00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Beds and today I'm outside Sop Shop in the northern quarter to talk to you a little bit about one of the best cafes slash bakeries here in the city of Manchester.
00:10Now for those who've seen some of Manchester World's videos before you know that we're really keen to try and promote as many independent businesses as we can and this is a perfect example of one that really belongs in Manchester and is loved in this city for a very specific reason.
00:24Now in this case it's the top quality donuts that they put out as well as the brilliant coffee too so let's show you around a little bit inside and we'll talk a bit about the story and then obviously I'll try a donut at the end because I'm worth it.
00:36So this is Sop Shop. It's based on Tib Street in the northern quarter which is obviously a very well known street. There's some great other options down there places like Beer Moth, places like the Shoegaze Cafe as well but this is the one that really since 2017 since the year it opened has taken the northern quarter by storm.
00:53You can see how great the donuts there look. They're stacked up behind as well and the flavours are constantly changing too so every time you go in you'll be getting a brand new experience.
01:03The interior is wonderfully designed with blues and yellows and oranges which really makes it a visual feast for the eyes. The only thing better looking for the eyes are the donuts themselves obviously but it's not just coffee and donuts they do.
01:15They also have great breakfast and food menus that are definitely worth a try and some awesome merch as well. So let's have a look at the donuts.
01:22So that's a bit of an idea about the shop itself. Let's talk about their wares. Now obviously the donuts are what they're known for and I went for the classic one.
01:30I'm not sure how well you can see it from this angle just because it's so reflective the frosted on top but it looks absolutely great.
01:36We also got a classic flat white as well. The coffee's brilliant. It's really really smooth. A bit of bitterness coming through at the end which is just delightful.
01:45It's not too hot either. It's the sort of thing that's put down in front of you. You can drink it straight away.
01:49But we knew the coffee was going to be good. Let's talk about the donut.
01:58Wow. Look at the air pockets in there. That's ridiculously soft. Ridiculously moorish.
02:03And honestly I'm glad I went for the plain one despite temptation because the glaze is brilliant. Really sweet but not too sweet that it's completely overpowering the quality of the donut itself.
02:15It's a perfect boiled down glazed donut and it's completely easy to understand why this place is so incredibly popular.
02:23So there you have it. Another brilliant cafe here in Manchester. There are tons of others that we're going to be making our way around to as well.
02:38If there's any that you love in particular let us know and we'll try and get down there.
02:42But remember the reason that we're doing this series is because we want you to try and stop going to places like Blank Street, like Starbucks, like Nero.
02:48There are so many brilliant independent cafes here in Manchester and you absolutely have to get down and give them a try.
02:55So that's all for now. Thank you for watching Manchester World and we'll see you again very soon.
