00:00On August 22, the Church celebrates the feast of Mary Queen.
00:08Eight days after the Ascension, we contemplate her who, raised body and soul into the glory of heaven,
00:15is crowned as queen of heaven and earth.
00:19This feast reminds us that Mary's motherhood does not end with Jesus,
00:24but that it extends to all humanity, in a royalty of service and love.
00:32The Feast of the Queenship of Mary was established in 1954 by Pope Pius XII following the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam.
00:45The Holy Father proclaimed that Mary, because of her unique role in salvation history, deserved to be honored as queen.
00:53Initially set for May 31, the feast was moved in 1969 to August 22, to place it directly linked to the Assumption.
01:05Thus, the liturgy emphasizes continuity.
01:10Mary, taken up into heaven, is immediately crowned.
01:14Mary's kingship has nothing to do with earthly powers.
01:19It is not made of domination or wealth.
01:23It is expressed in service and proximity.
01:27As the mother of Jesus, she shares his reign of mercy and love.
01:34As Mother of the Church, she stands close to each of us, attentive to our needs,
01:41constantly interceding for his children.
01:44The Bible already presents us with the image of the queen mother.
01:47In the kingdom of Israel, the king's mother had a privileged position and could intercede for the people.
01:57In the Apocalypse, Mary appears, a woman crowned with twelve stars, a sign of her royal dignity.
02:05Jesus himself, in ascending to heaven, associates his mother with his paschal victory.
02:12For centuries, Christians have invoked Mary as queen.
02:17Queen of angels, queen of saints, queen of the rosary, queen of peace.
02:23The Loretan litany multiplies these titles which translate the confidence of the Christian people.
02:30Each queen is a facet of her spiritual mission.
02:35In a world marked by violence and division,
02:39The feast of Mary Queen reminds us that true royalty is that of the heart.
02:45Mary shows us a path of humility, listening and self-giving.
02:50She leads us to her Son, the King of kings, teaching us to love without reserve.
02:59To celebrate Mary Queen is to recognize that she watches over us like a loving mother,
03:05may she intercede for us as a merciful queen
03:09and that it always leads us to Christ.
03:13On August 22, let us turn to her and tell her again
03:17Mary, our Queen and Mother, lead us to your Son Jesus.
