00:00Two maintenance workers were conducting routine checks and cleaning storm drains in the northern
00:08suburbs of Alexander Heights when they made the horrific discovery on Monday afternoon.
00:14And it was no doubt a confronting scene, something that police acknowledged not only for the
00:19workers who found the baby's body, but also for the first responders at the scene.
00:25There was no information that sent workers to that drain.
00:30This was a chance discovery.
00:31They were very unprepared, not that you can prepare for a discovery like this.
00:37Police believe the baby's body was placed in that location and say that there's no evidence
00:43of the baby being washed through the drain, but the forensic teams are still analysing
00:48evidence from the scene to see if they can piece together any more clues about the circumstances
00:54of this baby's death.
00:55Now it's still unclear exactly who the mother of the baby is.
01:01And police say that identifying and finding her is their top priority because they hold
01:06urgent welfare concerns.
01:08They say that she likely needs medical attention.
01:12If you are watching, if you are listening, if you are that mother, please come forward and
01:19make yourself known to police.
01:21We would love to help you.
01:23From the mother of this child through to the discovery of this child's body by those drain
01:31workers, I cannot think of a more harrowing set of circumstances for people to be confronting.
01:39Police will continue to dig for any clues, but they are also urging the public to get in
01:44touch with any information or CCTV they might have which could prove pivotal to identifying
01:50and finding the mother of this baby.
