00:00The Bureau of Customs, or BOC, has scrapped its time-consuming and redundant QR code scanning process
00:06with the mandatory X-ray baggage screening already in place,
00:10performing the exact functions to speed up passenger boarding,
00:14as our Luisa Erispe tells us in this report.
00:18In traveling to the Philippines, more often than not,
00:22passengers experience long queues as soon as the plane lands at the airport.
00:27Moreover, there are several gates, one needs to pass through,
00:31and QR codes that need to be filled out and scanned.
00:34Fortunately, the Bureau of Customs, or BOC, has made this process faster and easier for inbound passengers
00:41because starting today, they have suspended a QR code system
00:45for the declaration of taxable goods for arriving passengers.
00:57BOC explained that they are not canceling the e-travel QR code required for passengers.
01:16They only require that QR codes be scanned only once for those who do not have taxable goods that need to be declared.
01:22This will save up to 15 to 20 minutes processing time for each passenger.
01:27Merong idideklara na meron silang hawak na dapat masingil ng pamahalaan natin.
01:36Diba meron diyang something to declare, nothing to declare.
01:40Yung mga nothing to declare, gerediretso na sila dapat.
01:44Yung merong mga dapat ideklara na kailangan natin makuha na ng buwis,
01:48yun yung mag-QR code sila.
01:52The BOC assured, this is not to loosen the security imposed on border controls,
01:57and this will not allow more passengers to smuggle goods.
02:00Rather, this is for convenience of travelers, but still with tight measures of security in place.
02:07With the help of x-ray machines, the BOC can still determine whether there are undeclared,
02:12misdeclared, or illegal items being smuggled.
02:35Luisa Erispe from the National TV for a new and better Philippines.
