00:48Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
01:05On Sunday, the National Bolivarian Malaysian Enlistment Day continued on its second day in Venezuela as part of the Great National Plan for Sovereignty and Peace Simon Bolivar.
01:15Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called for this action of unity in the face of recent U.S. threats and military deployment in the Caribbean.
01:24Registration points included the 15,751 military headquarters, BolĂvar squares, and popular bases distributed throughout the territory.
01:34The campaign's goal is to reinforce the country's security infrastructure and reaffirm the Venezuelan people's dedication to safeguarding peace and resisting foreign interference that endangers the well-being of its citizens.
01:53In Venezuela, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said military enlistment equals rejection of U.S. imperialism and aggression because national sovereignty is what matters.
02:06My commander-in-chief, President Nicolás Maduro has put the homeland at the center, beyond political ideologies, political party difference, beyond our difference as human beings.
02:22The homeland, the homeland, come first.
02:26It is what has given us the oxygen to breathe. It is what gives us the land to produce. There is, in a broad sense, country come first.
02:37So that the call to enlist made by our commander-in-chief is not only to join the Bolivarian militia, which is already important in itself, but it is also about saying no to imperialism, no to military aggression,
02:52no to arrogancy and haughtiness, no to rudeness, no to the vulgarity of U.S. imperialism against the people of Venezuela, against the legitimacy of its institutions and the political and military leadership of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
03:11In this context, in Venezuela, hundreds of motorcyclists show up for enlistment in a large convoy in defense of national sovereignty in response to threats from the United States against the country.
03:23Motorcyclists from the city of Caracas rode in a caravan to reiterate their support for President Nicolás Maduro and the Bolivarian Revolution to reaffirm their commitment to defending the sovereignty and self-determination of the Venezuelan people
03:39versus United States' interventionist policies against the country.
03:42This demonstration reflects the desire of the citizenry to maintain peace and stability in the country and to avoid jeopardizing the zone of peace, declaring Latin America and the Caribbean.
03:54Earlier, on this important day of mobilization and call to arms for the Bolivarian militia, President Nicolás Maduro emphasized that the territorial force, together with combat units,
04:06reserve soldiers and citizens make up a defense system that will guarantee territorial integrity.
04:18Also in eastern Venezuela's Sucre State, fishermen join the national enlistment campaign in support of President Nicolás Maduro and in defense of the country's sovereignty.
04:28Also, it is carried out a census in the town of Rio Caribe to register dozens of boatmen and fishermen taking part in a call to reject interventionist actions by far-right groups and the United States,
04:40which aims to create instability along Venezuela's coast.
04:43In other information, Colombian President Gustavo Petro assured that the government will stand by the families of the police officers' mother in Amalfi and reaffirm his commitment to peace with illegal armed groups.
05:02During the President's visit to the Central Police Hospital in Bogota, he met with officers injured in the attack against a police helicopter in the Amalfi region in the Department of Antioquia,
05:14as well as against an aviation school in Cali, where the simultaneous attacks perpetrated by rebel groups left 19 people dead and dozens injured.
05:24And Haiti could remain without power for the residents to fail to provide a solution.
05:39The residents of Port-au-Prince have been without power since June 17, after they forced the closure of the power plant.
05:47Protesters are now demanding that the government strengthen security in the country,
05:53all this occurs as accusations of complicity with armed groups against the authorities are fueling popular anger.
06:00The demonstration has promised to assess the damage and begin repairs, but this could take as long as six months.
06:13And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
