00:00this room needs some work okay it's not that bad I kind of admittedly have nailed the out of sight
00:10out of mind method where I can make my room look pretty spotless but I need to but you go just one
00:18layer deeper you open my drawers you look under my bed you look in the dark corners of my closets
00:28it's not pretty so when I say deep unclutter I really mean it but why is it important to declutter
00:35all this stuff if I can't really see it anyway well a couple reasons first my days in this New
00:42York City apartment may or may not be numbered and before I tackle that whole moving process I need
00:49to trim the fat I want to have to pack up as little as possible but second and more importantly as far
00:55as I'm concerned this is fake organization yes of course it's better than this visible mess I'm just
01:04gonna keep roasting this person but when I actually have to dig into one of these bins and get something
01:09I feel the chaos I know it's there and it still weighs on me I want it to feel organized through
01:15and through and finally I just really value having less stuff I want everything that I own to pack a
01:22punch to have a use and to have a place in my small New York City apartments like what is this
01:28why do I have this CVS receipt what is it actually 42nd Street this is from my last apartment this is
01:35probably two three years old oh actually I do know why I saved this well still you get the point but I
01:41want to be smart about this because historically I've been okay at best at the whole declutter thing
01:49not because I can't get rid of stuff but because I get very easily sidetracked you might not guess
01:54that about me but it's true but if you're anything like me where you're clean on the surface but
02:00underneath you could probably do a little bit of sorting and you get easily sidetracked from
02:04project to project well I got a lot of tips and tricks coming for you in this video so let's get
02:09started okay first things first we need a game plan and I know just the way Claude as someone
02:25who gets easily sidetracked and jumps around from task to task make me a game plan on how to best
02:29tackle a deep declutter of my New York City apartment bedroom for context my room looks clean but under the
02:35surface I have a bunch of storage bins with a bunch of junk in them game plan complete okay
02:40the one bin at a time method makes sense start something actually finish it yeah yeah message
02:46received okay phase one setup I actually I printed what Claude told me to do day one 30 minutes girl
02:54we're doing this whole thing in one day I should have told Claude that did I even tell you guys that
02:57yeah I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow and I can't keep waiting for life to kind of slow down for me to
03:03actually tackle this task I just got to do it and making this video and having only one day
03:07left in the city feels like two pretty good excuses to just get it done all right set up three designated
03:13areas keep donate trash all right donate will be this trash bag and trash will go into
03:28a brown trader joe's bag pro tip I keep these I keep them under my sink and then I use these to
03:36transport my little trash downstairs I really wanted to write donut we got our trash and then I really
03:49like the idea of setting a timer for each session to prevent endless wandering endless wandering okay
03:55okay Claude you see right through me all right phase two the systematic attack nice two to three
04:02weeks maybe two to three hours how about that one bin per session 45 minutes let's do 20 minutes and
04:08then start with the bin that bothers me the most I think I know the one and believe it or not it's not
04:14even one of these it's under my bed no it's not an aritzia bag full of aritzia clothes but rather it is what I think all of us have in our
04:25homes or at least a place our homes where we just collect random shit it's not junk most of this I will
04:33keep it just doesn't have a designated home all right our systematic attack dump everything out so
04:40I could see it and it makes it harder to put it back in its original container quickly sort with snap
04:44decisions in place the keeps back in the original container neatly well as I said we're getting rid of
04:49that whole container so let's get started I'll set a timer for 20 minutes 20 minutes starting now
04:55there's my pepper spray
04:59oh my BCG badge corporate Taylor RIP
05:06plastic knife nice Taylor
05:10snap decisions snap decision that I like that
05:16that was easy others will not be so easy also the reality of that one is that I kept most the
05:25stuff and it's gonna need to be reassigned into my bins and I did that with time to spare now we can
05:34actually tackle these other bins now which one of these bothers me the most ooh tough to say I think
05:41this one bothers me the most oh interesting I don't even know these were in here well that's the point of
05:48this whole thing isn't it wow this is a perfect example of a bin that has no theme it's like
05:54Mary Poppins you'd think not much more it could come out of this bin but there's more oh that's really
05:59cute that's my problem and some change wow okay goodness you know something Claude did say to do
06:08clean the inside of the bin so I'm gonna do that real quick with my favorite toy my handheld vacuum
06:15okay
06:18a set a timer for 15 minutes we're getting faster all right I already see right here that I have just
06:25within sight six sleeping masks here six and I really only need one oh there's actually seven
06:32very nice so I'm gonna donate all those oh my god guys I wear contacts but you know it's good to
06:41have a pair of glasses too these are the ones that I wore in college sometimes they're Warby Parker
06:46Warby Parker was started by Wharton students and I feel like Peter Parker they're actually kind of cute
06:52my eyes have gotten worse since I got these tiny hairbrush I don't brush my hair that sounds crazy
07:01but I can just use my fingers oh but I love my little sponge balm brush I remember using this a lot
07:07earmuffs can go over there
07:09donate okay guys we did a bin and I'm realizing this needs to be split out into two
07:22we're learning we're adapting okay Claude also said that I get a little treat after each bin
07:27don't mind if I do and then when we come back up we're actually we're not going to do every single
07:32bin just yet because we need to focus on something else I'll show you but until then let's get our
07:37little treat also I'm watching some of these videos back and I don't like the cut of this where
07:41the straps is I don't like it we're changing should we do something fun and silly I don't have
07:47anything fun and silly I don't this is kind of fun and silly it's fun and silly because it says moist
07:55which is just one of my favorite words but this is from the best barbecue I've ever had in Texas
08:02right outside Houston shout out corkscrew okay let's get our little treat
08:06little treat also I don't know if you guys can hear my voice I'm sure you can but I am
08:36unfortunately a wee bit under the weather which is just great for going on a trip right now
08:42but you know what helps with that little treat little treat all right I put my little treat in
08:50this thing so as much as I would love to do all the bins in one fell swoop we do need to tackle this
08:55so I'm pretty good with my clothes all the clothes that I own are in these two dressers
08:59but there is still plenty here that I don't wear anymore and what are the rules for deciding
09:06whether or not to keep clothes does it spark joy have I worn it in the last year I think we got this
09:12one pile at a time baby
09:13okay these these categories are a little bit different keep donate
09:25and my favorite so for those who don't know this is a serious nod or throwback at least
09:32to the origins of my youtube channel I started my youtube channel during quarantine
09:37when I was reselling clothes from home as a little side hustle to stay busy make a little bit of money
09:43became completely obsessed with it I absolutely love selling things online I love shipping them
09:47fun fact about me I really love selling and shipping things and a lot of the things I have
09:53are things that I thrifted or bought at like buy sell trade stores that are good brands
09:57for example right here these I got not for cheap but like at a buy sell trade store so they were
10:03second hand and they're veronica beard trousers this is a brand where these probably retailed for
10:07like 300 bucks originally but they're just too short my legs are too long maybe I don't know what
10:12shoes I was wearing that day but somehow I didn't notice that they were way too short on me so
10:16if you're interested at all I'm gonna list all of these on my Poshmark if you want to get any of it
10:21I'll ship it to you personally and write a little note for you too I love including little notes
10:25not to get overly sentimental about decluttering but going through all of this really did make
10:32me reflect on how much has happened over the past few years like finding a shirt that I used to wear
10:37all the time or some random cheap pair of sunglasses buried at the very bottom of one of my bins all
10:43these things kind of felt like a time capsule from a different phase of life excuse me baby of course
10:48it's nostalgic but it's also freeing and exciting to let some of it go and make space for whatever
10:54there is to come next oh my god my little treat honestly nice it's not that different than when
10:59we started wait it does look different because I got rid of some pants nice wow what would gen z say
11:04go off minimalist queen I'm literally gen z all right you know where I think we're gonna need to do even
11:10more paring down over here oh my god and this whole area really bothers me but that is a separate discussion
11:16okay okay and then this like I'm not wearing my college stuff anymore but obviously I'm keeping
11:23this do you know how many 3 a.m. nights I pulled wearing this and my sweatpants I really let myself
11:28go during college like fashion wise actually do I keep this hang on hang on I think this is a case of
11:36duplicativeness let's see let's see let's yes I was right okay we both know I only need one of these
11:41actually they're both they're kind of different oh it's like that scene from double wears prada
11:46I don't know they're just so different but they're not actually that different okay let's pick one
11:51okay it's looking a little messy now this is like the try-on pile this is the sell pile
11:56yeah okay back to the bins
12:00so mini life update I just finished watching the wire for those who don't know the wire is
12:08widely considered to be one of the best shows of all time I am just so blown away at this show
12:15it's about the drug scene in Baltimore but it's not just a drug scene it's the police department the
12:22detectives the news outlets the local government how there's corruption but also necessity within each
12:28of them and how they all come together in this ecosystem of Baltimore as a city and it is just
12:33such a deeply complex show let me tell you like you cannot turn your brain off while watching that
12:39show but there are dozens of storylines going on at once but when they all come together the payoff is
12:46just so crazy it is such a good show I am confident that I will be re-watching it in a couple of years
12:52oh I did have an extra toothpaste I needed this a couple weeks ago ah I know the video is probably
12:58getting a little repetitive I want to make sure that we're doing a change of scenery so we're doing a
13:03little bit more of an official little treat after I finish this bin you'll see
13:08oh money I have all these different currencies where is this from Hong Kong cool oh that's another
13:17thing I wish that I had my shit together when I was traveling through Japan and Hong Kong a couple
13:23years ago because like now I have my travel vlog system down if you don't believe me you can go watch
13:30the recent travel vlogs the mini Asia series but a couple years ago you know I would just get to
13:35these locations I'm keeping this and be like oh I should film everything wait no I don't want to film
13:40I just want to enjoy it but now I know how to enjoy it and also film enough of it to make a good video
13:45so I'm sad that I didn't get videos in Hong Kong and Japan like two of the coolest places that I've been
13:50but I'll go you know it's a good excuse to go back this is actually a really cute throwback these are
13:56the first pictures I took on this disposable camera at during the first party that I ever had in this
14:01apartment oh this is cute yeah that's where we went afterwards good memes we'll keep that you know
14:07what I can start to do is like group things for example I have a lot of toothpaste and so I can put
14:13all my toothpaste in one big bag how about that okay that feels good this feels good all right we can
14:22start doing more things like this okay sweet that's another bin you guys oh Hong Kong dollars
14:30and that's gross okay I know that's only two but I need to get out of this apartment so let's do that
14:40shall we oh I love the summer so much
15:00anyways here's what we're really here for
15:07grocery secured I wonder how many cumulative minutes I've filmed inside Trader Joe's at this
15:21all right this is a decluttering video so I'll make this part quick but it's a really yummy meal
15:41that I've been making a lot recently so I thought I'd show you I call it my slop but really it's kind
15:45of like a turkey chili with a lot of stuff in it so I call it my slop anyway this recipe is very very
15:50random it's just like a hodgepodge of ingredients that I had in my pantry one day and then I asked
15:55Claude hey Claude here are the things I have what can I make and then Claude gave me something very very
16:01close to this and then I've been making it ever since I love red peppers so much I have to make
16:07sure it's not poisonous one more for good measure
16:14and that's it yummy all right guys that was less of a little treat and more of endless wandering
16:39we are losing daylight I actually have to get this done one fell swoop let's do the rest of the bins
16:44we'll make this quick but first it's actually really hot in here I need to change my shirt
16:48again this is different than the first one I promise okay this is junk this is junk wait this
16:55is nostalgic junk that's different I'm keeping it three different USB to USB-C cables do I keep one
17:02of them two of them just in case nope Taylor that's what we're trying to not do okay fine extra bed sheets
17:08for when I have guests Taylor you only have one bed yeah but I might have two beds at some point and I
17:13like hosting people okay fine keep the sheets all right now we gotta put it all back in a way that
17:20makes sense okay okay okay you might have thought we were near in the end and we technically are like
17:28the bins are definitely the bulk of the work but I have a whole other category of things that are a bit
17:35unusual and you might judge me for it but indubitably a big perk of my job is that I get sent a lot of
17:42stuff to try out it's just more than any one person can use at one time and for me it's mainly really
17:49really great skincare products makeup and skincare I mean this right here you can already see is from
17:54Kiehl's which is freaking crazy at least I could do is put you on right to some good stuff anything
18:00Kiehl's is my favorite but anyways yeah I have a lot of PR and the least I could do
18:06is kind of organize it
18:10that might have seemed like a lot because it was but I have a whole other box so let's do that
18:18really quick speed run listen I recognize the absurdity of this and that it is just so much stuff
18:26anyways this is actually coming together these are not permanent bags for these things but they are
18:33now categorized which feels really good
18:36we'll deal with that later
18:39wow huge guys all right we organized the PR final stages we are reallocating we got three left
18:49so far I have medical so this one didn't change too much I just really organized things so all the
18:54vitamins that I have are in here just group things together and I know where everything is even if it
18:59doesn't look clean this one writing supplies so stationery and stamps I write a lot of letters he
19:04this was a gift but it's really really fancy stationery and a lot of post-it notes and pens and then over
19:11here we have office tools both of these are office stuff but the difference is these are more like stuff to clean my
19:17computer scissors I reach for these all the time and again it might not look organized but believe me I've labeled
19:23everything everything has a place and I know what's in here even if it looks kind of me
19:28okay now three bins left this is gonna be a big task because as you guys saw in the beginning I have a lot of like
19:36hygiene and health adjacent things q-tips deodorant contact solution that kind of stuff where I'm not
19:42talking about the PR that's different and I need to figure out how to best sort it into those remaining bins
19:47good news is I think we freed up a whole bin because one of them just had a bunch of random shit in it so let's get started on that separation process
19:52okay all right my guess is that the best way to do this is going to be to have one that's overall hygiene and then like more beauty adjacent stuff
20:07take a shot every time I say the word adjacent in this video and you'll be hammered
20:12do I keep the spongebob brush do I keep the spongebob brush I think I keep the spongebob brush
20:24okay this feels like a pretty good start I think we figured it out
20:28all right let me tell you what an unlock it was to have a whole travel bin
20:43because now anytime I have oh a little random teeny tiny thing here I just put many things in here
20:49and I can pick from them when I go traveling then you know things that I bring them in
20:53so here's what I ended up with guys you already saw these two
20:58nope you already saw these three boom travel huge we already talked about that
21:02these didn't have as clear of a distinction as I was hoping but I think I got it
21:07so this is all dental eye care and just hygiene and again even though it looks messy
21:12all of these things are now labeled and in bags
21:16how great is that hell yeah the slight downside of making each one of these bins
21:21more efficient and having an actual place is that I no longer have a junk bin that goes back in that
21:28corner and that one's kind of hard to get to so I have to figure out which one of these I would use
21:31the least wow I mean it looks obviously the same there's not like going to be a crazy exterior before
21:38and after but I was honest about that in the beginning because I'm pretty good at the out of sight out of mind
21:44but now I know that it's clean inside the bins too which makes me so so happy
21:48the slight unfortunate reality is that all of these bags of now organized PR
21:54still do not have a space in my bedroom I don't have enough space in here
21:58and so I'm kind of just going to wait out for my new apartment where I'll have a coat closet
22:03or some other kind of communal closet where I feel comfortable putting all that stuff
22:06but for now I think it's going to have to go back in my wardrobe
22:09but at least I know it's organized and that really does a lot for me
22:14so
22:14in case you guys couldn't tell Claude was a huge help with this whole entire process
22:21from the one bin at a time method to setting a timer to prevent endless wandering
22:26to inspire me to get my little treats between sessions and letting me know exactly where I can
22:30donate some of this stuff I am absolutely obsessed with Claude I use him every single day for
22:34lots of different kinds of things and if you want to try him for yourself you can click the link in
22:38my description model 4 just came out it's more powerful than ever highly recommend so thank you to
22:43the anthropic Claude for partnering with me on today's huge deep declutter I hope you guys got
22:49some good tips and tricks out of this I can at least speak for myself this is the most successful
22:53deep declutter I personally have done ever so thank you guys for joining me
22:59I will see you soon until next time turtle out you know what let's just make things easier for the
23:07rest of the video does it look chaotic because it is I don't have anything fun nor silly this is where
23:13I usually stand when I drink my morning coffee I would stand on this but I think this is a death trap
23:18oh that's a nice shot so cute and tiny I think this every time I pass this sign this guy's name is
23:24unfortunate for no fewer than two reasons little treat little treat I'm talking to a box of sardines
23:34because I pre-recorded the Claude result on my phone but I'm using my phone to film you get it I needed
23:40something else
