You mentioned it before, you touched on it in the first segment, Musaev's win over Umolotov.
00:07
Umolotov was undefeated.
00:08
You know, both these guys came in without a loss on that record.
00:11
And Musaev looked great.
00:12
You know, Umolotov tried some different things, tried the takedowns, he couldn't really stick,
00:15
tried to find his spots.
00:16
But, you know, in the end, the power of Musaev is what finished it off, that beautiful setup.
00:21
You know, it's one thing to knock a guy out, but when you know what you want to do against
00:25
him, when you've kind of read him enough that he fakes the right and then blasts him with
00:28
the left and puts him to the mat, that was just a thing of beauty with Fight IQ.
00:33
It really was.
00:34
Someone like Musaev, he's a really good counter-striker, great takedown defense.
00:37
And it's funny, I had a conversation with Big John McCarthy prior to this, and when
00:40
him and I were talking about this fight, he goes, a lot of people are going to assume
00:43
that Umolotov is a better wrestler.
00:46
And he's not.
00:47
Really, Musaev is a better wrestler.
00:49
And what we've seen out of Umolotov the last few seasons of the PFL with his success is
00:53
he either lands that big shot earlier or he's able to out-wrestle everybody.
00:57
If he can't do that, what happens?
01:00
What is plan C?
01:02
The answer?
01:03
He doesn't have a plan C. That was why I mentioned when we spoke that I thought Musaev would
01:07
get it done here.
01:08
Musaev is a very underrated fighter.
01:10
People may not just not know who he is.
01:11
They should know who he is now because I think this is someone who's one of the, I would
01:14
say probably top 10 in the world in this weight class regardless.
01:19
Striking just looks so crisp, his takedown defense, such high Fight IQ, patient.
01:24
He even smiled a little bit when he won a million dollars and the belt.
01:27
So it was nice to see a little bit of personality there.
01:30
I'd love to see him next season or even fight for, you know, fight maybe the Bellator champ,
01:35
whoever that may be at the time.
01:37
I'd like to see some personality out of this guy, though.
01:39
They call him the silent assassin.
01:40
I get it.
01:41
But, you know, crack a smile, make a joke, say something here, Shamil, because this guy
01:46
has potential to be a star with his fight style.
01:49
Not everyone has to have that Conor McGregor mouthpiece.
01:51
You go out there and you're knocking people out, especially high level.
01:54
You will get there.
01:55
And I think that's someone that the PFL really has in Musaev.
01:59
He certainly showed that what a great talent he is, and we'll see what is next for him.
02:03
But just ferocity and that fight IQ is something you love to see.
02:06
You're not just about like, hey, I can punch you and you can go down, but like, I can know
02:09
what you're going to do from what I've done, though, that feel our process.
02:12
You learn people don't realize, you know, the actual thoughts that go on behind some
02:15
of those strikes, but he showed it there.
02:17
You talked earlier about Robotnov and how much of a badass he was against Primus.
02:21
He gets the victory, a third round finish for him as well.
02:24
You know, he showed the power a number of times, knocking Primus to the mat there in
02:27
those three rounds before he gets the finish.
02:29
But, you know, a former champ of Primus, a tough guy, and to be able to do what Robotnov
02:35
did to him just shows how tough he is.
02:37
Yeah, this was just a really bad stylistic match for Brent Primus, but you can't control
02:41
it when you're in the season format.
02:43
You fight, you got to fight in the finals.
02:44
Primus is always, in the season and in his successful career, has been able to wrestle
02:49
guys, use his jiu-jitsu, and land a power punch to do it.
02:52
He wasn't the better wrestler here.
02:54
We talked about this.
02:55
If this fight was a stand-up, if he doesn't land that big shot, which he has power, he
02:58
was going to lose.
02:59
And I will say this, too, about Robotnov, he's going to go back and he's going to watch
03:03
his fight.
03:04
He's going to be kicking himself in those first couple of rounds because when he dropped
03:06
Primus, he went to the ground with him, and I did not understand that.
03:10
Finally, he listened to his team when he dropped him, let him back up, and then it was the
03:14
beginning and the end that eventually sent him to the shadow realm.
03:17
So guys, Robotnov is a very good fighter.
03:21
Very few mistakes other than, you know, you don't need to follow Brent Primus to the ground,
03:24
give him time to recover, or even let him get his jiu-jitsu game going.
03:28
That fight on the feet was all him.
03:30
I love Brent Primus.
03:31
I thought he had a fantastic season.
03:33
Obviously, it was a very tough loss.
03:35
I think he'll be back.
03:37
Really great fight, and Robotnov, back-to-back knockouts to close out the season for him
03:41
was an excellent showing.
03:43
Yeah, I agree with you the way he was fighting that earlier, where he was getting that guard
03:46
that first round.
03:47
I thought, you know, obviously, they probably wouldn't because the refs never do for whatever
03:50
reason, but I thought he could have even possibly given Primus that first round because of the
03:54
aggression from the back with the sub-taps, but they never seemed to give the credit for
03:58
that that it deserves because he kept going from sub-tap to sub-attempt, and, you know,
04:02
was kind of the more aggressive fighter for most of that time on the mat.
04:05
But either way, the finish in the third is what ends it.
04:08
And last off, the big heavyweights, Golsov versus Popov.
04:12
You know, big guys, big hands.
04:14
You expect maybe to get a grueling battle of guys trying to see who finished each other.
04:19
Didn't really take down that leads to a submission for the first time in 17 fights for Golsov.
04:25
I'm so happy for Golsov.
04:28
As long as I've been in the PFL, we always kept saying, is this his year?
04:31
Is this his year?
04:32
He really is one of the more well-rounded heavyweights.
04:35
He's got a great soundball background, good wrestling, good subs.
04:38
On the feed, you saw how lean he looked.
04:40
Very athletic, big guy, but for some reason, whenever he got to the finish line, he just
04:44
fell short.
04:45
And in this one, I did not love how easily he got taken down from Popov, but that submission,
04:49
that triangle, very well done.
04:52
If he fights Francis Ngannou next, he's got to get his wrestling going because we know
04:55
the type of power Francis has, but I'm very happy that Golsov finally got to the finish
05:00
line.
05:01
Well-deserved.
05:02
Great guy.
05:03
Great fighter.
