00:00New York City, on your own!
00:20Hello! Good morning, this is Taylor.
00:23Today I woke up and I decided I want to walk
00:26the entire length of Manhattan, New York City.
00:28Because why the heck not?
00:29I got two working legs, comfy shoes,
00:32and a concerning amount of confidence.
00:33So let's do it together and go see some really, really
00:35iconic parts of New York City along the way, shall we?
00:52A rarity.
00:59We made it.
01:03So we are at the tippity-tippity-top of Manhattan.
01:07That's Inwood Hill Park right over there.
01:09It took me like an hour on the express train to get up here.
01:14And as we were passing each stop, I was like,
01:16I'm gonna be walking all of this.
01:18But the subway was pretty productive.
01:19I came up with a loose plan, kinda.
01:22Let's walk and talk.
01:23We're burning daylight.
01:24So, the plan.
01:25I decided I want to start this journey by just covering some serious ground.
01:29Because the length of Manhattan is 13.4 miles.
01:34However, I'm not gonna do it in 13.4 miles.
01:36Because the spots that I kinda wanna hit, you know,
01:39we're gonna do a decent amount of this.
01:41And it's actually gonna be closer to 16 miles.
01:44So, 16 miles.
01:46You wish you were only walking 16 miles today.
01:50Think again, loser.
01:51And you know, 16 miles, I'm kinda like,
01:53well, that's a long way, obviously.
01:55But I'm just walking, no problem.
01:57No!
01:59I'm already a pretty big walker.
02:00Like, I walked 11,000 steps yesterday.
02:02Kind of a lot.
02:03That's only five miles.
02:05So, today we're doing 16.
02:07And we're doing, like, things along the way, too.
02:09It's just not one straight route.
02:10So, anyways, that's why I decided...
02:12Wow, this is beautiful.
02:13That's why I decided I'm just gonna commit to doing
02:16four and a half, five miles before we do anything crazy.
02:19Because the second I start popping into bodegas for snacks, it's over.
02:23And I am very prepared for my lower back and my feet
02:26to be a bit sore by the end of the day.
02:28But it's all good in the name of adventure, am I right?
02:33Alright, we'll check back in soon.
02:35Why should I even try...
02:37First totally idiotic move of the day.
02:39I started walking the wrong direction for, like, 15 minutes.
02:43God.
02:44I'm trying to be aware of my surroundings.
02:46And when I look up and the street is now 218th.
02:50But I could have sworn I started at 208th.
02:52We need these numbers to get smaller, you see.
02:55And they're getting bigger.
02:56Whatever, I got a little warm-up and turning back.
02:59That's crazy.
02:59I'm very rarely, like, that disoriented.
03:02Never in New York.
03:02Almost never.
03:03You know what that experience taught me?
03:04That I needed a coffee.
03:05First impressions though, this area is very interesting.
03:08So, like, to be very clear, this is all brand new territory for me.
03:12I've never been out here before.
03:13I couldn't have done this on a better day.
03:16Wait, should we go through the spring track?
03:17That's not actually real good.
03:18Couldn't have done this on a more perfect day.
03:19It's only a high of 79 today.
03:20And it's going in the 90s.
03:21Okay, so first impressions of my first two miles almost.
03:23So cool.
03:24I just really, really love exploring brand new places that I've never been within my own
03:40city, especially.
03:41And I've pretty much only heard Spanish being spoken, so there's definitely, we're going
03:46to walk through a lot of different diasporas today.
03:48And that's, like, such a great part about New York.
03:50I'm excited to see it all in one day.
03:52We got the old and the new.
04:00Still walking along this really nice park.
04:02It reminds me a lot of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, where I have spent a lot of time, a lot of
04:06my favorites in the city.
04:07Didn't realize we were in San Francisco.
04:09I did hear the rumors that there were hills this far north of Manhattan, BC versus Lower
04:14Manhattan where I live.
04:15It's pretty flat.
04:16But, uh, we're walking up the hill.
04:19As you can see.
04:20Can you tell?
04:21All right.
04:22Just passed the George Washington Bridge, which is cool.
04:23We're making progress.
04:24But I realized how much further I still have to go.
04:25Because if you look on a map, that bridge is like, it still looks like it's at the tippy
04:38top.
04:39But, you know, we're feeling good.
04:40We're complaining a lot for no reason.
04:41This is fun.
04:42Having a good time.
04:43We're at mile four, roughly.
04:48I went from Broadway to Amsterdam for a change of scenery because Broadway admittedly gets
04:52a little cray cray.
04:53It's like super busy and kind of have to navigate around people.
04:57And time is kind of of the essence.
04:59I worked backwards on my timing for this, trying to plan being at the very southern tip right
05:04around sunset.
05:05And that's, of course, baking in that I'm going to stop the food in the bathroom and like
05:09filming and stuff.
05:10So I'm putting it a little tight, as I do.
05:17Can I just do this bag of cherries, please?
05:19Yeah, perfect.
05:20Thanks.
05:21All right.
05:22We are in Harlem.
05:23We're making our way, guys.
05:24I was getting a little peckish.
05:25Makes sense.
05:26Didn't eat very much this morning.
05:27So I just bought a full bag of cherries that I'm going to pick at.
05:29It was $4.
05:30Pretty good, if you ask me.
05:31We are, let's see, which street are we on?
05:32146th Street.
05:33And our first stop is about 30 blocks away on 116th Street.
05:37Well, it'll take about 30 minutes.
05:38So I'm just going to eat a bunch of cherries.
05:39We'll see how many I eat in 30 minutes.
05:40And I'll talk soon.
05:41All right.
05:42First bathroom break of the day.
05:43First of all, LA wishes.
05:44But yeah, I got to pay.
05:45Well, shit.
05:46I don't pay cash.
05:47Also, look.
05:48I just bought a full bag of cherries.
05:49I bought a full bag of cherries that I'm going to pick at.
05:50It was $4.
05:51Pretty good, if you ask me.
05:52We are, let's see, which street are we on?
05:53146th Street.
05:54And our first stop is about 30 blocks away on 116th Street.
05:56Well, it'll take about 30 minutes.
05:57So I'm just going to eat a bunch of cherries.
05:59All right.
06:00First bathroom break of the day.
06:01First of all, LA wishes.
06:02But yeah, I got to pay.
06:04Well, shit.
06:05I don't pay cash.
06:06Also, look.
06:07Not a bathroom in quotations.
06:09That makes me think it's a bathroom.
06:11You know?
06:12That's basically like saying, oh, guys, trust me.
06:15It's not a bathroom.
06:17And then it was a closet.
06:19They got me.
06:20Good thing it's not an emergency.
06:21But you know, keep an eye out.
06:23I'm sure there's a bathroom in there, whatever that big establishment is.
06:29We made it to our first stop.
06:31This is Columbia University.
06:32For those who don't recognize these iconic buildings.
06:35I haven't been here since I toured Columbia when I was in high school.
06:39I came to the East Coast and looked at a bunch of the schools.
06:42I did always love this campus.
06:43And it would be really cool to go to college in New York City, I imagine.
06:47Anyways.
06:48All right, all right, all righty.
06:50Howdy.
06:51So I thought I would take a wee bit of a breather and actually chit chat with you guys for a sec.
06:56Because we've actually made some serious ground.
06:58We're now in the part of Manhattan that I'm familiar with.
07:00So I feel like, you know, that's a win.
07:02We've done more of this than I expected.
07:04So anyways.
07:05Thought I would take this moment to go over my goals with you guys for today's challenge.
07:10Goal number one.
07:11I just want to prove to myself that I can do something totally pointless, but very challenging.
07:15Not that I have any doubt that I can do that.
07:17I know I can, but I've just had an itch lately to do something really hard.
07:22It's important to do hard things.
07:23Might as well make a fun adventure of it, right?
07:25Goal number two.
07:26I want to get a little sweet treat at some point today.
07:29I already got a sweet treat with the cherries, but I have a different one in mind around mile 12.
07:34It's going to be awesome.
07:35Goal number three.
07:36Even though this is obviously a very active day.
07:39I also want to treat it as an opportunity to slow down a little bit and notice the details of this amazing city that I call home.
07:47I also want to walk a lot of these miles in complete silence and just let my ideas and thoughts come and go as they please.
07:53So that's goal number three.
07:54Just be in touch with my surroundings.
07:56Goal number four.
07:57I want to find the single most New York thing New York moment possible and capture it on camera.
08:04Shouldn't be too hard.
08:05But honestly, a lot of those moments happen in the subway and we're not taking the subway today.
08:08So we'll see.
08:09And goal number five.
08:10Have fun.
08:11But actually, this is supposed to be fun.
08:13I'm just, it's not that serious.
08:14Without further ado, let's go get an iconic cup of coffee not too far away.
08:19Also, I completely snapped onto this campus.
08:22Not on purpose.
08:23Like I wasn't trying.
08:24I mean, yes, I walked on on purpose, but by the time I came in, I realized you need a pass to be here.
08:28But I'm not causing any trouble.
08:30But maybe don't do what I did.
08:32All these like academics and prospective students walking past me filming myself putting sunscreen on.
08:37It's okay. I paid my dues.
08:38I went to college.
08:39Not this college.
08:40So I guess I didn't, I didn't pay any dues.
08:42All right.
08:43Y'all just left a few minutes to go, but we're already approaching our next check-in point.
08:50Tom's restaurant.
08:51This is the Seinfeld diner, which is cool.
08:53I've never, well, I'm sure I have seen it.
08:55I just didn't realize that this is what it was.
08:57I'm not going to eat here because I'm not quite ready for a full meal, but let's get a cup of coffee and charge the phone a little bit.
09:10Fun fact about me.
09:11There are a few things that I love more than diner coffee.
09:15Unless it's burnt, but this one's not burnt.
09:17All right. That was a nice little pit stop.
09:19Two full cups of diner coffee.
09:21Nice little refuel.
09:23Arguably, I should probably get some food in me soon.
09:25I have a spot in mind and it's about another 30 blocks.
09:33Also, how am I feeling at this point?
09:34Thank you for asking.
09:35Good.
09:36You know, my Strava is showing that I'm almost eight miles in.
09:40I'm going to rack up the miles today.
09:41Final guess.
09:42I would put mileage by the end of the day, not including, you know, waking up and getting to the subway to get to the top.
09:48I'd just be in for the adventure.
09:50I put that mileage at about 18.
09:52Is that too high?
09:53Maybe.
09:54We'll see.
09:5517.8.
09:56Final answer.
10:00I'm officially squarely in the Upper West Side.
10:03I'm on the same, like, latitude, actually a bit further down now than the very, very top of Central Park.
10:08For those who have been to New York, you know how big Central Park is.
10:11So we still got a ways to go.
10:12I'm not even halfway done.
10:13I'm not even halfway done.
10:18You know, I've been absolutely craving some fish food.
10:24That's not going to be my little sweet treat.
10:26The sweet treat comes much later.
10:28Guys, I'm getting teased.
10:30I've been right.
10:31By other sweet treats.
10:32I mean, believe me, this is some of my favorite ice cream.
10:34But I'm holding off.
10:35I'm getting real food soon.
10:36In about 17 blocks.
10:39Excited.
10:40It's an iconic spot.
10:41And then a sweet treat much later.
10:43Gotta hold off.
10:44All right, guys, we are in Knox territory.
10:49What I do love about the Upper West Side is I think it really, really combines the old and the new quite well.
10:56All right, I'm not going to lie.
10:57The two cups of coffee with not too much food has made me a little shaky.
11:01And nothing has whetted my appetite more than the smell of popcorn walking past that AMC.
11:06We made it.
11:10Iconic New York City grocery store, deli, and other things too.
11:18Okay, guys, so I'm in the wrong place to order a bagel with cream cheese and lox.
11:25However, I did meet a new friend who also has a YouTube channel.
11:28What's your channel name?
11:30Rafael Sine R TV.
11:32Did you talk about movies, you said?
11:33Yes, I talked about a movie.
11:35I published a book about a movie.
11:37And I'm writing another about all the movies.
11:43Oh, no way.
11:44Actually better than I expected.
11:46I absolutely inhaled that.
11:48It was a good bagel.
11:49I liked it.
11:50I think of myself as a bagel connoisseur at this point.
11:52The bread itself was freaking delicious.
11:54And then I'm just having the biggest New York day.
11:56So of course I had to get it with lox and cream cheese.
11:59And it was, it was just so good.
12:01Highly recommend Zaybars.
12:02Absolutely stunning townhomes here in the Upper West Side.
12:06These remind me of kind of a combination of the Victorian style homes in San Francisco.
12:12And then ones that you'll see in like Kensington in London.
12:16So beautiful.
12:17I've actually not seen too many of these in New York, this kind of style.
12:21I really, really like it.
12:22Beautiful.
12:23Wow.
12:24Our next location, we're not going in there, but this is the American Museum of Natural History in Central Park.
12:33Yeah, I just thought I'd walk by to show y'all, even though we obviously do not have time to go in.
12:37Matter of fact, I needed to hustle a little bit, if I'm being honest with you.
12:41But here, take a look at the Central Park towers.
12:44All right.
12:45They're still kind of far away, but we can see them.
12:48I think I'm going a little, a little crazy because I'm seeing pigeons everywhere.
12:52And I'm just saying, pigeon.
12:54There were two of them playing and I said, du pigeon.
12:56I don't speak French.
12:57Wow.
12:58That's epic.
12:59Oh, and uptown.
13:00That's where we came from.
13:01Way up there.
13:02Whoa.
13:03It's actually so crazy that Central Park exists in the middle of like the most vertical city, which is such a cool phenomenon.
13:15I'm so glad that this land was protected and I don't come here as often as I would like.
13:19Cause I mean, there's no, oh my God, I see a cavalier.
13:22Sorry, but it's the first one of the day and that's a big deal.
13:25Oh my God.
13:26Oh my God.
13:27Oh my God.
13:28Oh my God.
13:29Oh my God.
13:30Love your dog.
13:31Wait, sorry.
13:32Like I was saying, I should come more.
13:33It's just like the coolest park in the world.
13:39A New York moment.
13:40Can I capture it?
13:41Can I capture it?
13:42I got it.
13:44That was pretty New York.
13:55Wow.
13:57You just wouldn't believe that I'm in the smack dab middle of New York City.
14:02You could go down so many different trailists, not see a single person.
14:06Could I come here more?
14:23No music.
14:25Sound of birds.
14:27And that's all I hear.
14:30That's crazy.
14:32wavelength.
14:33On Bow Bridge.
14:34There is a life I lead in this city.
14:38Wow.
14:39On Bow Bridge.
14:43There is a life I lead in this city.
14:50Wow.
14:52What a beautiful day we got, too.
14:58Oh, my gosh.
15:00I'm not too proud either, because I'm doing this on a weekday, obviously.
15:09Oh, that's really cute.
15:27I wanted to run through a bubble, too, and then I remembered I'm 27 years old.
15:30We're on the Central Park Mall, which is this long walking stretch.
15:37It looks fake.
15:38Couldn't have come at a better time in the summer when all the trees are just freaking fluffy as hell and green.
15:46It's stunning.
15:52Hey.
15:53I really don't deserve a break.
15:55I mean, I do.
15:56I've walked, like, 12 miles, but we have a long ways to go.
15:59But this is just too iconic of a spot.
16:01I couldn't not do a quick little segment here.
16:04Let me get a little closer.
16:05You can't see anything from there.
16:06Let me get you.
16:07Let me get you.
16:07I'm coming.
16:08I'm coming.
16:09I bet I have hat hair.
16:11Howdy.
16:12Hello again.
16:13Quick check-in, because I want to.
16:16I thought I would show you guys what I packed for today.
16:18A little what's-in-my-bag section.
16:20I wanted to do backpack, even though it's not cute.
16:22I'm a backpack girl.
16:23I like to go hands-free.
16:24Water, of course, which I refilled along the way.
16:27I'll have some right now while I'm thinking about it.
16:29Hat.
16:29The goal, of course, was to pack light.
16:31So I took what I normally carry in here out and put in the only things I needed.
16:35Okay, I left a few things in here.
16:36I have chapstick.
16:37I brought my phone charger, obviously, because I have and will continue to need to charge that
16:42phone over the course of the day.
16:43That's all I'm filming on.
16:44I brought band-aids just in case, although I don't even feel the slightest bit of a blister
16:48coming on, which is nice.
16:49I got the information from that guy at Zabar's.
16:51Pepper spray, just in case.
16:53Besides that, these are just things I've accumulated over the day.
16:56This is a fresh Zabar's baked pita.
16:59I just bought that.
17:00This is my bag of cherries.
17:02You know what?
17:02Let's have a few right now.
17:03Mm-hmm.
17:05Mm-hmm.
17:05My sunscreen.
17:06My spatula.
17:07The heaviest thing I'm carrying is my tripod, which I'm currently using.
17:11Besides that, this is it, guys.
17:13That's it.
17:14Anyway, quick morale check-in.
17:16I'm feeling great.
17:17My legs, like, they're a little tired, but they don't hurt, you know?
17:21And my Strava shows that I've walked 12 miles.
17:24So, once again, a lot of zigzags, and it's currently 5.13 p.m.
17:28Sunset is around 8.
17:30Yeah, I don't think we're tracking to be by the bottom tip by 8, but that's okay.
17:33I'd rather hit the cool spots and have a good time along the way than rush for sunset
17:37and skip cool things, you know?
17:38All right, without further ado, let's keep going.
17:41But I'm glad we got to sit here for a bit.
17:42This is Sheep Meadow, and it's just the coolest view ever from any park that I can think of.
17:47You know, urban park, that is.
17:49Okay.
17:50Enough chit-chat.
17:53Next stop.
18:02That is the billboard I was on once upon a time.
18:05I never really talked about that in a YouTube video.
18:08Anyways, pretty neat.
18:17Is this a walk in the lake?
18:19Like Manhattan?
18:20Or if I didn't walk through Times Square?
18:22No.
18:22This is insane, though.
18:23This is slowing down my pace.
18:25I hope it's never.
18:41I'll make you one a sunny day.
18:4742nd street, it will feel like this street is special to me, or at least holds a place in my heart, very shortly.
18:57Oh my gosh, some of you who are longtime viewers might recognize my background.
19:02This is my first apartment in New York City, this is the first place I lived,
19:08and I'm going to stop in and see if my old doormen are still there and if they remember me.
19:13I don't know, I kind of wanted to take a little mini walk down memory lane while doing this, so here we are.
19:18I never revealed, like, out loud where I live, but this is Silver Towers in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, on 42nd and 11th Avenue.
19:29Great first place to live. Here we go, let's see.
19:31Oh, hi! I just wanted to say hi, I was in the neighborhood. Do you remember me?
19:35Yeah.
19:36Oh, I'm good, it's good to see you.
19:37Aw, that was sweet. Tomas, the doormen who I was the closest with, wasn't there, but Elise, who I also knew pretty well, was there.
19:44We chatted for a few minutes.
19:45Anyways, we're going to walk down memory lane. We're actually walking down memory lane for a second here, I'll show you.
19:50We are walking that way towards my old office.
19:54When I first moved here, the building that we were just in, all these other ones in Hudson Yards, they weren't even built.
19:59And now they are totally filled out, and I'm not up in this area very often, so it's my first or second time seeing it, like, fully built.
20:07All of these, really. Well, not all of them. I worked in one of them, but, you know.
20:11Okay, and then this is the Javits Center, which is just a freaking huge center where a lot of conventions host and all that funny.
20:18This is where I spoke on my very first panel as part of my YouTube career, and that felt like a very full-circle moment for me,
20:24because I used to live over there, and then I spoke here, but I used to work in consulting here.
20:30So it just, it felt like a very full-circle moment when I was here again.
20:34That's my old office.
20:35It weirdly feels like it was just yesterday, but also a lifetime ago at the same time that this was my walk to work.
20:42It feels more like a lifetime ago than just yesterday.
20:44But you might recall Baby Taylor did some vlogs right here, and here I am four years after moving.
20:53Crazy.
20:53All right, a little update.
20:55I am in the Hudson Yards Mall for a little bit, charging my phone.
20:58It's at 32%, and we got to make it all the way to the bottom tip, and I need, like, 50% for that.
21:04Also, morale check-in.
21:06I'm sitting by the bathroom, feeling pretty good.
21:08I will admit I'm starting to get just a little bit of soreness in, like, these areas, but still no acute pain.
21:20I'm just sitting on the ground eating chariots.
21:22I feel like a feral cat.
21:23When people walk by, I just want to go, and we're back.
21:26Farewell, old office.
21:28Farewell, vessel.
21:29We're taking the High Line down, baby.
21:35And there's my friend Shervin's apartment.
21:37See all the saunas?
21:38And then there's a bunch of ice baths right beyond that wall there.
21:43I'm not even doxing him.
21:44He posts a lot of videos from there.
21:46Anyway, I just think the High Line, I've always thought it is so cool to be purposing of, like, a railroad that used to run through here.
21:53Now they've just built some really, really awesome real estate.
21:56I mean, this is crazy.
21:57This is a soft hop.
21:58I'm never reading all about it.
22:00First time I saw it.
22:01I actually talked about it in a video years ago.
22:03That's a cool example of one.
22:04But then you also have old things, too.
22:06So it's just a cool combination, once again, of the old and the new.
22:09I think I'm pretty drawn to places that do both really well.
22:12It was especially during this part of the walk that the challenge started to feel less like a physical feat and more like a walk through a portal into my past.
22:20Sounds cheesy, but it's true.
22:22The apartment where I lived in my early days in the city, the office where I worked long hours in consulting, the city streets I walked on daily.
22:28They all represent some chapter of my life where I had some of my biggest wins, my biggest fails.
22:34I learned who I was and who I wasn't.
22:36It doesn't usually hit me quite as acutely as it did on this walk, just how much this city has shaped me.
22:42Step by step, block by block, it felt like I was stitching all those versions of myself together.
22:47It reminded me of how far I've come and how much further there still is to go.
22:51And these buildings are just pretty insane as well.
22:54These are by the same architect who did the vessel from Hudson Yards and Little Island, which I was going to take you guys to, but I don't think we'll go there after all.
23:03All right, y'all, I'm going to be honest with you.
23:04Yeah, I was fully prepared to go into Chelsea Market, which is iconic.
23:09I thought I'd be ready to eat again by now because the last time we had a real piece of food was at Zabar's up on the 80th Street, but I'm just not that hungry.
23:18Partially, number one, because I just ate like 30 more cherries on the ground from the mall.
23:24And then B, I'm still saving myself for that sweet treat.
23:28Yeah, you remember that?
23:29Still haven't gotten it.
23:30We're on our way.
23:30We're really close, actually.
23:31New Yorkers, you might be able to guess where we're going.
23:33It's in West Village, classic New York spot.
23:36Little sweet treat, little pick-me-up.
23:38I'm excited.
23:38And that's the second stomach, okay?
23:40I know I said I wasn't hungry.
23:41Dessert, separate stomach.
23:42Guys, I gotta tell you, couldn't be more thrilled with the weather.
23:45Oh, Starbucks Reserve Roaster.
23:47Fun fact.
23:48You know how you can get your free birthday drink?
23:50Whatever you want from Starbucks on your birthday?
23:52Well, if you live in a city with a Starbucks Reserve, you can also get one of those drinks
23:58as your free birthday drink.
23:59And those ones cost a lot.
24:00So, kind of a fun hack.
24:01I did that last year.
24:02I wasn't sure if it was going to work, and it did.
24:04I got a big old fancy drink.
24:06I've always loved this cobblestone area and meatpacking.
24:19I just think it's really, really pleasant.
24:27Guys, it's golden hour.
24:29You have an hour and three minutes until proper sunset.
24:33We'll see where we get.
24:36Beautiful cobblestone streets in the West Village.
24:39All right, we are nearing our sweet treats.
24:42I'll give you a hint.
24:43We're on Bleaker in the West Village.
24:45Where could we be going?
24:50Did you guess it right?
24:52Did ya?
24:53Did ya?
24:53Did ya?
25:03Everybody's jackin' in.
25:05Okie dokie.
25:06We had a bit of a time crunch at this point to make it to the bottom by sunset, but I've
25:10got to sit for a second and eat my sweet treat.
25:13If you guys don't know, Magnolia Bakery, Banana Pudding in New York City is pretty much
25:20as classic as you can get.
25:21And you guys might be like me, where you think, oh, banana pudding, how good can it be?
25:25Maybe you don't even like it.
25:26That's what I thought until I had this.
25:27Seriously, it is just, I mean, it's ridiculously good.
25:30Also, just like, such a quaint neighborhood.
25:34Oh my god.
25:36All right, we'll take the rest on the road, but sweet treat, succeeded.
25:39All right, this is Perry Street in the West Village.
25:41It's the one with Carrie Bradshaw's really, really nice townhome.
25:44It's on that street.
25:45This whole entire area really is quintessentially most cute New York City.
25:49Okay, I'm making our way.
25:50We're actually going to pass my very first apartment when I interned in the city.
25:54I don't consider that my first real apartment because I only lived there for a summer when I
25:58was interning in finance the summer after my sophomore year.
26:06I showed you guys in my fall vlog, but I used to live right here for reference.
26:11That's Three Lives Bookstore.
26:12That's the Van Leeuwen's on the corner.
26:14And it was a really, really fun place to live.
26:16Although I was too young, I think, to live in this area.
26:19I kind of need more disposable income to live here.
26:21But it was very fun nonetheless.
26:27And then that is Stonewall.
26:29Which is a major historic site for LGBTQ rights.
26:38Quick pit stop.
26:39I feel like I have to come here.
26:40I'm walking the length of Manhattan.
26:42It's like Times Square.
26:42We're going a couple streets out of the way because I want to go down my favorite street
26:54in Soho where I think you get the best view of the quintessential crown molding, high ceiling
27:01art lofts that Soho is so famous for.
27:03I mean, here you can already see the cobblestones and some of my favorite architecture, so.
27:13And here is the shot.
27:16This is my favorite shot to get.
27:18I just think that these ones all in a row are so cool.
27:22And then you get the Jenga building in the background, too.
27:25This is a bit of an eyesore today.
27:26It's not usually like that, but I'm glad we walked down the street.
27:29A little morale check-in.
27:31My feet hurt.
27:32They do.
27:32Once again, I wouldn't say it's like a super nagging acute pain, but the fatigue is definitely
27:38hitting.
27:38These puppies, you know, I'm very thankful for them, though.
27:41They take me far and wide.
27:42They take me fast when I want them to.
27:44I don't know.
27:45I could get emotional if I thought about it too hard.
27:47I'm at an age, and hopefully I will be an age for a long time where I could just kind
27:51of do this at the snap of my fingers when I want to, and to be physically able to do
27:56so, and to have a fiery enough spirit.
27:58Whatever.
27:58We don't have to get into that.
27:59But I'm very thankful for my legs today.
28:02Crossing Canal.
28:07Major milestone, if you ask me.
28:09Because Canal's like pretty far south.
28:10We're getting there, guys.
28:11The World Trade Center is looking bigger and bigger.
28:13Not so far out of reach anymore.
28:15No, we're not in Chicago, but they have a bean here too.
28:21Kind of cool, huh?
28:22Wow.
28:23I look funny.
28:27Okay.
28:28That's enough.
28:29Wasting my battery on silliness.
28:31Had to come by.
28:32Passing through Tribeca.
28:33This is Staples Street Sky Bridge.
28:36And it's just kind of an iconic Tribeca landmark.
28:39All right.
28:39We're not there yet, but this is very rewarding.
28:42It's so close.
28:43And we're actually going a bit beyond, but it is a very, very helpful beacon.
28:47This is a very, very pleasant walk.
28:49And there's a nice breeze.
28:50It almost feels like a warm fall day, but a fall day at that.
28:54We've made it to the Oculus.
28:57It is quite the sight.
28:58It was open to the public in 2016.
29:01Designed by Valencia, Spain-born architect Santiago Calatrava.
29:05And I know it ended up being twice as expensive as the budget allowed for.
29:09Classic.
29:10And it's right across from Ground Zero.
29:13These are the two footprints of where the Twin Towers used to be.
29:16Roped off after a certain hour, but it is a very, very well done memorial.
29:19The 9-11 Museum is also very well done.
29:23Highly recommend a visit if you want to go.
29:25And then here is the Freedom Tower.
29:28It is so big.
29:29It is just so big.
29:30When you look up at it, you almost lose balance.
29:35We are past the World Trade Center.
29:37That is behind us.
29:38We're almost there, guys.
29:39I'm actually, you'd think I'd be taking it easy here at the end.
29:42Uh-uh.
29:43I'm actually debating jogging because it's getting dark.
29:46Not for safety.
29:47There's plenty of light.
29:48There's plenty of people out.
29:49I just want to be able to get a good shot at the end.
29:52We just hit the 20-mile mark.
29:54I didn't come this way for nothing.
29:56We actually are jogging the rest of the way.
29:58Thank you, Bugs.
29:59Thank you, moms.
30:00Thank you, New York.
30:01Thank you, all the cool people in the city.
30:03I'm coming for you.
30:07Okay, I'm not going to film me jogging the whole rest of the way, but I promise I'm doing it.
30:11Oh, my God.
30:12I see it.
30:15And we're doing it.
30:17We're actually feeling pretty good.
30:19I'm jogging.
30:20There's good ground.
30:22It's me.
30:23I hate it.
30:24I hate it.
30:30Oh, my God.
30:34I'm so sweaty.
30:36Jeez.
30:36That's the Statue of Liberty, believe it or not.
30:39And this is me at the very, very tip now.
30:47Wow.
30:54Oh, my God.
30:55I don't even know what to say.
30:56We did it.
30:57Goal number one was to prove to myself that I could do something totally pointless but very challenging.
31:02Did I meet that goal?
31:03Hell, yeah, I met that goal.
31:04I actually never questioned that I would finish, but I think I underestimated how hard it would be.
31:09My legs and feet held up as good as I could have hoped.
31:1221 miles.
31:12Oh, did I even tell you guys I clocked in at 21 miles total?
31:16And what did I guess?
31:1617.8.
31:17Final answer.
31:1817.8.
31:19And I thought 18 would be a crazy guess.
31:22I'm closer to a marathon than a half marathon today, which is kind of crazy.
31:26And I know some people run that all the time.
31:28Good for them.
31:29That is not the kind of exercise I do.
31:31So this was very challenging for me, but so incredibly rewarding.
31:35Goal number two, sweet treat.
31:37Obviously, I hit that goal.
31:38I have the magnolia pudding.
31:39Actually, I ate it all.
31:42Goal number three was that even though this was going to be an active day, I wanted to also take it as an opportunity to slow down, notice the details around me, just really be in touch with my surroundings.
31:52Did I achieve that goal?
31:53I did.
31:54I will say, though, that I think it made me realize, if I may say so, I'm already pretty good at this.
31:59It's not that uncommon that I'll run into a pole or something because I'm just looking up and noticing the buildings and the architecture and all that good stuff around me.
32:07But aside from patting myself on the back, I think that what it did was just like it reinforced my love for the city and all the different kinds of people in it and the different neighborhoods and how they each have such distinct personalities.
32:19It is just remarkable and it was an absolute pleasure to walk through.
32:23It just gave me a very, very deep reinforcement and appreciation for New York.
32:27Goal number four, did I find the most New York moment possible and capture it?
32:31Ooh, you know, I might not have reached that goal.
32:33What did I see?
32:36I'm just replaying it all in my head.
32:38I saw a lot.
32:39Just say I failed this goal.
32:40That's okay.
32:40A New York moment.
32:41Can I capture it?
32:42Can I capture it?
32:44I got it.
32:45That was pretty New York.
32:47Goal number five was to have fun.
32:50I had a lot of fun.
32:51Today is one for the books.
32:53I know I'm going to remember this forever.
32:55I know I'm going to refer back to it a lot.
32:57Whenever I go somewhere in the future that I went to today, I know I'm going to say, oh, I did that on my turtle walk.
33:01I just know I am.
33:02Turtle walk for close friends and family.
33:04Length of Manhattan walk for all the other schmucks.
33:07I'm just kidding.
33:09Without further ado, thank you guys for joining me.
33:12If you made it this far, this video is going to be crazy to edit.
33:14That's a lot of footage, but I hope you had a fun time with me.
33:17I hope you got a sense of New York and enjoyed my musings and ramblings.
33:21Thumbs up if you enjoyed this.
33:22It helps my channel a lot.
33:23And subscribe for more huge New York challenge days like this.
33:27I have a lot in mind and I'm looking forward to doing them soon.
33:30So let's call an Uber home, shall we?
33:33Turtle out.
33:35Tempting.
33:37I won't do it.
33:38We're feeling good, even though we're going up this hill.
33:41Look at it.
33:42Look at it.
33:43It doesn't look like a hill.
33:45Those are some nice apartments.
33:48I will take two, please.
33:50It's a pigeon.
33:51Oh, that's a nice stoop for filming.
33:55Do I do it?
33:56No.
33:58We continue on.
33:59Honey, honey, honey, baby.
34:02Oh, yeah.
34:04I'll get it so bad.
34:05Well, tonight.
