00:00If you thought the mega-high-stakes world of sorority recruitment was wild,
00:04just wait till you see the obsessive moms and rush coaches
00:06behind the wannabe sorority sisters competing for a spot.
00:09I might want it more than Emily.
00:12Is rushing a sorority really the so-called NFL draft for women?
00:15The real-life phenomenon of Greek life sorority rush season
00:18became a craze on social media and reality TV,
00:21and now the outrageous world of rush coaches and obsessed moms
00:25are getting their own spotlight.
00:26Behind every girl going through rush,
00:28there's a mommy right behind her that wants it as bad as she does.
00:31I feel like we're rushing together.
00:32I want to know everything that she's doing.
00:34I'm living vicariously through her.
00:35Thanks to the popularity of documentaries like Bama Rush
00:38and the growing presence of TikTokers
00:40documenting themselves during rush season,
00:42better known as Rush Talk,
00:44the competitive world of entering Greek life has reached the masses,
00:47both for fans and for those baffled by the societal customs
00:50attached to elite Greek life institutions.
00:52We don't have kings and queens and lords and nobles in this country.
00:55Greek life is another kind of manifestation of us playing aristocracy.
00:58It's our little way to say you're special.
01:00More often than not,
01:01behind every hopeful college girl embarking on a grueling rush week
01:05is a mom who is just as, if not way more,
01:08excited and anxious for her daughter's fate.
01:11On the new Lifetime series,
01:12A Sorority Mom's Guide to Rush,
01:14sorority-obsessed moms show how far they'll go
01:18to ensure their daughter gets into the sorority of her dreams,
01:21or, in some cases, the sorority of the mother's dreams.
01:24My mom's very involved in my rush recruitment process,
01:27maybe a little too much than needed.
01:29Some moms even hire pricey rush coaches
01:31who've devoted their lives to perfecting the sorority recruitment process
01:35to help guide potential new members.
01:37If you're looking to find true friends
01:39who are authentic and thoughtful and caring,
01:42then that's what you need to be.
01:43That applies to sorority rush.
01:46Rush coaches will assess potential new members' grades,
01:49appearance, social media presence, the whole shebang.
01:52Then they'll craft each girl's most perfect presentation
01:55for entering Greek life,
01:56from resumes, headshots,
01:58and, of course, the exact look sororities are looking for.
02:01It's like applying for college all over again,
02:03but for entry to a social life of exclusive status.
02:06At its core,
02:07sorority recruitment is a test of a girl's ability
02:10to fit in and meet a certain standard.
02:12At the same time,
02:13it requires girls to differentiate themselves
02:15just enough to be remembered.
02:16She's gonna look like she belongs,
02:19but she's gonna be uniquely her.
02:20That's all I want.
02:21Rush coaches like Bill Alverson
02:23from A Sorority Mom's Guide to Rush
02:25devote their time to making sure
02:27each girl knows who she is
02:28and that she prepares herself not just externally,
02:31but on the inside too,
02:32to navigate the stress,
02:34potential disappointment,
02:35and what Alverson calls
02:36straight-up psychological warfare.
02:38But coaches are often also managing
02:40the mothers of the girls,
02:42who can be just as,
02:43if not more invested in their daughters
02:44securing a sorority bid.
02:46Oh, they're crazy,
02:47Alverson told People Magazine,
02:49saying moms have these ideas
02:50of what they want their little girls to be.
02:52They want their daughter to be happy,
02:54but that all falls into their parameters.
02:56They want to relive through their daughters,
02:57instead of sitting back
02:59and letting them experience
03:00their daughters.
