Border Czar Tom Homan spoke with reporters on Tuesday about the role ICE is playing in President Trump's crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C.
Transcript
00:00I just wanted to get an update on ICE being involved with the D.C. efforts here.
00:05Can you expand on their involvement in the crackdown here in Washington, D.C.?
00:11I think the president made the right call on, you know, cracking down on crime in D.C.
00:16I mean, I've been in D.C. for several years.
00:19I won't walk the streets without having a gun.
00:21I mean, it's just the violence and crime is terrible here.
00:25Yeah, ICE is one played well.
00:27You know, ICE officers are trained in police tactics, too.
00:31You go through the ICE Academy, there's a huge force in the Academy on police duties, police responsibilities, you know,
00:39whether it's constitutional rights, handcuffing, you know, all sorts of things.
00:45They're outside the ICE realm that we train, cross-trained in police duties,
00:49so we're all trained to help in any mission that comes from all forces.
00:52Mr. Hellman, D.C. says 100,000 Americans have signed up to be a part of ICE.
00:58How many of those folks do you think will ultimately get signed on in order for the agency to need its implementation goals?
01:03Well, we need 100,000, so we need the hardest best of that 100,000.
01:09We need to make sure we hire quality because it's a tough job.
01:14And we've got to make sure we get the right people.
01:17And that's funny what the hardest thing should be.
01:19Anything else?
01:21And no update on any deportations here in Washington, D.C.?
01:24Pardon?
01:24Any updates on any raids or deportation efforts here in D.C. while your men are out on the street here?
01:31You're going to see more deportations come out of Washington, D.C.
01:33than you've seen in the past.
01:34I guarantee that.
01:35Can you confirm how many states are working with right now to create migrant competitive facilities similar to the one we see in Florida?
01:43Several are being worked on, but I won't name them until we actually have an agreement on it.
01:48But there's several states that have stepped up on this list.
01:51And that's really a question for the secretary who's handling that.
01:54But we'll see.
01:55We'll see what states come through.
01:56But I applaud the states stepping forward.
01:58This is, you know, this has been a state issue, too.
02:02What the Biden administration did the last four years was terrible.
02:04And we've seen a lot of, you know, millions of people in this country are not properly vetted.
02:08So the states are taking interest.
02:09They care about public safety, too.
02:11And I'm not saying that every illegal animal is a public safety threat, but many are.
02:15And the states are taking it seriously.
02:16So I'm glad we're stepping up.
02:18Mr. Holmes, at the beginning of the year, we read how Colombia didn't want to accept some deportation flights.
02:24And they were, like, the first example of how they changed their mind very quickly about the deportations.
02:30Are they cooperating right now, Colombia, or other countries in the Western Hemisphere?
02:35Well, just about everybody's cooperating.
02:38Because they know if they don't want to take their national back, we'll send them to a third country.
02:44One thing's for sure.
02:45An illegal and criminal threat, a public safety threat, or national security threat isn't staying here.
02:52So either the company takes them back, or we'll send them to a safe third country.
02:55Thank you, town service.
