OSNOSH provides family picnic fun.

Osnosh in Oswestry has a family picnic offer to help struggling families.

00:00So we're here in Oswestry in the Osnos garden in Oak Street that's right isn't it

00:06and we're here with Bex and Riley Cox. Now first first off we've got to give

00:14credit to Riley he's been and picked his GCSE results up today and you've done

00:19alright isn't you Riley yeah you're pleased and you want to go on and do

00:22catering yeah so you spend a fair amount of your time helping out at Osnos

00:27yeah I've spent about four to five weeks helping out. Well that's fantastic isn't it?

00:34One of our lovely volunteers getting the experience and helping us at the same time.

00:39So we've been chatting to I've been out today Burton Borough and Urkelwood and I've been

00:44saying to them what you're doing after you've got your results then and you've

00:47been and not no one's giving me an answer well I'm going off to volunteer for a

00:51good community call so well done Riley that's where we'll start with that so

00:55Bex Osnos just what is Osnos all about if people aren't familiar okay Osnos is a

01:01small organization that collects surplus food from supermarkets and other food

01:05producers and we distribute it here at the centre three days a week we have a

01:12share table and where we hand out food vegetables bread pastries fruit anything

01:20that's coming from the supermarkets we also have a community cafe twice a week

01:26where we cook lovely hot nutritious food for people to pay for as much or as a

01:32little as they can afford to and we also work alongside the queue another

01:38organization in Osnos tree providing more hot meals for vulnerable isolated people

01:42well you've had this fantastic idea of making the most of some decent weather when we've got it and

01:48the garden and it's kind of a little picnic in the park just tell us in on

01:52what's the thinking behind that well we were kindly given some funding from one of

01:58the housing associations here in Osnos tree weekend housing to provide

02:03picnics for families who live within their their housing association and then we

02:09thought we'll expand it to anybody who wants to come along and have a picnic

02:13we've got beautiful garden here sensory garden so we we've got activities here

02:18within the garden hopscot hunt the carrot sensory engagement because we've got

02:24beautiful herbs and flowers growing here and while his knees are giving up on

02:28him it's an opportunity for families to come here and it's it's four pounds for a picnic

02:35but free if you're from Rican housing yeah I mean even if you know even if you're

02:39having to pay four pounds for a family picnic and you know like you say there's

02:42games we've got the um yes how to build a bug house yeah building a yes that's it

02:47yeah artwork so yeah so it's not you know looking at nice surroundings nice bit of

02:52grub and a bit of bit of family fun so there's a few more dates coming up but

02:56isn't there when else can people get involved Wednesday Thursday Friday until the

03:01end of um August for the picnics fantastic well thank you what a great a

03:07community um you know a community effort really and Riley what is it you've been

03:11getting out of doing your work here with Osnos then

03:14well I've been helping out uh in the kitchen um uh cooking food for the community

03:20and does it give you that kind of a good make you feel good when you go home at the

03:25end of the day and you thought you know what I've used my time wisely

03:27yeah it um yeah it's just it it's a very good uh thing for me because yeah we'll

03:35start start doing catering in college yeah in September and it's a good experience

03:42and that'll be here in Osnos we own it you'll go on to your further studies yeah

03:45yeah great so so what's what's the dream for you would you like to own your own

03:49restaurant or something one day no actually I would like to work in a

03:53restaurant yeah um get to know uh some people I haven't met before yeah yeah

03:59learn that trade well we wish you all the best with that Riley I mean you're off to

04:04a flying start helping out here with the Osnos guy so thank you Riley thank you

04:08Bex he's really second in and you know uses his initiative just gets on with jobs

04:13yeah great well that's it I mean Osnos you know helping people who are on that

04:18bread line with the food but this is the other side of it isn't it look at what you

04:21know Osnos is doing for Riley as well and giving him that that next step up

04:25yeah great stuff well done to all involved guys thank you
