Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Border Czar Tom Homan claimed 70% of people arrested by ICE and immigrants with DUIs were public safety threats.

00:00Yeah, there's been several studies by several groups here in D.C.

00:13The crime has dropped down in areas where we've done surge operations.

00:18I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but look, not every illegal alien in this country is a public safety threat, but many are.

00:25For that percentage that are, when we deport them, that makes the city safe again.

00:30And despite what I read in the media, that we're arresting all these non-criminals, I look at the numbers every morning on the way here.

00:37There's about 22 pages of data.

00:4070% of everybody ICE arresting is a criminal.

00:43But the left says, well, not criminal enough.

00:45It's just a DUI.

00:46DUI kills over 10,000 people a year.

00:47That's a public safety threat.

00:49I don't care what anybody thinks.

00:5070% of the people ICE arrest are criminals.

00:52Who's the other 30%?

00:54National security threat.

00:55We arrested thousands of national security threats.

00:58Many of them don't have a criminal history because their whole goal is to lay low until they do their dirty deed.

01:02Gang members, a lot of gang members don't have criminal history.

01:05And finally, final deportation orders.

01:07People who had due process at great taxpayer expense, they were already removed by a federal judge, and they didn't leave.

01:14And we're looking for them, too, because we're sending messages to the whole world.

01:17It's not okay to enter this country illegally.

01:19It's a crime.

01:20It's certainly not okay to ignore a judge's order after you're being given due process.

01:25The message we're going to send, we have consequences.

01:27And one of the reasons we have such a secure border right now is not only because of great work the men and women of the Border Patrol have done,

01:33the president signed executive orders that remain in Mexico and ending catch and release.

01:37A part of the success of the most secure border in this nation's history is because we're showing the world there's consequences.

01:43You enter this country illegally, it's not okay.

01:46If you get order removed by a federal judge, you're going to leave, and we're going to make sure of that.

01:49And I think the world's seeing ICE operations throughout this nation.

01:53A thousand teams out there every day.

01:54We're sending a message, and that's helped greatly reduce the amount of people who are trying to come to the border.
