00:00We do see Donald Trump. He is slowly making his way down the stairs of Air Force One onto the tarmac in Anchorage, Alaska.
00:22And here is Russian President Vladimir Putin also exiting his aeroplane.
00:30For this landmark summit.
00:32Philip.
00:33Philip.
00:34Philip, the two leaders coming out at the same time as we're watching these images.
01:03It has to be said, you know, to look at these images, Donald Trump had to walk a long way to get to the red carpet, whereas Vladimir Putin, the red carpet right at the bottom of the stairs.
01:14Is that something that will be a sign of how these talks are going to take place as a long way for Donald Trump to walk before he's going to get anything out of Vladimir Putin?
01:26Vladimir Putin, who, going on the red carpet straight away, must be feeling quite confident as he's arrived there in Anchorage.
01:32Vladimir Putin much more with a fast step coming down those aircraft stairway much more quickly than Donald Trump did coming down from Air Force One.
01:43I think optimism, caution, nervousness, there are many adjectives that one could use at this moment ahead of these talks, ahead of the handshake that we're going to see, presumably in a few minutes.
01:57It'd be interesting to see the body language of the two leaders.
02:01Will they exchange a few words?
02:02Will they smile?
02:04Will they be courteous?
02:05All of that we're going to find out in the next few minutes.
02:08But both leaders have now arrived in Anchorage.
02:10So the beginning of a very important day that has been building up and many people have been talking about for years since the start of the war.
02:18Here we go.
02:19The handshake.
02:35And a pretty cordial first impression between the two men.
02:43Lots of smiling.
02:44A pretty warm handshake.
02:46Not one of those very masculine handshakes that Donald Trump has been known to give in the past.
02:51Two men seem to be chatting to each other.
02:54Interesting to see.
02:55You know what language they're talking to each other.
02:57I'm sure that Donald Trump doesn't speak Russian.
02:59And I'm not sure how good Vladimir Putin's English is.
03:02I think he does speak some English.
03:04So an important day.
03:07And I think probably both leaders are pretty relieved that they finally got to meet each other because this has been dragging on for so long.
03:14The idea that Putin and Trump were going to meet.
03:17Well, they finally are meeting.
03:18Remember, this is the first time they've met for eight years almost.
03:24So an important day forward for both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
03:29But a day when there is an awful lot to play for.
03:34Another series of handshakes.
03:39Very interesting to see the two men so isolated as they came out of the planes together at the same time.
03:48More symbolism there as well.
03:50So no declaration from either man, either leader ahead of those discussions today.
04:00Pretty unlikely that Vladimir Putin was going to make a declaration.
04:04Not sure about Donald Trump because Donald Trump does like talking to the press.
04:07So we'll have to wait until later to see whether or not there is a press conference, whether it's a joint press conference.
04:15Even Donald Trump was unsure about that when he was laying down the agenda of what was scheduled to happen today in Anchorage.
04:26And the other point being that there seems to be some kind of difference in that agenda in that the United States made it pretty clear that the talks were going to last an hour or so.
04:39And then there would be a joint session between the two leaders and their advisors.
04:46And then there will be a press conference.
04:47Now it appears that according to the Russian delegation, these talks could last between six and seven hours, which is something that wasn't remarked upon by the United States when they were giving out information about the agenda.
05:03And also now it looks like face to face one to one talks, which is what Donald Trump said was going to take place is also off the agenda with the two leaders meeting with two special advisors at the same time as with their fellow president.
05:21So still uncertainty about how exactly this day is going to move forward from now onwards.
05:27But both leaders have both arrived now in Anchorage for that extremely important day of negotiations and anticipation, especially amongst the people of Ukraine.
05:39Nick Holdsworth, we've just seen the two presidents coming into the joint base, Elmendorf-Richardson and entering into the beast.
05:49That is the car that we associate with the United States president.
05:53They are both sitting in the car as we speak.
05:56In terms of a meeting which Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson touted, will go on for around seven hours.
06:04What does that also say about the significance of these talks?
06:07And does that lead to something that could be more or less successful?
