00:00Today, let's discover the inspiring story of Saint Elizabeth of Portugal, a queen,
00:07a peacemaker, a saint, a woman with an immense heart, whose life mixes royalty,
00:13prayer and devotion to the poor. Elizabeth was born in 1261 in Spain into the royal family
00:19of Aragon. She is the niece of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary and bears her name. From childhood,
00:25She is a pig, she is pious, gentle and turned towards others. At only 12 years old,
00:30She is married to King Denis of Portugal, an intelligent but authoritarian and unfaithful king.
00:36Elizabeth accepts this fate with humility. Rather than opposing it head-on, she prays,
00:41She consoles, she acts in silence. As queen, Elizabeth devotes her life to peace.
00:47She is nicknamed the angel of peace, because she intervenes on several occasions to prevent
00:52wars, including between her husband and her own son. She founded hospitals,
00:56convents and generously distributes food to the poor, sometimes in secret.
01:02It is said that one day her husband caught her carrying bread under her coat.
01:07He demands to see what she is hiding. When she opens her coat, the bread has turned into a rose.
01:13A silent miracle. After the death of King Denis, she retired to a convent of Clarisse,
01:17where she lives simply in prayer. But even there, she continues to intervene to
01:23restore peace between prince and kingdom. In 1336, she went on a pilgrimage to appease
01:28a conflict one last time. Exhausted, she died on the road to Estremos, at the age of 65.
01:34She was canonized in 1625. Saint Elizabeth of Portugal never needed a sword.
01:40to impose his will. His weapon was prayer. His strength, love. And his legacy,
01:49an active faith in the service of others. Today, she is the patron saint of mediators,
01:54divided families and committed women.
02:10THANKS.
