A fine and sunny end to the day for many, but cloud across eastern areas will spread westwards overnight, producing the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. Staying mild, with temperatures holding up in the low to mid teens. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 17/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Tom Morgan.

00:00Hello again.
00:01It was a fine sunny and warm end of the weekend for many of us and if you're after any rain
00:05in the week ahead then you're likely to be fairly disappointed with the dry theme set
00:08to continue.
00:09I wanted to start by showing you this satellite image though, taken earlier on Sunday.
00:13Have you noticed that the sky has been fairly hazy at times over the last few days, the
00:17sun and the moon having a slightly different colour to it?
00:21Well, part of that reason is due to some Saharan dust and smoke that's been in the atmosphere
00:25across the UK.
00:26We've had some very severe fires across parts of Portugal and Spain in recent days and this
00:31layer here is actually smoke that's been drifting northwards across France and into parts of
00:36the UK.
00:37The white here out towards the west is actually clouds.
00:40So we are likely to see somewhat hazier skies at times over the next few days and any rain
00:45that does fall could even bring some of that smoke and particles down to the surface so
00:49the cars might turn a bit dusty for example in the next few days if you do see any rain.
00:55But it is set to stay dry and high pressure is going to dominate through much of the week
00:59ahead.
01:00Maybe the odd spot or two of rain in a few showers courtesy of these weather fronts across
01:03the far south and south-west on Monday and Tuesday.
01:06Otherwise though high pressure is set to bring a dry week for all of us.
01:10But back to Sunday evening then and it's a sunny and warm end to the day for many of us but
01:15out towards the east we have got more in the way of cloud and as we go through Sunday
01:19evening and into the early hours of Monday that cloud is going to spread its way gradually
01:23westwards across the UK perhaps even bring the odd spitting spot of drizzle at times in
01:29place mainly over the high ground.
01:31But that cloud will act like a blanket so temperatures aren't going to be falling particularly
01:34low tonight.
01:35Most towns and cities for example staying at around 14 to 16 degrees Celsius so a milder
01:40night to come compared to last night.
01:43The breeze will ease across the south-west of England as well but here we could just see
01:47one or two showers later in the night and certainly through the daytime on Monday there's the
01:51potential for the odd heavier shower for Cornwall and even the odd rumble of thunder
01:55as well.
01:56Otherwise it will be a dry day.
01:57That cloud generally tending to slowly break up as we go through the course of the morning
02:02into the afternoon but I fancy across parts of the Midlands and more especially north-eastern
02:06parts of England and around the coasts of eastern and northern Scotland it could stay
02:10grey for most of the day and if that is the case then temperatures will be suppressed
02:14and it will feel quite cool particularly on North Sea coast just 17 degrees for example
02:19in Newcastle so feeling fairly chilly here.
02:22Otherwise though with the best of the sunshine temperatures reaching the mid-20s in some places
02:26and certainly feeling very warm indeed where you do see that sunshine.
02:30Still a few showers around through the afternoon into the evening for south-west England and
02:35maybe south-west Wales as well but generally dry for most places through Monday night and
02:39into Tuesday that cloud on North Sea coast will once again spread its way slowly south-westwards
02:45into more central and some western parts of the UK by the morning on Tuesday so once again
02:50it's not going to be a particularly chilly night temperatures in most towns and cities
02:54at least staying up in the teens Celsius.
02:57But it does mean that Tuesday will once again begin on a fairly cloudy note.
03:02Some breaks in the clouds so some sunshine for many western areas for example Northern Ireland,
03:06parts of Wales in particular but once again we'll see that cloud but more persistent out towards
03:12the east there's still the chance of a few spits and spots of drizzle at times more especially
03:16across north-eastern parts of Scotland where we could see some slightly more persistent rain
03:21for a time and there'll still once again be a chance of some showers across south-west England
03:25and maybe the extreme south of Wales as well potentially even the odd heavier bursts with the odd rumble
03:30of thunder.
03:32The highest temperatures on Tuesday a bit more displaced towards the south where skies brighten
03:36through the afternoon so the mid-twenties once again should feel pleasantly warm indeed
03:40but overall quite a bit cooler compared to over the weekend elsewhere.
03:45Temperatures down quite a notch across parts of Scotland just 17 to 20 degrees and if you
03:50are on some of those North Sea coasts it will feel fairly chilly with highs just 17 or 18 degrees
03:55Celsius.
03:57So if you're interested to know just how long this dry spur is going to last and whether there's
04:00change on the way for the bank holiday weekend then do make sure you're following us on our
04:04social media channels but that's everything from me and I'll see you again very soon.
