00:00:00This September, see you there.
00:00:05Manchester City, the kings of English football again.
00:00:30Gotta do it now, you'll never see.
00:00:32This is where it begins.
00:00:40Oh, what a goal!
00:00:44Just phenomenal!
00:00:52A touch from the heavens.
00:01:0020 times the champions of England.
00:01:06The stage is set.
00:01:08Welcome to the show.
00:01:10You can be the greatest of all time.
00:01:13You can be the greatest of all time.
00:01:18Premier League football returns tonight
00:01:20and it'll be an emotional evening at Anfield
00:01:22after the death of Diogo Jota
00:01:24and his brother Andre Silva six weeks ago.
00:01:27He was signed in 2020.
00:01:29He helped Liverpool to their 20th league title
00:01:32and he will be forever Liverpool's number 20.
00:01:43It's a kid that has fought a lot to be in the position he was.
00:01:47He was always someone very committed to fulfil his dream.
00:01:52We all loved Diogo.
00:01:54He was a very special boy.
00:01:56We came together from a team that was playing Champions League
00:01:59and we embraced the challenge of bringing Wolves back to the Premier League.
00:02:04He was incredible.
00:02:05And you respect him because of his will to win,
00:02:07his quality when it comes to playing football,
00:02:09his tenacity.
00:02:10He was born to play in the Premier League.
00:02:15Special moment for the new signing on his Premier League debut.
00:02:18I would say he was a very, very calm person and humble,
00:02:21very simple person.
00:02:22He was happy with his PlayStation at home,
00:02:24with his kids playing football.
00:02:26He was happy with just that.
00:02:28When things were difficult,
00:02:37the first one I've always looked at was Diogo,
00:02:39because he helped the club and me so many times in difficult moments.
00:02:44The more difficult it was, the better Diogo was for us.
00:02:47Diogo was for us.
00:02:51Well deserved brother.
00:02:52Thank you mate.
00:02:54When I take comfort in,
00:02:56that in the last month of his life,
00:02:58he was a champion in everything.
00:03:00A champion for his family,
00:03:01a champion for his country,
00:03:03and of course a champion for us by winning the Premier League.
00:03:05The murals, flowers, scarves, cards,
00:03:19and other tributes outside Anfield
00:03:21will be used to create a permanent memorial sculpture
00:03:24in memory of Diogo and his brother.
00:03:26There will be a special fan mosaic in the stands
00:03:29and a minute's silence observed before kick-off tonight.
00:03:32The club has also retired Jota's number 20 shirt
00:03:36at all levels across men's and women's football at the club.
00:03:39Forever 20 will be embroidered into the players' shirts
00:03:42for the duration of the season.
00:03:44And when Arna Slott was asked about playing football again
00:03:47in such difficult circumstances,
00:03:49he said this,
00:03:51Maybe the best thing for us to do
00:03:54is handle this situation like Jota was.
00:03:57It didn't matter if he was talking to me,
00:04:00to his teammates or to the staff,
00:04:03Diogo was always himself.
00:04:06If we want to laugh, we laugh.
00:04:09If we want to cry, we're going to cry.
00:04:12We will always carry him with us in our hearts
00:04:15and in our thoughts wherever we go.
00:04:19Nothing seems to be important if we think of what's happened.
00:04:23But we are a football club and we need to train
00:04:27and we need to play again.
00:04:30And play again they do
00:04:32as Liverpool's title defence gets underway
00:04:34with this Premier League opener this evening.
00:04:37Today I want to talk to you about football.
00:04:47But not just any football.
00:04:49Premier League football.
00:04:51And behind that name, there are legacies.
00:04:55Reggie's time.
00:05:02The special ones.
00:05:04Please don't call me arrogant.
00:05:05The normal ones.
00:05:06Boom.
00:05:07The 5,000 to ones.
00:05:09The invincibles and the inevitables.
00:05:13It's most definitely the greatest show on earth
00:05:16and you don't want to miss it.
00:05:18It's not here.
00:05:20Aguera!
00:05:21Marie!
00:05:24That's majestic!
00:05:26Oh, what a ball!
00:05:27Where are you?
00:05:28Oh!
00:05:29Oh!
00:05:30Oh!
00:05:31Oh!
00:05:32Jarrod Slicks!
00:05:33Pleased away.
00:05:34Tavern!
00:05:35Where do you want your statue?
00:05:37Vincent Kupfede.
00:05:38Collymore closing in!
00:05:39He's devastated!
00:05:40I will love it if we beat them.
00:05:42Love it.
00:05:43Love it.
00:05:44And this year, ain't no different.
00:05:49A new season brings new hope.
00:05:52New stars.
00:05:54New questions.
00:05:56Let the chaos begin!
00:05:58Oh!
00:05:59Oh!
00:06:00That is incredible!
00:06:01Brilliant touch from this.
00:06:02Omar!
00:06:03Let's fly!
00:06:04The summer!
00:06:05Oh!
00:06:06And yeah, it's live.
00:06:11It's been 82 days,
00:06:13but the Premier League is back.
00:06:15And Liverpool's title defence starts here at Anfield against Bournemouth.
00:06:20The opening weekend of this brand new Premier League season is upon us.
00:06:25Liverpool against Bournemouth is tonight.
00:06:27Then there are five games tomorrow.
00:06:29Newly promoted Sunderland are at home to West Ham.
00:06:32Burnley are away at Spurs.
00:06:33And our Saturday night football is at Molyneux,
00:06:36where Wolves take on Manchester City.
00:06:38And remember, you'll be able to watch a minimum of 215 matches live on Sky Sports this season,
00:06:45including every two o'clock kickoff on a Sunday.
00:06:48It starts with Club World Cup winners Chelsea against Crystal Palace,
00:06:51and Brentford travelling to Nottingham Forest.
00:06:53And this weekend's Super Sunday ends with a big clash at Old Trafford.
00:06:57It's Manchester United against Arsenal.
00:07:00Leeds play Everton at Elland Road.
00:07:02That's our Monday night football.
00:07:03The season opener is here at Anfield, home of the champions.
00:07:06And Liverpool have added to their squad as they prepare to defend their title.
00:07:12Anfield awaits.
00:07:1438 games to go to see who will be crowned Premier League champions this time around.
00:07:20And here, as always on a Friday night, it's Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.
00:07:26Jamie, there will be a lot of expectation around this Liverpool side
00:07:30because of the signings that have been added, because they are the defending champions.
00:07:34Is it reasonable to expect them to defend their title and defend it convincingly?
00:07:39People may say that because there's no doubt the squad is much stronger than it was last season.
00:07:45We could see that in the teams that the manager picked.
00:07:48He didn't have full confidence in certain players and he's rectified that in terms of players that he's brought in.
00:07:54But I envisage a much tighter title this season because I think Liverpool will be better.
00:08:00I think they maybe get more points than they got last season because they dropped off towards the end.
00:08:04But I think Manchester City and Arsenal will be a lot more stronger than they were last season.
00:08:08Those two have been the two teams really in the last two or three seasons who've battled it out for the Premier League title.
00:08:13Last season they dropped off and Liverpool took full advantage of that.
00:08:16And I expect those teams to be a lot stronger this season.
00:08:19Liverpool hadn't been particularly active in the last few transfer windows, but they certainly have this time around Gary.
00:08:24Are you surprised that they've gone out with a title winning side and made so many big money signings?
00:08:29No, I think that to be fair to Gary, he called it a long way through last season that basically Liverpool need to sign players irrespective of whether they won the league or not.
00:08:37They've obviously lost players, you know, four or five great players that have served them well over the last few years.
00:08:43So they've had to bring new talent in. They've really measured. They don't panic.
00:08:47I think they've been very calm in the transfer market and they seem to wait to get the right player.
00:08:51And they've really pounced this summer with probably one or two more still to come.
00:08:55And it's looking like excellent business on paper with players with lots of years in front of them as well.
00:09:00Obviously missing from the outs for Liverpool is Diogo Jota following his death in the summer.
00:09:08When you look at that changeover of players, Jamie, is that the one note of caution that you might strike for anybody who's excited about Liverpool signings that there is quite a big churn this summer?
00:09:18Yeah, that is the worry. And Liverpool haven't looked themselves in preseason.
00:09:22I mean, it might sound strange what I'm going to say now, but Liverpool still need more players because of the actual players that have gone out.
00:09:31You think of the amount of forwards Liverpool had last season, you know, they've lost three and they've brought one in.
00:09:36So Liverpool still need to bring at least one more forward and maybe one more defender.
00:09:40And then that is a formidable squad that will look to attack, you know, the Premier League and the Champions League.
00:09:45But this is not about, you know, the ownership now throwing all kinds of money about.
00:09:49Liverpool feel this is the right thing to do. I think Liverpool will now go maybe two or three windows without spending again,
00:09:55because they'll feel like, right, we've got the squad. It's a great age.
00:09:58And we're almost getting ready for the time when Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk maybe move on in two years time.
00:10:03I think it really goes to show how important it was to secure van Dijk and Salah,
00:10:09because if you're thinking about integrating new defenders, which they are doing,
00:10:12it's to have a kingpin like van Dijk to hold it together and give everybody comfort.
00:10:16It's like a comfort blanket. Similarly, up front, you've got Salah, who's ice cold, so composed.
00:10:21So the likes of Virgil and Eketike, they're going to be settled enormously by the fact that Salah's there
00:10:26and he's consistent and he's reliable. So I think the major signings probably happened at the end of last season
00:10:31when they signed Salah and van Dijk, because those new young players that are coming in have got people to really learn from.
00:10:36I want to get your thoughts as well on what Jamie was saying about this being a considered transfer window.
00:10:43And Jamie was just saying that this has been a very considered transfer window.
00:10:47Even if Isak comes in, even if Mark Gay is the defender who's being linked with Liverpool at the moment comes in,
00:10:53and the spending goes up further, does it feel like something that's thought out rather than, as Jamie was saying,
00:10:59you know, the opposite of just throwing money at a problem?
00:11:02Yeah, because I think last summer it could have been, Jürgen Klopp leaves, what would a lot of clubs have done?
00:11:08They would have brought a new manager in and they would have definitely supported him in the transfer market.
00:11:12Liverpool did the best business last summer by not signing anybody and they had consistent players,
00:11:17same squad and they won the league. But honestly, they only could do that for so long.
00:11:21They have lost three or four really important players. They had to go strong this summer.
00:11:25So they've bedded the manager in for a year. They've kept the same squad last season.
00:11:29Now's the time to really go for it. And they bought players who've got a really looks like a massively promising future.
00:11:35Gary, just talk to me about the difficulty in defending a title rather than going out and winning a title.
00:11:41Yeah, I mean, I can understand why Cara is a little bit cautious in saying that obviously it's not a foregone conclusion
00:11:46that Liverpool are going to win the league and I hope he's right.
00:11:49But if I'm looking at it from a point of view of Liverpool with Van Dijk, with Salah, with Alisson,
00:11:54with these players that they've brought in, they should have their chests out.
00:11:57They should be thinking we're going to win this league again.
00:11:59You can never say you're going to win the league comfortably. I don't think it's ever comfortable.
00:12:02And Liverpool players won't have felt comfortable last season, but they've won two in 33, 34 years.
00:12:08This is now a time for Liverpool to really kick on. It really is because Arsenal haven't proven they can win it yet.
00:12:18They don't look at their strongest. Pep's looking like it's going through a transition.
00:12:21United are nowhere near. Chelsea not quite there. So Liverpool really are massive favourites.
00:12:26But they should really feel strength in that rather than feel pressure.
00:12:31I know you're joking about the two in five, but it's actually the phrase that Arna Slott uses when he talks about Liverpool and Premier League titles.
00:12:37Is that, do you think, Jamie, partly because he's trying to instil that idea in the squad and that belief in the fans that this is a team that should and can be challenging regularly for titles?
00:12:48Yeah, I think his comments have been really interesting in the pre-season because he keeps getting asked about how many players have come in and how much Liverpool have spent.
00:12:55And he keeps saying that a normal title winner doesn't lose this many players.
00:13:01So I don't know if it's just what he thinks himself or he's sending a little message to his board that maybe he's unhappy with how many players have gone.
00:13:08Maybe Luis Diaz. It was that one where you could argue both ways. Half the supporters probably wanted to keep him.
00:13:14The other half probably wanted to move him on because it was a good price.
00:13:17But he is right in that you don't really see a title winning team, not so much not bring players in, but take so many players out.
00:13:25The Trent one was out of his hands, but Luis Diaz played a lot. Obviously, Nunez played a lot.
00:13:29Obviously, we know the situation with Jotter as well. So I don't think it is a foregone conclusion because of that reason.
00:13:34It almost feels like a different team.
00:13:36They have a very good record against Bournemouth, Liverpool. They have a very good record on the opening day.
00:13:41This is a Bournemouth side that have made big changes of their own, namely in terms of the players who have gone out of the club.
00:13:46And a couple of big signings coming in. What are your thoughts on them and their prospects for this match in the season, Gary?
00:13:52Well, that man that just walked in the manager is the most important person. I think he's been fantastic for them.
00:13:57He's not panicking. Obviously, they're trying to get players in. They got Diakite in. So obviously, it's going to be a big, big loss for them.
00:14:03Those three players that they've lost in the back line are going to leave them sort of devastated in some ways.
00:14:08But, you know, you always know as a club like Bournemouth that you're going to lose players to some of the biggest clubs.
00:14:13But I still think they'll have a decent season. We shouldn't get carried away with thinking that Bournemouth have to repeat sort of what they did last season, this season.
00:14:20Finishing anything above sort of 14th, 12th would be amazing for Bournemouth. Last season was sensational.
00:14:27And they'll want to get off to the perfect start here at Anfield later on this evening. Kickoff is at 8 o'clock.
00:14:34Over on Sky Sports News right now, Ronan Kemp has a new weekly show from 5 till 7, Premier League Friday.
00:14:39They'll preview all the weekend's fixtures. But if you are going to switch over to watch them, make sure you're back in a couple of minutes.
00:14:45Because after the break, we'll have all the team news from both Liverpool and Bournemouth.
00:14:49How many debuts will we see tonight? Will we see a first Premier League start for Liverpool's club record signing Florian Wirtz?
00:14:56Did you know you can get unlimited data with 48 Mobile? $12.99 a month and no annual price hikes?
00:15:15That sounds like a big yep.
00:15:22Is that cloud shaped like the word yep?

00:15:2548 Mobile. It's a big yep.

00:16:34Let's colour.
00:16:35All right now tennis fans.
00:16:37It's US Open time, baby.
00:16:38And this one is anyways.
00:16:39Watch the US Open, live on Sky Sports.
00:16:41O.A.T.
00:16:42You can be the greatest of all time.
00:16:44The first of over 61,000 fans arriving at Anfield and just starting to make their way to the seat.
00:16:47Ahead of the 8 o'clock kickoff coming up between Liverpool and Bournemouth.
00:16:48The first of over 61,000 fans arriving at Anfield and just starting to make their way to the seat.
00:17:00Ahead of the 8 o'clock kickoff coming up between Liverpool and Bournemouth in this Premier League Opener.
00:17:19Our commentator Peter Drury is on the gantry for this one.
00:17:25And the first lot of team news of the season is in.
00:17:28Peter, what can you tell us?
00:17:30Yeah, Kelly, the thrill of the first team sheet of a new season.
00:17:32The ink yet to dry on headline news, which I think the supporters of both teams, as I assimilate it together with you, will quicken the pulse of everyone.
00:17:42The Liverpool 11 does afford Premier League debuts to Ugo Eketike after his dream start to the Community Shield.
00:17:51To Florian Wirtz, their priciest purchase ever.
00:17:55To Jeremy Fringpong after years, of course, of Trent Alexander-Arnold, another Wembley scorer last weekend.
00:18:02And indeed to Milos Kerkhez against the club, which sold him.
00:18:06He does hold off Andy Robertson at left back.
00:18:08We know there's still no Ryan Gravenberg.
00:18:10He's suspended today.
00:18:11The midfield change is Alexis McAllister fit again now in place of Curtis Jones.
00:18:17Otherwise, much as you probably anticipated.
00:18:19Marma Dashvili is the new boy on the bench, the goalkeeper.
00:18:22Together, incidentally, with Rio Ngomoa, the breakout starlet of pre-season.
00:18:28A look now at Bournemouth.
00:18:29And they have a new goalkeeper in Georgi Petrovic, recruited, of course, from Chelsea.
00:18:33Adrian Truffair comes from Rennes to replace Kerkhez at left back.
00:18:38And Bofode Diakite only signed on Wednesday.
00:18:41He's had two training sessions.
00:18:43And he is straight into the 11 to replace Ilya Zabani and or Dean Housen alongside Marcos Senezi at centre-back.
00:18:50Evan Nielsen, as you would have thought, leads the line.
00:18:52And by the way, Philip Billing, after helping Napoli win the Italian league, is back.
00:18:57And he is on the bench.
00:18:58So that's the Bournemouth news.
00:18:59But the big Liverpool questions for you, Kelly, are answered.
00:19:03Frimpong, Wietz, Eketike, Kerkhez.
00:19:07Yes, yes, yes, and yes again.
00:19:10Peter, thank you very much.
00:19:12Season's greetings to you.
00:19:13We'll be back with you a little bit later on.
00:19:15Thoughts on that Liverpool line-up, Jamie?
00:19:17Is it pretty much as expected with McAllister coming into the side?
00:19:20Is it the one change from the one that started the community?
00:19:23Yeah, listen, McAllister is one of the unsung heroes of the Liverpool team.
00:19:27He's been a fantastic sign-in.
00:19:29And I think they missed him last week in the community shield.
00:19:32He's a calming influence.
00:19:33He's like maybe a Paul Scholes figure for Manchester United.
00:19:37Just sits in that midfield.
00:19:38Just almost makes other players play better.
00:19:40Really cool and calm and collected in possession.
00:19:43And I think they've missed something in central midfield.
00:19:45A couple of the pre-season games where they've looked a little bit vulnerable.
00:19:48Certainly being too easy for the opposition to get at the back four.
00:19:51So, yeah, a welcome return for him.
00:19:53Is that an area that he'll look to strengthen as well, central midfield?
00:19:56I'm not sure because I think Sir Bosley, who has done well in pre-season in that role,
00:20:00going a little bit deeper.
00:20:01I think they've got four players for two positions.
00:20:03I think we know the first choice ones are Gravenberg and McAllister.
00:20:06And you've got Curtis Jones and probably Sir Bosley as well, maybe to back up that.
00:20:11As far as the new signings are concerned, they're pretty much all in there, Jamie.
00:20:15So, how excited are Liverpool fans going to be to see them in action?
00:20:18And how excited should they be?
00:20:19They should be excited, you know, because they are all attacking players.
00:20:22Even though there's two defenders in there, they're really offensive.
00:20:25And, you know, this crowd and a lot of supporters online have been screaming at the club for years
00:20:30to go out and spend lots of money and bring lots of players in.
00:20:32So, they've got the wish, certainly this season.
00:20:35And, yeah, it does look exciting.
00:20:37I mentioned towards the end of last season, Liverpool needed six or seven players,
00:20:41even though they were nailed on to go and win the title.
00:20:43So, as I said, I don't think it's Liverpool just spending money for spending.
00:20:47See, this was needed. They needed better backup in certain areas.
00:20:50And for me, they needed a better left back and number 10 and centre forward.
00:20:54And they're the three positions, certainly, that the manager's gone out and gone.
00:20:57Look, I think we've seen at times formulaic football quite a bit over the last seven or eight, nine years.
00:21:02But when I look at that front four and I think of the fact that Virts, obviously,
00:21:05sometimes you see more a midfield player that moves up the pitch rather than a forward goal back.
00:21:10And I like the fact they've got like a front four.
00:21:12It may leave them a little bit more open.
00:21:14They might concede some goals at times, but they'll score absolutely tons of goals.
00:21:19And there should be really exciting games here this season.
00:21:21If you're a football fan watching Liverpool, you're going to be excited.
00:21:24I think the, sorry, Gary, I think the exciting thing for Liverpool supporters,
00:21:27Liverpool were way above everybody in attacking teams last season,
00:21:31in terms of the amount of goals they scored, their XG numbers, their shots at goal.
00:21:35They were levels above Arsenal and he's still gone out and gone.
00:21:38So to those attacking players as well.
00:21:40So he still wasn't satisfied with the attack last season.
00:21:43I think he's doing it properly.
00:21:44I think that's how football should be.
00:21:45Go and just look to score loads of goals.
00:21:47Obviously, they have to defend well.
00:21:48But you know, think of the full backs are attacking as well.
00:21:51They're going to be sensational going forward.
00:21:53Do you think this feels like an honor slot team now rather than a Jurgen Klopp squad that had
00:21:58honor slots coaching behind it?
00:22:00Yeah, I think that's fair to say.
00:22:02I think what Arna Slott did last season, we thought it was more of a coach like control.
00:22:07We were just getting to know him as a coach.
00:22:10And we kept talking about the control Liverpool have was slightly different than the previous manager.
00:22:14But then you look at the signings that he's brought in.
00:22:16Now, maybe it's not as much control, it's maybe more exciting.
00:22:19And here's the man.
00:22:20And Arna Slott joins us now.
00:22:21Arna, thanks very much for coming out to talk to us.
00:22:24I just want to start by asking you about what's been a very difficult preseason.
00:22:28But now the players are here.
00:22:30They're ready to defend their Premier League title.
00:22:33Where are the squad in terms of their preseason preparations and their readiness for this season on all levels?
00:22:40I think far better than I expected five or six weeks ago at that moment of time.
00:22:47You feel, will it ever be possible to play again or will it ever be possible to get them going again?
00:22:53But as I said many times, they've conducted themselves so, so, so well in that period of time when we first heard the news.
00:23:03And afterwards, I think on both sides, they were great.
00:23:07So as a human being, but they also understood that we had to be professional football players again.
00:23:13So we had to work hard and that's what they started doing.
00:23:16And as you said, they need to play again.
00:23:19They need to come here and they need to defend their title.
00:23:21But there's plenty of new signings in there for the Liverpool fans to get to see at Anfield for the first time, some of them.
00:23:28Yeah.
00:23:29If a lot of players go at a club like this, it's quite normal to replace them.
00:23:34Otherwise, we had to use the under-18s today. That would not be smart.
00:23:38So, yeah, we've lost many. We've brought in many. And even yesterday, we brought in one who's unfortunately not available yet.
00:23:45But this is Giovanni Leone. Yeah. Yeah. So now we're really happy. Of course, we've lost a few very, very good players as well.
00:23:54But the ones we've brought in are special players as well.
00:23:58And a lot of the players that you brought in are attacking players, even the full backs that have come in as well.
00:24:03And there's been a few problems a little bit in pre-season in terms of conceding goals.
00:24:07Is that to do with the attacking nature of the players or is it a structure problem?
00:24:12If you look at the facts, conceding goals, then what you're saying is true.
00:24:18I remember the game we played Palace away last season in the 80th minute.
00:24:23They went one-to-one against one against Fitz Jarros. Fitz saved it. We won the game 1-0.
00:24:28Now the same moment they scored in that situation. If I look in general, I don't think we concede more chances.
00:24:34But the ones we've conceded led to goals most of the time. I don't know if you were here against Bilbao.
00:24:39We hardly conceded any chance at all, but we did concede two set pieces where one of them was deflected from one of us.
00:24:46So, in general, I don't think we conceded a lot of chances.
00:24:50But we did concede more goals in pre-season than we did last season throughout almost the whole season.
00:24:55Arnie, we've watched Trent Alexander-Arnold with Mo Salah have one of the great partnerships down the side.
00:25:01How does that partnership now differ with Frimpong and Salah? What are the differences in terms of what we're going to see?
00:25:07No, the biggest difference is that Trent is also a player that can overlap and underlap, but his passing ability was probably the best.
00:25:16I wanted to say a fullback as ever.
00:25:19It was better than mine, I can assure you.
00:25:21We've ever seen in the Premier League, but I don't even think I offend you if I say this.
00:25:26So, that was the main strength of Trent, and I would not say that's the main strength for Conor Bradley or Jeremy Frimpong.
00:25:35What the two of them do have, and maybe Jeremy even more than Conor is, the 1v1 quality which we saw in the Community Shield as well.
00:25:43So, that makes it more difficult for the other teams, because they could have maybe normally make a 2v1 against Mo.
00:25:50Then we squared it to Trent, who whipped it in.
00:25:52But now it's two times a 1v1, and the both of them are very dangerous in a 1v1.
00:25:57Ana, we're going to let you go and continue your pre-match preparations.
00:26:00Thanks so much for coming out to talk to us.
00:26:02Good to see you.
00:26:04After the break, we're going to have a special live performance by Kasabian from the Outer Net London.
00:26:12They will be performing GOAT, our brand new title music.
00:26:17We'll be hearing from them next.
00:26:36As I walked in that door, I was so nervous.

00:30:14The greatest of all time.
00:30:16You can be the greatest of all time.
00:30:18You can be the greatest of all time.
00:30:20Round about an hour to go before kickoff and the opening day of the new season.
00:30:24And Bournemouth fans are looking to see their side win at Anfield for the first time in their history.
00:30:30Liverpool fans hoping theirs will be able to claim back to back Premier League titles come May.
00:30:35And this is how they line up plenty of new faces on display for this new Premier League season.
00:30:42New signings for Liverpool.
00:30:44Frimpong, Kerkers making their debuts in the Premier League.
00:30:47Wirt and Ekitike also starting for Liverpool this evening.
00:30:54And there are new faces for Bournemouth as well.
00:30:56Petrovic, Diakite, Trouffer all starting for them.
00:30:59Adam Smith, the right back, the only regular member of the back line from last season to start for Bournemouth this evening.
00:31:06So it's that new all-star looking Liverpool XI as Bournemouth look to buck history and to get that result.
00:31:13Liverpool looking to get off to a great start this season.
00:31:17Jamie Carragher, when you look at how the two sides match up,
00:31:20what are your thoughts on where Bournemouth can cause Liverpool problems?
00:31:24Well, I think Bournemouth will just have to look at what's happened to Liverpool in pre-season.
00:31:27Namely, what happened last week.
00:31:29Crystal Palace caused Liverpool huge problems on the counter-attack.
00:31:32And you look at Semenyo there especially.
00:31:34Tavernier behind the centre-forward Ivan Nielsen and then Brooks.
00:31:38Those four attacking players, you'd expect the back four and the two sitting midfield players to almost hold their positions really away at Anfield.
00:31:44But that front four could get joy as we saw at the weekend in the Community Shield.
00:31:48Well, we can head live now to the outer net London to hear Kasabian perform our new title music for this season.
00:31:57It's G-O-A-T or GOAT.
00:32:00You'll be hearing it a lot this season.
00:32:02But the best way to hear it is live.
00:32:04Pantone and Rojo is live.
00:32:10GLORIA PENNING
00:32:15Sing it now
00:32:16Round one
00:32:17Yeah, yeah, yeah

00:32:23You can be the greatest outfall
00:32:25T-O-A-T
00:32:27Gotta do it now and you'll never see
00:32:31You can be the greatest outfall.
00:32:33We can be the greatest of all
00:32:35Young I come
00:32:40Don't ever compromise
00:32:46Gotta be strong
00:32:50How will I find the way
00:32:53Don't let her bring it down
00:32:57Let her fly
00:32:59Let her fly
00:33:02Let her fly
00:33:06Singing down, about to
00:33:25Look into the sky cause you know it's true
00:33:27You can be the greatest I want
00:33:30You can be the greatest of all
00:33:33G-O-N-G
00:33:35Gotta tell them now who you're gonna be
00:33:38You can be the greatest of all
00:33:40You can be the greatest of all
00:33:43You can be the greatest of all
00:33:46You can be the greatest of all
00:33:47You can be the greatest of all
00:33:49You can be the greatest of all
00:33:49You can be the greatest of all
00:33:53You can be the greatest of all time.
00:34:12You can be the greatest of all time.
00:34:15A live performance by Kasabian of Sky's new title music for this new Premier League season.
00:34:25GOAT, who will be the greatest of all time?
00:34:29Who will seize their opportunity this season to put themselves in the Premier League history books?
00:34:35And Serge joins us live now.
00:34:37Serge, thanks so much for this.
00:34:39Who do you think is the greatest of all time?
00:34:41Who is the best ever Premier League player for you?
00:34:44Jamie Vardy.
00:34:47As a Leicester fan, there was only one answer to that.
00:34:51It's almost the timing couldn't really have been any worse.
00:34:53As Leicester get relegated, you get to do the Premier League opening song.
00:34:57But I suppose you can watch it this season and be pretty relaxed.
00:35:00Yeah, I can. I can enjoy the Premier League season.
00:35:04Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Can't wait for the season to start.
00:35:07In the Championship or the Premier League, Leicester aren't you?
00:35:11That's what he's saying.
00:35:13Yeah, I know. Listen, Jamie helped me out, mate.
00:35:16It's really difficult. This is a big moment for us.
00:35:19You know what I mean? It's a really iconic track.
00:35:20We're buzzing. You keep reminding me we're not in the Prem.
00:35:23Do you know what I mean? Like, come on.
00:35:25Love the jacket.
00:35:27That's what I was just going to say, actually.
00:35:30Serge, I love the song. I love the jacket.
00:35:31I love the jacket. Can you give me some fashion advice, please?
00:35:35You know what? I've been watching you on Stick to Football.
00:35:38You stepped up a bit, mate.
00:35:39Gary, I'm feeling you at the moment.
00:35:41I'm liking the hoodies.
00:35:43I'm liking the hoodies.
00:35:44We can't say that on this show.
00:35:45No, Serge, that is more than enough on Gary's fashion sense as well.
00:35:50No phrase for that one there.
00:35:51Listen, Serge, really appreciate you joining us to have a chat
00:35:54and really appreciate that.
00:35:55The new song sounds great.
00:35:56It's going to sound fantastic all season long.
00:35:59Thanks so much.
00:36:02Amazing. Thank you.
00:36:03See you.
00:36:04Thank you very much to Serge from Kasabian.
00:36:06You will be hearing GOT all season here on Sky Sports.
00:36:10As we saw earlier and as we saw from the Bournemouth Team News,
00:36:13it has been a summer of change for them, for Andoni Arawler.
00:36:16Emma Saunders went to catch up with the New Look Squad.
00:36:20Every season you start with this nervous thing,
00:36:25that you don't know if you are at the level.
00:36:28We're ready to go.
00:36:29Tough game for the start, but I think we'll be alright.
00:36:32The team has worked extremely hard to prepare for the season,
00:36:34so I think we're ready to go.
00:36:39Three words to describe how you feel about this coming season.
00:36:44Excited.
00:36:45Excited.
00:36:46Excited.
00:36:47Exciting.
00:36:48Exciting season.
00:36:49I'll give you.
00:36:50Confident.
00:36:51Confident.
00:36:52Yeah.
00:36:53That's a good one.
00:36:54Impatient.
00:36:55You can say this.
00:36:56Yeah, nice.
00:36:57Impatient.
00:36:58What if you don't have three?
00:36:59Out.
00:37:00Some outer.
00:37:01Europe.
00:37:02Europe.
00:37:03That should be...
00:37:04Yeah.
00:37:05Europe.
00:37:06I think it's going to be a proud season for us.
00:37:07I think we're going to achieve some big things.
00:37:08Who takes a long time in the mirror?
00:37:10Maybe Tavernier will be one of the last ones.
00:37:12Nah, that's not me.
00:37:13That's either.
00:37:14Justin Cliver.
00:37:15Who takes that time?
00:37:16Enes Una likes it for sure.
00:37:17He always looks good, so yeah, I give him the credit.
00:37:19You've had a fresh trim ahead of today, haven't you?
00:37:21Of course, I had one last night.
00:37:22You have to be prepared for these things.
00:37:23Adam Smith is there.
00:37:25Spends the majority of the time looking at himself in the mirror.
00:37:29I'm not sure that's true, to be honest.
00:37:31There's a few lads that are longer than me.
00:37:33Alex Scott?
00:37:34I mean, look at his hair.
00:37:35Are you kidding me?
00:37:36Maybe Alex Scott with his curtains.
00:37:37He's never a very long time.
00:37:38We hear this is a real labour of love.
00:37:40Is that fair?
00:37:41A lot of time goes into the curtains.
00:37:42No, not really.
00:37:43I wouldn't say that.
00:37:44A few minutes every morning.
00:37:46Really?
00:37:47Other lads said that I take ages and nights.
00:37:49I'm not telling any secrets, not knowing any names.
00:37:51What have they got you doing so far?
00:37:53Probably doing a TikTok for someone.
00:37:54Okay.
00:37:55Are you much of a TikToker?
00:37:56Yeah.
00:37:57Are you?
00:37:58A TikTok scene?
00:37:59No, I'm doing them myself.
00:38:00Right.
00:38:01But I'm scrolling.
00:38:02I've seen a few of you doing celebrations on your green screens.
00:38:04Yeah.
00:38:05It gets you in the mood.
00:38:06Yeah, it does get you in the mood.
00:38:07I mean, I think everyone's preparing.
00:38:08They've been practicing at home probably.
00:38:10So, yeah.
00:38:11Looking forward to it.
00:38:12You're acting like you haven't, but come on.
00:38:13I do it all the time.
00:38:14I don't lie about it.
00:38:15I'm honest.
00:38:16I do it all the time.
00:38:17So, I've got something cooking up for this season.
00:38:19Oh, really?
00:38:20Can we get any clues?
00:38:21No, no clues.
00:38:22You just have to see when I score the first goal.
00:38:23Well, you're just going to have to start scoring goals then, aren't you?
00:38:25That's my job, so hopefully I do so.
00:38:32Well, for some of the players at Bournemouth, it's going to be a getting-to-know-you session
00:38:36with them because three of them, Diakite, Petrovic and Trufa, new to the squad and they
00:38:41start for Bournemouth against Liverpool this evening.
00:38:44But look at that list of players who've left the club over the summer.
00:38:48Is this what happens, Gary, when you're a club that builds itself up around making money
00:38:53off transfers, on sustaining yourself financially in this way?
00:38:58Because it's a way that has had success at other clubs.
00:39:01Yeah.
00:39:02Look, I understand that Bournemouth are always going to have to sell.
00:39:04I think Hoisin obviously had a buyout clause, so that one can't be prevented.
00:39:09Kerkhez was always being lined up by Liverpool and obviously that was done.
00:39:12But he had three years left on his contract, Kerkhez.
00:39:15Zabani's a real surprise for me because obviously he brought a lot of money in,
00:39:18but he had four years left on his contract.
00:39:20He only signed a five-year deal last year.
00:39:22I know it's PSG, sometimes the player can sort of agitate a little bit and want to go there.
00:39:27I can understand that.
00:39:28It's hard to turn down the European champions.
00:39:30It's not ideal for Bournemouth to lose three of their back four all at one hit.
00:39:33And I think Zabani, I don't know, I understand from a player's perspective
00:39:37and the fact that the club would have been difficult for him to stay another year
00:39:41with PSG wanting him, but to lose three all at once.
00:39:44The goalkeeper as well.
00:39:45And the goalkeeper.
00:39:46It's big, it's big.
00:39:48And I think Zabani maybe they should have just held tight and said,
00:39:50look, another year, you need to do another year with us.
00:39:52Just bed the other players in.
00:39:54How difficult does that make that for the defence,
00:39:57to have a new goalkeeper in there,
00:39:59to have three of your back four changed from last season,
00:40:02starting a new Premier League season together?
00:40:04The reason they've gone, you think of the clubs that they've gone to,
00:40:06you talk about PSG, Hoisin gone to Real Madrid.
00:40:08I mean, they were top quality last season.
00:40:10And they only conceded 46 goals in the Premier League,
00:40:13one of the best defences.
00:40:14And we think of Uriola's team about being pressed and being aggressive,
00:40:18getting the ball forward quickly.
00:40:20But actually that defensive stability was fantastic.
00:40:22And they were good players.
00:40:24And it's going to be really difficult to replace them.
00:40:26You mentioned before about Liverpool bringing defenders in,
00:40:28but you've still got Van Dijk there.
00:40:30You've still got Alisson Becker behind them.
00:40:31It's doubly difficult for Bournemouth to replicate what they did last season,
00:40:34certainly defensively.
00:40:35I know you like Andoni Arawla a lot in terms of how he worked with Bournemouth,
00:40:39how he set them up,
00:40:40but how much work will he have had to do over the summer break
00:40:43in order to make sure that those new signings in particular are ready for this season?
00:40:47I don't think that work's finished.
00:40:49I still think there's more to do.
00:40:50When you look at the numbers there,
00:40:51the players that have moved on,
00:40:52they've only brought sort of three players in there,
00:40:54as we've just seen.
00:40:55I still think there's a lot of work for Bournemouth to do.
00:40:57People know they've got money as well,
00:40:59which is not always easy as well when you're going into the market.
00:41:02But I think there'll be a lot of reinforcements,
00:41:04I think, in the next few weeks for Bournemouth.
00:41:06Is he the kind of manager, though,
00:41:09that can do that and can make those changes quickly?
00:41:12Because what you've both said in the past about him
00:41:14is that he is a manager who can communicate his ideas effectively
00:41:17and get them through and working on the pitch.
00:41:19Yeah, I don't think he'll panic one little bit.
00:41:21I think he'll be quite relaxed.
00:41:22He'll come and talk to us shortly and tell us about it.
00:41:25I mean, it's not ideal to lose four of your back five,
00:41:27so that's something that, to be fair,
00:41:28he won't be able to get away from.
00:41:30But he's a fantastic coach.
00:41:31He'll do a good job with them.
00:41:32They won't be in danger, I don't think,
00:41:33of going down this season, Bournemouth.
00:41:35But it's going to be a lot harder for them to integrate.
00:41:38And the best form of defence tonight might be attack.
00:41:42They've got good players up front.
00:41:44Diakite coming in only this week.
00:41:45It's a big ask for them, particularly at this place
00:41:48and field against the players that they're up against.
00:41:50Reports that Ben Doak could be heading to Bournemouth.
00:41:53What would they be getting from him, Jamie?
00:41:56Well, he was certainly one of the best players
00:41:57in the Championship last season.
00:41:58It was always going to be difficult for him.
00:42:00At Liverpool, you know, the type of player that he is,
00:42:03he's a right winger.
00:42:04He likes to cut inside on his left foot.
00:42:05Well, Liverpool have got the best in the world at that.
00:42:07So there was no doubt he was always going to move on, Ben Doak.
00:42:10But I think it's a great move for him as well.
00:42:11There was a lot of talk, a lot of Championship clubs
00:42:13interested in maybe teams near the bottom of the Premier League.
00:42:16Don't forget Bournemouth were ninth last season in the Premier League.
00:42:18So I think it's a really good move for him as well.
00:42:20And I hope it goes well for the lad.
00:42:22We'll have lots more from Anfield after the break
00:42:24and we'll hear lots more about Bournemouth
00:42:25because we'll be chatting to their head coach,
00:42:27Andoni Araula.
00:42:28And we'll be on the pitch to take a look at just how
00:42:30Liverpool's club record signing Florian Wirt can improve
00:42:33Arnaslock's title winning team.
00:42:47He didn't care if I screamed.
00:42:48But I didn't.
00:42:52It would wake them up.
00:42:54Sean had that test the next day.
00:42:56He needed his sleep.
00:42:58They didn't deserve this.
00:43:05I didn't deserve it either.
00:43:17It's bet builder time for Josh.
00:43:19And he builds his.
00:43:21His way.
00:43:22Three plus shots.
00:43:24All his data points to...
00:43:25Don Castor.
00:43:26I've got some difficult news.
00:43:29I'm betting on us to lose.
00:43:31Have you seen the odds?
00:43:33Go to whatever lengths you like to build your bed builder.
00:43:36He's not match fit!
00:43:43That's satisfaction.

00:45:12Forget this.
00:45:13Way easier.
00:45:14Same with shoes.

00:45:26Back in the day, if you wanted a picture of yourself

00:45:32Way easier
00:45:34Same with shoes, you just have to bend down and struggle
00:45:36But there's an easier way
00:45:38With hands-free sketches, slip-ins
00:45:39I just step in and go
00:45:41No bending down, I never have to touch my shoes
00:45:43Step out of the dark ages and step into sketches, slip-ins

00:47:18On his debut
00:47:19Sheringham goes for goal
00:47:21I don't think there's any other way, young man
00:47:24But to play football the way we play it
00:47:27Pitchman's free
00:47:37And he's marked his debut with a goal
00:47:40Back up
00:47:52That's absolutely brilliant
00:47:55Please don't call me arrogant
00:48:02Because what I'm saying is true
00:48:03I think I'm a special one
00:48:06New season but same old Arsenal
00:48:10You can enjoy your birthday cake tonight
00:48:13Well, I will definitely
00:48:14The first goal of the Emirates Stadium is scored by the visitors
00:48:26This is Rooney
00:48:27Looking for Ronaldo
00:48:29Certainly friends again now
00:48:33I just came to say hello
00:48:36Decent effort
00:48:38Oh, it's magnificent
00:48:40What a way to round off your city
00:48:43And Premier League debut
00:48:45Let's sum it up
00:48:46What did we learn this weekend?
00:48:47The Monday Night Football's tough for Gary Neville
00:48:49Absolutely not
00:48:50Ibrahimovic gets one on target
00:48:56And scores
00:48:58Sadio Mane wanting a goal for himself
00:49:00And what a glorious goal he's got
00:49:02Antonio Conte looks like he's got
00:49:05His opening day winner's Chelsea manager
00:49:07Here comes Kanoff
00:49:11Oh
00:49:13Brentford are off and running
00:49:15Yes, it's the Premier League
00:49:16The Premier League is back
00:49:18Come on!
00:49:20I'm not sure how I realise
00:49:21But the mics don't quite work
00:49:24As far over as that
00:49:25Crocs is there again
00:49:30And scores again
00:49:31Brighton
00:49:32Rocks Old Trafford
00:49:34Carlin in
00:49:35There he goes
00:49:37That's the counter punch that he brings
00:49:38Many memorable moments
00:49:44On the opening weekend
00:49:45Of Premier League seasons past
00:49:47There are five games tomorrow
00:49:48Including our Saturday night football
00:49:50As Manchester City travel to Wolves
00:49:52All of Sunday's games are live on Sky Sports
00:49:55And it ends at Old Trafford
00:49:57As Manchester United take on Arsenal
00:49:59On Monday Night Football
00:50:00Newly promoted leads face Everton
00:50:02At Elland Road
00:50:04But it all starts at Anfield
00:50:05And Super 6 is back
00:50:07If you scan the QR code
00:50:09That's the easiest way to take you
00:50:11To the best place to enter
00:50:12For £1 million
00:50:14Fans are arriving in their droves
00:50:20Now ahead of Liverpool against Bournemouth
00:50:22And those Liverpool fans
00:50:23Including Jamie Carragher
00:50:24Excited to see the new signings
00:50:26Make their Premier League debuts
00:50:27After a summer of record spending
00:50:29The big man wants to speak
00:50:32What have you got to say?
00:50:33I've got to say
00:50:34He's going to be the best striker
00:50:36In the Premier League ever
00:50:37Ever?
00:50:38Ever
00:50:39Talking about attackers
00:50:40How excited are you to see
00:50:41The new man in that number 7
00:50:43Sheafer Liverpool
00:50:43I am so excited to see Florian Veiths
00:50:45Listen you see him pre-season
00:50:47So much space
00:50:48And his touch is unbelievable
00:50:50He knows exactly where Salah is
00:50:51I think he's going to be the absolute business
00:50:53He looks it already
00:50:54A lot of new signings come in for the club
00:50:56Now who are you most excited to see?
00:50:58Fred Pong and Veiths
00:51:00Why?
00:51:00And Isak
00:51:01Oh!
00:51:02Whoa!
00:51:03So you think Isak's done?
00:51:04Is he signed?
00:51:05Is he going to get sorted in a couple of weeks?
00:51:07Yeah because it's all Newcastle
00:51:09That he won't play for them anymore
00:51:10Do Liverpool need to sign Isak?
00:51:13Yeah
00:51:13Why?
00:51:15Because he's really good in the attack
00:51:17And he's a good finisher
00:51:18Do you think Liverpool are going to be champions again
00:51:20This time next year?
00:51:22Everyone knows it
00:51:23Yeah
00:51:23Liverpool
00:51:24Going to win the league this season
00:51:26They should do
00:51:27Or they should be favourites
00:51:28Arsenal Man City are really really good
00:51:30Okay very good
00:51:31I don't know why I've had my arm around your interview
00:51:33But it's going all right
00:51:34Thank you
00:51:34Well not long until the players make their way out onto the pitch
00:51:39For their first Premier League game here at Anfield
00:51:41Jamie
00:51:41There's a lot of talk
00:51:43A lot of excitement from the Liverpool fans
00:51:44About those new signings
00:51:46We've talked a little bit about them
00:51:48But maybe in more general terms
00:51:49So let's hone in on Wirtz
00:51:51And what he can bring to Liverpool
00:51:53And where you think he fits in
00:51:55Well I think Liverpool last season in Sir Bosley
00:51:57They had a workman like number 10
00:51:59And when you think of some of the great number 10s
00:52:02In the Premier League in the last couple of years
00:52:03And I think of Liverpool's competitors
00:52:05I think of Odegaard at Arsenal
00:52:06I think of Kevin De Bruyne at Man City
00:52:08I think of Cole Palmer at Chelsea
00:52:10Liverpool didn't have that type of player
00:52:12They do have that now
00:52:13And what's quite interesting actually
00:52:15In the last couple of times
00:52:17Liverpool have won the Premier League
00:52:18With Arna Slott last season
00:52:20And Jürgen Klopp five years ago
00:52:22They probably didn't have
00:52:23A world-class attacking midfield player
00:52:26You know
00:52:26They were workmen like midfields
00:52:28And now they've certainly got that
00:52:29Now it might take something away from the team
00:52:31In another way
00:52:31But there'll definitely be a lot more creation
00:52:33In this Liverpool team
00:52:35Now Wirtz is there
00:52:36What would Par be for goals for this season
00:52:38For Wirtz?
00:52:40You'd want double figures wouldn't you
00:52:41I would imagine playing in that position
00:52:43You know
00:52:44Between the lines
00:52:45You're looking to thread people through
00:52:46But he's got to be getting goals
00:52:48But you just look at sort of Cole Palmer
00:52:49He's been an absolute revelation
00:52:51Since he's gone to Chelsea
00:52:52Look at his numbers
00:52:53So you'd want to be getting somewhere near that
00:52:55What do you think he has to do
00:52:57To kind of
00:52:58Justify is probably the wrong word
00:53:00Because the transfer fee isn't on him
00:53:02But to kind of
00:53:03Cement his place
00:53:05As Liverpool's record signing
00:53:06I think
00:53:06You could talk about individual
00:53:08Sort of achievements
00:53:09But I think Liverpool win the league
00:53:11I think that's the thing that you have to do
00:53:13Be part of a team that wins the league
00:53:14And I think to be fair
00:53:15You can sort of start to forgive then
00:53:16If he doesn't quite get as many goals
00:53:18As he should do
00:53:19But if he can play a full season
00:53:20Liverpool win the league
00:53:22Again back-to-back titles
00:53:23I think that would be the biggest achievement for him
00:53:25That he brings success to Liverpool in that way
00:53:28The other player obviously
00:53:29That is drawing all kinds of headlines
00:53:30Is Eketike
00:53:31And if Fjertz wasn't here
00:53:32He'd probably be the headline signing
00:53:34What do you think his role is
00:53:36Should someone like Alexander Isak come in
00:53:39What can he do
00:53:40Is he versatile enough to play elsewhere
00:53:42Rather than as a main striker
00:53:44Well Patrick Davidson spoke to Arna Slott
00:53:46A couple of days ago
00:53:47And asked him about that situation as well
00:53:50He said he's more than capable of
00:53:51Filling in for another striker
00:53:53Not so much Isak
00:53:54But he can play on the left
00:53:56And he could play in a front two
00:53:58Now the only thing for me
00:54:00But I've questioned the Isak thing
00:54:01A little bit
00:54:02Is I'm not quite sure
00:54:03Where the lad would get his minutes
00:54:04In his preferred position
00:54:05Which is up front
00:54:06Because it's hard to play the two of them
00:54:08Together up front
00:54:09Because you've got Vert in the number ten
00:54:11He's cost £115 million
00:54:13He's going to play every game he's fit
00:54:15And so would Isak
00:54:16So the lad would probably end up
00:54:18Filling in for Isak
00:54:19If he was the one who came in
00:54:20Or he would play some minutes on the left
00:54:22But I don't know if he'd ever
00:54:24Fulfill his full potential
00:54:25At the club
00:54:26If you buy someone
00:54:27Like an Isak
00:54:28Is your nervousness there
00:54:30Because Liverpool have always had
00:54:31It feels like a sort of
00:54:32A dominant striker
00:54:33Particularly in the last few years
00:54:35But for me
00:54:36Having three or four strikers
00:54:38Has always been the norm
00:54:39And the fact that you play
00:54:40You know
00:54:40Mainly Isak
00:54:42But then Iketike
00:54:42Still plays 20, 25 games
00:54:44He comes off the bench
00:54:45In another 20
00:54:46And he gets 45 games
00:54:47Is he washing nervousness
00:54:48Around Isak
00:54:49In terms of
00:54:49Listen
00:54:50I'm only thinking
00:54:51From a manager's point of view
00:54:52And being a player
00:54:53In a dressing room
00:54:53There's that hierarchy
00:54:54Of certain players
00:54:55We know
00:54:55There's five or six players
00:54:56Who play week in, week out
00:54:57When you spend that type of money
00:54:59Isak becomes one of them
00:55:00Like the goalkeeper
00:55:01Like Van Dijk
00:55:02Like McAllister in midfield
00:55:04Like Mo Salah
00:55:05So I sometimes think
00:55:06Sometimes you have competition
00:55:08For certain places
00:55:09And sometimes a player
00:55:10Is an understudy
00:55:10If Isak comes in for Liverpool
00:55:12Iketike is an understudy
00:55:13And £80 million for me
00:55:15Is a lot of money
00:55:15For an understudy
00:55:16I think that's the key thing
00:55:17That Jamie's just said
00:55:18At the end there
00:55:19When you pay £80 million
00:55:20That doesn't feel like
00:55:22An understudy price
00:55:23It feels like he should be
00:55:24A starting player
00:55:25But maybe Liverpool
00:55:26Are at a level now
00:55:27Where they've got the money
00:55:28They've got the team
00:55:29Where £80 million
00:55:30Is a second striker for them
00:55:31But that's the quality
00:55:32That they want to back up Isak
00:55:34If he was to get injured
00:55:34So maybe it's us
00:55:35Just psychologically
00:55:36Getting around the fact
00:55:37That we think of a backup striker
00:55:38Being around £30-40 million
00:55:40Or £25 million
00:55:41Ā£80 million is a lot of money
00:55:42I wonder if also
00:55:44Given that the club
00:55:45Is spending record amounts
00:55:47Of money in this transfer window
00:55:48And as you both said
00:55:49Earlier on
00:55:49There is a longer term plan here
00:55:51Than just this season
00:55:52If it's about
00:55:53Maybe moving towards
00:55:54A different shape
00:55:55As time goes on
00:55:56And as
00:55:56Mohamed Salah's career
00:55:58At Liverpool
00:55:58Gets towards the latter stages
00:56:01Which obviously
00:56:01He's got the contract renewal now
00:56:03But on Salah
00:56:05There's a lot been said
00:56:06About him
00:56:06The relationship
00:56:07Between him and Virts
00:56:09Is going to be
00:56:09An interesting one to watch
00:56:10I know you highlighted
00:56:11The relationship
00:56:12Between him and Frimpong
00:56:13Particularly with the absence
00:56:15Of Alexander-Arnold
00:56:16But how do you think
00:56:16He relates to Mo Salah?
00:56:19Honestly I think
00:56:20When you're playing with someone
00:56:21That's world class
00:56:21Like Salah is
00:56:22Who's consistent
00:56:24And reliable
00:56:24At all times
00:56:25During the season
00:56:26These young players
00:56:27That are coming in
00:56:28That are untested
00:56:29There is a bit of pressure
00:56:30On them with the price tags
00:56:31I just think
00:56:32It gives them
00:56:32That comfort blanket
00:56:33That safety net
00:56:34That you need
00:56:35When you're a young player
00:56:36Trying to bed yourself
00:56:36Into a football club
00:56:37You walk into that dressing room
00:56:39You see Alison
00:56:39Van Dijk and Salah
00:56:40The rest of the players
00:56:42Can feel that
00:56:43They're pretty much okay
00:56:44I've been there
00:56:45As a young player
00:56:45At United
00:56:46When we have some
00:56:46Incredible players
00:56:47And you just gain strength
00:56:48From it
00:56:49I think great players
00:56:50Like playing with each other
00:56:51And I always remember
00:56:52When great strikers
00:56:53Used to come to the club
00:56:54The connection
00:56:56Used to have with
00:56:56Steven Gerard
00:56:57Whether that was
00:56:58Michael Owen
00:56:58Fernando Torres
00:56:59Luis Suarez
00:57:00And I saw something
00:57:01In pre-season
00:57:02I don't see too often
00:57:03Mo Salah
00:57:04It felt like
00:57:05He was permanently
00:57:05Trying to pass
00:57:06To Vert
00:57:07When he was in
00:57:07Good goalscoring positions
00:57:08Now that's not
00:57:09The Mo Salah
00:57:09I know
00:57:10Or any of us
00:57:11Know too much
00:57:12But sometimes
00:57:12It's that feeling
00:57:13When you've got a great player
00:57:14You always want to connect
00:57:15You always want to give him
00:57:16The ball
00:57:16Because you know
00:57:17What the end outcome
00:57:18Is going to be
00:57:19You asked on a slot
00:57:20About Frimpong
00:57:21What are your thoughts
00:57:22Gary
00:57:22On how that
00:57:23Changes the dynamic
00:57:24It was interesting
00:57:25Because I was asking
00:57:25Cara about it
00:57:26He's obviously watched
00:57:27Quite a few of the pre-season games
00:57:28And you always remember
00:57:29Mo Salah being out
00:57:30On that wide area
00:57:31And Trent Alexander-Arnold
00:57:32Coming inside
00:57:33Into a midfield position
00:57:34So that he could
00:57:34Whip those crosses in
00:57:35Or switch play
00:57:36And the way in which
00:57:37Obviously it's been
00:57:38In pre-season
00:57:39And which aren't a slot
00:57:40Is it's going to be
00:57:40Maybe a bit old fashioned
00:57:41Where Salah comes inside
00:57:43A little bit
00:57:43And Frimpong goes on the outside
00:57:45And has that little
00:57:46Bit of an ability
00:57:47To beat players
00:57:47Look
00:57:48It mesmerises me nowadays
00:57:50What full-backs can do
00:57:51In terms of the ask of them
00:57:52The way they play on the ball
00:57:54They're up the pitch
00:57:55They're back
00:57:55The energy's huge
00:57:56The way in which
00:57:57They sort of
00:57:57Deliver into the final third
00:57:59I want to see him defend
00:58:02Of course I want to see him defend
00:58:03I want to see him
00:58:03Sort of put under pressure
00:58:05Maybe that won't happen
00:58:06As much tonight
00:58:06He'll get a little bit of that
00:58:08But when you play away
00:58:08From home in the Premier League
00:58:09It's a big ask
00:58:10So how he settles in away
00:58:11From home in the Premier League
00:58:12Obviously Kerkis has played
00:58:13In the Premier League for a bit
00:58:14So it's not as difficult for him
00:58:15But that'll be the big ask
00:58:16I would think
00:58:17Wouldn't it
00:58:17Yeah it will be
00:58:18And people have mentioned
00:58:20He's not a full-back
00:58:21He's a wing-back
00:58:21You think of the system
00:58:22That he played with
00:58:22Xavi Alonso
00:58:23By Leverkusen
00:58:25Now I've been a little bit
00:58:26Worried about some of his
00:58:27Start positions
00:58:28I mean both of us
00:58:28Has played in that position
00:58:29Probably a completely
00:58:30Different player
00:58:30To what Frimpong is
00:58:31And he's seen at times
00:58:33Actually as a right winger
00:58:34I think there's talk
00:58:34When Sarra goes to AFCON
00:58:36He may feel in that position
00:58:37But I think that's something
00:58:39That Bournemouth
00:58:39I think they can maybe
00:58:40Get a little bit of joy
00:58:41But that's
00:58:42That's something
00:58:43Liverpool have had to deal
00:58:44With for years now
00:58:44With people thinking
00:58:45They can get in behind
00:58:46Liverpool's right full-back
00:58:47Yeah so similar
00:58:48And maybe the only way
00:58:49Similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold
00:58:50Is that he's an unorthodox
00:58:52Right-back
00:58:53What about on the other side
00:58:54With Kerkers
00:58:55What have they got
00:58:56With
00:58:56What have they got
00:58:58From him
00:58:58Well I think
00:58:59Arguably the best left-back
00:59:01In the Premier League
00:59:02Last season
00:59:02He's still young
00:59:03He's very aggressive
00:59:04He wouldn't need to mature
00:59:06And at times
00:59:06Put the brakes on
00:59:07When he's going in
00:59:07To close people down
00:59:08But listen
00:59:09He's fantastic
00:59:10At overlapping
00:59:11And getting forward
00:59:11And that's what
00:59:12Arna Slott wants
00:59:13From his full-backs
00:59:14But he will know
00:59:15The opposition well
00:59:16And obviously the manager
00:59:17From the opposition
00:59:18Bournemouth tonight
00:59:18Will know him really well also
00:59:20I didn't mention
00:59:21Andy Robertson before
00:59:22By the way
00:59:22When he talked about
00:59:23Basically those players
00:59:24In the dressing room
00:59:24Of Van Dijk
00:59:25Obviously
00:59:25Alisson and Salah
00:59:27But he's going to be
00:59:27Really important
00:59:28Obviously not just as
00:59:29Back-up to him
00:59:30But he's a real good pro
00:59:32And I think you can't
00:59:32Have enough of those
00:59:33Types of players
00:59:34I know there's a thing
00:59:34Nowadays maybe
00:59:35That players don't like
00:59:36Being on the bench
00:59:37And they like to sort of
00:59:38Move when they get
00:59:39To the end of their careers
00:59:39And sort of play
00:59:40Somewhere else
00:59:41I think if Andy Robertson
00:59:42Can stay this season
00:59:43And play 25-30 matches
00:59:44He'll contribute
00:59:45Enormously to Liverpool
00:59:46Particularly backing
00:59:47That ladder
00:59:47When we talk about
00:59:49Players coming in
00:59:50We talk about the
00:59:51Importance of
00:59:51Premier League experience
00:59:52When you bring in
00:59:54Players like
00:59:55Birx and like
00:59:55Eketike
00:59:56Who played on
00:59:57The European stage
00:59:59How much of a difference
01:00:01Does Premier League
01:00:02Experience make
01:00:03If you've already
01:00:04Played at that level
01:00:05So what's the value
01:00:06That Kirk has
01:00:07I think Premier League
01:00:09Experience I think
01:00:10Is vital in terms
01:00:11Of just understanding
01:00:12The leagues
01:00:12Being around the grounds
01:00:13But I think particularly
01:00:14So why is it different
01:00:15Is what I'm trying to ask
01:00:16In a more concise way
01:00:17So in terms of
01:00:18If you've got top level
01:00:19Experience
01:00:20Why is top level
01:00:21Premier League
01:00:22Experience different
01:00:23I just think
01:00:23Getting used to the game
01:00:24Over here
01:00:25The speed of the game
01:00:26I think the grounds
01:00:26The crowds
01:00:27Everything that obviously
01:00:28We do over here
01:00:29Is different than
01:00:30In other countries
01:00:30I spent a brief time
01:00:32Over in a different country
01:00:33And found it very
01:00:34Very difficult
01:00:34Very brief
01:00:36You're not just asking
01:00:37A player to come
01:00:39And settle into
01:00:39The Premier League
01:00:40You're asking them
01:00:40To come in
01:00:41And settle at Liverpool
01:00:42Massive expectations
01:00:43A ferocious crowd
01:00:45That demand good football players
01:00:46So obviously
01:00:47Playing in the Premier League
01:00:48For Kirk has
01:00:49I've said the same
01:00:49About Embermo
01:00:50United
01:00:51And Cunha
01:00:52I think it's helpful
01:00:53That they've been
01:00:53In the Premier League
01:00:54That they've been
01:00:54Around the block
01:00:55And they understand
01:00:56The grounds
01:00:56And how the league works
01:00:57You know
01:00:58Who are the players
01:00:58That they're going to
01:00:59Be playing against
01:00:59And the physicality
01:01:00So just
01:01:01Beds you in
01:01:02There's more of a risk
01:01:03On Fring Pong
01:01:03Than there is on Kirk has
01:01:04Just purely because
01:01:05We've seen Kirk has
01:01:06In the league
01:01:06And he's competed
01:01:07Against some of the players
01:01:08That he's going to
01:01:08Come up against
01:01:09I mean you've talked
01:01:10About how attacking
01:01:11This Liverpool line-up looks
01:01:12And how attacking it looks
01:01:14As though Arna Slott
01:01:14Wants them to be
01:01:15What's the danger
01:01:17Of that against Bournemouth
01:01:18Is this the kind of team
01:01:19That you can go
01:01:20On the front foot against
01:01:22Yeah
01:01:22Yeah
01:01:23I mean
01:01:23I go back to something
01:01:24Pep Guardiola said
01:01:25Last season
01:01:26He was actually talking
01:01:26About his own football
01:01:27And saying
01:01:27This is not the football
01:01:28Anymore of the Premier League
01:01:29The football is
01:01:30What Bournemouth are playing
01:01:31End to end
01:01:32Full of intensity
01:01:34He's the man who knows
01:01:35A lot more about it than me
01:01:37And Tony good to see you
01:01:39Thanks so much for coming over
01:01:40Actually
01:01:40Jamie was just talking
01:01:42About Pep Guardiola's comments
01:01:43Last season
01:01:44That Bournemouth's style of football
01:01:45Was the style of football
01:01:47That is what the Premier League is now
01:01:49How different is it
01:01:51For you in these pre-season preparations
01:01:53With a whole
01:01:55Well three of the back four
01:01:56Have changed
01:01:57And the goalkeeper
01:01:58Yes it's a difficult moment
01:02:00Difficult period
01:02:00Especially these next two weeks
01:02:02I think there is a lot of uncertainty
01:02:04But we have to adapt
01:02:06At the end
01:02:06We cannot just look at the negative side
01:02:09We don't have these players
01:02:10No no
01:02:10We have new players
01:02:11We will have even more players
01:02:12And we have to build something again
01:02:14And probably it's not where you want to start
01:02:17Even if it's exciting
01:02:18But let's see where we are
01:02:20And I think this game also will give us
01:02:22Some more information
01:02:23How far along that road
01:02:25Of getting the players ready
01:02:26Can you get in pre-season
01:02:28Just working with them
01:02:29In pre-season matches
01:02:30And on the training ground
01:02:31Pre-season is always difficult
01:02:33Even if you have good games
01:02:34Good results
01:02:35I think today
01:02:38We will know more about our team
01:02:39We are facing the Champions
01:02:42Anfield
01:02:43First game of the Premier League
01:02:45A lot of eyes watching
01:02:47Especially Liverpool
01:02:48But also us
01:02:49And I think for the players
01:02:51You cannot ask for much more
01:02:53Than start here
01:02:53You just said your job's been made
01:02:55A lot more difficult
01:02:56Because of the losses in defence
01:02:57He lost the Barney
01:02:59To Paris Saint-Germain
01:03:01He had four years left
01:03:02On his contract
01:03:03Is that something that needed to happen
01:03:05Or was it just a case
01:03:05Of the opportunity for the player
01:03:07Was too big
01:03:07I think it's difficult
01:03:09When someone like PSG
01:03:11Winning the Champions League
01:03:12Comes from one of your players
01:03:14It's a matter of
01:03:15If they match
01:03:16You're asking price or not
01:03:18And it has been like
01:03:19A long summer
01:03:20But I knew that
01:03:22It was going to happen
01:03:23Because this kind of club
01:03:24They don't lose a player
01:03:25For three, four, five million
01:03:27And luckily for us
01:03:29I'm very happy for him
01:03:30But it's going to be a big miss
01:03:31Yes
01:03:32Does that mean tonight
01:03:33That your best form of defence
01:03:35Could be attack?
01:03:36You've got really good attacking players
01:03:37On the pitch
01:03:38We will try
01:03:39I don't know if Liverpool
01:03:41Will allow us
01:03:41Sometimes you want to play a game
01:03:43And we also
01:03:44Always are quite proactive
01:03:46And we will be ourselves
01:03:48But sometimes
01:03:48You are not good enough
01:03:50To do it
01:03:50And you have to defend
01:03:51And if we have to defend
01:03:52We will also do it
01:03:53But I think
01:03:55Our best way of playing
01:03:56Is trying to be aggressive also
01:03:58And make them sometimes
01:04:00Also run backwards
01:04:01Diakite
01:04:02He's the replacement
01:04:03You've mentioned
01:04:04Two centre-backs going as well
01:04:05What can you tell us about him
01:04:06Starting tonight?
01:04:08Yes
01:04:08I think he's
01:04:08He's a great defender
01:04:10For me
01:04:10It was probably risky
01:04:12To make him start
01:04:13Straight away here
01:04:14Just playing with us
01:04:15Two days
01:04:16But he has the experience
01:04:18Even being young
01:04:19He played here
01:04:19Past season
01:04:20In the Champions League
01:04:21He will know
01:04:22The atmosphere
01:04:23And I hope
01:04:24He can give us his level
01:04:26We know he has level
01:04:26It's going to be
01:04:28A little bit harsh for him
01:04:29Because he doesn't have
01:04:30These connections
01:04:31These things that you need
01:04:33With the teammates
01:04:33But we trust the player
01:04:36And I hope he performs well
01:04:38It's going to be a big game
01:04:40As well for Trifar
01:04:40I think he's probably
01:04:41The player that has been
01:04:43Most highly rated
01:04:44Certainly coming into Bournemouth
01:04:46Is that what you found
01:04:46Is that what you expect
01:04:47From him
01:04:48Yes Adrian I think
01:04:49Is a deal that
01:04:50Is what you want to do
01:04:52Before almost losing Milos
01:04:54We already had him
01:04:55And the transition
01:04:56Has been quite smooth
01:04:57Has been with us
01:04:58All the pre-season
01:04:59Has played all the games
01:05:00And I think he's adapted
01:05:02Really well to the team
01:05:03Who we have today
01:05:04Like all
01:05:05A bit difficult job
01:05:07Against Mossada
01:05:08But I hope he does well
01:05:10And he finds a way
01:05:11To survive
01:05:12What does success look like
01:05:14This season?
01:05:14I really don't know
01:05:16I really don't know
01:05:18You ask me a lot
01:05:18Goals and these things
01:05:20I don't trust
01:05:21In the long-term goals
01:05:23I think
01:05:24We have to be competitive
01:05:25As quickly as we can
01:05:26Now there is a
01:05:27Two, three weeks
01:05:28Period that I don't like
01:05:31Where you have to adapt
01:05:32But from there
01:05:33I think
01:05:34I trust the club
01:05:35And we will have
01:05:36Again another
01:05:37Different
01:05:38But another
01:05:39Good team
01:05:40And I hope
01:05:41We can be
01:05:41I don't know
01:05:41If we are going to be
01:05:42As good as per season
01:05:43But
01:05:43I don't think
01:05:46We should
01:05:46Straight away say
01:05:47No, it's going to be impossible
01:05:48Anthony
01:05:49Really good to talk to you
01:05:50Thank you
01:05:51Thank you so much
01:05:51For your time
01:05:52Thanks very much
01:05:53Always interesting
01:05:55To hear what he has to say
01:05:57Always seems like
01:05:57A very honest manager
01:05:58And very straightforward
01:05:59And what he's saying
01:06:01Feels realistic
01:06:03He's saying the players
01:06:04Might not be quite ready
01:06:06For the Premier League
01:06:06Just yet
01:06:07But is that to be expected?
01:06:08I think he's absolutely right
01:06:09He's saying basically
01:06:10He needs three or four weeks
01:06:11Not just to get games
01:06:12In these players' belts
01:06:13But actually to work with them
01:06:14On the training pitch
01:06:15And build that back four
01:06:16Into something
01:06:16That looks like a unit
01:06:17Well there's more build up
01:06:19To come from Anfield
01:06:21As we head into
01:06:21The last 20 minutes
01:06:23Before kick off
01:06:24As this new
01:06:25Premier League season

01:11:06New season
01:11:06New faces
01:11:07Milos Kerkes
01:11:08Formerly of Bournemouth
01:11:10Starts against this old club
01:11:11For Liverpool
01:11:12This evening
01:11:12Emmanuel
01:11:14Jeremy Frimpong
01:11:15Comes into the side
01:11:16In the place
01:11:17That was vacated
01:11:19By Trent Alexander-Arnold
01:11:20Now playing at Real Madrid
01:11:22And Liverpool
01:11:22Looking for goals
01:11:23From Hugo Eketike
01:11:25Who scored in the
01:11:26Community Shield
01:11:27Last weekend
01:11:27And from club record
01:11:29Signing
01:11:29Florian Vets
01:11:31And changes for Bournemouth
01:11:35As well
01:11:36With three
01:11:37Of the back four
01:11:38Looking different
01:11:39From last season
01:11:40Petrovic starts
01:11:42Trofa comes in
01:11:44In place of Kerkes
01:11:46Who now a Liverpool player
01:11:47And there's also
01:11:48A start in the centre
01:11:49Of defence
01:11:49For Bofode
01:11:50Diakite
01:11:51Gary
01:11:56Difficult to
01:11:56Judge this one
01:11:58With new faces
01:11:58On the pitch
01:12:00But when you look
01:12:00At those two sides
01:12:01What's your feeling
01:12:02On tonight
01:12:03How's it going to go
01:12:03Where's it going to be
01:12:04Won and lost
01:12:05Look I feel really
01:12:06Confident tonight
01:12:07This is going to be
01:12:07A fantastic game
01:12:08With lots of attack
01:12:09In play
01:12:09Lots of goals
01:12:10Excited to watch
01:12:12Verts and Eketike
01:12:13And how they settle in
01:12:14You don't normally
01:12:15See so much change
01:12:16In the championship
01:12:16The team that's won
01:12:18The champions
01:12:18Who were the champions
01:12:20Last season
01:12:20Frimpong
01:12:21Got right back
01:12:21I think it's interesting
01:12:22But I think for Bournemouth
01:12:23As well
01:12:24Their best players
01:12:24Are in attack
01:12:25And I love the idea
01:12:26Of this game
01:12:27Being sort of end to end
01:12:28And both teams
01:12:29Going for it
01:12:29And trying to score more goals
01:12:30Than the other
01:12:31I don't think we're going to see
01:12:32Teams sat behind the ball
01:12:33And defending deep
01:12:34And I think Arnes slot
01:12:35Had a great first season
01:12:36Last year
01:12:37Maybe there's a little bit
01:12:38More pressure on him
01:12:38This season
01:12:39Because of what to expect
01:12:40But he's got such a great group
01:12:42For players
01:12:43He's got fantastic
01:12:44World-class senior players
01:12:45In Alisson
01:12:46Van Dijk and Salah
01:12:48So if you're a Liverpool fan tonight
01:12:50You're looking for a real great start
01:12:52To see that
01:12:52Liverpool win comfortably
01:12:53As much as there are a lot of players
01:12:55Coming in
01:12:56There are also a lot of players
01:12:58Out
01:12:58Particularly at Bournemouth
01:13:00And so with all those
01:13:01Those changes
01:13:02Is there a sense
01:13:03That these are two sides
01:13:04Who aren't quite at the
01:13:05Peak of what they're going to do
01:13:07This season
01:13:07They're going to get better
01:13:08We've just heard about Bournemouth
01:13:09There
01:13:10I think he needs three or four weeks
01:13:11More to work with that back line
01:13:13And that's understandable
01:13:14So they're not going to be perfect tonight
01:13:15Liverpool are obviously
01:13:16They're going to get better
01:13:17The more these players
01:13:18Combine with each other
01:13:19And play together
01:13:20So yeah
01:13:20It's not going to be perfect
01:13:21But I think that could help
01:13:22The game in some ways
01:13:23Be a bit more unpredictable
01:13:24What will we learn
01:13:26From this game tonight
01:13:27Will we learn whether or not
01:13:29Liverpool are going to be able
01:13:30To defend their title
01:13:31Will it be that strong?
01:13:32No
01:13:32Because I think
01:13:33I'd expect Liverpool to win tonight
01:13:34Irrespective of what's going to happen
01:13:35Later on
01:13:36There's a lot more difficult
01:13:37Games to come
01:13:38But I think just seeing
01:13:39How the new players bed in
01:13:40How they handle Anfield
01:13:41In a Premier League game
01:13:43Virts, Eketike, Frimpong
01:13:45You know
01:13:46Kerkiaz obviously
01:13:47Coming from Bournemouth
01:13:48They're big nights
01:13:49You know
01:13:49Making your debut
01:13:50For a big club like Liverpool
01:13:51Is really important
01:13:52You do well
01:13:52It's the opening
