00:00In the first week of our 21-day meditation experience, you discovered that gratitude
00:14is more than counting your blessings and feeling fortunate.
00:21Gratitude is more than an emotion too.
00:25It opens the way for grace.
00:28Now in our second week together, we will deepen your understanding by focusing on the mind-body
00:36connection.
00:39From the brain's perspective, there are only two kinds of input, positive and negative.
00:48Positive experiences lead to increased well-being and health.
00:53Positive input leads to decreased well-being and higher risk for disease.
01:01Gratitude is a powerful form of positive input.
01:05It can generate new brain cells and open new pathways.
01:12These new pathways give us the physical basis for seeing and feeling the state of grace,
01:18which is our goal.
01:22So, by activating the mind-body connection, our gratitude can shift hostility, stress and
01:29depression into positive psychological states such as compassion and empathy.
01:39Even the genetic activity of grateful people shifts in a positive direction, including anti-aging.
01:50This gives us a sound foundation for making the mind-body connection stronger, while at the same time,
01:57turning grace into a physical state the body participates in.
02:03A thankful thought doesn't just remain in your head.
02:08Messenger molecules transmit every thought, feeling and sensation to the body's hundred trillion
02:15cells.
02:16We want to keep the flow going, which is one of the benefits of meditation.
02:23Your body can benefit from extended gratitude, such as daily journaling, because you are strongly
02:30focusing on the kind of changes you want in your life.
02:37The gifts of grace depend on only one thing, your awareness.
02:44If you focus your awareness on positive changes, the entire mind-body system is put on notice.
02:52And nature supports what you want.
02:57When you ask your arm to move, it happens automatically.
03:02In the world's wisdom traditions, asking nature to bring you greater health and well-being should
03:10be just as automatic.
03:14The connection is already there, waiting to be used.
03:18This will be our goal in week two, to get your mind and body moving faster in the right direction.
03:29Gratitude is like a force of nature, and grace is a state that can benefit body and mind together.
03:43As we prepare to meditate together, let's take a moment to consider our centering thought.
03:52Every thankful moment makes me healthier.
03:58Every thankful moment makes me healthier.
04:05Now let's prepare for our meditation.
04:08Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.
04:14Begin to be aware of your breath, and just breathe slowly and deeply.
04:23With each breath, allow yourself to become more deeply relaxed.
04:32Now, gently introduce the mantra, Shara Vanaya.
04:41This mantra opens our mind and body to the nurturing support of nature.
04:48As you repeat the mantra, feel your body and mind absorb the beneficial influence of the universe.
04:57Repeat it silently to yourself.
05:02Shara Vanaya.
05:18With each repetition, feel your body, mind and spirit open and receive just a little more.
05:30Whenever you find yourself distracted by thoughts, noises or physical sensations, simply return
05:37your attention to silently repeating the mantra.
05:42Shara Vanaya.
05:47Shara Vanaya.
05:53Please continue with your meditation.
06:00I'll mind the time, and when it's time to end, you'll hear me ring a soft bell.
06:08Shara Vanaya.
06:15Shara Vanaya.
06:17Shara Vanaya.
