00:00The APY Lands Board has reappointed Richard King as General Manager several times since
00:082015, 10 years marked by legal battles and an Ombudsman investigation.
00:13But it was his reappointment last year that drew complaints of a flawed board recruitment
00:18process for the high-paying position, and prompted Aboriginal Affairs Minister Kaya
00:23Ma to order a review.
00:25That review has alleged Richard King positioned himself to gain a direct financial benefit,
00:31and he allowed his name to be put forward as the sole nominee for the job, sidelining two
00:36preferred candidates.
00:38Ultimately, the report concluded Mr King's reappointment was constitutionally invalid, and ordered the
00:44board start the search for a replacement.
00:46But, is the review binding?
00:49The government says yes, Mr King says it's up to the board, and the board says it'll
00:54get legal advice and write to the Minister.
00:57And in the meantime, Richard King remains General Manager, a year-long process producing a status
01:02quo result for the APY Lands.
