00:00here in shrewsbury in the quarry park by some with samira hills and we're by the bandstand
00:04which is quite appropriate because you're a singer yes tell us about your journey then samira
00:09um so i've always loved performing um i originally got into musical theater when i was about four or
00:18five years old and then by the time i was 11 or 12 i decided that i wanted to start telling my
00:26own stories um so i started writing songs about my own life i learned how to play guitar piano
00:32dabble in the drums yeah but i don't class myself as a drum um and yeah i produce and it's what i've
00:42always done i just i absolutely love it i love it so what what describe your music what type of music
00:48is it i would describe it as well i describe myself as a sparkly angry pop girl yeah
00:56my music's very anthemic but pretty and i'm often writing about quite hard-hitting subjects so for
01:08example um as a trans person a lot of my songs are written from a trans female perspective so
01:13i'm writing about transphobia um homophobia um i'm writing about i had a song come out at the
01:21start of the year called one of a kind which is a song that i wrote about kind of being kept in the
01:25dark um by someone that you're seeing romantically and being made to feel like you're the dirty little
01:31secret in someone's life yeah so subjects like that but i think i often encourage my fans to kind
01:38dance through their pain and so that's why you have the kind of contrast between the deep hard-hitting
01:45subjects but with the firm dance pop yeah vibes you know yeah and um am i right in thinking you
01:52performed at pride yes how was that for you it was amazing i've done a few prides this year and it's
01:57just it's one of my favorite festivals to play because the crowd is always so warm and welcoming and
02:06everyone there is there because they want to support the community yeah it's such a good feel
02:12event isn't it yeah it's amazing yeah i loved it absolutely loved it so where were you destined to
02:18go then you know a magical one time yeah where would you like to kind of what have you got your
02:23sights set on yeah well it's my dream to just be a touring artist my favorite thing to do is perform
02:29and sing for people and it always has been so i'm doing everything that i can to make my dreams come
02:36true really what sort of artists and musicians have inspired you kind of on your journey oh so many
02:42i'm very inspired by 80s music my mom loved madonna growing up so naturally i love madonna um lady gaga
02:51at the moment chapel roan's really really inspiring i love charlie xlx there's so many there's so many
03:00female artists mainly it's always been like that iconic pop diva that has inspired me so
03:07so you're originally from um birmingham bromagen and you're now a shropshire girl how have you found
03:15um shropshire in terms of kind of with your with your journey as a trans female it's been it's felt
03:23like a really safe place to kind of discover myself tell me about this the new song nice catch i believe
03:32is that what it's called so go on tell me about the song and the inspiration yeah so it's very inspired
03:37by trying cx um i was starting to feel kind of quite sad about the fact that true romance is different
03:47i feel like there's so much pressure to just look as hot as you possibly can and get your social dating
03:55profile looking as pristine as you possibly can perfect eyebrows and then there's the whole thing
04:01with like ghosting and not replying too soon and it's just exhausting so i wanted to write a song
04:07about the death of true romance and kind of yearning for something real basically um so and
04:14there's a lot of kind of fishing metaphors in there so like people often say like oh you're going on the
04:19pool tonight or yeah so i was kind of playing yeah um lyrically with that fishing world i guess i don't
04:28know so that that song's up and out there if people want to have a listen where do they click where do
04:33they whether they hear you can find me on all social media platforms um at samira hills um the song
04:40all of my discography is out on all major streaming platforms so spotify up music amazon music
04:46wherever you listen to your music um and yeah i'd really appreciate the support
