man, but I'm not going to compare from what it was, man.
02:22Just focus on what we got going on.
02:24How do you feel like the offense has been performing throughout camp?
02:27I think today is practice 20.
02:30Obviously, you had a few games, you know, that you've had a chance to play,
02:33a couple joint practices as well.
02:34But overall, where the offense is at, how are you feeling?
02:38I feel good, man.
02:40I think it's the same thing I just said, man.
02:44You know, we've had a lot of practices under our belt, including the spring.
02:49You know, feeling good, gelling together, coming together.
02:52We do some good things, some things we've got to continue to improve on.
02:56But, you know, we're excited to go out there and compete.
02:58And, you know, the game's around the corner.
02:59And we're going to be ready to go out there and play another team.
03:04Hunter, what would this version of Hunter Henry tell the version of Hunter Henry
03:10that first came into the league?
03:11In other words, all the lessons that you learned about heading into a season,
03:15all the things that, you know, we – when we were young,
03:18we think maybe we haven't all figured out.
03:20And I'm not saying you thought that, but a lot of us thought –
03:23we all haven't figured out.
03:25It's going to be easy.
03:26And then we realize you go into a season and all the excitement wears off.
03:30You have to do this.
03:31You have to do that.
03:32What would you tell a younger version of yourself?
03:37Not that I probably did this when I was young,
03:39but it's just you can't ride the highs.
03:40You can't ride the lows.
03:42You've got to stay as consistent as you can.
03:45Because, you know, you win a few games.
03:48You can't ride that.
03:49You've got to continue to go to work and kind of be that same person.
03:52And, you know, you lose a few games.
03:54You just can't be in the dumps and feel like you're never going to get out of it.
03:58You just got to – you can't ride it.
04:00You've got to stay as consistent as you can be.
04:02A lot of rookies on the offensive side of the ball, you know,
04:05from the line with Will Campbell and Wilson
04:08and obviously you have Williams and Henderson.
04:11What's it been like in the huddle with some of those guys
04:13that are brand new to the league?
04:16It's been good, man.
04:18You know, they bring a lot of energy.
04:19A lot of, you know, just that young spirit to the huddle that we need, man.
04:26You know, a lot of talent as well.
04:28So excited to, you know, get out there and, like,
04:31actually compete in a real game with these guys.
04:33And, you know, I know they'll be fired up.
04:35So as a quick aside, Hunter, I just drove back from Yankee Stadium.
04:39Are you a baseball fan or no?
04:41I wouldn't say I'm the biggest one, but –
04:45No.
04:46So I guess you're not getting a baseball –
04:48I guess you're not getting a baseball isn't a boring tattoo
04:50if you win the Super Bowl.
04:51No, he's not.
04:51But anyway, I do – I asked Marvin Harrison Jr. this a couple years ago,
04:55and I think it's a pertinent question.
04:57Which is more difficult in your mind,
05:00hitting a home run or catching a touchdown pass?
05:04Hitting a home run for sure.
05:06Oh!
05:06Really?
05:07Oh, like Keefe.
05:08And, like, an MLB pitcher?
05:11Yeah, yeah.
05:12Oh, yeah, definitely more difficult.
05:13Oh, for sure.
05:14Hitting a home run, I don't even know if I can get a hit.
05:17Okay, making contact against an MLB pitcher or catching a touchdown pass.
05:23You've got to make contact.
05:24It's the actual act of, you know, hitting it.
05:29I like getting an actual hit with fielders in there.
05:31I think I can make contact.
05:32Well, I guess what I'm saying is it's not necessarily for you,
05:35but for the person who's in the middle of it, right?
05:38The person whose job it is to do.
05:41Hitting a, you know, so I'm trying to build you up.
05:44I'm like saying, hey, listen, catching a touchdown pass is not easy.
05:47Yeah, but if you scheme it up just right, you can be wide open and just, like,
05:50just catch it.
05:50I'm trying to give the guy credit.
05:52I mean, some of his touchdowns he's caught are very tough.
05:54Some of them aren't.
05:55I'm not saying it's easy, but hitting a homer in the MLB, that's definitely harder.
06:04All right.
06:04That's what Marvin Harrison Jr. said.
06:06I'm checking that.
06:06It's two for two.
06:07Oh, there you go.
06:08Are you guys fully turning your attention to the Raiders,
06:11or is there still some, like, you know, cleaning up stuff from the preseason
06:15in the last couple of weeks first?
06:17No, still cleaning up stuff, man.
06:19Still competing against our guys trying to get better.
06:22So, you know, we'll start locking in a little bit more on them
06:25as the game approaches.
06:27All right.
06:27He's a Patriots tight end.
06:29Hunter Henry joins us every Monday on a Patriots Monday.
06:32Thanks for the time today, and we'll talk to you next week
06:34for week one of the season.
06:37All right, fellas.
06:38Appreciate you.
06:39Thanks, Hunter.
06:40Thank you very much.
06:40Yeah, I think, again, catching a touchdown when there's, like, you know,
06:46a safety and, like, a corner in your face or, like, a linebacker about to hit you,
06:50but that is as tough as it gets.
06:52Here's a – maybe this is a better question.
06:55Which gives you more of an adrenaline rush, catching a touchdown
07:00or hitting a home run?
07:01That's a soccer thing, though.
07:02Oh, you should have twisted the – get him back on the air.
07:04Get him back on.
07:05Can you call him back?
07:06We have a follow-up for Hunter.
07:07Yeah.
07:08Ooh, more of an adrenaline rush.
07:09Because, as you're talking about it, because, you know, the work that –
07:13this is why football players, you have that one week, that one moment.
07:16That's it.
07:17It's the grind to go down the field.
07:18It happens so few times.
07:20All of a sudden, you get in the end zone, and you can see how happy they are.
07:24That's true.
07:24And you hit a home run.
07:25Don't you dare bat flip.
07:27Don't you dare celebrate.
07:28Don't.
07:28Oh, the Roman Anthony little toss aside.
07:30Right.
07:31Oh, that's awesome.
07:32So that's the thing.
07:32I'm going to ask Roman Anthony, which I'll ask a question of him.
07:35Well, some of these guys probably, you know, recently played high school football, I'm guessing.
07:39That's what – I thought – I'm kind of surprised he didn't play.
07:42Well, as a southern guy, too, you'd think baseball, football would be the two things.
07:46He's like, no.
07:47Hey, kids, play two sports.
07:48He was very polite about it, though, wasn't he?
07:50Are you a baseball fan?
07:51I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fan.
07:52Yeah, not at all.
07:53That's code for – that's code for – I'm going to ask you about Brian Bayo's ERA.
07:57Name two players.
07:59I'm out.
08:00I'm out.
08:01But I like that question, the adrenaline rush.
08:03There's nothing like a good adrenaline.
08:04So I think part of that would be, where is it?
08:06If you hit a home run at Yankee Stadium as a member of the Red Sox, that's a lot of adrenaline.
08:10You hit one in, like, the Tropicana Field.
08:12You're like, eh, whatever.
08:13Oh, no.
08:13I don't think it's whatever.
08:14Tropicana Field, home run?
08:16Diamond doesn't.
08:16Remember when Tristan Casas hit his first home run and the guy who's in the stands caught it?
08:20He wouldn't give the ball back.
08:20He wouldn't give the ball back?
08:21And they're like, who are you here with?
08:22He's like, no one.
08:23No, I'm just hanging out.
08:25I drove from Orlando to hang out.
08:26I didn't even know there was a baseball game going on.
08:27Yeah, he's like, I don't like either team.
08:30I'm from, like, Michigan.
08:31Remember, that guy was bizarre.
08:32Oh, no, I wouldn't believe me.
08:33It was the most listened to podcast I did that entire year.
08:35Wait, you had that guy on?
08:37Yeah, I ran out and interviewed him.
08:39It was great.
08:41Whatever happened to that?
08:42Did he get the ball?
08:42Whatever happened to the guy?
08:43No, I don't care about the guy.
08:44Whatever happened to the ball?
08:45Did Casas get it?
08:46No, he got it back.
08:47Oh, okay.
08:47Because the guy didn't realize the firestorm that was coming.
08:51So ultimately, he got it.
08:52Did he have to, like, bribe him to get it back?
08:55Did Casas have to, like, do you?
08:56Yeah, well, that's usually what they do.
08:57That's how it works, yeah.
08:58I mean, it always, that's how it works.
09:00So he was just trying to run up the price.
09:02No.
09:03Well, I think initially he was, but then I think he was just oblivious.
09:06He was oblivious in a lot of ways.
09:09I guess so.
09:10Yeah.
09:10I mean, if you got a baseball at a game, I'm not saying that's not cool,
09:13but if the team was like, hey, can we get that?
09:16I'd be like, sure.
09:16Like, unless it's, you know, Barry Bonds' 780th homer, I'm like,
09:21I can retire off of this.
09:22But by the way, this could only happen to Tropicana Field,
09:25where there was literally nobody around this guy just sitting there
09:29singing Fire in the Mountain, barely knowing where he is.
09:32You know, and the ball drops.
09:33Oh, this ball?
09:34What is that?
09:35Oh, here you go.
09:36And they're like, this is a historic moment, a momentous occasion.
09:39Yeah.
09:40They're like, that's the first of what could be 20 home runs in the career
09:44of Tristan Cosby.
09:45There you go.
09:46But, yeah, but to come back.
09:48You're losing value by the minute.
09:50The emotion of him, I would say this.
09:53Yeah.
09:53The emotion to answer, I was going to say.
09:55Your wrong question.
09:56Your revised question.
09:57My revised question.
09:58So Hunter Henry would say, oh, I don't know if he would say it,
10:02but this is how he feels.
10:04He didn't.
10:04Mike Vrabel told me not to tell, to have people say how they feel, right?
10:09He also said there's rats in the building.
10:10Right, there are rats in the buildings, but also he can only speak for ourselves.
10:13But I will speak for Hunter Henry and saying the adrenaline rush you get
10:16for catching a touchdown pass is greater than hitting a home run.
10:20Right?
10:21Have you done both?
10:23I've done neither.
10:24Okay.
10:24No, I've hit a home run.
10:26In high school, I've done both.
10:27Oh, I mean, you've got many a touchdown pass.
10:29I would say hitting a home run is cooler.
10:33Maybe it's because I had less home runs than touchdowns.
10:35This is good.
10:36And this is high school.
10:36Yeah.
10:36But, like, I would say that is, like, pretty sweet.
10:39But you know the life of catching a touchdown pass.
10:42Yes, at the high school level.
10:44Yeah.
10:45Oh, not in the college?
10:45No, I didn't catch any touchdowns in college.
10:47No, you weren't, like, the slot receiver?
10:48No?
10:49That was terrible.
10:49No?
10:50We had really good upperclassmen.
10:53That's like, you know, the wideout room was loaded.
10:57Which actually is true, but then we're not going to go down that road.
10:59Which was better?
11:00The home run.
11:01No, where did you go, gang?
11:03Hobart.
11:03Yeah, which was better, the wideout room for the Patriots or Hobart?
11:06Oh, Hobart.
11:07Oh, right.
11:07Oh, my God, yeah.
11:08I could barely get on the field.
11:10Of course, it was better there.
11:12But you mentioned bat flips.
11:14The Roman Anthony little, like, I don't even know what you call that.
11:16It's not a full flip.
11:18It's more of just, like, a toss.
11:19Yeah.
11:19Sick.
11:20It shows.
11:20And by the way, you probably can hear on WEI Afternoons, Roman Anthony has credited Fitzy
11:25with changing his swing path.
11:27So, that got, Fitzy was under a lot of hot water for that.
11:31Oh, really?
11:31Yeah, Fitzy got a lot of blowback for saying that he should tweak his, uh...
11:35Why?
11:36Well, because everybody was like, what are you talking about?
11:39Because he had homered the night before.
11:40And then Fitzy's like, they need more power out of Roman Anthony, which I didn't think
11:43it was that wild of a take.
11:44And then he homered the next night as well.
11:47And then he later said he tweaked his swing.
11:48Didn't he?
11:49Yeah, he did tweak his swing.
11:51And also, yesterday, and again, I gave them the audio of this, and I can give you guys
11:54the audio of it as well.
11:55Roman Anthony thanking Fitzy for the swing path.
11:58That's pretty good.
