00:00In the ten years Richard King has been the General Manager of the APY lands, he's faced
00:06legal battles and an Ombudsman investigation. But it was his latest reappointment which
00:11drew complaints and prompted a review. A report tabled in State Parliament last week found
00:17the recruitment process had been deliberately abandoned and two preferred candidates sidelined
00:22before Mr King's tenure was extended. The move was deemed constitutionally invalid and
00:27the board was told to start searching for a replacement. In response, the board sought
00:32legal advice. Now the Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Kaya Marr, has stepped in. The government
00:38issued a statement saying the minister has told the APY board and staff an administrator
00:43will be taking over for three months. The decision is based on the report's findings,
00:48including that misleading statements were made to the minister, conflicts of interest weren't
00:52disclosed and board members were asked to vote without all the information. The statement
00:57also says current and former board members had asked the minister to make change. The
01:02administrator is expected to be appointed next Wednesday.
