Premavathi, a Chennai resident, became homeless in her twenties after developing a mental illness. With a father facing mental health struggles linked to unemployment and a mother who had left the family, she was left vulnerable. In February 2023, social workers from Kaakkum Karangal rescued her from the beach and admitted her to The Banyan, where she has since found emotional support, family-like bonds, and a sense of strength she never experienced before.
