00:00you're coming up to Lancashire twice this autumn both Blackpool and Cone how are you feeling about
00:11that yeah I'm glad Cone's happening because I was supposed to be playing Blackburn and something
00:17went wrong with the theatre I don't know what if it was asbestos or something I was like shit I've
00:21lost my Blackburn date and I love going up to that part of the country because my local knowledge
00:25is really good I'm married to a girl from Manchester I live in Wilmslow in Cheshire
00:29your food is empty your car is leased and um so I just I know I've got the local knowledge I can do
00:35a lot of comedy all about the accents and things like that so I'm glad that this theatre I've never
00:40heard of in Cone has stepped in and I've managed to move my audience across so I'm really excited
00:44about that so you've not performed in Cone but have you performed in Blackpool Blackpool yeah loads
00:51obviously absolutely tons yeah and obviously this I'm married to a mank so they talk about Blackpool
00:56like it's you know the way someone from a faith will speak about Mecca or a Middle Eastern place
01:01or a temple that they have to go to so it's they've got like religious significance up here
01:06and they will talk about their childhood in the Dalmini Hotel and all the time we go to
01:10oh Markham as well don't forget bloody Markham Lindsay so I've been to Markham and Blackpool
01:15multiple times for leisure but I've also worked there and gig there a lot as well so I love I love
01:20gigging I've gigged in Blackpool Tower I've obviously worked there on the Strictly Project a little
01:24bit as well oh sugar sorry dropped my headphones so yeah it's a place I know really well
01:29yeah you mentioned Northern is viewing Blackpool as a bit of a Mecca but as an entertainer do you
01:34do you see the town as a Mecca as well yeah well the history is unreal I mean to perform in the tower
01:39which is where I was last time I don't know where I am this time might be the Grand Theatre something
01:43like that but the Grand was closed last time for refurbishment and so they said you're going to be in
01:49the middle floor of the tower I'm just the history of of the Strictly Dance Floor you know I had two
01:55hours in between my tech and my show and I was I was running around on the sprung Blackpool Dance
02:00Floor and it's not just that but my my mother-in-law is an ex-professional dancer and she's not just an
02:05ex-professional dancer she used to be on Come Dancing when it was hosted by Terry Wogan back in the day
02:10so she spent a lot of her creative life dancing in Blackpool in that very tower so it's you know I do get a lot
02:17of brownie points from the northerners just for playing Blackpool it's like Vegas really in it
02:21it's like it's like the Vegas of of England so that that's pretty cool playing that regardless of
02:26where people are in the country why should they go get the tickets to see maybe your last hyperactive
02:31shows I just feel like if you want something from comedy where you're going to laugh till you're hurt
02:37but you'll also be changed and get something positive from it there's a lot of debate about
02:42whether stand-up comedy is an art or whether it's just an entertainment like watching telly or
02:46something if we go to see classical music that's art if we go to the gallery that's art if we watch
02:51Shakespeare that's art Emma Dale no one's calling that art so where is stand-up is somewhere in
02:58between but stand-up can be something that has artistic merit and my my criterion is are you changed by
03:08what you've seen in a meaningful way that's what I seek to do whilst injuring you with laughter
03:14someone literally had a heart attack and had to come back and watch the show at another venue at
03:18one of the gigs I do I mean it really goes off in the first 20 minutes and then and then we we change
03:24gears and we fucking take the piss out of the stuff that really matters why aren't we living a full life
03:29why don't couples fuck each other why are young people bellends that are offended by everything
03:33you know why was Greg Wallace cancelled for making a joke at work was it right yeah I'll go there and
03:39we explore it if this show has the most likes you've ever done does that mean it's your best show yet
03:44I would say so every show comedian does should be better because they're more mature and you know
03:50more things about life so unless you're experiencing some sort of cognitive decline or performance-based
03:54decline there's no excuse for the show's not improving I'm a massive advocate for continued growth
04:01throughout life there is no statistics anywhere that proves human beings stop growing past any age
04:07it's a complete fucking myth do not give in continue to grow and change and you should expect the same
04:13from your comedians as well
